- Check out www.coasterdad.com - Folks have been asking for help building their own coaster, which got me thinking it might be fun to do that. Stay tuned :)
Well, we finished the last bit of the track, completing the transformation from "shuttle" coaster to a full circuit! Now, the coaster can go to infinity! Next steps are stiffening up the track and building the mechanical lift segment.

When are the top rollercoster companies going to see all he has done and offer him a job.
steven paul dempster That's What I'm Talkin' Bout!
steven paul dempster Well the people who design coasters only hire the famous and best rollercoaster designer.... and i m sure you need to be atleast an engineer or physicist to work for such a company
steven paul dempster I know, little does he know that he going to get the big buck for these roller coasters.
He would have to securize the track (bending the curves, etc.) and the supports before even being considered by anyone to secure his "coaster building business"...
He’s going to be the ceo of rmc
hi. you were on korean news this morning. i shouted oh my god. lol. great dad.. good job.
This video doesn't deserve all the thumbs down it has- it's very cool to see the master at work.
All I want to see is a video of this roller coaster completed and ridden! This video title lead me to believe that's what we were going to see!! When is that video coming?!?!
Hi vincent cappello,
I know, right? That's what I want, too :) Summertime got us all excited and distracted with building Abraham's coaster, visiting theme parks and taking other adventures. At the moment, Lyle and I are making plans to re-track the Caution Zone (that's our backyard coaster). Thanks for watching! We'll try our hardest to get you what you want :)
Best,Will
Will Pemble I don't want you to think I was being mean about it or anything. I am just excited because I have been tracking the progress of this coaster, and I watched all of the videos to date, so when I saw Finished Track I was super excited cause I thought it was done and ready to go. It's definitely one of the better backyard coasters, so I am definitely excited to see it. I read my comment and in retrospect it looked a little harsh to me, so I wanted to clear that up. I understand summer time, family time and life all happen which would slow progress on a project like that. I am just excited to see it all done and ready to ride.
vincent cappello No worries! I'm super glad you're keeping up with the videos :)
Wow! Love your passion and creativity.
Your so cool my man. Super cool. I felt like a kid again watching this. Thanks.
Thanks, Ray!
It's important to feel like a kid as often as you can :)
Kids have great ideas, great creativity, and best of all - great fun!
Thanks for watching.
Kindly,
Will
It's important to remember that brother. Words to live by.
Fabulous job Will, your kids will remember this project forever
Build a backyard rollercoaster: when Playing Rollercoaster Tycoon just isn't quite that satisfying anymore
Amazing dad. U are almost a superman. U did it 99.99% yourself.
will I watch this a while ago and now I have a huge rollercoaster in my field and its so fun to ride in and it has loops and twists and all sorts and my birthday is coming up shortly so all the girls in my class are coming to my party!
Wow that's nuts.... Stumbled on your channel, I had no clue people were building roller coasters in their backyards.... Cool! Keep the tracks safe for the kids!
THanks, James Maddeaux Safety is the first rule. Be sure to check out the videos of my Front Yard Roller Coaster. That one's even better than the first :)
Best,
Will
LOOKS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!
Wow - Very cool. I love how your mind works. I miss working with you on a project. I can see you put the same enthusiasm and energy into your play time. I particularly love the part where the boys are sitting on the track waiting for Dad to finish. You are so Awesome.
Thank You, Kelley Smith!!
Working with you is equally if not more wonderful! By watching you run a meeting for 30 minutes, I learned more about communication and consensus than in the whole rest of my career! You are a rock star!
Love,
Will
THIS IS THE MOST COOLEST HOMEMADE COASTER EVER :)
Great job Will! Your videos have been a great example for our coaster project in Seattle. We don't have as much room as you do so we had to snake it around the garage.
Very nice Layout Will, This Roller Coaster is starting to look VERY nice, this inspires me to build my own Roller Coaster! :D I also like the song you put on the video! :)
We always wanted to do this as kids. Say 2002ish or whenever roller coaster tycoon came out.
