Emperor: We shouldn't go this way, the absolute army is marching to baldur's gate, we need to hurry!
"tries again"
Emperor: I will not be able to protect you if you do this, we must follow through to baldur's gate fast!
"player tries again"
DM: dude, if you do that your character will die and the campaign is over, do you really want to do that?
"fourth time is the charm"
DM:yeah fuck you, you die, the world ends, rocks fall everyone dies.
Smart Tav: "Don't worry about it, Empypoo. We have fast travel. We can get back in a matter of minutes."
"But I just realized I missed a chest at the Githyanki Creche I want to nab, we'll use the rune portal system duck out, grab it and be right back in five minutes. Won't even need to leave the mountain passes."
Meanwhile… I just needed more levels for the royal guard who instant kills me.
Reminds me of the secret ending of Custom robo 2 on gamecube, except you have to pick the “go on your own” option 50 times as your party/friends/family stand in the living room with dramatic realistic lines to funny and outright 4th wall breaking with “ hey guy it’s a game, pick the story option or it’s gg”
Lmfao the amount of campaigns I've ended like that
Yeah, I don't think the Absolute finds you. I think the Emperor just gets mad that you aren't following his orders and let's go of your protection.
Sounds right. He's a dick that way. To him, you're not a person, just a tool.
I don't think so, because that would be suicide. The moment the Absolute gets a hold of you, it's gonna make you turn the Prism over, and I have to assume that the Emperor would rather be alive in the wrong place than dead or enthralled.
No. The Emperor literally says what happens.
@@ProjectThunderclaw(spoilers for the ending, do not read if you haven't played through!)
The Emperor literally betrays you and fights for the Elder Brain if you don't let him eat Orpheus so .... Apparently it tracks.
(Not that I think that particular decision makes sense either tbh)
@@ProjectThunderclaw I mean... you didn't travel anywhere, the absolute just tranforms you on the spot... so yeah, he dropped his protection.
An Army of True Souls marches on to the city….hang on, I gotta look for missing clown parts and mummy organs
Also dear gods is this clown is heavy...

How are we even able to tell it’s Dribbles’ body anyways? I never understood that
@@GabbyPlaysGames02 the clothing! at least i assume so
@@sugaarrii but all we get are body parts. Like the torso I understand but how do we know it's his hand? Video game magic I suppose
The emperor is so spiteful, whenever things don't go his way he just gives up
“i’m just go back to the netherbrain because you freed the gith fuck you bye” ????
Why would he protect you if you're literally going in the opposite direction of the thing he wants to stop? Is he obligated to protect you forever while you go on holiday?
@@agentz4695 why did he kill himself for even suggesting freeing Orpheus after all he's done to be free from the netherbrain
@@spectralspectra2282 I assume you're referring to when he joins the Netherbrain? It's a decision he made out of self preservation. He believed that without assimilating Oprheus they had no chance of defeating the brain and he didn't want to die. He was wrong but that was clearly his reasoning. It wasn't a "Well fuck you then" decision.
EDIT: Also this is a completely different topic from what I said.
the emperor must die anyway, because he is acting like the absolute. He control actions of his puppets (heroes) and betray them and join with absolute when heroes goes their own way (in act 3).
This exact thing also happens if you kill the emperor when he's first revealed.
yeah I tried that.. I went all "a mind flayer??? die!!!" and then I also died kek
And if you don't make It to the portal in time to save the emperor in the beginning of act 3
This is the same cutscene that happens if you don't kill the netherbrain fast enough in the final battle.
(How do I know? Forgive me, I was NOT ready for what happened in that arena (I won't say cos spoilers) and only Gale survived! So I didn't do it in time. I felt so stupid.)
It's just a generic bad end cutscene, there are a lot of triggers for it.
@@enigmaticspirit08i did that entire fight with just my tav because i thought my entire party would go through the portal with me, but nope, just my tav, so the rest of my party and orpheus hid under a globe of invulnerability until i was done.
I freaking love BG3. Other games would just say the first line and forbid you from going back to the mountain pass - the fact that u can do this is so cool
I think u can also yeet the netherstone into chasms or sth and trigger a similar scene where games wud normally just hit u with " This item cant be dropped"
What’s particularly awesome is that this is also a whole cutscene. Like it is technically an ending to the game, not a happy one and the credits don’t roll but if this is how you really wanted to end it you could lol
Would you still turn if you wore the ring of shielding?
