Still think the name of this channel is so fitting for the content, its like the viewer is getting a ride along the live of Sams automotive journey and that makes that people are not mad about him selling that stunning RS6 because they understand you need the money for the Jaguar and GT3. Same with the 360 its so long on the channel and still makes stunning content because he loves the car. That pure passion makes good content. Allthougth the movie style filming helps as well.
As I get older I find myself more and more enticed by Porsche, particularly the 992 GT3 so I can't wait to see how you get on with it mate. Manual all the way.
To be honest Sam, you deserve it!!! Your channel is leading on the entertainment scale compared with competitors!!! I’m getting fatigue of the daily content from other You Tubers - way too much! You have the perfect balance and I get excited to view a new video from you!!!
One thing I love about my Manual 992 GT3 is the motorsports-like whip-crack sounds I can make the car do when it's warm and I'm flat-shifting. The flat-shift means this car has 3 gearboxes: Regular manual where you have to rev-match. Sporty manual where you don't have to rev-match. Practically PDK where you can flat-shift, up or down.
Sam I have previously had 911 manual whilst living in London and did not enjoy the constant gear changes, and it does not like 1st/2nd gear. However currently drive a Carrera GTS PDK and with the high revving engine I honestly wouldn't want to have it in manual, it is really nice just to let it run and manage itself. If I am on one of those windy hill roads I click down and run it in manual for a while and enjoy the paddles.
Very good question. I actually love the PDK - it’s more engaging than so many people say. BUT - there’s something about the driving experience of a manual that adds a level of engagement that is next level. Great vid Sam.
If you want the best lap time available go for the PDK, if you want to feel connected to the car 100% of the time go for the manual. Personally, for B road driving and touring I'd have to go for a manual... But realistically it's not a decision I'm ever likely to be puzzling over anyway...
So aptly said. Bob on. Driving pleasure manual. Even at 45 I’m going 51/49 auto as ‘tired legs’ cycling maybe double clutch Auto it is. Age not a great thing
PDK Gang all day. its so perfect. Have had loads of manual cars and they are great to ring out performance from lesser powered cars but my PDK in my Turbo S is perfection. Can blip down shifts whenever.. Never once wanted an upshift that wasnt there.
Your enthusiasm is infectious. I have a 991.1 C4S and the PDK, even in that generation, is very intuitive. However I drove a manual Cayman 4.0 GTS a month or so ago - the manual gearbox was sublime. Can’t wait to follow your adventures in the GT3. Keep up the great work.
Had a similar thought last year when I got mine. For a few mins there I also thought maybe I should get a PDK, but I’m so happy I got the manual. It feels like it’s a diff car, like I do more for it to drive the way it does.
Manual is a dying transmission I am glad you choose this. Pdk is a great transmission. Anything above 600 hrsps needs a automatic but you are not hitting the track anyday manual is the way to go👍
No way. Driven plenty of over 600hp cars and all of them were manual. Always my preference. And why an arbitrarily horsepower number? What about power to weight? Either way, outdo of competitive auto racing where every fraction of a second counts, 3 pedals are just more fun. On and off the track.
@@jamesgarvey8402 power to weight is a good figure and bit more accurate tbh. I don't trust my driving just yet to drive a manual as fast as automatic. May be you have spent more time in the track i currently don't have the time
Sam, the difference in ride is because the winged car is on Michelin Cup 2 tires but that touring is on Pirelli P-Zero. If your winged car comes on the softer Pirellis, you will notice the same ride improvement! There is no way to choose, the factory just specs them randomly (along with the Goodyears)
I owned a 991.1 GT3 PDK and until recently a 991.2 GT3 Touring - both fantastic cars and while no doubt on paper the PDK will be faster, the manual (which I put 12,880km on) was a lot more engaging and fun to drive. You have definitely made the right choice! Congratulations!
I never get this manual thing, don't have a clue what people mean, it's the exact opposite for me. I feel way more "one with the car" when I'm driving an automatic, because I don't have to think about gear changes. I have a thought of what I want to do and then just... do it, it's like the car is part of my body. When I walk or run I don't have to think about that either. But when I have to change gears manually there's always that split-second in which you make your choice for a gear... and at that point the car's no longer part of me, it's just a machine that I control.
