1- Pull up (back, torse): to gain stability and even a more professional look. 2- Port de bras: Practice the positions in front of a mirror and try to connect each position while dancing so it looks like dancing, not doing ballet steps only. 3- Same as 2, dance with your head. In adagio, etc. 4-Plié. 5-Practice your variation a couples time in a row in order to handle the cardio. 6- Turnout (idk how to explain just watch the end of the video lol)
The head thing is sooo true. We weren't taught very often to use our heads when I danced a long time ago.... but it makes such a difference and you can't unsee it when you are aware of this in dancers..
I watched this video when it first came out, and I saw someone comment a tip about thinking of all the bones in your body relaxing and dropping to her ground whilst the muscles lift up. I have used this tip ever since and it has been so incredible. It’s a strange concept but I always have perfect balance whether it’s on flat or pointe. So if you are the person who commented this, you are a life saver
One of my ballet teachers would tell us to imagine that someone was pulling a hair on the very top of your head to pull up and maintain posture. Honestly pulling up helps so so much. Also thank you for this video I’ve been taking class via zoom and it’s just not the same. This’ll help me remember certain things technique-wise and allow me to feel less floppy :) Thank youuuu
I started dancing this year, my teacher told me that I have lots of potential but if I work hard I can become professional within two years. I'm almost fifteen, and I feel really proud of myself because I never danced before in my life, so if I do become professional I will be so happy, because dancing is basically my life
omg yesss i’m trying to get better at ballet even tho i’ve been doing it for 10 years lol.btw i love the new merch ❤️!! i might be getting the sweatshirt!
Another way of trying to pull up is like imagine your bones are drilling down to the ground and your muscles are getting pulled up, it’ll help with your balance so much. Not only that but if youre standing on one leg during tendu, adage, or whatever you’re doing, NEVER sit on the leg you’ll look super short and try to keep your weight off of your hips and imagine your hips are going up into your armpits 😂😂😂 that’s the best way I can explain it
I'm taking a screenshot of this to remember it. It helped a lot but I can't dance currently. I'm not allowed to by the doctor. I'll look at it again after I start on physical therapy.
For some reason i used to not like ballet but was still ok at it but ever since uve gotton my pointe shoes I’ve been in LOVE with ballet all of a sudden and these videos make me love it more 😊
these are AMAZING tips Mackenzie. thank you!! i've been doing ballet for 13 years and appreciate these so much! sometimes when teachers yell that one correction like close your ribs or engage your shoulders, it can be hard to know exactly what they actually mean 😂 you clearly know your stuff and you're a beautiful dancer 💗
This was really helpful. Whenever I'm dancing, I'm constantly wondering why I'm wobbly, or can't get higher extensions, etc. This will really help me focus on a few things, and improve a lot more overall
Just wanted to tell you to keep up the great work! I have studied ballet forever and you have already figured out so many typical mistakes at such a young age! And best of all you are using your discoveries and knowledge to help so many other dancers 💗 Stay sweet and adorable!
Overall it’s just about really stretching out/lifting up your body parts to make long and stable lines/positions. Working your body parts in opposition.
Can you make a video on stretches to do to get a little bit of hyperextension (like enough to make your legs look really pretty when dancing on pointe). I've heard that it's good for dancers to have a little bit of hyperextension, and I have none. Also, how can I get higher arches/ flexible ankles?
Hiiii, so I know this comment is old but I wanted to answer anyways. Hyperextension is kinda genetic, it has to do with how you're built but really engaging muscles helps with a cleaner extension and more defined lines. For pointe, it's really the feet that are important. For higher arches, do calf raises and releves because it strengthens them and the calf pulls up faster for pointework. You do NOT want flexible ankles, you want strong ankles. Flexible ankles will be injured quicker so aim for flexible feet and strong ankles.
I have problems my ankles and this is really helping (my ankles never do what I want them to do, only what they want to do so I struggle with that a lot)
