The best way to appreciate LaBrie's work in DT is by listening to other professional singers doing his lines.
I would say Labrie is one of the best worst singers, it is a weird contradiction, but his music is extremely hard to sing. At his prime he was one of the best singers of all time, but now while he can still sing them, the biggest problem is that he goes off key constantly and his voice has this weird nasal quality to it which is very hard to enjoy. But there is no doubt about how hard his songs are to pull off.
I totally agree. These younger singers might have a good vocal technique (even though this guy seems to make quite an effort to sing those lines) but they generally have poor expressive skills. So I get bored after a few minutes 😐 None of them gets even close to what Labrie did in the 90' both technically and performance wise.
😂😂😂😂
I get it. I just wish the lead vocal here had some reverb. just a bit and a little delay too. At least it wasn't auto-tuned. I hate that.
I mean...he did a heck of a lot better than James does singing it live, at least today lol
Wow... it sounds just like the live album. Hearing this performance, The band sounds just like the old, original DT. But when DT now play this same songs with Mangini, it sounds totally different. My respect to Mike Mangini, awesome drummer. But watching this performance, Mike Portnoy was Dream Theater's soul.
I feel exactly the same.
I'd definitely have to agree!
Agreed
I love Portnoy but I also love Mangini and I so sick of these kind of comments. D/T is an insanely great record and DT is doing just fine with Mangini behind the skins. This has to be put to bed.
@@bbowman105 DT used to be much more than "just fine" with Portnoy. 😛
Eric Gillette is the most underrated guitarist in prog
he's not even trying xD
But my favorite one
Really love his solo stuff as well as his work with the Neal Morse Band, got a meet and greet with him (and Mike) earlier in the year and he was a super nice guy too
And that’s just _one_ of the instruments he’s really great at
I agree, and he’s my favorite! He’s probably the MVP too with his world class guitar, keys, drums and amazing tenor vocals. The Neal Morse Band hit the motherload with Eric (and Bill)!
For those of you enjoying this and unaware, I posted many clips from the tour back in 2017:

Thank you, Mike, from the bottom of my heart. You are the soul of this music!
There’s no one like portnoy
I’ve seen Dream Theatre live twice yet this show Mike Portnoy’s Shattered Fortress was levels above. Yes they had more musicians available but they were young , obviously idolised Dream Theatre and they knew every note like they know the back of their hand. Easily made number 3 in the best performance I’ve ever seen.
We want more from this concert please 😁
I want it all... and I want it now!
Portnoy.. You are the SOUL of Dream Theater... Just perfect!
Indeed, he is like the caffeine of Dream Theater, now we have a good Dream Theater, but caffeine free.
@@MrBluesboy21 Damn no wonder I'm a caffeine addict
@@MrBluesboy21 Thats hilarious!
So MP went from "I need to take a break from DT music" to "playing in a DT cover band where the spotlight must shine on me at all time, even during the guitar solo"...
i guess Im kinda randomly asking but do anyone know of a good place to watch newly released series online?

That's the way DT songs sound, that drumming sound is impossible to replace. That's PM = Power Mike! 😉
Yeahhh, I missed that too bro
Best DT cover ever. Haken slayed. Btw feels like Portnoy keeps on being DT’S heart after all.
Yeah and his back😊
Never even heard of this lineup with MP doing DT songs... sounds amazing
Eric Gillette = The Best A Guitarist Can Get
man I still love Portnoy as a drummer
Mike Portnoy = Soul of DT
John Petrucci = King of DT
John Myung = THE IMMORTAL
Jordan Rhudes???? 🤔
Jordan = prince of peace
La Brie?
Muyng hasn't aged even a little
@@victormuriel7266 asian aging for sure
Welcome back Mikey, we missed you!!
Eric Gillette monster
@Wira Wirawan Wtf? Did you search an arrengement? Lol
Mike portnoy awesome 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Love the shot at 2:18. Eric nailing the petrucci parts with mike having fun in the bg
He did NOT nail them.
gr8guitarplayer HE DID 😍
@@gr8guitarplayer Maybe not in this performance, but at the concert I went to, he certainly did.
@@smurfiennes You need better ears.