@@barbarusbloodshed6347 Personally I feel an auto / dual clutch is something that feels like it drives itself. Your ability to change gears quickly, downshift etc will determine how fast you can speed up in a manual. Overall though I just feel like driving fast with a manual and having to actually drive well, get the smooth but fast downshifts, upshifts etc adds so much more fun to driving a car hard.

Manual with 18-Ways is the way to go IF you have intentions are getting an RS someday and this will be primarily a road car... If this will be a heavily tracked car, I would suggest the PDK and Buckets... and if very heavily tracked, steel brakes... Very situationally dependent choice.
I eagerly await the first livestream of Sam stuck in slow moving traffic in the GT3. Having owned a manual Porsche Cayman S for 12 years and driven many British B roads, I rarely got out of 2nd gear when having fun so may as well have had a PDK. Changing up and down just for the sake of it was never my preference. 2nd performed absolutely fine and was well capable of going fast enough without a strain. The only times I wished for a PDK was stop/start traffic with the heavy Porsche clutch. At my age the jittery left leg came on quite often making smooth driving next to impossible! Really glad I live well away from big cities and regular conjestion.........not so for Sam.
Wonderful video, Sam! Great to hear you chose to stick with what suits you and what makes you happy. I've lived with my PDK 991 GT3 for 40,000 miles of daily use, but now have a manual 992 touring on order set for October delivery. Manual just heightens the experience that much more, especially if you're doing mostly road miles! Congrats and cannot wait to see your car!
Yes Sam! Your reaction to the manual shows you stayed true to yourself and that's what this channel is about. A manual GT3, what a car! So excited for this.
A good manual gearbox is always a thrill to drive. I haven’t had the opportunity to drive a 991 or 992 GT3 with such a box, but I currently use a 992 4GTS with PDK. Except on highways or in trafic jams, I love the manuel mode which allows a fair amount of involvment because you drive the car - not the other way round. Great watching your videos. Your enthusiasm is truly communicative !
Something which i wasn’t aware of before I bought my first Porsche, was just how much of a community there is around these car. I’ve been a member of Porsche club Denmark since day 1 and we go on all sorts of rallies, trackdays etc. it’s a huge part of why I won’t be switching brands. I’ve met so many genuine enthusiasts and I get to nerd out to the nth degree :D
Great to hear that you are buying the car you want and not what someone else wants you to have. The enthusiasm is infectious, it was clearly missing from your videos with the RS6 and came as no surprise when you chopped it.
Like you, I had a 'phone call from my local OPC offering me a GT3 but a Touring. Happy days, andI've specced pdk with ceramics brakes. Perfect for the road, I think. I've now had several pdk's and they are so versatile, relaxed when pootling around town, easy to drive in flowing traffic and motorway cruising, involving when in manual 'flappy paddle' mode and 'making progress' and the fastest way round a track by far. I spent a session at Silverstone with Richard Attwood, Le Mans legend, and he was of the opinion that there is no better way to set a lap time than with the pdk in track mode and leave the gearbox to make the decisions. And he should know...
Great video :) you definately made the right choice for a road biased car! It’s really interesting how differently you drive in the manual car… more relaxed and flowing.
Love the silver wheels on the Touring and hoping the trend for black will fizzle out. Oh yes and I'm with Sam on running with a manual transmission which, for road use, brings so much more involvement.
After all those years of following you (since the 4C)… I still can‘t understand why these videos do not have 500.000+ views. A genuine petrolhead ambracing the the automotive culture with top tier videography - I mean how much better can it get? Love your videos, Sam! I can really connect with the pure enjoyment when being around a nice car 😁
Hello! Norman from Vancouver with the pre GT3 Vw beetle. Haha. Congrats on your GT3 and on your choice of manual! I’m so excited for ya. Can’t wait to see the rest of the specs. Cheers mate!
you have plenty of time to drive automatic cars still and for that reason i think you made the right choice and certainly when it comes time to sell ,manuals will have a premium for sure
Sam getting the manual, actively guarding the automotive 'gated community' and I applaud your choice! The epic howl of the engine with the Touring on shift is pure passion 👍 Recently saw a 'rear wing delete' video on the GT3, green car form Canada, looks brilliant. Hope you ordered a new roof box with the car for the next legs of Drive The World 😎 Thank you, great fun!