Sonya Alborn aw I’m so excited for you!!! I got my first pair when I was 12 too, now I’m 15. Be warned it’s quite uncomfortable for the first few months but you’ll get used to them in no time! I believe in you😘❤️💕
its so interesting hearing you describe pulling up cause its like.....both different from how i was taught and the same if that makes any sense? i like the idea of separating the upper and lower body, at our studio we're taught to think of our ribcage as a vest and to "zip up" the vest when we dance
Mackenzie, these are the kinds of details an excellent teacher notices and emphasizes, and while they’re the hardest teachers, I always get the most from those classes and I’m so happy with my hard work afterwards 😊 One day, I hope you teach physical class, you’ll be amazing 🤩
Truee.. i can relate so much when you talk about stamina.. i have low blood pressure and when my stamina is going down of course my technique kinda slacks off, so my teacher yells at me saying "pull up, etc etc". But i just can't because i'm already so tired. So i tried some cardio exercises from youtube, and i can feel at ballet that my stamina is just going ⬆️ and i can do my movements/technique better. So long story short, improve ur stamina guys!!
I love your videos. I don't dance anymore but still try. Ive lost my flexibilty at this age but enjoy knowing that once upon a time I was like you. When sitting on the floor, my pointed toes can still touch the floor tho! Yay!!
thank you so much for this! i started dance late, around 11, but i am just now starting ballet during the quarantine. i know most of the terminology, but when it comes to technique, i never know what they're talking about, and since it's usually on youtube or instagram, i cant ask them. so this was super helpful!
The turnout tip made me examine my own posture. I've struggled with tucking in my butt while not clenching so much I can't lift my legs. Can you perhaps do a tricks video on that?
You were really cute explaining all that stuff ^^ Congrats for sharing all these information, because I rarely see this on internet. I'm from Brazil e learnt it from a ballet teacher just because she is physiotherapist! By the way, when you talked about the back - to engage the back muscles - my teacher says it's called to active your shoulder blade, it's like to pull them down, get it? Of course you got it, you did it hahahahaha loved your video! Keep searching and sharing your knowledge!! ♡♡♡♡
That's an interesting point on turnouts. I was always told to clench my butt to do that, but my leg feels like weighing a ton. Will try to put myself on top of my hips and not engage the arriere. Thank you for amazing demonstrations!=) Your face glows up when you dance❤️
Great video! Another tip for multiple turns without wobbling is to spot on a place that is right in front of your face not to the side or on the ground because you go where you spot
Hi!! Can u make a short video or even an insta post about how ballet hands should be placed.... ik that there can be different positions but can you show the most commonly used one in ballet
Can I like this multiple times on one account?!😂 Seriously though I really appreciate how you didn't rush things and showed us detailed examples! Thank you!
I've always had trouble with fouettes (I don't know how to spell it, my phones not helping me spell it😂), but just because of the first tip alone, I now know how to do them for my dances!
Im 12 and ive been dancing since i was 3. I dont wanna be a professional dancer im just doing it for fun but i am such a perfectionist that im way harder on myself that i mean to be.
Lmao "port de bras" is a French word and I'm french but with your accent I didn't unferstand what it was at first. I thought it was an english word I didn't know 🤣🤣🤣 Anyway, this video was really useful, thanks for making it 😊

I’m so glad she posted this because I feel like with online classes and doing dance at home we can forget technique, and to correct ourselves
I HATE online dance classes. They are my worst nightmare 😫😩
lol not me, my ballet studio decided to do zoom classes 💀 rip
I have at home dance classes from my mom. ✌️

Haven't been on pointe for a month..this quarantine is making me slack 😥😥
Be brave y'all , we are gonna die once we put them back after 3 months
Yikes, we're goin down
*it's goin' down for real* ;(
Relatable😫
I hate to be that person but * en pointe *
You should do a video of trying the worst reviewed products on discount dance!
Yes
finally seeing someone talk about "tucking" and it's so relieving to see someone else trying to correct it!

I love your new merchandise so much because I don’t dance ballet but hip hop and I like the new hoodie with dance in the different colours a lot ❤️
