  • Time to start modifying my new 2023 Honda XR150L, and in true LifeOfBurch fashion, you know we gotta start with mods that are either FREE or CHEAP! Today we took off the dorky warning labels, threw on some turn signals, modified the foot pegs, and modified the stock exhaust. But one of these mods definitely gives me the vibes that Honda did NOT want me doing it hahah
    Which of today's modifications was your favorite and which mods/accessories do you want to see me do to this thing in the future?! Stay tuned because I already ordered all of the OEM accessories that Honda Powersports offers for the 2023 XR150 and they'll all be going on soon!
    Get the turn signals featured in the video here!- amzn.to/42hEN82
    OR get the other (possibly darker) turn signals that I mentioned here!- www.ebay.com/itm/193848101136...
    (Sometimes the turn signals will go out of stock temporarily. If that happens, any CBR300R turn signals should work just the same.)
    This is the high temp paint that I used for the modified exhaust bracket- amzn.to/3WS8jQv
    Oh and this is the fanny pack that I showed on the XR150's rear rack- tinyurl.com/bdhs4c62

    As I got older I learned that quiet/stealth was an advantage when riding in areas that may be questionable to be in.
    Also more riding areas have been lost due to louder bikes and complaining neighbors than probably any other reason.
    And as far as the spark arrestor, yep you are illegal now on the State/National Forest trail and fire roads.

    Last time I rode in tennis shoes (when I was 15) I wadded up my Cr80r after colliding with a dog that ran out in front of me, I was in 6th gear and spooling up to about 60mph, I had no time to swerve as it ran out of the trees in front of me. Needless to say, my shoes flew off my feet and I shredded my jean jacket. As it was hanging off me in bloody tatters, I searched the bushes for my shoes for 20 minutes. My sister who was a disc jockey at a local radio station in Alaska dedicated "Die with your boots on" by Iron Maiden to me the next day lol. You'll probably want to rejet after opening the exhaust because it may be running too lean now. It probably runs borderline too lean stock to meet emissions. That popping on decel is a sign of lean fueling.

    • @dicksonfranssen
      @dicksonfranssen Год назад +6

      Everyone's forgotten because of injection. Lean is bad and can burn a hole through a piston. 30 minutes work on a 2 stroke, a trip to the dealer and no warranty on this bike.

    • @mitchwinder1204
      @mitchwinder1204 Год назад +7

      And he probably cost himself a horse, horse and a half, of power. Modern cans ain’t just baffles like the ‘70s. There’s actually some tuning that’s gone into them due to the emissions process. It’s louder, but it’s no more powerful. I’d put it back.

    • @dicksonfranssen
      @dicksonfranssen Год назад +2

      @@mitchwinder1204 I forget how it works, or used to work. Short exhaust = more torque, longer = more high end. You need a PHD to understand what goes on in a 2 stroke exhaust. Loud doesn't mean better.

      @trevorjameson3213 Год назад +3

      @@mitchwinder1204 That is absolutely true. The engineers who design these engines and exhaust systems know what they are doing, to get the least noise with the most power. I don't like them loud anyway. I'd keep it stock if I get one.

      @ronalddaub9740 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@dicksonfranssen this is a four-stroke engine you don't put expansion chamber's on 4 strokes an expansion chamber is a tune echo device to push wasted exhaust and gas back into the cylinder believe it or not and that's what gives the two stroke expansion chamber it's extra power and yes there are torc pipes and RPM pipes/ chambers. depending on how the engine is tuned.

  • @vaporwave4207
    @vaporwave4207 Год назад +65

    I’d be careful with freeing up airflow through the exhaust, fueling is generally set lean from the factory (mostly emission reasons) and removing the exhaust will cause the fuel mix to lean out more. with a efi system it doesn’t matter because the ecu will be able to detect a lean mix and correct it, but on a carb the only way to adjust fuel mix is by physically tuning the carb. The lean factory fuel mix and removing the exhaust might make a dangerously lean fuel condition for the engine. I would check the spark plugs regularly for a while and see if they’re showing any signs of a lean fuel mix.

    • @LifeOfBurch
      @LifeOfBurch  Год назад +16

      That’s a lot of fancy words magical mystery carb man 🤨🤔 But in all seriousness, I plan on keeping an eye on if it ends up running leaner, but I highly doubt that’ll happen just from removing a spark arrestor. Cat is still intact keeping back pressure and the outlet size from the cat isn’t changed by this. It just replaces the spark arrestor with an echo chamber essentially lol

    That bike is literaly inmortal. Here in Argentina is used mainly by delivery guys and is common to see it with over 60000 miles still running strong. Very common mods for that engine family are 190cc or 220cc big bore cylinder, performance camshaft, Servitec CDI and bigger carburetor (OEM XR250 or CRF230 carb will be great not chinese crappy flatslide). Easily hit over 20hp to the wheel very realiable because the bottom end is very strong.
    Probably you can source some performance parts from Vedamotors (Brazil) because that engine is very popular too there.

    Due to strict emissions standards, motorcycle manufacturers now must produce bikes to run "lean" to pass emissions tests. Your prolly going to want to re-jet the carb ASAP, now that you have removed the "db killer" from the muffler. Which in turn makes your bike run even "more lean". Lol, don't attempt any air box mods or add any high flow air filters to the mix until the re-jet.
    You will end up melting a hole in the top of your piston. You also might want to consider running high octane gasoline to prevent any engine knocking due to the extra lean condition too.

There are vehicles that sound awesome exhaust is uncorked. I don't think there are any audio advantages to listening to a loud small displacement engine. But I can think of advantages writing quietly and pleasantly on a trail bike.

    I did the exhaust mod on my 2017 XR150L and i was to loud and found it lost HP. So i cut off the spark arrester screen and put the end cap back in. HP went back to normal and sound went down just enough for my liking. My exhaust is a little different. My end cap is chrome. My foot pegs not the same either. I don't have the rat trap style under the rubber. The rubber is not able to be removed. I did jet the carb and have the cam ground. I also purchased a set of street tires and off road tires and switch them when i am going off roading. I also put a smaller sprocket on the front for off roading. My exhaust looks stock and at idle is quiet witch is very important for passing inspection here in the Philippines.

    With having that flat plate for the end cap, you could clamp in some stainless screening across the exhaust opening to act as a spark arrestor now too.

    The endcap is working like a resonance chamber changing the sound of the exhaust, which in my opinion sounds like ass. As in literally, it sounds like a wet fart every time it returns to idle. Thanks for the video though, i know what i wont be doing if i buy this bike.
    An easy test for the footpeg rubber though is to put one back on and feel the difference between the two. Im also curious if removing the rubber makes the reach to the brake/shifter easier.