Nah, it's dumb. No reason you shouldn't be able to go back to earlier areas when instant waypoint travel exists. Lost some cool items for builds I wanted to try because4 of this dumb 'feature.'
@@Draelos game's common sense, do everything you want to do BEFORE doing the final area boss (And Ketheric was obviously a final area boss)

but he pinky promises he never lied to you, so you can trust me. I mean him. you can trust him. *runs away on tentacles*
@@onbored9627 the emperor lied about major thing, he act like the absolute, he gain his puppets (heroes) and manipulate them like the absolute manipulating her army. He wants to be absolute with his own reasons, it' isn't for freedom for everyone, it's for freedom only himself.
@@onbored9627 well, he IS the one who infected you, you can totally trust him yes yes
Why isn't that reasonable? Your deliberately being obstinate against the only one keeping you alive. I'd fuck off to.
Ah, just classic D&D things.
Party: _goes the wrong direction_
DM: You all die. Make new characters.
It’s a bit strange coz if u try to enter in to Upper town in act 3 without all stones (just cross the bridge) Emperor just teleport ur party at the beginning of the bridge after same kind of scolding.
Exactly. Like one moment I'm too close to the brain the next I'm not close enough. Make up your damn mind, Emperor!
Part of that may be that they didn't finish the upper city content in time, but had intended (still intend?) to flesh it out.
@@InigoPhentoya well according to that fact that in act 3 there r so many notes and letters about wonder shop in upper town and Gortash's delivery orders from this store... u r maybe right.
I mistystepped there and there is a surprising amount of dialogue there with the guards saying I can pass lol.
"I thought you trusted me... I was wrong. And it will cost us everything." Then you find out who your Dream Visitor really is and it breaks any and all trust it ever had with you.
Haven't completed the game yet but I honestly don't have a problem with who they are yet, aside from the whole "why should I help you get rid of the tadpole, you'd be better as a mind flayer" thing
@@Fuer64 Idk man... As soon as you find out it's true nature, it says " I never lied to you" but he did, directly, on a few occassions. And I don't mean just lying by omission. I mean he straight up said shit thats just not true. So, a liar lies to me to tell me they never lied to me. I won't trust it.
@@onbored9627plus if we say each character has a good and evil path to follow (except Karlach and Wyll who will even dip out if you're too evil in act 1) and Lea'zel's path is Vlakith or Orphius where Vlakith is the more evil path for her, Orphius would therefore be the good path, so siding with Orphius against the Emporer should therefore be continuing her good path meaning agreeing to the Emporer is therefore the evil path
And yeah there is some more neuonce here than just good or evil. If you're playing a practical character Orphius is ultimatly an unkown vs the one you do know, maybe you didn't even pick up Lea'zel or visit the cresh for her to start deviating away from Vlakith in the first place or something, but still it is one of the ways to look at the pathways your companions are going down
@@AnnaMno1 ah, very good points.
yeah i lost all trust with the emperor, still fucked him though.
BG3 has some of the most varied branched paths I've ever seen in a video game ever.
Truly master class tier that the big companies fear.
I also appreciate the community sharing these rare secret events because most would likely not go down this route.
And in the ending none of your choices matter
@@ah-lv1gcWhat? No they matter till the end, I finished two runs (almost on my third with a friend) and they're all different.
@@ah-lv1gc idk how you played, but virtually all of my choices throughout the game mattered in some way or another.
I mean, yeah, the game ends with a showdown with The Absolute pretty much no matter what you chose to do, but that was kind of inevitable the whole time... Idk why you'd be surprised or disappointed by that?
That doesn't mean your choices didn't matter.
@@MarkovChains223 if you will side with goblins you won't get any additional quests or interactions with them later, Ketheric kills them in the same way as he doing when they are totally failed - your choice did nothing, only broke tifling quests. If you will side with Ketheric, return him daughter, Balthazar and Spider Man, he will still try to kill you and all of them will die in the end. If you side with Gortash he will die anyway - evil choices exist but actually do nothing
@@user-qu7nv9hd9qThere is no team in evil. The villains were literally all trying to betray each other. If you play as an evil character, you are basically manipulating others for your own benefit. You need all three netherstones to control the brain on your own. So you have to kill all who have one.
I got this ending when I failed to reach the astral plane portal in time.
That giant ithilid head looming in the background - terrifying and oddly awe inspiring at the same time.
