As a delivery executive in Delhi I would like to share my experience with this it's not 3 hrs part time job it's more than 5 hrs job
Point no. 1 it's not easy to deliver 60 packets
Point no. 2 it's not easy to carry the weight of around 60* average 2 kg
    It's just one side story
Earning 5k is nothing in metro cities with this kind of hardwork so to say this is a kind of an abuse to the unemployed youth of our country sorry to say the truth but that is a reality hope u understand. You will witness the fall of this company very soon 🙏

All these platforms are slowly but surely squeezing labour.
Look around n see the state of these delivery staff.
It's now heading to contactors. To reduce cost even more.
When more n more people are pushed to lower income .... Don't expect economy to boom.

My dad used to convey me to order milk through milk basket than bb daily because they used to supply milk through a blue plastic pouch which can be used as a dustbin cover later😂 I started to see more other people doing the same and this lead to closure of bb daily service in my gated society due to less daily order as people preferred to reduce the cost of buying dustbin cover also mb sold each milk packets 3 to 4 Rs less than bb daily

Personal opinion : Sometimes, in order to make your case, you just make up numbers. Even while comparing there is bias towards the case. E.g. for this video, salaries for dark store full time employee and milkbasket full time employee.
Also to add to that, in order to achieve the order numbers, the radius of the delivery addresses from the house will increase which will decrease the number of orders per delivery employee. Which I think is also a factor to consider

One point which i dont think is mentioned here is that milk basket supplies to societies/aparment complexes/gated communities only. they do not deliver to individual houses. so the way this helps many people in the society place orders together, and the delivery is further optimized as the delivery location is the same for a large batch of orders.

    I don't know how
for other companies the warehouse cost and delivery cost goes up from 30k to 35k but why 17k for full-timers in milk basket.
of course, 5k for part-timers is understandable.
One more thing, the Milk delivery system in India is already stable as there is no delivery cost for milk delivery, and especially in a state like Tamilnadu we are getting additional subsidies for monthly milk subscriptions.
The delivery of monthly subscribed milk is 3 rupees less than the same milk we buy in stores.
So penetrating through this market is tough for milk-basket.
Additionally, a customer will not order some products with milk daily, even if so on average they might order 30 rupees product daily. Why because in price sensitive market like india, people order only once a month for their groceries.

I don't know now but when they started there was a big issue that I saw in my society faced by them, many neighbors face the issue that their packages were stolen by someone else or Dogs damaged their parcels, because of this many faces trust issues with the company and also no one knows if they actually delivered the parcel or someone stolen from outside their flat. I never tried their services but many stops their service when they stops 1+1 milk sale all because of this issue and also in tier 2&3 cities they have huge competition with local vendors..

I asked yr back “ blinkit delivers goods in 10 mins ,why don’t you usually order from them?” She answered “but anyway I have to order milk /curd/ buttermilk from my general store everyday, so why not all at a time before going to office and also delivery boys is trusted since long /my general store also is sensitive/aware of my locality rules & customs”. Blinket/big basket boys have been penalized/ instructed multiple times for not filling RWA rules / throwing garbage including spitting in lift/ stairs . Anyway no one want strangers entering into your home. We have very bad experience with AC technicians hired from once welknown company. ( from calls from multiple technicians to coming without appropriate gadgets , damaged glass parts of windows while working on window AC , threatening to give positive feedback etc) . Once you call these outsiders who gave you worse services, you have to surrender to own locality technicians with big lessons learned .
My good experience is with Croma attached technicians ( all ,Samsung, voltas etc).

It's all game of per capita income . If India grows from low income group to the high income one people will start affording to choose convenience over costs. That's already happening where many people have started choosing subscription models of ott or RUclips over free but advertising heavy model of free consumption. Even premium subscription of RUclips is on rise. Only those will survive who have deep pockets enough to keep experimenting thru such process of constant evolution of new technologies, innovative business models as per changing technologies and changing public perception due to changing economic environment of the economy. Deep pockets is the only saviour in this unending long drawn corporate battle of survival. Your ability to raise capital continuously thru all thick and thins is the only big differentiating factor in all this corporate battle. Jio's success story over that of Vodafone idea or anil Amani group teaches you this costly lesson. Bansals of Flipkart had to surrender to Walmart's to take ahead their battle against Amazon. Only innovations and talent aren't enough. Ur financial ability to remain committed to your business venture is the only differential. Even milk basket takeover by reliance retail is the testimony of what I'm trying to convey you. After two decades to be able to serve your high paying customers choosing convenience over costs in higher per capita economic scenario you need to be able to survive that long at first place which is not the game of shallow pockets.

We currently value money over time. So everything is cheap but slow. In countries like usa, they prefer time over money so they try to do everything as fast as possible and burn through money because they sell products with larger margins.
We cannot do that because we sell stuff with low margins.
Thus during inflation, their prices increase making demand low whereas during inflation in India, we keep prices same or don't increase it by much while we make the product using cheaper items.
Ex: To keep mentos price to ₹1, they made mentos smaller.
To keep kitkat price lower, they started using less chocolate cream.
Just see the difference between a kitkat chocolate from UAE, USA and India.
UAE one is expensive but has a LOT of cream, usa one is a bit cheaper while Indian one is very cheap but we have like almost no chocolate around the wafer.

