Girl I'm not gonna lie, my physical technique is more advanced as I have been dancing for 11 years, but your spotting and turnout is really impressive. The improvement you've made over 6 months is insane to me, I really hope you keep dancing because you've got some serious talent, picking up an art that quick. Girls in my class don't as professional as you. The posture, everything, is STUNNING for six months. NEVER GIVE UP!!!!! YOU GOT THIS!!!

I started at 19. I ate, drank and sleepy ballet. I stretched in the morning, went to class at 8am to 9:30 and went to my office job (I got through the junior college I attended) then went back to class or classes if they had more. Got scholarships and sought out ANY free dance classes be it modern, folk, even medieval and square dancing! Dance is dance and I loved it! 7 days a week and give myself Barre when there were no classes. I got accepted the The Boston Conservatory of Music. I joined a few local companies and eventually had a company made for me to star in. I was discouraged at the get-go but I told them all they can get their tickets at the will-call window. Never EVER give up when you know this is what you were born to do. I lived it.

Inspiring. As women we are told many times that we cannot do things because we are too old: dance, have children, wear the clothes we want to wear etc. It's great to see women like you break the limits and go for it. You may not mimic the dance abilities of someone who had the opportunities to do it years ahead of you. However, what is most important is that you are fulfilling your pathways of joy. Being the best is not important, because there is no way to go from there. Pursuing fun and fulfillment in life, and try to be better every day is essential.

I started contemporary dance when i was 21 and started ballet in January of this year which was three months after i turned 22 and sometimes i wish i had started earlier too because dance has really helped me find myself and if it wasn't for dance I would still be that depressed autistic girl who came straight out of high school working a job I slowly started to hate, and sure sometimes i care too much about what others think and i compare myself to others and i have moments when i think i should give up, but then its those little victories I have and videos like these that help me to keep going, so here's to not giving up, we got this!

It's been 10 months now and honestly I've been pretty sad, I think my expectations were high and my reality does not ally with it (I work a lot, so I don't have much time to practice). What frustrates me the most is how I'm never flexible enough. For the last two months I've been thinking about giving up, but this video really gave me some hope. I danced as a kid, a little bit of ballet, a little hip-hop/majorette, but stopped because 1, it takes a lot of time and commitment that my 7/8 year old self wasn't ready to give up, and 2, because taking professional ballet classes cost, and growing up with three other siblings around my age and being low middle class, spending all of my mother's money just so I could dance, wasn't an option. I got older and moved on to do music and art, but I've always craved dance, always mimicking chorography and making sure I stretched every day. I don't know if I'd ever want to do it professionally, don't know if I'd ever get that good, but I'm 18 now, and anything is possible, so why not learn what I can, and see where it takes me.

When I was 11 I fell in love with rhythmic gymnastics, I was obsessed with it but unfortunately was sure that my time had gone so I just exercised at home.
When I was 13 I fulfilled my dream and went to sport school. I was the happiest person in the world you know. I was happy just to be in the gym, to see clubs, ribbons - it was breathtaking. And it seemed weird that other girls take it for granted. I was 13, they were 3-8, I was the most clumsy, the tallest, but the happiest.
I broke my toe after a half a year of trainings, my coach didn’t want to take me again so I left gymnastics.
In the uni I had an opportunity to do gymnastics again and was the happiest person again. I was very diligent. We were preparing for the uni competition I was keen on gymnastics, forgot about studying, but competition finally was cancelled (2021 year). I was devastated. I had been dreaming about competition for 9 years.
    My dream didn’t come true.
I graduated, my interests changed: work, friends, boys, dances.
    I gave up on gymnastics.
But now I saw your video and feel inspired again. I don’t know if I still love gymnastics, but I can try one more time and may be be the happiest person again.

I went from having zero flexibility, excluding my back bends, to having my left and right leg split and left leg hold. My turnout and arches have improvement tremendously. Thank you so much for this!
I had to stop taking ballet classes as a child, and in the 14 years that followed, I have felt like a part of me was missing, and the urge to start dancing ballet again has been getting stronger and stronger.
I love watching ballet videos, but at the same time, they make me really sad because I always think that I could be that good now if I had never stopped, but now I never will be because I'm too old to become good at ballet. Honestly, quitting ballet is one of my deepest regrets.
But this week, I finally told myself that maybe I won't be as good as other dancers, but that doesn't mean I can't be good at all, and it doesn't mean I can't still enjoy the process. So I finally messaged a ballet school and I'm going to rehearsal next week, and I couldn't be more excited.
This video boosted my confidence, and strengthened my belief that I can still become a good or decent ballet dancer, and simply enjoy the dancing and feel complete again.

