The real reason why "Ukonvasara" sucks as a name for the relic in question is that the name translates to "Ukko's hammer", and the weapon itself is an axe.
It's weird to me that they did this. Not because Ukonvasara is an axe, but because while in FFXIV it's a sharp axe, in FFXI Ukonvasara is still a great axe but it does in fact have large, flat edges where the blades should be that makes it more like a hammer then a great axe. It's like they knew but elected to not make it a kind of hammer in XIV despite doing it in XI.
The items for the relics, when they were current, cost uncapped tomestones. At the time, it was law, esoterics, and lore. They never required the capped tomestones, which were esoterics, lore, and scripture. Which is nice. What isn't nice is that the amount of tomestones required was SO MUCH MORE. The Umbrite step, for example, cost roughly 27 thousand lore tomes. PER WEAPON. ARF was run a lot, since it gave 150 per run. Hence the idiom, "ARF 'til you BARF"
Not being able to spend Scripture tomes for the umbrite grind essentially made roulettes useless, so ARF grinding was really your only choice. And Twelve forbid you had a healer who couldn't dodge ice balls and/or a summoner who didn't have swiftcast...
Not to mention the light grind was absolutely criminal. Not only was it current so you couldn't just blast through in under 2 minutes, but the yield was lesser.
Don't forget that the Dispelling Arrows, Kingcakes, Titanium Alloy Mirrors, and Adamantite Francescas had to be HQ crafted and couldn't just be bought from company seals (unless you opted to buy the HQ crafted items on the market board, which the cost of all weapons combined would easily be up in the tens of millions.) Don't even get me started on the drop rates on those FATEs...

My goal by Dawntrail is to be top 25 on Excalibur/Primal and get to 85% completed achievements. Currentlyranked 32 at 78% completed. I watch your stream while grinding achievements! Thanks for the motivation!
Ah, for 85% completion - that's somewhere in the neighborhood of 22,500 at time of writing. Those numbers would put you up in the top 10 :) Keep grinding!
(psst! Little time-saver tip: For those parts of the game where you have to spam-click the same button over, you can spam-press numpad 0 instead. It's a bit easier on your hands than spam clicking. Also very useful when turning in lots of gear to your GC!)
30:16 Judging by this class list, I'd say he knows exactly what he's doing. Let's just say he's missing a little more than a relic weapon for one of his classes.
As someone that made all of the Relics as they were current (because I have a crippling completionist addiction) some of the grinds were painful; especially the first step of the Anima Relic as it was lengthened to be the same time as was predicted for Gordias Savage. So many damn Unidentified pieces...
At a tip: The scrips can be replaced with poetics or grand company seals. Scrips are just the most cost efficient way to do that step, since you can farm them easily. But there's an item in both the grand company and poetics shops that can be used instead if you don't want to level any crafters. From the poetics, you can use Superior Enchanted Ink and Thavnairian Mist for 6750 poetics for that step. From the grand company, you can use Moonstones for 1.5 million seals. Per weapon... Why'd I get all those moonstones...
Some tips that might help you - Farm SHB relic fates with HW fates (too late for that lol) - Farm ARR relic fates while doing the 10k fate achievements and the achievement fates (make sure its always equipped) - While waiting for fate on ARR relic books do your dungeon runs, pop out if not there, do the next dungeon. - You'll never be free of our Lord and saviour The Hunt - Do your tank achievements while doing mentor roulette. I will be honest, I checked your lalachievements timeline recently and my jaw dropped when i saw you got almost 800 achievement points in 1 day from relics! I am hoping to catch one of your streams soon. Anyways, now i am gonna enjoy your video!
Honestly was pretty fun helping you out with the light farming and victory laps, finally got me to finish some of the anima weapons I'd been sitting on at that stage for months.
I am now getting the memory of running great gubal hard like 40 times before realizing A1S was easy and quicker back in HW. Definitely wasn't stepping into a current savage tier at that point.
When I saw the lancer, I laughed so hard. Another great video. I swear it's making me want to try and complete my achievements. But then I remember how long it takes sometimes and then my ADHD side of me is like....Maybe I'll do it next week.
it's such a shame we'll never be able to get the dragoon relic weapons because the job is only available to estinien. oh well, the relics you got are pretty cool to make up for that! :) another great video, CS! looking forward to seeing you break top 100!
