    Im a 250lb 29 year old woman. I used to inline skate as a kid and teen, but it has easily been 12 years since I skated. I bought a pair of skates yesterday, but I plan on returning them for a few reasons. I think they are a size too small so that is the main reason I plan on returning them. Also I want a hard boot instead of the soft boot. I want a skate that can be modified with other frames. Unfortunately the one I bought yesterday was a soft boot with a fixed frame. I plan on putting smaller and harder wheels on the skates when I buy a better pair. I am thinking that aggressive skate might be an option, but I like the look of hard boot freestyle/freeride type of skates.

    Everyone can and should rollerblade. Low impact sport, good cardio, will improve your legs strength considerably and will give you a lot of balance improvement. I started a bit overweight and within weeks I felt light as a feather, going up stairs felt immediately a lot easier. In nearly two years I lost around 8Kg, I expected more but turns out you're also building muscle. My legs became real beefy in a matter of months. (skating one and a half hours every two days when is not raining) So probably I did burn more than 8Kg of fat.

    • @uu3903
      @uu3903 10 месяцев назад

      The Next boot has a unique fit that I don't think is very universal. But it's a decent, strong boot. I experienced similar pain at first, but try different insoles and experiment with lacing. Cheap insoles and creative lacing made a world of difference for me. Powerslide also makes the Zoom/Sway boot that's wider and uses a slightly softer plastic. Rollerblade RB and FR are also often recommended for wider feet.

      Sorry for the late response. Yes, recommendation stands. My daughter wears the mens version of the Rollerblade Twisters. I don't know that the women's rollerblades are different other than color. It is important to consider other aspects that are personal to you. For example, the women I know that rollerblade generally have narrower feet than the guys I've skated with. The FR1's for example are very wide skates, even for many guys I stake with. This can be managed with insoles and liners. Your body composition is more important for the skates you choose than whether you are a man or women, IMO. Great question!

I loved roller skating and ice skating when I was a kid and enjoy skiing now so I was hoping the learning curve wouldn’t be too bad. But these skates barely close around my ankles and now that I’m starting to actually skate, they don’t offer nearly enough support. So I’m looking for wiiiiiiiiide calf hard shell boots. They’re hard to find!

    First of all, Thank you for making this video. You seem really nice. At the biginning (havent watched all before this post) you advice to go for hard boots. The thing I was considering was that I want to skate (mostly becouse of my kids) to lose weight. As you lose weight you will lose some feed fat. So soft ones seems more likely to slim as you go. (excuses for my english at front, Im not amarican or english.

    • @jeremynosek4185
      @jeremynosek4185  3 года назад +2

      Hi Marita, the hard boot will be more supportive for your ankles than a soft shell. It's also more durable to carry extra weight. You are correct though, your fit will "shrink" as you loose weight. My feet were very swollen when I started (EEE show width). Now I'm wearing normal to EE width shoes. The foot size issue is easily handled by moldable liners and/or insoles that can help ensure your skates stay snug as your foot diameter gets a bit smaller. Hope this helps.

I would avoid a low boot skate, like the Maxxum as you are starting out. I also would stick with 80 inch wheels, maybe 90's if you have some experience skating. The 100s or above will seem really uncomfortable (you're pretty high off the ground with more strain on your ankles) if you're just starting or getting back into rollerblading. You can buy padded clothing like you want - thin stretchy fabric with strategically placed foam pads. Shorts, pants, long and short sleeves for various extreme sports. Some even use a thinner, denser foam that's soft, but stiffens upon impact.
      You might be too upright. Bend your knees more and get lower. It you're going to fall, it's better forwards (onto your knee pads or to the side on your butt). Falling backwards is most dangerous.

I've been skating since I was five, but I've talked to a lot of people that didn't start until their 30's... and have heard it's a lot easier to learn to rollerblade vs. quad skating. Most online retailers are sold out because of the pandemic For support would compression socks be an option?

    • @jeremynosek4185
      @jeremynosek4185  2 года назад

      I wear compression socks, but they don't really help with support. You'll want a hard boot and a good (replaceable) frame that screens into the body of the skate. The biggest problems weight creates on skates is the stress between the boot and the frame and you'll wear out wheels a little faster. I have include a few online retailers in the comments section that carry some of the skates I reviewed in the video. The lower end rollerblades aren't a great option for bladers above 200 lbs. The Rollerblade Twisters could be an option to look at. I really like Seba/F1. They have a wider boot that deals very well with weight. Hope that helps. Have fun!

    What tips do you have for not having ankle and foot soreness?

    • @jeremynosek4185
      @jeremynosek4185  3 года назад +3

      The short answer is you will have some. I don't think there is getting around that. Even when I started skating or playing hockey at a normal weight after some time off, I would go through a period of soreness. But there are things you can do to minimize it. First is the right fit for your skate. There is a sweet spot of not to loose (i.e. no heel lift) and not extremely tight. Second, if your foot soreness is on the bottom or inside arch, you might try skating with an insole. Super Feet are the best I've found and then have insoles specifically for hockey skates that work great for rollerblades. They also come with a 30-day guarantee, which is nice. I went through a few of them before finding the right fit for me. The best advise I can give you though is just be patient with the process. Try a few different set-ups for your stakes (liners, insoles, etc.). But more than that, just expect it will take a little time to get comfortable for a long session. Give yourself time... and the most important thing is to have fun (even if it's just a few minutes to start). You'll build up to longer sessions in no time. Hope this helps.

      @@jeremynosek4185do you have suggestions for shin soreness? I have thin ankles but fat calves. The compression of my calf pushes the skate into my shin and it hurts. Do you have suggestions on how to minimize that? Is it skate fit, technique, or will it just get better as my body gets used to it? This problem isn’t unique to my weight. I remember experiencing this when I was younger and in very good shape. The pain in my shin would usually make me stop before I got tired.
