Probably the best backyarder I've seen . This looks professionally engineered. People seem to forget that all older rollercoasters were wooden and many are still operating commercially after over 75 yrs of service ...with only a handful of fatalities !

Money, really. Even if what you're building doesn't even compare to a full-size Wild Mouse coaster, these things aren't cheap.
I never said they would be cheap, I am determened to do it someday. Even if it talks a life time to save up the money/ land and get the knowledge to do it.
VestedUTuber Oh please! me and the neighborhood kids used to make down-hill coasters using 2x4s and the sled I got for Christmas. It snows in Georgia once in a blue moon, so I got more used out of the sled that way.

I really wouldn't call that a coaster. If anything, you reinvented the old Russian artificial sled hills that are generally considered the predecessors to roller coasters.
I think it's one of the best made of these. No terrible Gs at hilltops, banked curve, lift hill chain, professionnal looking build... This guy should try moving it into a mall and try to charge a buck or two...
He'd probably want to build something a bit bigger if he did that. Plus, he'd have to invest in the electronic safety equipment and pneumatic brakes necessary to pass inspection and keep the ride safe for public use.
That is so cool and , it looks very well made for a homemade roller coaster!

I think this is the coolest thing I've ever seen posted on here in the home DIY department! I dreamed of doing something like this ever since I was a kid, but never had the ability or land to do it. You should keep this up and running as a family heirloom. Many thanks for sharing.

I went from watching videos about water slides and some how ended with watching homemade roller coaster videos. Gotta love youtube. By the way this is the best one I've seen tonight lol I would ride it for like twenty minutes at a time.

Your coaster is magnificent! It has always been a dream for me to have one of my own. However, the true beauty to this story is how your Dad supported you completely in this endeavor. He also fully believed in your ability to build it correctly. Otherwise he would have never climbed that hill to take a seat. 🎢❤️

If kids showed up with a quart of white paint and a paint brush, they could exchange their labor of painting that quart of paint onto the coaster's woodwork for a couple go-arounds riding on it? The Coaster would be painted and would look great as well as the kids having had rides on it.
those who say that this idea is stupid or a waste of time, you should be calling yourselves the stupid ones. think of it this way; if it was'nt for the creative minds like the one of this gentleman and like my own, there wont be places like disney world, sixflags, universal studios and such. ya'll need a hobby. get one! the rollercoaster is freakin' awesome!

Well it's fairly crude, but it's better then some of the coasters I've seen (even NOT in backyards).

I wish he didn't tare it down. It truly was the BEST back yard coaster. The only one that feels like it was a real coaster credit. Unlike the crap one everybody is talking about where they shive you from a high point.

I want to build a back yard roller coaster with long banked curves and large drops. There are a few things I would do different. It would be around the perimeter of at least a ten acre lot in the mountains, and would be made of dirt and I would rally cheap cars around it. It would be a large gokart track with roller coaster like drops =D
The rickety sound is what scares the daylights out of you.

500 feet of coaster, wow! That is almost the length of 2 football fields. I would love to build something like this myself, but the lack of funds, time and knowledge have kept me from it. From the way I understand it there is a lot of physics involved in this and that was one of my worst subjects in school.
A big part of it is "what goes up, must come down"....and intertia and velocity.
Christopher Stumbo no offense but the avg. Football field length is 300 meters (yards). That's about 100 feet give or take. Still, thats half of one!
If only I could build this ride in the UK. That would be great...