@@gr8guitarplayer who fucking cares. Perfect playing =/= great performance
Amazing
My favorite backing vocals from MP, strange deja vu. It was the first thing I notice when I heard back then the album. Sir your are a True legend. Not even the pure magic that everything gets together on this music but if I close my eyes, in a second i can tell thats you playing. That you for sharing this with us. Cheers
Thank you Mike, awesome..
WE NEED MORE OF THIS MIKE!!! GIve us the whole thing!!
Mike Portnoy, is back home, will it be that this time we will have what we want, the complete Shattered Fortress show with the band we love so much? Or better yet, will we have METROPOLIS pt 3? This day is unforgettable!!! greetings from El Salvador
I never thought I would see someone other than Petrucci play 1928 live with good audio and video recording and play it clean.
his back. king
Mike you bring the old DT's soul back, well i miss that time like old days
Eric Gillette is a beast!!
Watched this in São Paulo, easily the best concert I ever went
So do I, my friend.
Foi incrível
É nóis. É o show que mais me emocionou até agora!
Woow Mike. Thank you. From the Bottom of my heart. On 3.20 i can see my dad. He past away last year. This means more then the world to mee!
My god!!! Vocals pure and on point
Love the Hetfield Yeah at 4:34;)
Wow this singer, and this lineup just so great!!!
Thanks Mike Portnoy
Grande maestro... ídolo máximo!!!!
Saludos desde Chile 🇨🇱!!!
I SO want a DVD of this concert!!!!
eennymo yeeeee
So do i.. I was there at the show!! So i want to spot myself😉. Live dvd’s from a show you were actually there have a special thing. The energy from this show was so unique. Mike Is one of my top 3 favorite drummers and a big inspiration for my drumming.
Same, I had a ticket to the London show but I couldn't go to see it 😭😭😭
Don't we all? But it's unlikely to happen, the reason being (if I'm not mistaken) to avoid any kind of tension with DT. There's a possibility that more will be released via RUclips though, so all hope is not yet lost.
Drummer Guy i know i’ve read an interview with mike
Sometimes I have to remind myself just how lucky I was to see MP's Shattered Fortress at ProgPower 2017...an event in which Haken also headlined a night performing Visions entirely... and then to see this as well?! ...I'll never take it for granted...
I was very lucky too. I had the privilege of hosting Mike for a drum clinic at my store right after Images and Words came out. He arrived very early in the morning so I picked him up at the airport and we went back to my house to kill a few hours before we headed to the store. I thought he’d be wanting to rest after his flight but to my surprise, he was very energetic so we jammed in my studio. Nothing like getting private lessons from MP! Clinic went great! He was a sweetheart of a guy!
Thanks for share this awesome performance Mike! This is beautiful! Hope this comes out on a BluRay/DVD some day.
Saw this show when it came to London: best gig ever. The energy coming from the band and audience was electrifying!
happy 20th on SFAM . greatest album in all of rock and roll!
Oh my God!!! Post more, please Mike. I was stay in São Paulo in tour show 21/10/2017 was WONDERFULLLLLL
Fucking Amazing, Hands Down The Best Live Rendition of these Songs
I want to hear this entire concert with this mix naow.
Exceptional !!!!
Holy shit ! Video and sound quality are amazing !
My inspiration
Mike and this guitarist what a level !!!
Great band men. 👍👍👍 Great
This is one of the best shows i've been to. It all sounded so tight and refreshing with Ross on vocals. When the Glass Prison intro started.. goosebumps! Seeing Mike playing Finally Free and going nuts at the end is enough to make an awesome show!
I have a dream that one day i´ll see you again in DT!
Never clicked on a video so fast in my life before this one.
ManOffTTC same
Same 😆
Aye. Same.
It's nice to be able to understand the vocals. Great band!
So good to see you play this again, I miss you in DT!!
Really impressed... No one can replace portnoy ...
3:55 is unique ... when the keyboardist looked at Mike, seems he knew what Mike will do :)
it's because he actually knew that
I mean, it's literally on the album.
Just wow !
I loved this song 🖤 my favorite all the time and life 👌🏻😎🖤
Also they are incredible players
Really impressed with the vocals as well.
Felling happy to see this.. 😍
The best thing I've ever woke up to hear
Wonderful !!
PLS WE NEED THE FULL CONCERT ASAP AHHHH
If James Was singing and I was just listening to the audio... I'd never know this wasn't DT.. Mike you found some great players on this, been a fan since 99.. This is awesome
I'm so glad I got to see this in NYC... even if I did break my phone during the pat down
goosebumps.