Naw, the deep Square lore in Keeper of the Lake is that one of its midbosses refers to the awesome shoot-em-up Squaresoft made in 1997. You might have heard of it -- _Einhänder._ The Endymion critters in Sea of Clouds are another reference - some of the playable fighter ships of Einhänder are called that.
Love the videos! During the down time before Dawntrail you have inspired me to complete the same challenge for the Gilgamesh server, top 100 here I come!
I've said it before one a previous one of your achievement hunting videos, but by the gods does this inspire me to get back into FF14. The only thing stopping me is that the place I'm training at for the next few months has horrible internet, and I refuse it on my 5+ year old gaming laptop, when I have a beast of a PC waiting for me elsewhere. Love the content, I'm glad you're taking the effort to edit these for youtube so we could all be along for the ride. My New Year's resolution is to just get my truck paid off.
Its wacky what achievement hunters go through. I've heard all of the pain from others in discords. I am not that strong. It's another thing entirely to watch it happen on a video log on a weekly basis lmao. As always I wish you the best in this hell and it's extremely entertaining watching the details + snarky commentary. It's a treat every week. And we appreciate you sharing your journey with us.
This week I'm sorry to report you may have missed out on more progress for hunts. At least on Aether, when the new year rolled around it seems like it reset all the SS rank hunt lockout timers, shortly after midnight on the first we had a chain across the servers of spawning (iirc) 6 or 7 in a row
Nah, there wasn't any unusual spawning behavior there, just more people around than usual. Timer reset looks significantly different, we'll see the true chains after 6.55 maintenance.
my goal is pretty simple in description but for anyone who has attempted it, they know it's anything but. my goal is to wrangle 7 idiots for an entire expansion's worth of raid tiers, extreme trials and ultimates. without it falling apart. running a static is suffering
My dude is committing to this grind with a deliberate handicap??? Damn, that's nuts. I hope you get every achievement that doesn't require Dragoon before you ever unlock it, lol. I've coincidentally also been grinding relics this week, although I'm starting with the ARR relics. It's not the most relevant for achievement purposes since there's only achievements for the first step for some reason, but my completionist brain won't let me ignore them. I'm at the point where I've gathered all the vendor and crafted materials and now I'm just suffering through the insane grind of SIXTEEN DUNGEONS PER RELIC to get the quest items I'll need for each one. Then I can actually start the relic quests themselves and turn everything in... although those quests have 2 entire light-farming steps per relic as well, plus a few other random trials, so it'll still be about as bad as Heavensward I think. Can't wait. My achievements this week: - Level 80 Culinarian and Bard - 50 guildhests - 80 unique Fisher leves, 20 unique Miner leves, 100 total fieldcraft leves - Rank 6 with Pixie tribe - 60 deliveries to Charlemend and 1000 total collectables crafted - PvP rank 30 with the Immortal Flames
Congrats on getting this beast of a grind completed! Its one big boost up in achievement score. You'll def 100% be in the top 100 in Diabolos if you keep this series up, but be careful to not burn yourself out. Late happy new years by the way! I myself won't be achievement hunting too much this year, but I do want to finish up all of the grand company achievements. Since I got all of maelstrom done in ShB, Immortal flames done in EW, now Gridania is next up for DT. For once in my life I will be 100% caught up soon with Custom Deliveries. That took me almost 3 years to get all of the 150 achievements. Time gated stuff is rough, but I am happy regardless.
Whenever I watch your videos, makes me wish I could join in and play with you Cider. You always remind me of ways to have fun in FF14. Keep up the amazing work!
Seeing you put tenacity and skill speed on the Machinist relic caused my soul to evacuate my body, and this post is being typed from beyond the grave by my ghost. :D
If you're looking for something chill to do next week, may I suggest ocean fishing? It's a good time! And open tournaments in the gold saucer are on the other hour, so you can alternate those to progress those achievements. And just do gold saucer fate stuff in general!
I've been waiting for this one since I heard you say on stream that you were stockpiling the materials. The HW relics are probably the most wild outlier in points of the entire list
"With each consecutive dungeon my soul dies a little bit more" - I get you bro, I am doing all ARR relics now, 11 relics, 44 runs of Aurum Vale per relic meaning 484 runs just to farm light were a nightmare...