This year I turned 15 and have been feeling that being good at ballet is just something that is not possible for me because of my current level, I started ballet when I was 7 but my classes, while fun, were not very serious. It was just one of my moms friends teaching ballet at a church, and I never pushed myself to succeed or push my limits to improve. But this year I realized just how amazing professional ballerinas are, and while I never plan to be a professional (I want to devote my life to being the best mother I can be someday) I want to be good at dance because I love it so much. And I finally realized that if people in their 20s and even older can do it I most certainly can. This summer I am working very hard to improve my flexibility, strength, and technique before classes start again. You have helped to inspire me, thank you.

Traumatic life events ripped me away from any dream I had for ballet at the time that I started in my teens. I was also a backcountry Nordic athlete, and deeply in love with traditional Chinese martial arts (Ba Gua Zhang)
Thankfully, I am in phase in my life where I am reconnecting with it because it just would not let go of me, after many years of feeling trapped in my body in a condition that I did not want to be in, from obesity to numerous health issues, the scale is heading downward, and my spirit is heading upward and I am visiting the very thing that truly helped me remember who I am and what my power is, this gift of movement in all its beautiful art forms. how can I not be deeply moved by how wonderful it all is, and all your stories?
Here's to the blessing of awakening to yourself and the power that lies within 😇

Im 15 and wanna start ballet!! I feel so free when i dance, as if i can control everything. I've never done any type of dance, so i just move my body. But the elegance and grace of ballet dancers reach my heart every time i watch them. It's so strange. How can they make it look so easy and effortless? I wanna do ballet so bad, but the only thing that's holding me back is the fact that it's so expensive. My mom told me i could try out ballet, but when she saw how expensive it was, she immediately refused. Now im just working on my strength and flexibility so that if I ever have a chance to do ballet, I'll be a bit prepared. Also, it's horrible how many people with the same dream as me struggle with the same reason. I hope we can live our dream one day❤
Also, you are so good for a 25 year old woman!! Like the technique and grace, i can see you put a lot of effort. And oh yeah, the fact that you only did 6 MONTHS of ballet? Like what? Girly, you're amazing!!!

I am not going to start on ballet without an instructor because I don't want to develop bad habits, but figure skating I already know a bit about and I will just do other dance styles to get my body moving.

Aw I know how you feel. Honestly, so many of us have these regrets, but I promise you that these feelings will subside. It's all part of the process. The important part of that you're going back to doing what you love and the fact that you have 6 years of ballet under your belt will help you so much! Wishing you the best as you start again! 💕

i think with ballet there's too much pressure to be the best in the room, like if you do this sport you HAVE to do it professionally or take it far, (which can also be seen in other sports of course) but i think it's important to remember that even people who did it as a kid won't necessarily become a professional and its not about that, it's just about having fun, feeling prettyand elegant and ultimately doing a fun lil dance. If you like dance then you should be able to do it without feeling like you should've done better for it, you're fine as you are.

Woww!!!!! This is the same for me, there were so many things that I wish I would of started. I am 20 years old and I look at my life and there is just so many things I wish I done. I spent all of high school focused on academics and didn't have a life outside of that except cheer. So it was just cheer and school, but now I regret not having fun. I just want to have that thing that I can go to and depend on. Like when your mad, you can just do that one thing for hours on end. I did competitive cheer when I was younger and did it in high school as well, but didn't continue because college competitive is completely different. I did basketball when I was younger and I was really good at it, but I quit because I was on an all boys team. Now some things that I want to try are ice skating, boxing and archery. I really want to start these things before the end of the year.

