  • I have always been fascinated by the British Folk Revival of the 1960s spearheaded by guitarists such as Davey Graham, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Martin Carthy and many others from the Les Cousins scene.
It occured to me recently that so many of the aforementioned musicians have changed instruments several times throughout their careers. However, there is one man who has kept the same instrument since the 1960s - the inimitable Wizz Jones.
Wizz has played his beautiful vintage Epiphone Texan acoustic guitar since 1966 (it's a 1963 model) and this instrument has a voice that I immediately associate with the great records I grew up with.
When my friends at The Guitar Showroom told me they had a vintage Epiphone Texan on site I knew I had to learn more about these cool guitars. So I nicked it.
Having spent a couple of days with the guitar I filmed a new video about the sound of the British Folk Revival - I really hope you enjoy it!
You can learn more about Wizz in this episode of Life On The Fretboard - my podcast for Fretboard Journal