To be fair, for achievement purposes, you only need to fully complete ONE relic from ARR. Everything else you need to do only the first step, AND that unlocks the base relic in the calamity salvager, so you don't even need to keep it around in case you want to complete the collection later down the line.
My New Year's resolution game-wise is to get a brand new character in a brand new account to 6.55 before Dawntrail drops. If you want to help out Rose Rubytear the Elezen on Excaliber, get to the end of Endwalker and get omni-90 on all jobs and earn the platinum trophy on the Playstation 5 version of the game, and maybe 100% most of the expansion DLC by doing the Savage raids, I'd be VERY grateful. I'm going to try to log in during the evenings so I have time in the morning to get trophies on my Playstation games.
i made dragoon and machinist on content. this was a hell of a grind, but watching flamethrower on a deathlocke lux for the first time gave me so much satisfaction
Oh, the pain you must have felt when you realized why you had "spare" materials leftover. I've also pre-farmed all the mats for the Heavensward Relics, but I haven't steeled myself yet for the amount of soul-crushing boredom that is going to be inflicted upon me from the journey. Someday... Someday... >.>
Another great and fun video! 👍 Honestly I’m still in shock of the amount of poetics, scripts and seals needed for the Heavensward relics. 😱 Which is why I never bothered with any of them. Good grief SquareEnix! 😩 You are a remarkable individual Cider Spider. ❤️
I like to personally thank you for getting me into doing more serious achievement farming. I am working slowly on the luminous tools. Just something I can do mindlessly if I feel like playing XIV but not go to Eureka (my only relic serise left). Its a grind, but quite a breather after doing Mentor Roulletes every day for like a year for the mount lmao,.
A project I've had in the back of my mind for a long time is setting up a character such that I get as many achievement points as possible in a 24-hour period. (I hardly know where to even begin on routing/scheduling that.) But man, what an insane amount of preparation that would be. Just seeing all the mats you had stored up just for HW relics makes me think that I would probably end up needing like 2 or 3 extra retainers just to stockpile all the items I'd need to hoard for the various turn-ins.
Grats on finishing all your relics! I love getting huge chunks of achievement points done all at once like that, I currently have 17 jobs worth of EW relics materials to turn in for that day because seeing the 500+ point jump is so satisfying. I want the patch to happen so I can gather the items from the last stage... until then I'm working on grinding the hoard which is... a slog :(
I did two of these when they were current I think? Maybe end of Heavensward, going into base Stormblood? And that was after I had broken down the ARR weapon versions into the Astral and Umbral nodules.....so yeah that was a thing. Anima is made from a chunk of your soul, without a doubt. And now I'm back trying to get the other 11 of them and kicking myself that I never hoarded the items. So Godspeed Cider, I salute you for having the foresight to spend your tomestones. I will be along in..... sometime next decade?
Since the last video, I have reached level 70 on samurai, explored the Excitatron 6000 and the Shifting Gymnasion Agonon for the first time, forged my tier 2 Manderville relic weapon for white mage, delivered my 36th collectable to Kai-Shirr and completed the 6.4 main story quest (yeah, I'm a bit late on story). The level 70 samurai achievement also provided me the achievements for reaching level 70 on all pre-Shadowbringers disciple of war jobs, and the achievement for reaching level 70 on all pre-Shadowbringers disciples of war & magic jobs. I am currently standing at #81 on Adamantoise with 17,765 points (Lalachievements scoring system), or 18,875 points (ingame). On topic of the video, I am almost done with the Heavensward relic weapons myself. Only one left (astrologian), and it's on the light grind phase. Only 40 points left to obtain from the anima weapons. I'll be a bit sad when it's over. 20 points per achievement was HUGE for that set! I also use my Sandungs Lux (final step anima weapon for ninja) as my main weapon glamour for that job since several years at this point. I LOVE the way they look. (21:52 in the video)
My (ffxiv) goals for this year involve getting all my wolves, hitting all 100s in dawntrail (almost done with 90s), and maybe get all relics of one class.
