love them both ... my all time favorite legends, The Chinese Legend and The European Legend

When I think of the longevity of Waldner to stay competitive is simply amazing. So many time the coach of the Chinese team would be a player Waldner faces 4-8 years prior. The Chinese have dominated this sport for about 98% of the time, Waldner broke the tradition. Also, compare the population of Sweden to China and how many table tennis players in each country..it makes how good & rare Waldner was.

      MrYoumitube,
There are a lot of Chinese recreational TT players. There are not that many trained TT players. The Chinese TT team is really good because of a very good system, not that they have many players to choose from.

@@benthekeeshond545 Table tennis being one of the most popular sports attracts the elite of young athletes in China. That's not the case in Europe. No serious athlete living in a capitalist country would ever consider following a path in TT.
What we get are mostly leftovers of athletes who couldn't make it in football, basketball, tennis etc.So, there are certain differences between European and Chinese players.Besides, European teams can't afford training players for the sole purpose of being training partners like China.

We have to view this matter objectively. What you said is true but your theory also applies well within China's athletic system. I believe TT in China doesn't make as much money as those from football or basketball. TT is far from the most-watched sport in China. The last time I heard that football is still the most popular sport with the most spectators, then came basketball and badminton. We all know that they suck big-time in football. Basketball, around the top 10. Badminton, mostly the top 3.
Chinese are mostly spectators and they don't like to do the real thing. Actually, we may say that they are so good at TT is an anomaly.

@@benthekeeshond545 While Chinese are obsessed with football and basketball they can't improve the level of their internal tournaments.I think Zhang Jike used to be the second highest paid athlete in China.
Table tennis players don't enjoy the same kind of status in Europe. There has to be a reason why Samsonov and Boll stayed at the top for so many years. The competition in Europe is not so strong.

I have seen Waldner in so many games. Here he's not himself. First time where i see him lose easy points. He has played with much stronger opponents and he was doing unbelievable shots.

It's part of him as well. Sometimes wins the hardest game, sometimes lose the easiest, but it doesn't change the fact that he's a legend.

No, the service rule came into effect around September-October 2002. The 2003 Worlds was the first major event which was 11 points, 40mm ball and no hidden serves.