Both my Porsche's have been winter collections !! Picked one up xmas eve !! Was amazing, But my latest purchase I have postponed until April / May, as winter plays Havoc with the under side of the car, engine, etc..etc... Road salt and general winer conditions...
I pick up my manual Touring in September. Also agonised endlessly over the gearbox but a few hours in the manual Touring at the PEC told me exactly what I needed to know. P.S. Pistonheads reviewer reckoned the same car with Pirelli P0 Corsa tyres was a much more pliant car to drive than when fitted with Cup Sport 2s.
Every choice is respectable and both are the best in the market. But, personally, if I want to enjoy a manual it is enough with a Mazda. With this type of car I always prefer to have my hands on the steering wheel.
I'm hardcore manual, for fun cars. ..but even i was very much in doubt as to what i'd choose, if i were lucky enough to be able to buy this car. The arguments for the PKD are solid, and logically it makes way more sense than the manual imho. ..but i'm SO happy you went the manual route. Will be a lot easier to be excited about your car, for me at least :)
I think you should go pdk because like you said recently you will probably hold onto this car for a while and so having a manual gt3 is good but the pdk is good for long distance cruising/road trips and it’s one of if not the best dual clutch gearboxes around! 👍
appreciate your videos, buying my first 991, was struggling with the idea of PDK. You nailed it, finding a manual will be more difficult but worth the search. Cheers!
Even holds his nose when he sneezes instead of sneezing all over the car, what a classy gentleman. Well done, Sam, another congratulations to you on your allocation all the best! -Tim G 🇺🇸
Great video same. If it were me I’d go for a manual as I don’t do any track driving and think we should buy manuals while we still can. If a manual is available I’m always going to go for. I have nothing against Autos just prefer manuals.
If there is one person I'm glad has an allocation, it's you Sam. Couldn't be more pleased for you. Totally agree on the Manual box too. One thing I never understand when talking about the PDK is the track day argument. For a race car, I agree a paddle box is better, because it IS quicker. BUT, track days for me are about fun, not times. Go and drive as quickly as you can, but enjoy the process/challenge of a manual box while doing this. Does the speed actually matter that much? I'm not saying people are wrong to buy the PDK, this is merely my take on the subject.
The 'smile for miles' says it all. You've been leaning towards a manual since you announced you'd be getting a GT3. Now you have answered your own question. Also I think you have a daily in the Jag F Type, so No need for a PDK option. Personally I prefer the GT3 Touring with the PDK, but what you mentioned about Spring rates etc makes sense.
Same here, had a manual 981 GT4 and a 991.2 GTS PDK 4 years ago and I always grabbed the GT4 keys first, since this days all the Porsches are manual for me (718 Spyder + 992 GT3 manuals nowadays)
Occasional to frequent track use: PDK. Daily/spirited driving, mountain or canyon runs, grand touring/long trips: manual. Excellent choice, Sam! It will absolutely hold value better than the PDK as well!
Love your videos Sam. 992 911 GT3 an awesome car and you picked the right gearbox. A manual is also more exclusive than a PDK so that to think about too
I have had them both and for me I prefer the PDK. I love manuals but the PDK is so fast and engaging when using the paddles and if you don’t want to click paddles just put it in drive.
This is great news!!! And don't forget the no-lift shifts that GT3s have as well as the auto-blip (not to everyone's taste), which can take the car on another level! Genuinely happy and excited for you Sam
Very excited to see this journey unfold and as usual your content is just right, not too long and dragged out (Shmee). To be fortunate enough to get a new GT3 I hope you keep it as long as the 360.
I'm with you in that I liked to be engaged with a manual vs automatic. You nailed it when you said with the automatic, you felt like you were just along for the ride. I feel that way with 99% of the cars today. I think the worst thing I've learned in the last year having gone to a new car is throttle lag. Terrible and in my own opinion a real safety concern. I miss the days when the gas pedal was directly connected to the engines throttle plate by a cable instead of drive-by-wire. Looking forward to hearing more. Again, congrats on the upcoming GT3! 🌈
Your car, your choice Sam! Glad you went with your heart and made your own decision on this. Following the crowd does not make great RUclips content and that's why I love this channel as you always stay true to yourself and then spend 10 minutes of self reflection pondering why you did what you did!
