I was shot at as a bus driver in California. They not only shot at me, but also the passengers on the bus. No one was actually injured in the shooting, but that was the last day I drove a public bus. The incident was swept under the rug by the company, the police department, and the county funding the service. There are so many shootings that I believe most people would avoid riding the bus if they knew. No real investigation took place. It never made it in the paper let alone television news. They simply laid me off because I refused to get behind the wheel. The best thing a driver can do is 1) try to avoid confrontation, and 2) be prepared to shoot back.

I drove a bus for 38 years. Your story doesn’t surprise me at all. While I didn’t personally go through a shooting, a shooter came on the bus that I had been driving after I was relieved for the day. 5 victims, one was a fatality. I quit at 60 when I was planning to drive for a few more years. It’s too dangerous anymore.

I'm a motorcoach driver and in CA back in the day the highway patrol used to pass out list of streets (in L.A.) that all coach (bus) drivers were to not go down that week. I drove transit for a short time in Glendale, CA and there were scary people there as well! And that was a fairly decent neighborhood!

Ike, I'm a retired police officer, trucking and bus driving are second careers and only part-time these days. A homicide regardless of who the victim may be or their occupation will never get overlooked. The only time a civilian will ever hear all the details is when the person charged with the crime goes on trial. This crime will not be solved in a week unless somebody gets lucky. But it will get solved. The ID by footprints is a typo or erroneous information. Crime scenes involve details most people never see. A positive ID using a victim's fingerprints is common. The picture on the CDL may have been old and he might not have had his wallet in his pocket. It could have been in his tractor. And he was not a local person anyone knew. Checking fingerprints in the system is much faster today, but it still takes more time than it does on a TV show. I want to see the shooter in this incident caught and convicted. This was a senseless crime that should not have happened.

1st of all, trucking and bus drivers are due more respect than "oh" it's just a 2nd career or part time maybe fir some, but the vast majority of us are in it to win it,and serve a societal need, didn't you learn anything during covid when it was a challenge just for people to be able to wipe their butts,lol...all joking aside,I believe with all of my heart, had this happened to someone that supposedly "matters" in our society that this probably would have been wrapped up by now, you're really trying to tell us that with all of these cameras and plate readers all over the place you can shoot someone and pull off in a vehicle and not be tracked, but I do understand law enforcement may actually be on to the person but don't want them to know, so you don't share with the public at this time, they are probably hiding because they know what they did,if I were them I probably wouldn't have had a good night's sleep since.expecting to be arrested at any given time, not to mention taking someone's life in a situation like that.

The shooter is probably a local with connections. So you know that the Leo's are going to drag their feet on the investigation. This just pisses me off that a man out there doing his job, was shot and killed for no reason other then a stupid argument. Be with God drver, and I hope and pray that your family will pull through this despicable situation. The loss of any family member is a terrible thing to have to go through. R.I.P.

Retired chief of police here. Most people don't know but feet prints are very similar to fingerprints. They don't change as you age. Most hospitals take feet print impressions of new born babies as soon as they are born. New born babies don't develop fingerprints until sometime after they are born. I don't recall how long. Also on a true birth certificate before it goes to the county or state, your foot prints are on the back of the form. I would assume that may be the only other form of identification if his wallet was missing.

Why footprint and not fingerprint, I can only speculate but there's a number of reasons why they wouldn't use the license for positive ID. The most likely reason, visual identification may not have been possible due to injuries sustained. Unlikely though possible, he could've been driving illegally with a license that wasn't his. I've seen a number of times where someone will drive using a family members license who looks similar enough to pass at a glance but doesn't stand up to the scrutiny of a homicide investigation.

they will not release much if any information while the investigation is ongoing, what truck does not have a dash cam these days, I am sure or hope that they know more than they are letting on.

From what I hear there are a lot of foreigners who don't have a cdl yet they are driving trucks. They don't have to have a cdl in their country so they think they don't need one in our country.

People are altering their license plates these days. Mostly to avoid tolls but changing it makes a dash video worthless.

I grew up in Yuba City, Sacramento and Elk Grove. Very large Sikh communities and some of the kindest people around and make excellent neighbors. My neighbor drove an ice cream truck and at the end of his day, he'd come home and show me what he had left. He always refused to accept $ from me because his and our kids all played together. I'd always pay him double. As much funny cracks as we all make about everyone, I've never heard a Sikh say an unkind word to another person. Heart felt condolences to this drivers family and we surely hope the assailant is caught. So sorry for this 😢

The license plate readers on the interstate around this area may not work. Once the driver made it across the stateline, there were all kinds of ways they could have gone. All those East Texas backroads enable someone to slip away unnoticed. You know that Ike. Every sand hauler in this part of the country can show you how to avoid getting caught being overweight or over axle or out of time.
