Do you think Reliance's partnership with 7eleven work wonders? Or are there any weak points? Anyway, you can invest in the Great Indian Middle Class smallcase and take advantage of this business war: : link.smallcase.com/dTnO4gx2ijb
I hv simple question for you and Reliance both.. If you, me, everyone are aware of these micro things SevenEleven was doing for years.. Why can't they just simply apply these strategies in their existing stores. We certainly don't have shortage of skill in our country who can't apply these things. Why reliance would like to loose on profit margin by sharing their profits. Please share your views that wud definitely enhance my knowledge too..
1.Product variety is available but more SKUs are not present due to inefficient back end infrastructure 2. Poor inventory control at certain locations is a concern. 3. Strong competition globally from Carrefour, Metro A.G., Tesco 4.Operationg cost are too high 5.Wallmart is biggest competitor when it comes to sourcing/ backward integration
This man has alone changed the outlook of India. Cheap cost internet through Jio has brought digital revolution as well as his contribution in retail industry.
1. Understanding people’s need time to time so that spaces in the shop can be left for more demand items 2. Noticing the small things like mom leaving the child to school and returning home 3. Teaching billers about noticing the demand 4. High price at month start and low price at the month end of packed foods

The cost cutting at the end of the month is a strategy which Reliance Fresh has been using for years. At the beginning of the month you have so much offers which pushes you to purchase more than what is required as you have enough money in hand and at the end of the month as people are less with less money, the purchase capacity is less so the offers are also less.
Ganesh is a typical MBA grad who has the brains to solve his management case studies and put it on You Tube. Wish I had done this during my college days.
What I think is 7 Eleven was a lifestyle thing for them to spend some time while the local rivals had amazing presence everywhere in the country and were more familiar with the vernacular needs
But if they fail to recognize like in Indonesia, they didn't understand the culture of Indonesia. I am pretty sure that in India trend changes like crazy. Reliance will get profit for sure because I believe king can only understand the culture of his kingdom not a neighborhood kingdom. Both of them should be careful with their move I believe, if they miss one step or move of the consumer they said will get loss instead of profit.
@@dv9239 true they need to have a great advertising statergy. Also Indians are usually tend to not waste money they might buy a glass of juice and sit in seven eleven for hours.

I've watched the attached video about Why seven eleven failed in Indonesia and it triggered few weak points or challenges that it could face entering in the Indian market. 1. Like Indonesia, indian youth mostly visit the place and purchase very less, students time pass in these stores rather than making any big purchases. (It might attract some great crowd but profitability is a question) 2. On the other hand we have D mart running offline retail market with profits. 3. As far as I understand, there's just the additional expertise in terms of micro analysis that's being added to the reliance retail chain with this deal. This expertise can be either developed or imitated if companies like amazon focus on market research and micro data analysis in the indian market. 4. We have regulatory issues in India which again differ from state to state, especially if they sell alcohol. We indeed have states with public alcohol banned. So that becomes a challenge and some may oppose such move if sold publicly.
It will be interesting to see where the locations of these 7/11s will be. Online combined with physical stores is a deadly combination which is how amazon became this big . This could be an equivalent to when Amazon acquired whole foods.
I don't think they will be online. 7-11 is a convenient store in US but of course they can open big supermarkets in US. Aren't there enough supermarket players already. I am not very hopeful. In my small town the best supermarkets are still ones owned by local players - some with multiple stores
@@jeejon9107 they will probably use these stores as a pick up or drop off point for packages ordered through their online arm. 7/11 itself wont sell anything online or even if they do that's an add on.
@@jeejon9107 i live in a really small town, yet we have 3 of the Reliance retail stores(fresh, digital, trends). So, I am pretty hopeful that if reliance brings 7eleven, they will open a branch in my town...
I think such a boost in the affordable retail sector will affect the local kirana stores and I am really curious to know how the FMCG industry will take a turn after the 7/11 stores
There is strange phenomenon in my locality where a co-operative society started its super market and they started to sell everything . And it started to hit many stores. But there are some exceptions some of the kirana stores which were quite famous are still doing well. So don't know how it will effect to all kirana store
After watching your video attached on why 7 eleven failed in Indonesia, I feel that in India it should not entertain to serve alcohol and food and confine its operation only to selling provisions. With partnering with a conglomerate like Reliance there should not be any problems when it comes to expansion all over India. However the challenge remains to attract its own customer base in a country like India where people wait to buy at discounts rather than original prices(which in case of 7 eleven is during the last week of the month)
The 7-11 store in Indonesia concentrated mostly on alcohol and had sitting arrangements. It will be suffer loss or lesser profit if it allows sitting arrangements for snacks because india is a population of youth and most unlikely like spending less and talk for hours.

It would have been great if Reliance had collaborated with some Indian companies, implemented 7 eleven strategies and tried to build a good ecosystem as it can withstand a lot of cash burn...
They did use that cash burn with reliance fresh. Heavy discounts, A/C stores and ran for losses straight for 2-3 years stores like Subiksha and others were out of business. And from next year reliance fresh was in profit. They can do that but there must be some reason they didn't.
