This is a gem, feel so privileged to be able to watch such wonderful rally footage in high quality. And poor Fabrizia Pons, she and Piero deserved to win this rally.
Her passion was incredible, you can see the respect it gained and how even other teams tried to console her.
What happened?
No one could beat C. Mcrae that day.

@@MattyC_96 22B was a road car based on the competition car. The 1997, 1998 and 1999 WRCars were designated S5 by Prodrive, the 2000 car (the last two door Impreza) was the S6. The cars in this video are all early S5's.

Era distrutta per quella vittoria mancata. E pensare che poi nel proseguo del campionato McRae lo perse il mondiale. Un sacrificio del tutto inutile

The era i grew up with. Really cool it was to see such a panel of cars competing in the same category!!!
1997 and 1998 were the best years because the cars were a mix of Group A and the first WRCars and looked like vehicles you could still buy. Plus, Colin was still in a Subaru and Tommi in a Mitsubishi. Toyota returned and Ford were a works team.

McRae's Subaru coupe was such a looker. Cars really looked like their production counter parts along w/ their simply iconic liveries. WRC cars nowadays just aren't that recognizable for those who don't follow closely. Race cars in general I mean.

Colin didn't need to win like that. It was a shame and he lost the 1997 championship anyway. 'Father' Rovanpera was driving like a 'Grandmother' in this rally... Even if he won the 2WD class.

Questo è stato il Rally d'Italia senza offendere nessuno. Anzi erano i rally...5 giorni di gara traversi sbandate correzioni prove da 30 km. Ora vai a vedere un campionato italiano lo fanno su 9 speciali. Poi 5 o 6 marchi a giocarsi la gara. Il Mondiale ora 2 marchi ufficiali e una Ford che sta lì per disperazione.

Did Subaru enforce team orders there? Makes me wonder, as Colin McRae won by only 6 seconds, and Fabrizia Pons was clearly agitated at the finish.
Yeah, Liatti took a 10 sec penalty after the last stage.
Supongo que nadie pensó antes del comienzo del rallye, que Liatti iba a ser más rápido que Colin Mcrae en los tramos. En todo caso, eso pasó el último día, y Liatti no quiso solucionarlo en un tramo, lo que ocasionó este tipo de final, así todo el mundo se enteraba que había sido mas rápido que Colin. Un buen profesional no habría de llegar a estos extremos y posiblemente le hubieran dado más carreras con Subaru. Pero los pilotos son muy orgullosos y quieren dejar la marca de sus huevos encima de la mesa. Esto también ha pasado en el Rally Catalunya con Carlos Sainz y Colin y en la Formula 1, cuando lo tienen que hacer, se paran en el ultimo suspiro para que el mundo se entere que se dejó pasar. Cosa un poco de niños y gilipollas, que no se dan cuenta, de que el que contrata, ya sabe lo que ha pasado de verdad y el publico no paga los sueldos a los pilotos, por mucho que te aclamen.

No dices más que tonterías. Makinen acabó 3° a 12 segundos, bien se podría haber liado en ese último tramo con las órdenes de equipo y haberse llevado el rally por la tontería de tener al escocés mimado ganando un rally que no mereció
