lol no it was supposed to be public, but I left youtube uploader alone for a couple hours and it deleted the description and tags and changed the title back to the file name.
this truck appears to be a refurbished unit (Heil Formula 5000) bed. This is the same exact sounds the trucks make with the Heil bed when I followed them as a kid on my bicycle. These hopper sounds bring back a lot of memories. The garbage men used to let me ride in the hopper with my bicycle when they were driving across town. This probably would get them all fired these days lol.
Always thought these Heil's were pretty cool, fast packing cycle. Now what's with the one dude over operating the packer and the guy in the hat letting it do it's thing? The one guy feathers the controls and plays with the packer while the hat guy just let's it open all the way and come down? Plus these big heavy carts and tippers seem to make the collection slower. Crews in my city do have tippers but mainly dump by hand and clear my street in no time.
This seems to be a thing with RL recycle crews, one will feather the controls, the other just lets them run uninterrupted. He feathers because on occasion recyclables spill back into the hopper if the blade is opened too fast, sometimes spilling onto the street. Some packers are worse with this than others. The carts are heavy because California has container deposit, so bottles and cans that lighten up the recycling are usually returned by residents or scavengers.
I thought the steady whirring sound at idle was loud enough, then I got a listen to the revs during packing!!! The engine lets rip and screams like there's no tomorrow :O Found it interesting that both tippers were controlled via the single lever too, usually they're operated individually right? Noticed they didn't lift/lower in sync either, they were way out of time at some points, also looked pretty stupid when one was doing a ghost operation without a bin haha Cool how they "adjusted" the angle of the sweep blade as the packer slid down, almost so they don't overuse the cycle =] Whenever I think of NASA a spaceship always comes to mind lol
MitchellM15 Yeah usually the tippers have separate controls but a single control works well with a route like this. With the Formula 5000's almost vertical packer stroke and a load of dry recyclables, half cycling the sweep blade cuts down on hopper fallback and spillage onto the street.
Great job George. It's always nice to see a Heil rear loader in action.
Thanks. And yes, will be posted a bit later on though

This was filmed on July 24, my birthday :D Nice video by the way.
Great job! Very professional!
Awsome truck and sorry if I’m a million years late wasn’t signed in to RUclips
Yeah he is. I think the truck was somewhere between 1/2 to 3/4 full while I was filming.

You mean Nassau in the Bahamas right?

The tipper on the right seems to be severely slow.
