Long Alpine Coaster (Imst) - no brakes!

This Austrian Alpine Coaster was the World's longest (3.535km - approx 2.2 miles) when I rode it in 2005, and I rode this just a couple of hours before riding the very scary single pipe Sommerrodelbahn at Mieders - see • Mieders Alpine Coaster...
The published ride time is 9 minutes, but without using the brakes until the very end my "brakeman" Darren Hoy and I completed the ride in just 5 minutes (average speed 42.5kph, 26mph).

I could not come up with any more superlatives to describe what I've just seen in this video. This is a beautiful and breathtaking ride. This is better than any roller coaster I have ever experienced in any theme park in America!!
Many thanks for your kind words James :-)
Glad you enjoyed it - watch out for more alpine coasters (from USA) coming soon!
It looks like terrific fun, and the scenery just can't be beat.
I am SHOCKED that there were no slow riders in front of you. How did that happen??? Just lucky?? You would have had to slam on the brakes for sure by the speed you were going. GREAT footage and thanks for sharing!! Glad you were secure and did not fly out on those turns. WOW!!
That's because it was only open for members of our coaster club, before it opened for the day to the public :-)
As you might imagine, most of our club members didn't go slowly! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks for the reply and I understand better now. You have balls of steel for going that fast and you must have been strapped securely so you would not fly off the coaster at the high speeds you were going. I am 64 and used to enjoy many coasters when I was younger but now, I do not ride them much anymore since I have felt like I was going to fly off some of them and they were NOT the more daring ones! Anyhow, in a ski area where I live, a coaster is going to be installed and I may ride that but we will see. Cheers!
Good luck and I hope you get the chance to ride it :-)
I am now in my 50s, but still a big kid at heart!
@@DougCeleste i did it by stalling the ride operator into telling me how to put my seatbelt on and things like that so the people in front were further ahead
@@lachlanross1 Glad he spoke English. Is this open at night? I wonder if there have been any animals crossing the track when a coaster is near. My fear would be that I am going down the hill and braking and then someone is speeding behind me without braking and comes up to me really fast and is mad that I am going too slow. I saw a RUclips video like this and the aggressive rider behind the slower rider was trying to intimidate the slow rider to go much faster in which the slower rider did not like. With Covid and travel concerns, not sure when I will get to Europe anytime soon to ride a coaster like this. Cheers from New Mexico USA!
Wow, i want this on EVERY MOUNTAIN!!!
Don't we all !!
They need one of these in CA perfect weather could ride all year...
There's one in Jamaica :-)
was just thinking if they put one in yosemite, twud be epic!
***** Yeah i went on that one execpt its literally 30 seconds of ride time
Here's the video of the Jamaican one Mystic Mountain Jamaican Bobsled
this would be cool at night
I agree it would...although I am not sure that they operate it in the dark, I think it closes at dusk.
😊👍
TinaDustyRose Yh
you would be blind as fuck.....as there will be no lights😂
1:15 I laughed harder than i should have.
LOL - I hope that didn't lead to any nasty consequences!

My Imst Alpine Coaster video has just hit 1 Million views :-)
Would you ride it?
Yes I would love too where is this place
Imst in Austria
YES, of course I WOULD RIDE IT!!! No question.... numerous times! This is a beautifully designed piece of engineering!
Would love to ride this coaster. Know of any in the western part of U.S.?
This website lists some of them although it is a few years old now and newer ones have been built...they are a lot of fun www.aceonline.org/census/AlpineCoasters.htm
I could watch this all day. It's almost relaxing in a way.
Interestingly, I was listening to Enigma and came across this video at the same time. I put the video on mute, clicked on full screen mode and continued listening to the relaxing music. I swear I fell into an ethereal trance for 6 minutes. :)
I can see how Enigma would work nicely with the video to do that!
Pretty nice ride. Looks like fun. Long ride too Nice.
Best 6 mins of my life
Thanks :-)
ray low
Same,bro 😊👍
Would ride all day if I lived there
That would be fun!

Thanks - and yes, those extra features would be great!

🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
That was AWESOME!! I just tried a brand new alpine slide ride in Pigeon Forge Tennessee and although it wasn't this long, it was amazing!! So much fun. Just had to go on it again. It had the same track and cars. Thanks for sharing!! It brought back memories!
Cheers Mike - these rides are made by a company called Wiegend - I haven't ridden the one at Pigeon Forge (was built since my last visit) but they are a LOT of fun!
My favorite thing in the entire video is the rear passenger laughing like a lil adorable mallard duck.
LOL - I think we were going too quack!
@@davidjellis …it sounded like some of those bumps hurt y’all butt quacks (I’m so stupid).
@@ezziboo LOL - didn't hurt really, but was a surprise to bump along like that!
@@davidjellis I come back at least once a month to watch this. It’s simply delightful.
@@ezziboo Many thanks - and so pleased you enjoy it :-)
That is a nice Video. I just tried the sommerrodelbahn when I was a child. Imst in Austria - the native people there say "Imsht" :-) maybe like the Scottish talk. Sean Conery said: "And the Oshcar goesh to...." :-D
+Joe Blattner Now there's a picture...an Austrian Sean Connery!
This is so awesome & thanks for sharing @davidjellis
+mike brown Glad you enjoyed it :-)
This is such a cool coaster !! Hope to ride it some day !! Cool vids btw
I love this ride, and will drive from almost anywhere to stay at my favorite hotel and buy multipack rides. I take my grandkids here when ever possible and they ride till they can't take anymore.
+ali mia - It's in Imst in Austria!
Bloody hell that looks like fun!
It was...and the fun went on...and on...and on... :-)
I don’t want to over-think it but this for me is an example of truly living, where any thoughts of risk or fear are thrown out and the whole thing is experienced for the pure fun of it and without a care in the world! This is pretty much why I watch these vids; I love that message! Have fun guys!
Thanks John - that's my idea of fun!
I can only imagine what it took to construct this track and how long it took. OMG!!!! What marvelous work!!!!
the wagon of my dad actually fell of the rails bc it was damaged... that was scary
Holy Crap! Man does that look like fun! I think I would have to make a few trips down on that ride for sure! WOW!!!!
It was the longest of these in the world (now just the second longest) but wow, it was one superb experience!
Thanks for the ride! I enjoyed every minute of it.
Looks like fun, and a sick place to board!
Here's a nice photo I found online to show how the cars are taken up to the top of the mountain
4.bp.blogspot.com/-kx6R_cbPzl8/VCpi9CjVmZI/AAAAAAAAFNA/epyg5a6IitY/s1600/IMG_0123.JPG
***** Kinda like how the luge is taken up in Queenstown.
@04
i was on it. it ruled
Glad you enjoyed it - it does indeed rule :-)
I think you've just dictated where my next holiday is going to be. Superb!
I just can't stop watching this..offline and on. I've downloaded it. So funny to hear them having such a great time. What a ride.
The woman @ :27 lol
Hey is there like something what straps you in the car do you just hold on?
This is such a great video! Thanks for uploading! I subscribed and favorited :D
I love the view, I love the speed. great.
Theses videos are great, I find meself laughing almost as much as you are, especially when you go over small bumps :P
Glad you are enjoying them :-)
Love your video's, next best to actually doing the ride myself (which won't happen anytime soon if at all I am afraid) Thanks so much for recording and posting these rides
There's one in Germany (called "Rhoenbob" at the Wasserkuppe Funpark) but it's only about 3-5 minutes I think. Next to it is a summer toboggan run which is also a lot of fun
There are a few of them in Germany - we rode one there too...my first alpine coaster, the Sternrodtler Sternrodtler - Alpine Coaster (with no brakes)
That was great. Felt like I was on the ride with you. Thanks for posting.
I'm not ready for that ride yet. I'll stay with sedate, gentle, graceful soaring in hang glider.
+Jasmine Couchman - Yes it does have brakes, all coasters do, but I didn't use them until the very end
Looks FANTASTIC!!
I could imagine my wife screaming her head off all the way down the mountain on a ride like this. lol
Love your videos!!! Now I have to find a way to get to Austria!
That looks AWESOME!
It was an amazing experience to ride :-)
Thanks for a great video!! That looks awesome to ride!
every time i get in trance watching this. WOW
The guy scaring his ass off at the small hops while the woman is laughing is just a hilarious combo. (Yes, I know those hops are really scary at full speed)
Oh my goodness, your laugh is absolutely infectious! :)
I'm so down.
I *LOVE* this video! I've shown it to my students when we cover potential and kinetic energy, and it gets the kids talking :)
Oh hell yah !! 👍🏻👍🏻 great ride..greetings from Detroit.
Greetings from the UK