If the dark store is 15 KM away and each delivery boy carries 60 orders of milk, wouldn't the milk get spoiled for at least the last 10-20 orders by the time its delivered? If the delivery happens using cold boxes to prevent this from happening then that would increase the delivery cost further and needs to be accounted for.
Moreover the cuatomers would still be forced to use other quick commerce platforms if they need something delivered which they thought of in the middle of the day or evening and need it delivered immediately. This does not cause any issues to milk basket as such but its still a point since it means that a person cannot depend solely on milk basket for his/her quick delivery needs.

I just wanted to share some more reasons why I love using Milk Basket for my daily needs. Milk Basket is awesome because it doesn't have a checkout button. You heard me right, no checkout button. You just add the items you want to your cart and that's it. You can keep adding or removing items until midnight, when the cart freezes and you get your order the next day. It's so convenient, trust me.
For example, if I use Big Basket daily and I add some onions to my cart for tomorrow morning, I have to pay for them right away. But what if I change my mind and buy some onions from the market in the evening? Then I have to cancel my Big Basket order and go through all that hassle. But with Milk Basket, I just remove the onions from my cart, and I'm done.
Or what if I need to buy something at 11:58 pm at night? I don't have to wait for OTP or anything like that. I just add them to my cart, and they'll be delivered to me between 5 to 6 am.
Imagine if Amazon did the same thing. Just by adding items to your cart, they would ship them to you the next day. No hassle of checkout or cancelling at all.
This also gives Milk Basket another superpower: the Milk Basket wallet. I always top up my Milk Basket wallet so that I can enjoy this checkout-free experience.
Also, the monthly 149rs fee is deducted from my Milk Basket wallet, which gives Milk Basket a stable income and the money in the wallet is an interest-free loan for them.

I work in Amazon's Middle mile supply chain operations for entire Europe region. We know how costly the supply chain market is, and we daily brainstorm to get the costs lower and cheaper to get profits. But, this case study today looks like a loop hole for me.
You said that the delivery agent's salary is 5000/month. Does this include Petrol/Diesel costs?
If so, it will be a flop story in the coming months. Let me tell you how.
    For bike
    1800 orders per month.
Let's take Average distance per order is 4km. 1800*4 (A)= 7200 kms per month.
Average mileage for bike per 1 liter of petrol (B)= 35-40kms
(A/B) = 7200/40= 180 Liters of Petrol will be needed for whole month (C)
    (D) Cost of Petrol= 109.69~ 110
    (C*D)= 180*110= 19800
The cash burn for the delivery guy on Bike per month is= 19800-5000= 14800/month.
    For Auto
    1800 orders per month.
Let's take Average distance per order is 4km. 1800*4 (A)= 7200 kms per month.
Average mileage for auto per 1 liter of diesel (B)= 16.5kms
(A/B) = 7200/40= 180 Liters of Petrol will be needed for whole month (C)
    (D) Cost of Diesel= 97.69~ 98
    (C*D)= 180*98= 17640
The cash burn for the delivery guy on auto per month is= 17640-5000 = 12640/month.
Something is fishy in the case study. I hope you recheck correct it or correct me if I'm wrong.
    Thank you :)

Even if we are optimistic and consider a delivery distance of less than a KM per order it doesn’t make much economic sense for a delivery partner to do this, assuming he bears the fuel costs (we haven’t considered cost of vehicle maintenance either). He would end up making less than the avg daily labourer in India.

Hi Ganesh. First of all, thank you so much for all the efforts you and your team put into making such detailed and informative video case studies. I have been a viewer and follower of Think School for more than two years now!
I have a concern with respect to the case study this time - while it mentions Milk Basket/Reliance cracking "Quick Commerce", the business model of MB (and similarly of BigBasket and Country Delight) isn't quick-commerce but scheduled delivery. This is vastly different from what the likes of Zepto, Dunzo and Blinkit are doing. Quick Commerce is basically addressing the impulse purchase needs of consumers through e-commerce via dark stores. The concept of dark stores is having regular 1000 sft warehouses within local catchments to supply deliveries within 15-20 minutes. Any warehouse that's 15 km away (as mentioned in the case study) and is as large as 60,000 sft is a regular warehouse and not a dark store. And thus, MB doesn't fit into the definition of a quick-commerce company (at least for now, with their current BM). So actually, MB's acquisition by Reliance is its competitive play on Tata's acquisition of BB (much like how Tata acquired 1Mg and Reliance acquired NetMeds).
Saying that I completely agree with your insight of MB's successful strategy of building stickiness with the user through a daily consumable product like milk.
Pardon me for pointing this out! You are doing an amazing job, and I look forward to more such in-depth case studies from the house of Think School 🙏🏼

@@parthlimbani8415 You're quite correct! India has a deep penetration of mom-and-pop retailers that are reachable within 10 minutes by foot, if we consider basic groceries. While Metros (and a few Tier 1 cities) have the disposable income to pay for convenience to offset their impulse needs, the majority of the country doesn't but on the contrary, have more time at hand. Thus, QC would largely remain an ultra-urban phenomenon unless there are innovations in the last mile delivery that could drastically reduce the costs (drone delivery, etc.). However, SD businesses can be made viable even in the deeper parts of the country as they are based on the fundamentals of driving repeat purchases.
