    I was incredibly excited for Dawntrail before the Fanfest. I felt like I knew where the story was going, and it looked interesting. I would say I was 8/10 going into JP Fanfest.
    Coming out of Fanfest, I'm 11/10, easily. Solution Nine just completely threw all my preconceived theories into a blender and made margaritas with them. I have no idea where the story is going, and I love that feeling.

    • @JMulls
      @JMulls  8 месяцев назад +1

      Same, I was maybe a little bit more lukewarm on it before Fanfest, but its like you said, I love the feeling of not knowing what in the world is going on and with Solution 9 and all that, I am squarely in that exciting wanderlust zone where I just want to play the game right now.

    I mean if people genuinely thought the expansion was just going to be a summer vacation and chill...that's really on them. The devs made jokes multiple times about how "yeah sure it's just a vacation." in other keynotes. It's pretty crazy to hear them say "We have a lot of surprises in store" and for people to go "Yeah whatever, I know what this expansion is going to be, yawn"

    • @raisylvaine8398
      @raisylvaine8398 8 месяцев назад +2

      “It’s gonna be 90-100, a some trial bosses, an 8 man raid series and alliance raid series, blah blah blah”
      Genuinely I turn my brain off around those sorts of people.

    • @shawnscouten5184
      @shawnscouten5184 7 месяцев назад

      Just a summer vacation “wink” could mean a lot of things, its a pretty generic thing to say, even actual “just summer vacation” stories say that about themselves and refer to plot twists or something like that. It could also easily be interpreted as just the lost city of gold or something boring like that, I don’t think anyone could have reasonably expected multiple cyberpunk areas.

    • @shawnscouten5184
      @shawnscouten5184 7 месяцев назад +1

      Also, Yoshi-p doesn’t exactly have the best record when it comes to statements. Like at around 6.0 he promised that there would be “an event that changes everything you know about ff14 lore” during the 6.x patches, and that kinda never happened, or the whole Endsinger ex is going to be one of the most difficult Exs, and then it ends up being easier than pretty much every final expansion boss ex was besides ultima. Also, Ff14s patch cycle is quite stale, so it is possible those people we’re referring to that when they said they knew exactly what was going to happen.

    As exciting and cool as seeing the future-tech city of Solution Nine is, my hope is that they don't just straight catapult us back into some crazy mega bad. I want this to be something really cool and mysterious for us to explore, but not have it have some kind of big world ending consequence if we were not able to solve it thereby thrusting us back into having to save the world yet again. Shadowbringers and Endwalker did so well because it took its time to build up to that point with it's previous expansion. And yes people will say that coming off a big high to something simple and grounded may seem dull and boring, but you need those low moments in order to appreciate the high moments, if you're just chasing the next big high, then you just end up looking for whatever the next big bad is which then makes the whole experience and adventure feel very dull and a can make past achievements in the story feel watered down.

  • @Trattato68
    @Trattato68 8 месяцев назад +8

    One more thing to mention. Now that they no longer have to think about building the game from scratch in two years like they did with ARR, they can tell a new 10-year saga that is truly organic in every way.
    Because if you go back to ARR and HW you notice some retcons that went unnoticed and only from Shadowbringers onwards did the narrative direction become clear

    • @JMulls
      @JMulls  8 месяцев назад +4

      Yeah, they aren't ever working from square 0 again, they have a foundation they can work off of and from to branch into stories they really want to tell, and it feels like the world is bigger than any one individual storyline and for an MMO, that's a great place to be in imo

    As someone who started playing at the very tail end of Shadowbringers, I had no real emotional investment into the recently completed story arc. This is mainly attributed to the fact that I didn’t experience each expansion as current content with the rest of the player base and more so just speed ran through the entire MSQ so I could catch up in time for Endwalker. Even though I reacted to the heavy story beats, it didn’t hit me emotionally to the core as compared to a veteran player that had been along for the ride for years. So it’s safe to say that I am extremely hyped for this new expansion and story direction now that I am a current player☺️

    One of Final Fantasy XIV's big strong points to me is the design of Zones and locations. It has just that big variety of themes that really gets you every time you enter a zone. And unlike other MMO games like WoW, you do not need to re-experience a Zone a bajillion times for every character. And that is great.

    • @TheOneGreat
      @TheOneGreat 8 месяцев назад +2

      And yet they all look nice but a pretty much empty in terms of gameplay and completely lifeless. Such a waste, honestly. GW2 isn't perfect, but their zones are leaps and bounds better at making you feel they're alive. XIV's are like a painting. Pretty to look at but completely static.

    With all the content FF 14 covered and added over the course of its time, as well as what HASN'T been featured yet, I'm excited! We got to see places like Ivalice and seeing the potential for something futuristic like Zanarkand would be awesome. Im crossing my fingers.

    • @JMulls

      There's so much stuff they could do in the future, and with all the other shards they've hinted that we'd explore, the sky's the limit

  • @gumi2521
    @gumi2521 7 месяцев назад

    To be honest this was to be expected, most if not all expansions they always mentioned how they wanted to go even beyond what people expect them to go.
    Yoshi-P using as refferences going to Ishgard but then revealing sky islands, going to kugane when expecting ala migho, going to Eulmore in Shadowbringers, or going to the edge of the universe in Endwalker when we thought the endgame was the moon.
    We knew there would be more going on than just a vacantion to south america, but it wasn't until now we got a full showcase of what to expect.

    Solution Nine is protected from Meteon's Final Song I guess - that's their final "solution" against Calamity, by the civilization more advance than Garlean, Sharlayan combined. So the plot is -- what's next over there?

    • @JMulls

      I somewhat side with Mr Happy here, I think it's somewhat digital or was created by one of the civilizations between now and the Ancients. Not sure how much I agree with some people saying Allagans, I feel like its something else or at least with a layer of separation from just "and it was another Allagan research outpost"

    • @mattp994
      @mattp994 8 месяцев назад +1

      Colonists from 'elsewhere' is a decent guess. Solution Nine is named after one of Zidane's trance moves in IX, he was a 'Genome' a being from another world whose civilisation had essentially built an ark to travel to and assimilate another world.

    If you thought it was just 60 hours of lying on a beach then I kinda admire your naivety. For all its flaws (of which there are many) I don't understand that particular one toward XIV. That being said, an ancient, hightly advanced civilization is hardly a new concepts in RPGs let alone FF. Like literally 50% of all FF story have that trope..

      Exactly! It feels like what 6.1-6.5 did but on a grander scale, where it started as us going on a treasure hunt with the squad and it turned into us going to save the 13th, we go to the New World to rig an election (joke lol) and have a summer vacation and end up in the Matrix!

    There's no doubt the story & world building will be unmatched & what makes FF14 the game it is. However many will have mixed opinions on the gameplay aspects especially when it comes to the job balancing. If the team can nail that portion of the game right off the bat than i think a lot of reservations about this new expansion will have players breathing a sigh of relief.
