    That’s a shame Adam you know in recent years the coating they use on wireing is a vegetable based product and Rodents love that stuff I’m just wild speculating here

    My vote is critter damage for sure. Dude probably chewed the insulation off and a short to ground heated up over time. I believe a battery box should only be used for battery cables and batteries. Absolutely hate seeing general automotive wires littering that compartment and try to make my own junction box with proper breakers or fuses. Whenever I look at 14ga wire, I know it takes only a few minutes for it to burn a vehicle to the ground if tomfoolery arises.
    For safety I recommend you bolt cutter the cables and free the damage carefully, before you pull the truck inside. Some of those battery cases could be weakened by the burn and fall apart so I caution trying to unbolt the cables. Baking soda and water will neutralize the battery acid too. Not a fun project, DIY, but very rewarding when you put it back correctly. Good luck!

    Dont eat while working on your equipment. Whatever you touch mice will chew for the flavor.