      DISCLAIMER*
All of the advice has either come directly from my instructors (ballet, pilates, conditioning), the director of my ballet school or my own experience having performed in over 25 concerts. I am also not trying to undermine your absolute talent and love for this art. You are stunning and these are just some tips on how to keep improving, because even the greatest prima ballerina can never be perfect.
At the clip of four months training, when you bring your foot to the front, your knee sort of collapsed in on itself. This is because your turnout was not holding your leg and hip enough, so in that movement, only your foot should move. When you don't have turnout, you can look uncomfortable and unprofessional, so if it means your leg has to be lower for the turnout, so be it. Don't engrave bad habits into your mind🌟
In a couple of your shorts I notice that you often try to hide in what I call "your box". Watch this video to understand better ruclips.net/user/shorts7ShmH-vRelc , but if you don't feel comfortable clicking links ( not that I'm a creep, just I know some people don't like it) , all you have to do is use painters or masking tape to create a box shape that is about 1 cubic meter on the floor in your home. Now imagine that this extends up to above your head, like a Barbie doll box for humans. Expand to a pose that "breaks" your box, like a lengthened arabesque with arms in a fourth or fifth (arabesque or normal), or maybe a second on releve with extended neck and arms in fifth. Then close back in and slump your shoulders and stand in a non confident fifth position arms in first. You know you're expanding properly if your armpits, neck and sometimes thighs can breathe. This will make you look more confident and comfortable taking up space on stage or in class. 🩰
Okay and my last tip is on arms. To get the gist of this one I would really recommend this video, I showed it to my Grade 1's and they all ahd amazing arms! I find that people who didn't do classes as a child or don't have a professional teacher always have something going on with their arms and hands, so the arms and hands can often look very tense or floppy and their thumbs are poking out. When your arms are in first position, you want to have soft hands, with a slight bend in the fingers and thumbs hiding behind your palms like a shy little bunny. (that's the analogy I use for my pre primaries, sorry) And your arms should look soft, but if someone was to hit them or push down, they'd stay right in place (that's a fun exercise with your ballet friends is pushing each others firsts and seconds down.) Remember hen in first position (transitioning or a fixed position), they should be at the height of your belly button. And finally, try as hard as you can to hold that arm up and in position during barre exercises and turns. Even when the teacher is going around correcting arms, don't just put them up when she or he gets there, hold them until it gets to your turn. This will improve your endurance over time and you will be able to withstand tricky situations like the music cutting out onstage (I know from experience). Depends on your dance school, most will let you keep dancing, but some make you hold a position for as long as it takes for the music to come back so you never know. This rule also applies to any arabesques or anything, if the teacher is checking, hold it. 💗
That's all I'm going to comment for now because it's hard to remember a lot of corrections, but if you have any concerns or questions about my comment please feel free to ask if you need further explanation or guidance. Have a lovely day!💗💗💗💗

    • @dearballet
      @dearballet  8 месяцев назад +3

This message made me SO happy! I promise you it’s the best decision you could make!
      DANCE SCHEDULE
      At the beginner I would go to class 2x a week (90 min x 2 = 3h/week).
Then I started going to extra classes, so I would go 4-5 times a week. (90 min 4.5 = 7h ish)
Then in summer I did 5-6 times per week.
These past few weeks I’ve been quite busy so I do 1-2x a week, but usually I do 2-3X / week!
And there are times were there was a 2-3 weeks where I missed class!
All this to say, my teachers recommends 2x a week, but sometimes life gets in the way and at least if you can go 1x/week or 2-3 time a month you will see improvement!
I also sync my dance schedule to my menstrual cycles so sometimes I have so much energy and I’ll go 4-5x week, whereas when I’m on my period I’ll let myself rest and push harder the following week!
SOOO, experiment for what works best for your body! Just the fact that you’re going to the studio is huge, so be proud of yourself 💗💗

This is a hard video for me to watch as a ballet dancer. I applaud people starting as adults but it has to be done the right way. I’m not sure whoever is teaching your class but they shouldn’t be, it almost upsets me enough to start teaching myself. EVERYTHING about ballet comes out of having the right form. If you don’t you will never improve and never go anywhere. You’re doing steps that are only for someone that has the basics down first and if you don’t have them, they’ll never be right. It’s like trying to run when you haven’t learned to walk or stand. It’s really frustrating that someone is taking your money and not showing you the basics. There are people on YT that can start you out right so you can improve. If I didn’t care I wouldn’t have left an extremely long comment. Work on the basic positions and your turnout, if you don’t master that you will never be able to do a pirouette. It’s just that simple and that’s why you’re struggling so bad. I’m hoping you’ll take this advice to heart and find a good online bar class that works on your positions, turnout and very basic steps. Good luck!
