    “It’s no taxi driver” is such a funny way of calling something average

  • @redwolfpaper7691

    I had no idea Hader was such a cinephile. It makes me love the man even more. This the the first interview I’ve seen him in, where he’s actually relaxed enough to be himself and not play the “funny man” everyone expects him to be. No nervous laughter here. He’s genuinely enjoying himself and it’s so refreshing.

      An actor liking movies. Novel 😅

    • @redwolfpaper7691
      @redwolfpaper7691 4 года назад +65

      DeathBeforeDecaf Liking movies, sure. Who doesn’t? But actually loving the medium enough that you dig into the history of it, watch everything you can get your hands on and are open and eclectic enough to appreciate films of various quality and genres on their own terms. That takes a special type of film geek. The type that usually pursues a career behind the camera. I rarely see actors discuss their love of the craft beyond a few favorites or classics that inspired them.

    • @hellointernet9561
      @hellointernet9561 4 года назад +23

      Yes, and also his ambition never was to become an actor in the first place, but be the maker behind the camera like you said.

      It's excellent! And, of course, it makes me think about my own movie watching journey. We all have one. And the fact he's opinionated about movies.
      When I was in university and me and my friends used to watch alot of movies. Some people in our group picked The Natural, a way too often. Doug.
      My tastes were way left field of the group so I watched films by Scorcese, and others like him, by myself and then watched the popular movies with the gang.
      But the girls in our group of friends were cute so.....I tolerated a lot of average films.

    I grew up in Tulsa and was a childhood friend of Bill's. When he says that he would watch for the reaction of his friends when turning them on to something ( film or music ) he isn't lying. He turned me on to Pink Floyd , Frank Zappa, A clockwork orange, etc.... His dad had a killer music collection.

      @doc2earth 5 лет назад +69

      @@Cottagegay Film experiences? No not really. We would listen to the vinyl soundtrack to A clockwork orange and act out the fight scenes which go with the sound track. Record our voices on a cassette and he would do a lot of the old Dana Carvy stuff from SNL. When he made SNL I ran him off with my conspiracy theory crap. I used to mess with him about the elite and what not and he was like '' dude I gotta go'' lol I don't blame him. Damn that was almost 20 years ago. My dad still grooms his parents dogs every now and then. I'm not expecting him to reach out any time soon haha.

    • @byronp2311
      @byronp2311 5 лет назад +9

      Grew up in Tulsa myself. It was a bit weird. I'm way older than Bill. There weren't any multiplex theaters at all, but I saw so many films as a kid (my parents liked me to get me out of the house so this was at least a weekly thing for me). One that I didn't see was one of the first X-rated (this is when the system started; 16 or older) films and it starred Haley Mills (pregnancy or lack thereof was involve, so....). Sweet little film, but I babble (and I'm damned good at it). Tulsa is actually an international seaport. Check yer maps and go, "WHAAAA?!?!" They spent most, well all of my childhood dredging the Arkansas River. It is called the Port of Catoosa. Look it up. It's my favorite Tulsa tidbit.

My movie education happened in my teens, there was/is a public channel in Australia called SBS (set up as an ethnic channel in the early 80s) which showed foreign films, tv shows and documentaries. Quality stuff, and 100x better than the commercial channels, which showed the same movies - think vacation, European vacation, etc. Remember, that Oz had only 5 channels in total - 3 commercial and 2 public - until the 1990s when cable came in. I think that if i'd had an older brother or father, etc,. who was a cinephile or audiophile, I would've got into quality stuff earlier. But then again, maybe it would not be until i was ready to be exposed to those sounds/images in my teens that I could appreciate it. thanks for upload, nick

      I love Bill's comedic undressing of it. It could be funny out of context.

      owenhunt Haha. Eyes Wide Shut’s alternate title really could be “Tom Cruise is Tryna Fuck.”

    My Dad was the same, i would sit with him at night and watch all sorts of movies.. i watched nightmare on elm street when i was 9... me and 2 friends at his house while his sisters were in charge of the house.. and i remember our friend damian had this orange juice before the movie.. and when we watched the scene where (spoiler alert :) ) the girl gets cut to ribbons on the ceiling.. he puked up all his orange juice all over himself.. After that we cleaned him up.. watched the rest of the movie and then watched JUMPING JACK FLASH :)

    i dont remember where but I remember Bill Hader telling the story when he was a teenager in high school and somehow he showed a VHS to ben stiller a short film he did and how years later they met on SNL. Bill hader actually worked on the production side of several classics. I think he was a production assistant in Predator or something,