Will Pemble , thts impressive, wish my ol man built me one wen I was a kid, lol
wow... Sowas liebe ich. Einfach mal was selber im Garten nachbauen...und es funktioniert ! cool..möchte ich auch haben..
Best. Dad. Ever.
Nice Job!
ow man you are a genius i love it
omg I ♥ rollercosters
How cool
Amazing job Will!
dude ur my hero! thats awesome
Wow your kids are so lucky
You don't start with kinetic energy, you start with potential energy. It will become kinetic energy once the cart starts moving
You're kids are the luckiest kids in the world.
Wow that's awesome!! Cool dad :D
Amazing! :O Good job man :)
This is AWESOME!!
Epic update I can not wait for a test run!
And keep up the epic videos :D
Thank You!
Please be sure to Like & Share! We want to keep these projects going and growing!
You should have a show on Discovery channel :D!
Agreed ^
All new "Backyard Coasters" coming up next.
Nice Makita Drill! :D
You should build a wooden coaster instead. Like a 40 ft monster.
I’ve always wanted to build a pure wood coaster! One idea I had once upon a time was to go to burning Man and build a completely wooden coaster there, then on the last day, we could actually set the thing on fire! Wouldn’t that be awesome :-)
This is amazing!
Will, you are awsome
Thanks Piano Freak732 !
:)
i was already planning on using 6x6x12 for the supports and 2x6s for the under struts under the tracks
Awesome I would love to build a coaster in my garden
looks so cool! im thinking about making one in my backyard, and was wondering how do you attach the pvc together so that the cart seamless goes around the course without any issues? thank you!
Yes I did, Matt. I used a 1.5" diameter dowel inside the pvc to join the lengths of track together. Also, search for Paul Gregg Roller Coaster. He's done some *amazing* work in his backyard :)
The United States Post Office approves this video.
I like the music.
You are so AWESOME
Amazing
Sooo good
thats cool!
I feel like building my own backyard rollercoaster should be my life ambition.
Would you be able to answer a few questions to give me an idea of how hard that would be, how much money I'd need, e.t.c? (Note that I'd probably do a basic shuttle coaster with one camelback hill, about 10m in length):
- How much PVC would be needed?
- How much wood would be needed and of what type?
- What tools would I need (e.g. to cut the wood if necessary)?
- What kind of place is best for getting the materials needed for a backyard coaster (especially wheels and seats)? Would online be a good option? (Bear in mind I live in the UK)
- How much experience with DIY do you need? (I'm only 16, so obviously I haven't built anything big yet, but I can't imagine I'd be that bad at joining together wood and PVC, although I would probably need educating on how to link the PVC tubing together seamlessly if it doesn't come in one piece)
- What would be the expected total price of a backyard coaster like the one I propose (you can give it in dollars, or translate it to pounds for me :P)?
- How hard is it to maintain, assuming the owner doesn't care hugely about how smooth it is?
Sorry if that's a bit of a tedious thing to ask, but I'd love to know as much as possible in case I ever do come around to making one - there's practically no clear tutorials out there.
Cool vid
Nice!
Seeing PVC breaks and bend's easily.. isn't it a tad sketchy?
was looking at the track build since I am planning on making my own.
How about a chain-driven garage door opener as a lift motor to power the car up the rise to the big drop. Extra chain and running track are off the shelf items.
That's a great idea! I'll be off to the hardware store this weekend to look at options. Thank you for watching, and for your suggestion.
Kindly,
Will
this summer im going to build me one yayyh
Cool rollecoster
If u go to dollywoood they have some roller caster's that are awesome there.
Hi will, please make more videos on this channel 👍🏻
awesome
Biology with Mr. Will
How did you connect the pvc pipes together?
Melt them together
At the bottom left at 0:11 you can see that he screws the 2 PVC pipes to one board
I thought it was cool how u could see the daylight passing
This video was uploaded a day before it was recorded...ILLUMANATI CONFIRMED!!!!!