Amazing. Thank you Mike for sharing this with us!
Awesome 🤘🏼 좋아요
Adorei essa versão... !!!!!!!
Instrumental impecável..vocal.. apesar de acostumado com o Labrie cantando ficou excelente !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved this version!!!!! Amazion Portnoy !!!!!!!!!!
Qual o nome do tecladista?
Portnoy is a freaking BEAST 🥁🥁
5:56 my favorite part..... I like the basslines and riff
please, Mike, upload more of this
Cool version. I’m a big fan of Ross Jennings, his interpretation of LaBrie’s vocals is beautiful. It isn’t an easy voice to mimic, nor is Jennings. Gillette has some awesome chops. However, the mix job left the keyboardist out on the dark. His parts were fire.
Still prefer the originals, including the 20th anniversary tour with Mangini adding his prowess to Portnoy’s drums. It was super clean and I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed it until after the show in Philly.
Scenes From a Memory is one of my all-time favorite albums. The story still sends chills down my spin, even after I bought it 19 years ago. Still had the feeling watching Portnoy jam it out with these all-stars on stage.
This record changed my life, i was lucky to see DT in Rome during the Scenes from a Memory tour and i couldn't take my eyes off Mike. I was just a kid and i never thought someone could play like that. Great memories.
Finally I can watch and hear DT again, after several long time
Proud to say I was at that concert........Ok I see Portnoy in the Netherlands and I'll be there. Starting at the first DT concert in the Netherlands in Utrecht in 1993.......sh!t I'm getting old.
DT’s music is like the kid in a awkward divorce.
FanaticalDrummer 😂
FanaticalDrummer you would know huh, ya putz
So true
And I just want the parents to get back together!!!!
@@jimborocks8372 Listen to Flying Color's last album and maybe you won't care so much about that divorce. I don't care anymore :)
Que Belleza.
Fans say all over the world. Come back DT.
really MP missed u in DT
Awesome!
All the "Takes 3 guitarists to replace Petrucci" comments are hilarious. These people seriously don't get that there are multiple guitar tracks on the album and this allows that to be played here. It's not 3 guitarists to match Petrucci. Not like he plays multiple guitar tracks live on his own.
Well, I can only speak for myself, but for the way you're saying it, those comments don't refer literally to the amount of guitars recorded on the album by Petrucci, but to his talent. I mean, this is pretty obvious.
and yet... he still gets it done on his own without 2 other players. lmao!!!!
@@Freedum_Fries except he doesn't because there are parts missing live. Sure these guys could have gone out with just Eric Gillette and done that but they obviously wanted to include the other parts that were recorded. It's nothing to do with ability.
In this case, search for Overture 1928 Isolated guitars - it was only double tracked. John plays a stereo rig with a 7millisecond delay between each side to achieve the same "width" for most songs.
@@edw5761 There's nothing more tragic than a failed /whoosh.
Awesome.
Congratulations
Mike Portnoy
Amazing prog Band. 🤘
My Portnoy is the heart of Dream Theater.. I can't feel Mangini's drumming but i like his attitude. Mike Potnoy is irreplacable.
I
love you mike!!
This show in Sydney was INCREDIBLE
Dude, I was front row in Sydney, and you're right. It was fucking phenomenal!
One of the best shows I ever attended!
DT celebrates 20 years of Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory on her current tour.
Mike Portnoy: Hold my beer
Saw that tour right before the whole world went to shit... great show... but this is a whole different kind of amazing
Good live!
Hope one day DT will let you release this officially.
haha never 😢
What possible reason could they have for doing that?
@@sourcescience the guys wouldn't mind, but I'd be the management would be a pain in the ass
Mike you are the only, you are the only style!!! That’s awesome!!
Watching this felt like home.
(Not pun intended)
i love Mike
this is more like Mike Portnoy ft. HAKEN XD
True
It's the Eric Gillette experience ft. some other prog dudes.
i thought that i was hallucinating...
Mike Portnoy Ft Haken and Eric Gillette
Great to see you playing this 😀 you are one of my drum heroes
20 years of me having this shit in my ears. This is a deathbed album; This is THE deathbed album.
Like, Deathbed: The Bed that Eats (the album)?
Was a great show
When Haken and Neal Morse Band unite. Best of the prog world 🤘🏻