The right decision for sure Sam, , automatic cars are boring anyway you compare them to manuals in general, drivers always pick manuals.....save the manuals
I had to make the same decision on a BMW Motorsport in 1996. After driving two or three auto’s the moment I pulled away on a test drive with a manual, the argument was over - manual all the way. I’ve been a manual biased driver for many years I’ve only recently changed to preferring automatic gearboxes because my knees can’t take the gear changing in traffic anymore especially in London at my age now. So we’ll done Sam you e absolutely made the right choice to get a manual GT3 - what were you thinking 😊
I ve ordered my gt3 touring with pdk reason being felt the clutch too heavy on my 718 spyder and intend to use the gt3 as a daily commute but like you I had to make a blind choice not too concerned as really happy to have an order which is due very soon
Sam, what roads are those? Im from Reading and find most of the roads terrible! EDIT: Its around the East Illsley to Catmore area if anyone's interested.
I have the 2020 Carrera 4 and it's an amazing daily driver. It has roughly 30k kilometers on it and it has convinced me to always have a Porsche around! Looking forward to the day I'll be able to join that GT3 gang. Congrats on the purchase, and enjoy the cars mate!
The touring feels slightly softer as it has different tyres, that have a different sidewall to those fitted to the standard GT3. I’m sure that is what you are feeling.
Gonna make a call to the dealer. My order was estimated also Q1 2023... Love the result because I had to make the same choice and also went for manual on a winged one. Also PTS :D
I’m a big fan of buying the winged car and getting the wing delete kit so you can have the best of both worlds. If it comes with a manual you buy it with a manual. Also comfort seats.
Well done Sam. The video was a great analysis with a balanced view. I suspect you made the right choice and a critically important one. I have watched several people purchase a GT3 with great fan fare, only to dump it pretty quickly. Often with the comment that it is so perfect it is unengaging on public roads. No question a track weapon of choice. I think the stick shift combined with perfect road manners and 500hp would make this an engaging experience at any speed. And you can keep it in the upper rev range when you please, or lug around town. The PDK is great for track use, or for someone happy to drive the GT3 like an expensive daily driver to drive to and from their corner office like they are wearing a nice suit.
I’ve always had manual cars but last month I bought a 2015 BMW 335d auto and I love it, especially when it comes to stopping and starting all the time in traffic. I’ll never be lucky enough to afford a Porsche like that, but if I was I’d really be on the fence as to what I’d go for now.
Sam, I have seen somewhere that you can purchase a rear wing delete kit from Porsche for the GT3. So perhaps you can get the look of a touring in your GT3 Wing version after all.
Having driven a few duel clutch gearboxed car including a Porsche I agree with you that the manual gearbox in any car gives you a connection with it that even the best of them can’t quite make, if I could have a GT3 it would be a manual.
I’ve blissfully enjoyed my 997.2 gt3 for almost 30,000 miles since I got in 2019. I agree the manual gear box is the way to go in any 911. Congrats on the gt3 allocation! Woohooo :)
PDK especially for track use. PDK never ceases to amazes me (engine and gearbox management is soooo spot on). Edit: that being said, Sam you seem to be enjoying both so much that it doesn't really matter, you won't regret any choice you make!
Fantastic video. Loved all the B-roll. The PDK is just better for the daily-ability especially since you live in town. The power is too high for manual and the 360 can do the manual on special occasions roll. Looking forward to your car video series with your GT3.
good choice, A bit surprised you didn't go touring. I bet now you have a manual you will keep it longer than if you got the boggo-standard PDK. I think it will hold value better over time too. I hope you made the most of a PTS slot too.
I’m not a RUclipsr so haven’t driven the GT3 back to back but I have driven the 992 GTS manual and PDK back to back on road and track. The PDK is so much faster, it’s just meant for the car. If you want a manual, get an old 911, I’ve got one and a TVR and couldn’t imagine them without a manual box. The manual experience matches the experience of the car.