Narratively it makes sense that you wouldn't have enough time to get to baldurs gate in time if you backtracked but from a gameplay perspective it's frustrating since it doesn't matter how many long tests you take in the game. Still good game design as it makes future playthroughs make you search more thoroughly just personally irritating
Ansur was right about the emperor, hes a goddamn backstabber. All that lightning seemed excessive but now i know its justified
So if I was your friend and I wanted to end your life, you would let me?
Ansur tried to kill him. Whether or not he deserved to die does not change the fact that Emperor killed him out of self defence.
If someone you knew tried to shoot you would you let them?
@@angerypotato7430but he IS a mindflayer . despite his conscience he still do what every mind flayed do: eat brain, build a empire and trying to change everyone else into a mind flayer. He is more polite about it but still
@Milkiia Githyanki are imperialistic genocidal slavers yet everyone loves Laezel and Orpheus.
This isn't a hidden ending. Its the cut scene for any different way the absolute finds you and turns you into a mindflayer.
I tried to kill the gith infiltrating my camp instead of getting to the portal within 3 turns at that bit between Acts II and III and this change also happened to me. So I reloaded. Interesting idea trying to go back to Act 1!
All I got to say is thank God for Lae'Zel's psychic jump. Managed to get to that portal in a single leap without my party getting their butts terribly kicked by Githyanki monks in the process.
I somehow managed to get 2 different misty steps equipments on astarion so he can teleport twice per short rest (and turn himself invisible on top of it) I somehow didnt notice the countdown for a bit thinking I was suppose to kill them, I think that was the fastest "oh shit" teleport i have ever done with the oversized mosquito@@madamefluffy4788
I swear to god if you leave your cursor in the middle of the screen again during cutscenes 😤
But why only Tav transformed? Would've been more epic & disturbing if all 4 of them had, the 3 other companions' transformation being his fault
obviously, it's to serve as a WARNING to the others. It's not really spoilers at this point.....your guardian is a freaking illithid. Independant mind with more access to memories of his old life than usual, yes...but STILL an illithid. logic and manipulation are tools as instinctive to it as "lift your hands to protect yourself when under attack" is to anyone else. Sacrifice the "problem" puppet, the others might still fall into line.
They all get transformed. You can see the others struggling in the background as well as their changed portraits in the party list.
wouldve made more sense if only your character transforms as an example, to horrify the others into doin emperors orders
it'd be hilarious to see halsin turn into mind flayer without a tadpole XD
I JUST WANTED TO BUY SOME POTIONS IN THE GROVE!
Shut up Professor Oak!
Where I do and don’t ride my bicycle is MY damn business, GEEZ.
You don't even have to kill Ketheric. You just have to be on the Moonrise tower quest in the Shadowlands.
It only locks out after the Gauntlet of Shar.
I made it to the Moonrise Towers and was able to go back to Act 1 to wrap up a couple quests. You only get locked out of Act 1 once you go through the Gauntlet of Sharr and meet the Nightsong
This also happens if you try and progress to baldurs gate before killing ketheric
Actually I'm not sure, I do remember it was used to be a game over but last time I tried I just got teleported to the under prison in moon tower with some funny quotes of my companions saying that would never try to fight a thousand enemies anymore.
I’ve never seen this interaction on trying to go to BG w/o killing Ketheric, I’ve only ever gotten game over screens or sent to moonrise prisons. Was there a certain part of the story you attempted it? Like after freeing Nightsong but w/o going after Ketheric?
This happened to me when I tried to go to Baldur's Gate without killing Ketheric.
you can just feel the devs are playing this game by themselves. They thought about every possibility
Not sure if it's been patched, but if you save mid cutscene and load the save, you can play as a party of full illithids
Do you keep all your class levels? What kind of powers do you have? Do you get any interesting dialogue options?
... do the sex scenes still work?
@coriusfarinprimarchofthese7007 Asking the important questions. Respect.
@@coriusfarinprimarchofthese7007 Yes you keep the class levels. I haven't done a full playthrough that way so much I don't know. I can confirm that it does trigger some unique/possibly sequence breaking dialogue options. I had withers appear in the overworld randomly to lecture me. Most NPCs seemed to ignore the change
Only thing I dislike of this game is that u are force to work with the emperor till the end of act 3... wish Larian would have give the option of killing him and work with Orfeo instead.
I mean. You get that option.
@@AlyssMa7rindo you?
I know there's that fake show of trust when Vlaakith sends you into the prism to kill the person dwelling inside. But if you actually try to kill them, they reappear and say "well, guess you can't be trusted."
