I'm in New York state, and that last letter really struck home. My friend told me she got the vaccine in December because she works part-time at a Walgreens (she's not a pharmacist, I think she's a clerk). She was appalled that they "threw out 40 doses because employees refused to take them, and they couldn't just take anyone off the street." I was appalled, too. Why were too many doses provided, why didn't employees have to sign up first? And then isn't it terrible that they couldn't just take people off the street? Forty doses wasted! And I imagine that happened other places too, so how many were wasted in total? People are frantic and angry around here, trying to sign up for a vaccine appointment now that the eligibility has been relaxed. They're even driving 90 minutes to get one in a different city. New York did a horrendous job with the distribution process.
It’s the usual example of people not able to think on their feet. In medicine, you have to be able to color outside the lines. Administrators have a problem doing both of these.
Even Queens, NYC is like this. One long-hauler and family got hers (6 of 12 trash doses) cuz someone called her and I guess "secretly" offered it. Just one case among similar stories of "lucky skippers". They already know the willingness to take the vaccine from surveys, but they didn't take this into account so doses go in the trash when "reserved" recipients don't show up. This doesn't sound like a "logistics/manufacturing" problem at all to me. Oh well...Moderna and Phizer has no problem with selling 1 billion doses to government I bet.
@@immortaltyger1569 Penn too apparently. "After long days of vaccinating front-line health care workers, nurses have described calling friends and family members, frantically trying to find someone willing to receive the shot at the last minute." Daniel, could you please bring data to support claim that vaccine protects better than wild infection? Is your view based on actual studies, or perhaps only voiced in support of the mantra to never miss an opportunity to vaccinate?
My county has limited the second vaccination tier to 75 and above due to a shortage of vaccines. That puts me in the third tier. Is there any guidance for outpatient treatment in case one gets sick while waiting for a vaccine to become available? Apparently, the NIH has updated its position on the use of Ivermectin by no longer condemning it, but it is not recommended by the NIH either. So what outpatient protocols are recommended by the NIH?
Nobody finds it odd that we can have tents set up in parking lots for drive through covid testing, but it seems like my 86 year old father is going to have to go in a hospital and sit and wait in a small room with dozens of people to get vaccinated? Does it make sense to arrange what would be a super spreader scenario in order to vaccinate...?
If everyone in the vaccination waiting room is wearing a mask and sitting 2 metres apart (6 feet apart), transmission should be close to zero. That being said, drive-through vaccination sounds like a good idea, in places where the weather isn't too bad.
While getting vaccination is good, I am glad that some doctors are proactively contacting their clients to suggest/prescribe (if needed) ways to improve their immunity/ odds against covid. Especially, those with morbidities such as diabetes.
Dear Dr. Griffin; what's your opinion about RECOVERY TRIAL on plasma convalescent? Which has rejected this treatment, it said that there's no difference on experimental and control groups, the mortality was 18 percent on both groups. Which is quite disappointing to me, but we have to follow evidence of science.
In some respects Dr Griffin has endorsed the UK’s approach of giving as many people as possible the 1st dose and NOT locking away the necessary 2nd dose. In other words putting EVERY available vaccine in someone’s arm.
Why are people are so adverse to masks? It's not that hard. What's the deal here? Selfishness? I don't get it. Where I live, masks have been mandatory since last July and that's as it should be.