😂😂😂😂😂😂👀👀
+Pototo HD www
YES Your right! ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED
Let's not get all worked up over non-linear time :)
I know this video is from 10 years ago but the coaster is really cool, its a dream to have a coaster in my backyard. Also do you still have the coaster?
Sadly, this one is gone. Here's the latest project - ruclips.net/video/BR3llKVe-CI/видео.html
Coooooooool
"see you on the other side" famous last words...
it would cost a bit however i would fill the pvc with cement
Hey will! Im building a coaster of my own and ive been having trouble making a cart. I was wondering if you could help me with that and make a design. The type of roller coaster is a pvc pipe one and its going to have many turns. How can i make a cart that can withstand turns? If you can help that would be awsome!
Nice
Cool
At 6:56 his shoes are odd lol
@Will Pemble your awesome at this how do you make all of these #mindblown
hey will .. happy holidays to you and your fam... was just wondering what you do for a living .. and do not get in detail because i dont want to be nosey but just wondering how you were blessed with such a big yard .. nice looking house .. god bless and I hope you continue to provide fun good time for the family ..
***** how long does it take to make a rollercoaster cause i dont like normal rollercoaster that much but self made looks like a lot of fun! :D
have you though about using concrete to fill the pipes to make them stiffer
I know it's your channel but can you please do a tutorial on how to make a homemade rollercoaster.
damn! these kids better respect you!!
Wow
Please ride the the rollar coastor next time
hey Will. love the job. i was thinking about building a bigger one for bigger people. do you think layering pvc pipes would add strength? i want to put a 1 inch inside a 1 1/2 in and put that inside a 2in pvs pipe
Cool video :-) Whats the name of the music? Its great, was tapping my foot.
Do you have any sort of blue prints for this project?? Had planned to do this this summer and now you really have me thinking! Thanks!
Nice update, but don't you think that the lifthill is too steep?
"Good morning Kids"
Check out the pvc roller coaster on a boat
good day! tell me please did you use plastic pipes or metal?
Must have Ben a long day
Wish to god to have a rollercoaster go to bed wake up in the morning look at ur back yard it's true a roller coaster god gives u luck it happened to me do it
Can't argue with that, joanne jade !
My coaster is the first thing I see when I look out the window in the morning, and I wouldn't have it any other way! Thanks for watching!
Best,
Will
+Will Pemble if you move tell me I'll buy that real fast
Please refer to my previous questions :)
I want to start this now that spring is closer. Need your advice! Thanks!
So how is the pvc on the wood like what is keeping it on?
this video was uploaded on 2/24/2014, but the security video has the time stamp at the bottom saying its 2/25/2014. Are you from the future????
Yes. Yes, I am. 😁
=awesome
Is this chap behind the 'Smiler'?
Will Pemble
Will!
Good afternoon to you.
Great project, my kids want me to build them one. After some tought and your guided videos game me hope. I have few questions, did you use 10' or 20' pvc pipes?
How did you made the bends?
Thanks!
Hope to hear from you soon!
Would recommend 10’ and there is a vid pu Paul Greg on how to make bends
How do you couple the pvc together?
Hi Elijah,
Here's the best way I've found to do it. ruclips.net/video/hvBcq1XoETA/видео.html
Best,
Will
Is using PVC risky? I live in the deser and heat can reach 115f. also do you have any videos on making the carts or do you sell them?
is it finished?! where is the whole vid of it finished? lol just wonderin...
What is the distance between each 4X4? Also, what is the total are you have used to do the whole thing (meaning if I was to draw a rectangle around it, what would that measure?)? Thanks!
And also the length of the 2X4 cross sections on the track. Basically, how wide is the track?
Good job man tho/-/-/though x
I'm hungry now
What size PVC did you use??
Hi Gerald,
1 1/2" Schedule 40 PVC is what's on my coaster. The one we're building at Abraham's house is 1 1/2" Schedule 80. The Schedule 80 has thicker walls, is supposed to be more resistant to UV degradation, and it looks really cool :)
Thanks for watching!
Kindly,
Will