This was a lot of fun...our Coaster Club had the ride exclusively for us for 90 minutes before it opened to the public...very pretty scenery and a lot of fun on the ride!
That looks incredibly fun!
Ha, I love how they take the cars back up. Pretty much a ski lift for the cars. I was wondering what that wire was for on the front. Now I know! Great video. I can't wait to try it too.
Has this got any breaks at all? I really want to do this, but I am scared as crap! :( How are you secured to the car? Thank you! Great video! It made my day!
Yes, it has brakes, it's up to you how much you use them. The cars are quite supportive and you are secured by a seatbelt, so they feel very safe really. Glad you enjoyed the video :-)
Do you have to brake if you catch up with other carts or at the end? Or is it automatic?
amazing video! looks super fun! i want!!
Nice vid bro do more of these
I watched this and smiled the entire time! :D
Wow, that would be a blast to ride!
how do the cart go back to the top, we have a little tini winey version of this near me and you get on at the bottom and get pulled up, is it the same here?
This one is next on my list, I've ridden 5 around southern Germany. I giggle like a little school girl all the way down these things. Great video.
THAT IS VERY BAD ASS RIDE BRO!!!
how big was your backyard?
WOW! That was a long ride! I'd love to try it myself.
It was an amazing experience :-)
This is so chill and awesome, I started dozing off I got so relaxed. I want one!!
They also have an alpine luge coaster in Dalat, Vietnam as well. I have been there, love it! I plan to go back when I get the chance.
Where can you find this coaster and others?
It looks like the one in Turracherhohe. How much for lift tickets, and how much for the ride? Since you're all belted in, there's no place where you'd HAVE to use your brake? Some of the alpine slides are dangerous if you don't use the brake, but this is attached to the rails, right? Is it on rollers? Have you tried the toboggan run in Soll?
The prices etc can be found on their website www.imster-bergbahnen.at/en/summer/startseite/topics.html?lang=userconf
It is true that the cars run on the rails so brakeless runs are safe, although many riders DO brake as it can be a little intense around some of the curves. No I haven't been to Soll.
You are right...alpine slides are more dangerous as you can come off the tracks if taken too fast.
Amazing ride! I could almost feel the adrenaline :D
Wow that looks like so much fun!! I don't go on amusement park roller coasters but something like this I'd ride like 10 times in a row. Nice video.
It would be worth the trip overseas just ride this coaster. I can't ride anymore because of severe back and neck injuries. Thank you for the video!!! YOU MADE ME FEEL YOUNG AGAIN!! I WILL NEVER FORGET THE RIDE. THANKS FOR TAKING ME WITH YOU!!!!!
This looks awesome!!
WOW!!! Looks like so much fun. Would go to Austria just to ride that.
Now, this was fun, I caught myself 'leaning into' the curves, good thing my chair has armrests. lol. I was subscribed to your channel a few years back but they became (sorry to say this) ho-hum. These I've viewed lately have really been great, thank's for sharing, again.
Thanks Bobby - I post a variety of videos which will appeal to a mixed audience, but thanks for the feedback. I am adding new videos each weekend so check them out, and give a thumbs up if you like them :-)
Ah cool, This looks so much fun, would so want to ride one!
Now that was a cool link. I think you should have posted that before seeing that so many people love this video and want to ride it. I can't believe it is almost 2 miles long in 5 minutes...now that's fast. :-)
Very fast I loved it! I would love ride this and others someday!🙂🙂🙂🙂💯💯
That looks really relaxing
That looks fun. Wish i could try it.
Watch out for a higher resolution version of this footage coming on Boxing Day!!
Brilliant! looks like really good fun
looks fun, with all that scenery
Best Alpine coaster video ever! Perhaps do another one in 4K, please!
I uploaded this higher resolution version back in December - sadly it has fewer than 500 views

Looks like an awesome ride!! Checking out the Wisp Resort in Maryland, USA. Closes one in my area.
That was fun. I enjoyed listening to you guys laughing, too. =)
We had a lot of fun doing it :-)
the very first video I watched of your channel and this made be subscribe you. Awesome
Thanks :-)
Glad you enjoy the videos - it is always pleasing to read what people think about my channel, and what keeps them interested.
Is it possible for the car to fly off the tracks, or are there wheels on both upper/lower sides of the track
Just saw you on the news! congratulations!
Wow Amazing Fun To Watch I Bet Its Way Better Live A REAL THRILL Ride!
+M Walton They are always better in real life - but glad you enjoyed getting a flavour of it through the video
That looks awesome!!
That looks FUN!!!!