If resell is a key point: three pedal gt3’s nab a premium. However, sheer driving performance: PDK….the factory cup cars all use the PDK for what it’s worth.
i honestly could watch you talk about/drive Porsches all day long. Love these cars. Also YES Manual is the way to go

9:38 “I need cars to touch my soul in a perverted way” I felt that to my core. Very well done my friend
Sam getting the manual, actively guarding the automotive 'gated community' and I applaud your choice! The epic howl of the engine with the Touring on shift is pure passion 👍
Recently saw a 'rear wing delete' video on the GT3, green car form Canada, looks brilliant. Hope you ordered a new roof box with the car for the next legs of Drive The World 😎
Thank you, great fun!
Maybe the difference in comfort comes down to different tires or even tire pressures?
Both my Porsche's have been winter collections !! Picked one up xmas eve !! Was amazing, But my latest purchase I have postponed until April / May, as winter plays Havoc with the under side of the car, engine, etc..etc... Road salt and general winer conditions...
I daily drive a manual and still prefer manual in certain cars. But I would go PDK on Porsche products, just my own opinion.
I’m not a spoiler fan so I’d be going the touring. Well done Sam. A new car is always fun.
Had the same issue with my carrera s… Selected a manual, but I think about my configuration every day. One of the hardest things I’ve done lol
Even if this video didnt had sound , i could feel every bit of it. The love and the connection with a manual...
Every choice is respectable and both are the best in the market. But, personally, if I want to enjoy a manual it is enough with a Mazda. With this type of car I always prefer to have my hands on the steering wheel.
Great choice, Sam!
Team manual here. My touring is finally arriving next week. Took em long enough. I ordered it last September!
Congratulations Sam, any new GT3 coming is something to celebrate
Spot on Sam. My last 991.2 GTS was a pdk thought I would see what it was like - lasted less than 12 months . All my other Porsches were manual.
Same here, had a manual 981 GT4 and a 991.2 GTS PDK 4 years ago and I always grabbed the GT4 keys first, since this days all the Porsches are manual for me (718 Spyder + 992 GT3 manuals nowadays)
100% the right decision, the face says it all! I hope you will enjoy the car :)
Occasional to frequent track use: PDK. Daily/spirited driving, mountain or canyon runs, grand touring/long trips: manual. Excellent choice, Sam! It will absolutely hold value better than the PDK as well!
Good to see you ordered the manual Sam. If we don't buy them they won't exist much longer.
remember that fun as pdk is you will get bored from it in a month or two. manual will always give that extra challenge to get it right
I saw the new GT3 yesterday in Gulf Blue. It was a manual Man what a good looking car and the stock exhaust note sounds amazing
For you, I'd get PDK, because you already have the 360 for spirited manual driving. Either way, though, you'll love it.
The right choice!
Also PTS :D
I think you have made the right decision Sam. I have had two manual and one PDK on my Boxsters and good as PDK is it is not as engaging.
Seeing you have zur Ferrari as an engaging manual car and the PDK in this car is so so good - PDK in Porsche all day !
Having driven a few duel clutch gearboxed car including a Porsche I agree with you that the manual gearbox in any car gives you a connection with it that even the best of them can’t quite make, if I could have a GT3 it would be a manual.
Feel u. The pdf and the manual are great both. I would love to try manual GT3 some day.
Really hope you go for the PTS. Going for a retro Porsche color would be the business.
Fantastic video. Loved all the B-roll. The PDK is just better for the daily-ability especially since you live in town. The power is too high for manual and the 360 can do the manual on special occasions roll.
Looking forward to your car video series with your GT3.
Sam, I have a Cayman 718 GTS 4.0 on order with build date of Nov this year. I have gone manual, for all the same reasons as you
Would you consider doing a wing delete on the GT3 when it arrives?
PDK's are far superior in every way. PDK!
It's not about superiority alone, it's about fun too.
And for fun, nothing, absolutely nothing beats a manual
good choice, A bit surprised you didn't go touring.
You can always put the DUCKTAIL on it, just like James did on his!! SO HAPPY for you, for this journey of your 1st GT Porsche! and fan of manual too
If resell is a key point: three pedal gt3’s nab a premium. However, sheer driving performance: PDK….the factory cup cars all use the PDK for what it’s worth.
For me, the opinion changes depending on which one I'm driving. I love both.
