They hate Russo because he's right and his system worked... He wasn't perfect but he turned around every team(show) he was in charge of. Politics has kept him out of the WWE. Give him a year with a small writing team and they would win again... Matter of fact, the WWE would be smart to bring in Russo to book Smackdown when it goes to FOX... It's going to be a different ball game on network TV.

@Nightmare Zer0 The ratings were going up at WCW in his brief stint as head writer. However, things were so chaotic there, they didn't let him have control very long.

Russo hides behind the I’m just a simple guy from New York gimmick, the guy is a closet genius! I’m proud to say he is on my Top 10 list of favorite writers of all time, it might sound a bit accessive but think about it how many hours of the attitude era content he wrote and the fact that even today people are still watching wrestling because of the impact the Attitude Era had on them.

I’m sure Russo could make WWE better than what it is, but I also think Triple H could do just as good. If only Vince would let Hunter run the show. Vince can take a big step back and be backstage coaching folks. It would probably work just fine.
I think Vince is trying to sell the WWE before he passes so that way the family doesn’t have to worry about continuing it. I can see everyone getting a nice chunk of change from that and living comfortably but these kids also live for this.

  • @1krani

Vince, you could TOTALLY take credit for the Attitude Era's success and it would be justified, considering what happened to WWF's storylines after you left.
The Reign of Terror, the misuse of Steve Austin's brand by feeding him to Brock Lesnar, the failure of The Invasion, the castration of WCW's legit main eventers, Super Cena's own Reign of Terror, the burial of The Nexus, of Sting, of CM Punk, the continuing burial of anyone on the main roster who isn't a designated "The Guy" or an already bankable star from the previous decade(s), this is all of what happens when Vinnie Mac is left unchallenged, either from without or from within, with the only people holding his ear being those whose egos are on the line in the storylines.
The only reason you SHOULDN'T take credit for WWF's success is because Ed Ferrera was working with you, and I imagine he also had a hand in tempering Vinnie Mac's hubris.

Ikrani if you listen to Bruce Prichard’s podcast he says (from his own recollection) that Ferrara didn’t really have any ideas, he simply assisted Russo. Prichard couldn’t think of one single time Ferrara actually came up with his own idea for something. It was always Russo. Not to say Ferrara wasn’t a smart guy. He had a Hollywood writing background

      @@tededwards5709
Well, easier to have good ideas when implementing them requires less work on your part. I still think Ferrara should get some credit. As a writer myself, having a second, well-informed opinion is invalueble, as it often adds that extra layer of polish that brings a mediocre idea up to "good", or a good idea up to "great".
So then let us give Russo... 70% of the credit?

I never thought in a billion years I would EVER and I mean EVER say this.... but I actually agree with Russo on SOME points. They absolutely killed Braun with that Elf costume, and trying to make him a "funny" figure. You DO have to establish characters.

Very good podcast with lots of truths, good ideas and advices. They definitely need some help, some real writers. Only a few but good ones. Vince McMahon, Steph, the creative team seem so out of touch, it's baffling. They are so lazy, clueless and stupid, it's crazy to watch. They don't create stars, they don't develop characters or any decent story. And the booking is bad. They ruined so many wrestlers. Raw and Smackdown really seem to be written by my 9yo nephew. It's embarrassing. If i couldn't fast forward the shows i think that i would die. WWE is ok financially for now but their viewers are old guys like Meltzer, they need to attract new viewers. Fox should be worried. I'm not very optimistic. Long matches between ordinary looking guys won't help unless you give them better material and give us good reasons to care about them. Like in any decent tv show, you need to care to be invested into the characters. Unless you like technical wrestling, technical fake fights above anything else, hard hitting simulated combat like Dave. & Circus spots absolutely not believable.

Vince Russo saying the same thing today he was saying 20 years ago - The WWE are trying to be taken seriously as an entertainment company which is want Vince McMahon wants, therefore moving away from traditional wrestling booking and creative hence calling it entertainment and not wrestling. But I still agree with Vince Russo, this entertainment nonsense is killing wrestling and I think that's what Vince McMahon wants in order to be taken seriously in the mainstream and not the stigma associated with wrestling.

It bothers me when they offer a month of something like The Brand, and say it is free, when it is not. If you don't sign up with a credit card, you can't get a free trial. So that means it isn't free because a credit card is required to get the free month. Not everyone has a credit card.... so can you at least say, sign up for free WITH a credit card...... so we don't waste time trying to sign up... only to find out you can't. I understand they don't CHARGE the credit card and you can cancel...... my issue is.... if you don't have a credit card, you can't have a free trial.