@staceyross1355 in act 3 there's 2 routes to getting the Orphic Hammer to free him from the Emperor, you can bargain with Raphael, or go into the house of Hope and steal it from him. Then you can use this to break orpheus out with the Gith
@@danielcooper7174 yeah, but that doesn't really happen until the act of end 3. It seemed like the person above was hoping you could do something sooner than that.
@@staceyross1355 i think story wise that'd be super hard to manage since orpheus would have zero reason to help you before the issue with the netherbrain arose
This can also happen to you in moonrise towers if you pick poor choices at the crack where you can find out it’s an elder brain
It's like "I told you so" ending.
What if you take Jaheira? She‘s not Tadpoled. Or, since you’re always implicitly traveling with the whole group and the camp, my theory wouldn’t work?
Jaheira won’t go with you from outside the moonrise tower
@@quyetthangnguyen5417then what about halsin? i think he’s free to travel with you after you wrap up thaniel’s questline and he doesn’t have a tadpole
idk what to think... in the end, the Elder Brain informs us that it let us get away as a ploy for its own freedom. But theres so many parts of the game that actively disprove that. This being one of them... was it just rolling its own Deception roll on the player at the end of the game to try to win favor or something? I dun get it xD
every time an illithid speaks to you it's rolling a deception roll and they critical success almost EVERY time. "Not literally, but they're scum."
Never believe anything that a mindflayer tells you, perhaps.
“You must gather your party before venturing forth.”
Imagine doing that in honor mode.
Even if the Elder Brain finds the party, Orpheus' protection should still be enough. But I guess The Emperor doesn't care.
The Emperor is the ultimate railroading NPC.
I'm glad I completed all the quests and such while still in act 1 then lol
You can go back to most act 1 quest during Act 2. The only big change is if you didn't stop the ritual the druid grove will be sealed off and the Teiflings dead.
@@jaystrickland4151 yea, but when I posted that comment, I'd literally just completed act 2 and moved on to act 3
That should not have been a game over, it should have transitioned into your quest is now to help the absolute take over. ACT 3 is you invading Baldurs Gate
If they did that that would make it so that we have to wait another three years to get the game
But without you to stop them its the easiest thing ever
“Bro I just wanted to pick up a sword I left here. Jeez”
So are the mindflayers like emperor or the one in the underdark supposed to be like memory' backups of elderbrain?
this works not just after killing ketheric but after you complete Shar's temple aka stepping into the pool. Basically when you go to meet the nightsong after that encounter you can no longer travel back outside of the shadowlands
This makes sense - I was wondering why some underdark quests from act 1 that I didn't complete (glut) still marked as completable in the quest log after entering act 2, but marked them as failed after progressing to meet nightsong
Yeah I fucked up i can’t complete githyanki crèche anymore ;///
@@angled-4391 yeah that happens you can just reload an earlier save or just save it for your next run.
i'm already in act 3, so i guess i'll just do it on my next run, i also looked for mods to fix it somehow but there's none@@ZKSTLKDESU
Thank you for being insistent and foolish on our behalf 😂
MAN i did that the first time cuz the guardian pissed me off, it took me by surprise
i got this before kethric! love it

rocks fall, you die. btw, what about shadowheart's shiny?
I did this. Was trying to get to level 9 so that I could beat mykul as I found myself underleveled. Almost put myself in a position I could not get past but managed to win that fight with a change in party members... That and about 6 tries.
Needless to say I don't think I ever want to try honor mode.
Because that thing happend to me i never trusted the emporer
He basicly killed us, as we didnt followed his orders and thats pretty evil in my book
The Emperor is textbook Lawful Evil. He has only ever been looking out for his own interests. He only allied with you because he needed you. The moment you're no longer compliant or useful, he has no more reason to keep you.
there is a dream conversation where he reveals his true colors
Maybe you shouldn't tried to enslave him in return. You are simply abandoning the brain at that point and that means you and him will get enslaved. And the deal was 'I protect you, and you take care of the brain' so technically you are the one who broke the deal in the first place.
Yep, you can even point out "Ah, now the mask slips" when he starts getting upset that you aren't his mindless thrall@@GreatUncleanOne1
He was trying to help you save the world. You were actively going against him (correct me if I'm wrong I've played a small part of act II so far and the rest was videos)
I did this last week I wanted to go the githyanki route after the underdark and did Moonrise towers but that happend instead lol 🤣
Same ending if you kill the emperor at the start of act 3. Can’t even try and free Orpheus.
Wish they didn’t force this whole must side with the emperor for protection thing.
It breaks a lot of RP for Githyanki and ruins the fun for evil characters.