Honestly this video explains the disconnect between what the relics were, how these relics feel now, and how the new ones feel perfectly. The manderville relics, while I enjoyed the story, were soulless, plain and simple. They were a check box that meant nothing to me at all. And personally as someone doing what ciderspider is doing here, the HW ones can feel the same way. Yet, I know they aren’t. I did an ARR and HW as new content. I was apart of the fate trains around zones, the 2 hour waits for fates to pop, the reruns of crystal tower, begging our crafter friends to help us with the zodiac, and the 2 hour bonus light grind trackers. Making the relic were a community effort. The tome dumping ground will never show what it was but these new ones aren’t even trying to be that. I loved the jokes in shout chat while jumping fates in small ARR zones. I cherish the moments where we waited around at long fates and made friends. There is nothing funnier than the whole server realizing Garuda ex is up for the bonus light and the game can’t handle more instances of it so even with 8 players it had a couple minute wait time. That’s what the relics were and why endwalker felt empty. And if dawntrail even has a tome option like shadowbringers kind of did with non bozja options, the relic will be worse for it always.
Yeah I could never do all of these. Working on Paladin which will likely be my 3rd and final HW relic. I don't mind a grind considering that I'm a former Destiny veteran but damn, this grind takes it out of you. On the bright side, I had time to prepare items ahead of time so I'm blitzing through the Paladin relic at a fast pace, currently working on wrapping up the crystal sand step
Heavensward's were the first set of relics that I completed, in both senses of the word. In the downtime of ShB's first patch, it gave me something to focus on and use poetics and all the scrip and tribal currency on
We did green treasure maps for unidentified stuff, 200 poetics(or Soldiery, whatever it was) per map and if you managed to fail, which could happen because those were hard(back then), you had nothing. Other option was item exchange with Ulan, or beast tribes daily.
One thing I wanna finally do in ffxiv is get the necromancer title. My favorite title and of course it's one of the hardest lol. Love these videos and your journey to all achievements
my goal is to find the motivation to start playing again, and also fix the shaking of my arm, so it would actually be possible to play lol. Great video as always, glad you didn't lose all your marbles with this massive grind
I remember doing these when it was current, it was rough. We did A4S instead of A9S because you could kill it faster and easier so that it worth the slight drop in efficiency. Wasn't fun getting my SCH weapon because it was in the dark times when healers could miss without stacking accuracy
My goal in FFXIV is to catch every fish in the game. This is a multi year goal considering burnout happens >_> Been working on it for the past year and a half on and off.
Congrats on getting the relics, Cider! I find the Heavensward anima relics to be the most enjoyable to get. They don't require a ton of money like the Zodiac relics and don't require doing exploratory realms like the Eureka or Resistance relics. And they aren't stupidly easy to get like the MANDERVILLE RELICS. Seriously, Square-Enix was smoking weed when they decided to make the Endwalker relics nothing but spending capped tomestones the steps. (Yeah, you have to complete all of the Hildebrand storyline, but that's stupidly easy to get through.) I'd better start saving on crap as soon as I start playing new new character, the elf girl Rose Rubystar. She'll be omni-100 everything come Dawntrails. That means all 21 battle jobs. ^_^ And yes, I am deleting Nemona Rookie for the exact reason you hate these dungeons - Lalafells are TERRIBLE adventurers due to how tiny they are and how long it takes to move with their stubby child legs. X( I suggest you drink a Fantasia and become a femme Hrothgar when they drop the new femme lions with 7.0, but hey, you do you. XD
I"m not watchign this one bc I don't want to spoil what the relics look like for myself but I am gonna leave a comment to help with the algorithms! congrats on the relics!
I remember grinding the fates and dungeon for every hw relics about a year ago. Come today and all my weapons are sitting on the light grind! Ill uh, get that motivations someday.
Relics drain you baaadd. That’s why I can’t just do them back to back. I have done a majority of them but don’t burn yourself out!! Lol. Then again, gotta get it done!
Oh hey I'm one of those people who did this relic series when it was current. I think I have close to 1,000 runs of exclusively ARF just to farm the damn tomes for this quest series.
The real reason why "Ukonvasara" sucks as a name for the relic in question is that the name translates to "Ukko's hammer", and the weapon itself is an axe.
I mean what is an axe but a really sharp hammer?
