Body shots are under taught and not used enough or thought of enough in street fighting or even in MMA. You see them used more in boxing and kicks going to the body in MMA, but not as many punches. Good subject and it shows once again the giant importance of footwork.
+Mike Reis Body punches is very hard in MMA. Especially the hooks to the sides body, you need to close the distance. Sure Cruz do body punch but that's only jab and rarely do you even see a cross. Most MMA fighters just prefer kicks that's all since it has longer reach and more power. Also, they allow *knees*. Why liver/solar plexus punch at that close distance when you can use your knee to obliterate their liver/stomach/rips ?
Chris Griffin I can see what you're saying and I agree where that's where a lot of people would go that route, but even Bas Rutten likes punching the liver and is shocked on how few use it since he used it often. I still blame that on training.
Great job Shane.one tip on body punches that a lot of fighters make mistake on is the eyes.make sure you teach your fighters on keeping eyes on fighter.if they look at body when attacking body is a dead give away you going for body shot.its just in the details to a great body shot.👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
+stat2k excuse me? many people learn greatly by watching. You can watch a pro and then slowly learn intricate, subtle details of the sport and slowly get better off of that. Your mind might not actively register it, but you subconsciously notice things and in trying to aspire to that professional you will incorporate them into your own actions. And please dont be so rude for no bloody reason.
***** from the way Im seeing this, he's giving Mike Tyson as more of an example rather than an alternative to the entire learning of the style/ the video, and you could have just disagreed in a polite, civilized way instead of calling him a "fucking idiot", and still it does not take away from what I said.
You can learn a lot from watching Tyson box actually. A huge part of fighting or any sport is stealing techniques from others and incorporating them into your own style. If you are good at mimicking techniques it can help you progress greatly. You are also limiting yourself by saying you can't do a technique because you don't have the power of Tyson. I'm guessing you would be a nightmare to train with that attitude.
Great video!!!! I ve been trying to work on my bodyshots and movement more lately.. The further I get in Muay Thai and MMA in general I realize it's not at all about land super powerful shots... It's speed,MOWVEMENT, and defense
You can see the clear emphasis of Dom Cruz style/footwork in your vids, and I really appreciate that. Next gen shit. His defense is superbly underrated, and I've said that way before beating TJ.
Dude, I love that shuffle switch on the jab! Been working switch step jab to rear (what would have been lead) head kick, liked the idea of same side combos but maybe I'll throw in that body shot beforehand, would def let me set and balance before the kick.
Just had my first spar got hit alot in the head but this really helped me land a lot of body shots on my opponent, they themselves complimented it. Great video man keep up the good work.
This guy has some great tips I can use to help my son and his Friend's "First rule self-defense only" my boys know the first rule.Second rule "keep it in the ring!!!"
one of ur fans from Egypt .. i just wanted thank u for all ur tips . i hope i can train with u some day that will be a dream come true .... keep on the good work
Great tip this is verry important if your opponent is really good and skilled in head movement like Slip, Bob and Weave. attack his body if you can't hit him in the head great vid shane
very good stuff! very well said easy to understand. ill be sparring were both blocking all punches I go for jab to body and got tagged right on chin. i left my head in the center line! I will practice this and teach my buddies thanks man!
This is going in my fight tips n drills folder.. Excellent video. I was having great success in sparring just last night using the one two body. Drill Drill and Drill.
Shane love your videos and was wondering if you already made a video on how to fight someone who's big/buff or how to fight someone who likes fight on the ground
Hi, just a quick message to express my thanks for your excellent content. Having fought for a number of years, I have witnessed some really poor vlogs and questioned, firstly, how they get away with it and secondly, have they ever pulled on a pair of gloves and unleashed a punch in anger. Keep up the good work my friend. Really appreciate your hard work. Cheers. Garry Wilson (Scotland)
hey shane, I'm just wondering how do you pivot with your rear leg to create more angles. I seem to have a hard time slipping and then pivoting with my rear leg.
Nice buildups, they flow very good in regular stance, but taking to consideration, that if you switch stance, your opponent's liver stays on his right side, do you have any for southpaw?
Hey... I have a question regarding the jab to the body, where should I lean my head if I'm a southpaw? If I squat and get to my left I could still get hit
Hey your videos help alot with punching part but whenever i am fighting the fight begins normal punches are being thrown but all of a sudden it becomes a wresteling match how to prevent that?
hey Shane, i think I have a back injury on the right upper side, because I am a fast bowler(cricket). as I tried too hard to bowl fast I started feeling numb there, and now I cannot lie on my stomach with elbows keeping me up for a long time as my upper right back aches. I want to ask how dangerous is it?. you must have seen or experienced this being a fighter.
Quick question Shane. I was wondering what your thoughts were on training gi vs no gi bjj if your goal is to develop self defense rather than being a tourney monster.
Yeah most people who don’t know how to fight never predict the double jab fake into the left liver shot. These fights lasts about a second. I’m trying to perfect it and get faster at it.
@fightTIPS: Terrific advice on avoiding that center line! To all of the newbs on here: Conservation of movement is critical. When slipping, subtle is the way to go. Do not telegraph your movements ( the man in this clip is a little guilty of telegraphing & also not keeping himself "small" and compact. folks this is critical!
Body shots are under taught and not used enough or thought of enough in street fighting or even in MMA. You see them used more in boxing and kicks going to the body in MMA, but not as many punches. Good subject and it shows once again the giant importance of footwork.
a solar plexus strike could kill
+Mike Reis Yup cruz showed that yesterday when he was using basic dodging techniques and TJ could not even hit him.
+Mike Reis

+stat2k Relax. It's RUclips comments, not a proving ground.