He looted Kethricks beard :O
🤣
When this happens, quick save when the end game message comes up. then, reload with that save.
Tav or The Dark Urge should've listened...
*Inserting "Hello Zepp" Theme playing out in the background*
How many times does the game have to warn you you shouldn't do that?
Isnt this after the nightsong? Not ketheric.
Also there used to be a bug where if you spam saved right when you transform you can play the rest of ur run as a mind flayer. Crazy
same happens if you dont trust the emperor and you kill him when u fight the gith warriors starting act 3
Nice hat!
Most games would put an invisible wall there.
this happened to me first run and I got confused lmao
wow I tried to go back but I didn't even try to click on the prompt more than once
My favorite part was when the Absolute said "IT'S SQUIDDING TIME!" and then squidded everybody.
🤣
I dont get why the Absolute transforms you though... isn't it halting the ceremorphosis of all the True Souls for now? It should just control you, like it does to the others, but not transform you right away
The emperor mentions the order to transform you has come many times already, so I think the absolute realizes you're a huge pain and mucking up their plans and being a mindflayer would just make things easier.
No, it's not the Absolute that's preventing our transformation. Once you enter Act 3, you learn what's really going on.
Same happen if you exit act2 dont matter what you do.
Ive tryed to go back rigth at the start of act 2 and got the same
This is how I ended the game and never played again. Praise the Absolute.
He most def looks like someone who’d do that. LMAO
Can you do scare score for teke teke
Why is it game over? I expected Larian to let us play as an Illithid 😂
well you can do that lol, but in this case you're under the Absolute commands so you fail the whole point of the game
its game over cus the absolute mind controls you and you become the main villains slave...
you can still turn yourself into a mindflayer at the end of the game if that is what you want... not sure why youd want that though.

Same thing if you kill squid 🦑 vs the goth monks
Yeah, this "Hidden Ending" ended up cutting me out of even laying eyes on the mountain path....
U don't need to kill Ketheric to this happen, just visit gitianki before act 2
The Emperor is an asshole, and the whole plot device is quite railroady. Great game tho.
This happens before you kill kethric too. It's not because of ketheics death. I did this, and my friends were pissed at me lmao.
This is not a hidden ending this is just the game being "hey you fucked up" the game literally says between acts 1, 2 and 3 before you go into each new act "Tie up loose ends"
I think this happened to me too after failing a str roll of fucking 2.
It's not the ending, it's a game over, lmao.
Still an ending. Just not a good one for your Tav lol
then jumping out of the nautiloid and dying to fall damage is also an ending. and better than this one, too.
So stupid. Emp just gives up whenever you annoy him. Like he has literally anything else better to do. The moment he leaves the place he's in, he's dead too.
What about if you use that ring from the Illithid in the underdark to shield your mind from her
Ring is a scam; advantage on charm saves, but no plot protection.
@@tiamagus6641In early access, the tadpole progressed automatically whenever you used (illithid) dialogue options, and the ring removed those options so your tadpole couldn't get any stronger. So it actually *kinda* did what it was supposed to. When the tadpole was reworked into a skill tree, the ring was also changed and it's basically useless now. I mean, it was useless before too, since you could just avoid picking those options anyway, but at least the effect was more interesting.

@@DParkerNunya i went into the underdark realizing i missed the caustic ring. directly after the fight.
@dedprice3142 the underdark might be considered okay, since the line between act 1 and 2 is kinda blurry. Maybe it considers the underdark part of act 2 so it doesn't mind?
illithids used to wear clothes. I miss those days
They do, but they're not born with them
Not that I want to see Tav in a lot of pain or anything, but comparing this transformation to the one in the trailer leaves a bit to be desired
Baulder xD
Not a hidden ending
My favorite hidden ending is where my whole team dies by self deletion
I don't really like this ending, you turning into a mindflayer seems a little wierd for the story, since there's alot of truesouls who are in their normal form I don't understand why the absolute would transform you. The emperor just couldn't protect you anymore
This also happens if you just get into act 2 and try to go back to act 1
Seems you are a thrall to both sides.
Wait I'm lost. Spoilers. If the netherbrain's plan the whole time was for you to free it by killing the dead threes chosens then doesn't turning you during act II mean that it stays a thrall seems like the brain is making a mistake.
The netherbrain already foresaw any and all possibilities. Ketheric was already planning to betray the other two and all it takes is for one of them to die and the netherbrain is free. It was just using the dead three to build an army for it.