@@ThatKirisamewhat is a hammer but an axe in dire need of sharpening
Instead of bonking its chopping :D but yea love the Finnish names but this rubs me wrongly
came here to say this. glad i didnt need to (so many games make this same mistake and its funny every time....)
That level 90 lancer is sending me into fits of sheerly deranged joker laughter and I can't stop. Good video.
Keep in mind the real grind for the Manderville weapons are the ten years of side quests you have to do if you weren't already caught up with them.
The way the "Child Labor" quest has just been left uncompleted. That has to be intentional.

Don't even get me started on the drop rates on those FATEs...
if I never do ARF again it'll be too soon
Some deep Charity Nineheart lore here: She can’t do the Dragoon relix, because she can’t be a Dragoon. Guess those tiny feet really aren’t made for jumping.
The ability to reach the light switch is a power that Hydaelyn denies the angriest baby for all our sakes. She would become far too powerful.
or the counter at a wendy's. we would all be doomed if angry baby could order her own wendys, instead Mom must do it (we have wendy's at home)

The worst part was when he hovered on the anima weapon achievements to really drill the joke home
Oh gods I went back after reading your comment and you're right!! Dragoon is missing!! Oh nooooo xD
Guess the grind is not over yet
It's a good thing he deleted all those extra pieces of relic items that'd just be clogging up his inventory...
why did he do that?
@@coreyd4482 I KNOW AAAH THAT HURTS TO SEE 🤣
Cider you are a complete madman. For doing almost all of this on stream. Also keep the Meme alive, because there is no Lancer Relic weapon.
That ending was painful when I realised you didn't have the Dragoon relic
30:16 I don't know, man. I don't see Dragoon on this list. Are you sure that's it?
31:03 he still doesn’t have drg achievements completed. Oh boy, guess back to step 1 😨
Thanks to this comment I noticed the first time he rattled off the jobs
Skipped my favorite (and currently only) HW relics.
The little "wah!" with each achievement or quest completion makes me smile every time :D
Wah!
My goal by Dawntrail is to be top 25 on Excalibur/Primal and get to 85% completed achievements. Currentlyranked 32 at 78% completed. I watch your stream while grinding achievements! Thanks for the motivation!

30:16 Judging by this class list, I'd say he knows exactly what he's doing. Let's just say he's missing a little more than a relic weapon for one of his classes.
I was worried he was doing it on accident and was gonna suddenly realize but it's for a bit apparently lol
As a DRG main, Your lack of DRG hurts my soul. We only lay on the floor because it feels nice and cool on our face.
So it's like when I was in undergrad and got shitfaced drunk. Got it, no wonder I've slacked in leveling dragoon.

my goal is pretty simple in description but for anyone who has attempted it, they know it's anything but. my goal is to wrangle 7 idiots for an entire expansion's worth of raid tiers, extreme trials and ultimates. without it falling apart. running a static is suffering
Can't wait.
My achievements this week:
- Level 80 Culinarian and Bard
- 50 guildhests
- 80 unique Fisher leves, 20 unique Miner leves, 100 total fieldcraft leves
- Rank 6 with Pixie tribe
- 60 deliveries to Charlemend and 1000 total collectables crafted
- PvP rank 30 with the Immortal Flames
Less Dhona keeps surging back to me like a goofy wave and i chuckle every time. Solid goof.
Som Al is one of my favorite dungeons in HW because it is just well done.
Whenever I watch your videos, makes me wish I could join in and play with you Cider. You always remind me of ways to have fun in FF14. Keep up the amazing work!
RIP Dragoon relic ;-;
I'm also on this journey. Good luck!
Seeing you put tenacity and skill speed on the Machinist relic caused my soul to evacuate my body, and this post is being typed from beyond the grave by my ghost. :D
If you want some recommendation for a chill farm, I'd say the chocobo races are pretty ok! Gj for the relics
You most definitely missed one. How do you even HAVE a Lvl 90 LANCER?!
If you're looking for something chill to do next week, may I suggest ocean fishing? It's a good time! And open tournaments in the gold saucer are on the other hour, so you can alternate those to progress those achievements. And just do gold saucer fate stuff in general!
I always felt the DRK Tyrant weapon reminded me of Nightmare 's sword from soul caliber
@@NibelungJ I don't hunt acheivements, I just want those weapons.
