This is what we need. The internet is full of videos of already flexible ppl doing demos or teachers walking their already flexible students through stretches they clearly do every day. Yes we need to see proper alignment, but it’s so much more realistic for people to see someone who looks like a real beginner
Exactly! And on the proper alignment note, I'll be trying to figure out my positioning to ensure I don't injure myself, meanwhile the demonstration is done by someone so flexible that I have no clue how to do it properly bc my anatomy just isn't there yet
Also its very dangerous for a beginer start with stretching like that, before every stretch you have to be well warmed up and every stretch has to be gradually slowly done. Plus you need to make sure not just stretch , but also strenthen your back muscles and that are different exercises all together. What this flexible girl shows is for already either naturally flexible person or trained one. Beginners also have to be very careful, because back is your spine and you don't want to end up as invalid breaking your spine. NEVER FORCE YOUR MUSCULES especially your back and spine whatever you do.
@@Heather-nw1ywthat’s not true. Being flexible is inherently helpful so you don’t get hurt doing whatever physical activity that is your choice. While for most it’s not a necessity to be THAT flexible, stretching is something that EVERYONE can do to stay in shape.
Considering she’s a trained dancer and not a trained physiotherapist her advice was pretty good to suggest starting points. Her back flexibility and the strength to hold those is insane. Amazing stuff. Very entertaining video as well lmao.
I was doing a theraband stretch like this once and literally got a charley horse in one leg AND MY BACK. That, not gonna lie, was the most frightened I've ever been in my life. Like, I'm there, totally seized up, thinking "Is this, like.. forever now?" I COULD not move.
Basically this whole video. 😂 Sophia: "So this is what I do to stretch..." Eva: "What would you recommend for us mere mortals who aren't already 50% pretzel?"
I LOVE this. I would love more videos like this where we see each dancer share a few stretch/strength exercises to develop a body part or something. I’m gonna do all of these!
Dudeeee sameee- I tried to fall into a back end and fell straight onto my neck and i was seeing stars for a good 10 minutes. LITERALLY ✨T E R R I F Y I N G✨
One time as a kid I tried doing a back bend in a field by my house and fell straight down - got the wind knocked out of me and my head hurt like crazy and immediately walked home in silence and never tried one again
Do it on a bed or thick mat, like the kind used for high jumps at school or so. That way you land softly if you fail. It's how I did it when I was (a lot) younger
She's basically a contortionist. Building this level of flexibility takes time and it's better to work on it when young. That said, learning flexibility at any age is pretty much always good for you. It's something people take for granite, but it keeps you from pulling muscles or getting issues later as often.
your videos make me feel more and more confident about going into ballet as an adult. you always try so hard and have so much fun and you're never afraid to fail, and that's exactly what i need ! :-)
You did great Eva! I can’t do this due to a bad back and 2 failed spinal surgeries. But I admire the ballet and those who try it and those who do it. One day I’ll see the ballet in real life and one day I’ll own a tutu.
As a radiographer I WISH I could xray and see how their spines look in those positions. My brain cannot compute how that even works anatomically... like where do their vertebral bodies go?! And the spinous processes? Do they just collapse on each other somehow? lol fuuu
It is - I have a very flexible back but very tight shoulders. Some of these moves I can get into (not the advanced version 💀 but the intermediate!) but I can’t for the life of me get into full wheel bc of shoulders
This cow/cat exercise is what prevents me from getting hurt on classes. There was a time where my back would get horribly sore after classes pretty much on every class, and it would increasingly get bad to the point I couldn't walk properly because of pain. Then I started to do this before classes and I don't feel pain anymore (except for a veeeery faint pain, sometimes). Sometimes when I arrive late I don't have time to do it and then BAM I go home and my back is horrible. The correlation is very clear.
I would love for you to make more videos like this to work on different skills. (like for example turns, balance, extensions, turnout) Love this video!!❤
That creepy walk at the end, but then down the stairs like that too. My niece had me legit ready to exercise the demons!!!! I love everything about the developmentally appropriate techniques for YOUR INDIVIDUAL current ability. I would love to see your progress EVA. I squealed in the lunch room at work when I saw my heels for the first time in my backbends. I was about 33 then. I went through some moving across the country and losing my flexibility while focusing on other life priorities. Im stable again and picked up figure skating. Can't wait to see my feet again and more at 44! Im almost there! You CAN DO IT!
I love you guys so much. You guys are so cool. I'm also ballerina and I'm also flexible not trying to flex also really really flexible. You inspired me to do all the stuff.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you for the back strength exercises. Anytime I try to google how to strengthen my back because it is so weak. I just get a bunch of videos about how to stop back pain. It’s so annoying.
I've never done ballet nor gymnastics, but thanks to my EDS (that I found out about in my mid 20's), I could quite easily do back bends and splits when I was around 10 years old and into my teens. My splits weren't 100% as I needed a bit of hand support, but I also didn't know I needed to turn out to do them properly. I did these things completely untrained O.o After sports class at school, I'd often stretch on a big mat and do back bends and splits as a way of stretching, and classmates would just look at me as if they'd just seen an alien, and ask me how the heck I did that XD It was just so unexpected from me, the quite chubby girl in class who didn't do great at sports (I have literally no endurance, but am VERY strong in short bursts) I tried doing a split at 25 and it was my first time trying in years, and I wasn't warm (I was just hanging out with an EDS friend) and somehow got to about 1-2 inches away from a full split even at that age. This year I'll be 40, and I can still turn out to the point of my toes being far behind my heels, or lay down with the soles of my feet together and have my legs down on the bed while I'm on my back. I don't do it on the floor simply because the floor is too painful to be on for me (my EDS comes with a lot of chronic pain and pain flares) I have too many spine issues now, so no longer even attempt back bends
I remember my friend's sister used to do calisthenics many years ago. She could watch a half hour TV show doing the full middle splits for the entire duration. She could also bend her back, able to touch her head to her butt without much effort. Always jaw dropping!!
I ordered that loopy exercise band bc that’s the exact thing I’m working on (obviously flexibility wise). Perfect perfect video, exactly what I needed. Thank you!!! Eva you also inspired me to hire a professional photographer to capture my aerial hoop movements. (I took my rig to a cliff on the pacific and took pictures in my Lyra) thanks to your inspiration. Next I want to be an aerial photographer
I have h-EDS and all my joints are hypermobile EXCEPT my lumbar spine lacks lordosis.. I can curl into a ball forwards, but bending backwards it becomes a cement pole. I'm gonna try these stretches though! With loads of warming up first lol.

Eva, you are way too relatable. The "you need to kill me" sound is on repeat everytime I am stretch
PLEASE have one of the dancers show you stretches for arched feet!! I really need some stretching ideas.
Search on RUclips for “hannah martin rg feet”
She shows some good exercises :)
I put on sneakers , went to a knee kneeling position, and sat on my feet, then leaned back until my back was flat on floor..
Hannah Martin has a great sequence of foot stretches using a ball and everything. They're literally the most intense thing I've ever felt.
Eva being terrified so so relatable. I TRIED do a backbend and fell on my head so now doing anything like that just gives me MAJOR flashbacks 😭

You can actually look up the images online, there are images of a contortionist's spine when she's bent in half 😊
Hi Eva! I love watching how you are improving every day, dancing just for the love of it! And of course your photos are amazing!