I am not sure why, but the way you screamed "THOK AST THOK!" made me laugh so hard that I hurt myself. 🤣🤣🤣
I remember doing this. The grind is real. AST weapon was my first Lux weapon and i earned my 13th and final Lux (MNK) about a year later.
I want the patch to happen so I can gather the items from the last stage... until then I'm working on grinding the hoard which is... a slog :(
Great job! Best looking weapons imo
That thumbnail picture of your Lalafell is great
I did two of these when they were current I think?
Love these vids man, keep it up!
I only did the summoner relic about a month ago and swore i wouldn't do it again.
I commend your commitment to the grind.
My (ffxiv) goals for this year involve getting all my wolves, hitting all 100s in dawntrail (almost done with 90s), and maybe get all relics of one class.
My new years resolution is to get to a point where "survive" isn't my goal every year. same as usual, but I'll get there eventually I'm sure...
Checks notifications, Cider Spider top of the list. "Aw yeah gonna be a good day!"
I had gotten 2 hw relics on the free trial.
To say it was pain is a understatement
Heavensward's were the first set of relics that I completed, in both senses of the word. In the downtime of ShB's first patch, it gave me something to focus on and use poetics and all the scrip and tribal currency on
We did green treasure maps for unidentified stuff, 200 poetics(or Soldiery, whatever it was) per map and if you managed to fail, which could happen because those were hard(back then), you had nothing. Other option was item exchange with Ulan, or beast tribes daily.
I finished 60 relics too. For now I'm working on the 50 relics which are the hardest imo.
Great job, Cider!!
Checking in a little late this Friday but that's okay. Love your stuff as always man
Something about this lil gremlin with the voice always gives me a chuckle
One thing I wanna finally do in ffxiv is get the necromancer title. My favorite title and of course it's one of the hardest lol. Love these videos and your journey to all achievements
I’m starting to feel like all of these are “Here’s a soul-crushing grind in your future that you didn’t know existed”
...Ah, damnit, I might have to grind that WHM stick...
wait no that sounded-
my goal is to find the motivation to start playing again, and also fix the shaking of my arm, so it would actually be possible to play lol. Great video as always, glad you didn't lose all your marbles with this massive grind
I remember doing these when it was current, it was rough. We did A4S instead of A9S because you could kill it faster and easier so that it worth the slight drop in efficiency. Wasn't fun getting my SCH weapon because it was in the dark times when healers could miss without stacking accuracy
i finished all hw relics in sb... before msq roulette and other easy poetic sources. I didn't know i was that crazy for finishing them. :D
For people wanting to pick up this grind, any named duty you have to complete you just need to equip the Anima weapon before you leave the duty.
keep up the grind homie, we see u out here
My goal in FFXIV is to catch every fish in the game.
(Yeah, you have to complete all of the Hildebrand storyline, but that's stupidly easy to get through.)
I'd better start saving on crap as soon as I start playing new new character, the elf girl Rose Rubystar. She'll be omni-100 everything come Dawntrails. That means all 21 battle jobs. ^_^
And yes, I am deleting Nemona Rookie for the exact reason you hate these dungeons - Lalafells are TERRIBLE adventurers due to how tiny they are and how long it takes to move with their stubby child legs. X(
I suggest you drink a Fantasia and become a femme Hrothgar when they drop the new femme lions with 7.0, but hey, you do you. XD
Movement speed isn't actually different based on size
I"m not watchign this one bc I don't want to spoil what the relics look like for myself but I am gonna leave a comment to help with the algorithms! congrats on the relics!
I find it funny as ya explain the stream privilege bit at 20:08 , that you have that Specific Kugane quest almost completed
I remember grinding the fates and dungeon for every hw relics about a year ago. Come today and all my weapons are sitting on the light grind! Ill uh, get that motivations someday.
I've been achievement grinding for a while, working on this weird anima for a job I've never heard of. It uses a trident? Maybe like a mermaid job?
Relics drain you baaadd. That’s why I can’t just do them back to back. I have done a majority of them but don’t burn yourself out!! Lol. Then again, gotta get it done!
Oh hey I'm one of those people who did this relic series when it was current. I think I have close to 1,000 runs of exclusively ARF just to farm the damn tomes for this quest series.
