For anyone watching this in the future, the solvent in nail varnish that melts plastic is a common solvent used in nail varnish, and is also a component of plastic cements such as Tamiya thin and Tamiya extra thin, and that is Acetone. Acetone is notorious for, and actually used to dissolve styrenes and polymer plastics. If you're looking for a nail varnish to use on polycaps and joints, make sure it is acetone/acetate free.
Mecha Gaikotsu : Guys, can you point out my mistakes when I review something up to this point ? Thanks. Viewers : My time has come. *Proceeds to shoots barrages of Mecha Gaikotsu failures like a minigun*
As for the 1:100 Lupus Rex, there are leftover joint parts in the runners that are not mentioned in the manual but are actually compatible, tighter and will hold the mace better in certain poses. Mine is 2 years old with rare posing (since I do not play with my kits) but the joints still hold the mace without any aid!
i could be mistaken, but that was an over time downgrade? he seems to play with his gunpla a lot, the review comes out super fast.... a few weeks later he finds out that "stress test" that he applies to all his Gunpla equally will prove true or not
Just going back and rewatching some older Mecha videos, and holy smokes Batman, this aged like a fine wine! - 14:01 Mecha has since become Irish Ken Kaneki.
i respect a creator for admitting mistakes. I love it when they get honest about it rather than cover it up or down play them. Then there are people like this that honestly admit mistakes and make it informative and funny. I appreciate the kind of man or machine that Mecha Gaikotsu is.
Seeing Barbatos hold that weapon with a single hand at the end is kind of impressive. I have that same kit and I had to pose it with the club over its head, held up by both hands.
the nail varnish thing is VERY common in the action figure community, but bandai's plastic tends to be "softer" than normal plastic and is more susceptible to solvents. also, the proper method for using super glue (again, a thing from the action figure community) is to place a drop on the ball, snap it back into the joint, move it around, take it out, THEN let it dry. this evenly distributes the glue over the surface so you don't get any lumpy spots. it will absolutely cloud the plastic and will break down over time requiring more glue leading to broken joints and brittle plastic so don't mess with them too much after fixing them.
For the nail varnish thing, anything with enamel and lacquer is potentially damaging to Bandai's plastic. They are a bit more sensitive compared to plastics being used by Tamiya, Airfix, etc. (Even though they all listed it as Polystyrene).
"I tried to show the kit at the best possible light" Oh sure, like the time you cut MG Victory into pieces with hot knife? Like when you burned Super Fumina into bloody mess? Like the time you slap RG Sazabi around like a baboon playing with its prey?
@androyus I wouldn't necessarily call them "mistakes" i would more call them bad choice making as MGK wasn't wrong for cutting, burning, slapping, ect Gunpla it was just not the best way to go about that if you get what i mean. Also the kits he abused weren't exactly super rare or super high end kits, he wasn't burning a PG Phenex he was burning a Super Fumina which is one of the most hated kits out there so i don't think anyone really cared that much as for the Saz and Victory Hexa Dash Ver Ka. those shouldn't have been cut to bits or slapped but like i said their not rare, highly sought after, or highly praised so i think it was fine y'know.

For this you have all my respect as person, something I already had but now a little bit stronger than before. Have a nice day!
boi oh boi I was expecting the RG Astray Red Frame one to be included. In the video, you said something along the line of "the waist joint really likes to fall off" which turned me away from the kit for a while until I revisited and saw a comment saying that you didn't push it in far enough. Awesome little kit and that "flaw" that was in your video were nonexistent.
just started building gunpla last month, watched your video about the lazy way to tighten the joints using nail varnish. i did that on my three of HG IBO kits, and then this video came out. GETTING PANIC AF, check the tightened joints, and luckily it still good!! GODDAMN!!
@Black Chandelier Mirage He claims that he's also a builder, but the things I remember about him are his pics of *BOXES* in Twitter and videos of *BOXES* in RUclips 😸😹
can anyone find out what exactly are the chemicals that nail polish/varnish contain that CAN melt plastic? im using clear acrylic nail polish and ive never melted anything, but just to be safe right?
I'm super glad I watched this. I was genuinely thinking of using nail varnish one day if I ever got loose joints. Now I think I'll just save up for tamiya paint or even top coat at that
as a substitute for varnish/paint, if you live in the US or UK, your nearest comic/hobby store almost certainly sells warhammer stuff. you can pick up a tub of "'ard coat" a type of painted-on topcoat used in the war-gaming community which works really well for tightening joints.
I remember using glue as a solution to tighten up the joints, as I realized a few days later, the joint was a bit loose again, so I took it off and realized that I had melted 2/10 of the joint away. Definitely won't be putting joint back into the socket without waiting for it to dry.
I've had that drink...accidentally. I was in a hotel in Japan and I was thirsty, so I went to the vending machine and thought I was getting grapefruit juice. It was a long time ago, I was a teenager at the time.
I want to admit, I asked for Marchosias for a long time before, and after, Hajiroboshi was born. Hype increased when Marchosias was confirmed to be Hajiroboshi's original form, which, in fact, was my suspicion from the very beginning.
God, Now I wanna know is there anymore time when you review a gunpla drunk. And yeah, I use the Nail Polish top coat to tighten my gunpla joints, and it worked well. I guess i'm lucky.
Yeah, me too If it works, I see the ingredients of some clear nail varnish and polish and some use acetone (wich melts the plastic) so be careful and read the components of the one you are gonna use
I believe the story of Urdr-Hunt is being released through the Mobile Suit Gundam IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS G app, which was the game which first featured Gundam Marchosias itself as well - at least, through screenshots of it in-game. I personally think that if they went this far already for Marchosias, Hajiroboshi and the story it comes from will follow in due course... But that's just me.
The best thing to tighten plastic joints with is Pledge floor wax with Future brand acrylic varnish. You can also use it as a topcoat if you want a glossier finish on a part.
A bought a huge bottle of that stuff at Walmart for five or six bucks a few years ago. I still have plenty left to this day. It also works well for a gloss topcoat since it self-levels.
#1 - Is a legit method. You just lacked additional information on what kind of nail polish should be used. This the same with using paint as well... some paint aren't plastic friendly.
Might need to do another of these... Maybe have it be a Annual video? Also Urdr Hunt isn't so much cancelled or anything like that but put into a delayed status not only because of the Virus but also a issue with some of the licensing for the game. And apparently them not being able to settle on how they actually want the game to work... (Apparently some form of Tactical RPG, Action RPG, or something like the Gunpla Warfare game is in the lead right now.)
Number 1 is a helpful precaution, some chemicals in different kinds of paint definitely ate or melt specific plastics that cause breakage. Mecha, my final helpful tip to you is Never use a GodHand Nipper on Clear plastics AT ALL! Thin metal-nipper breaks when cutting a sturdy, durable plastic which is why Thicc-nippers is a must. xD
One trick I've always used for loose joints is putting a tiny piece of tissue paper or toilet paper around the joint before inserting it. It adds mass so the joint holds better, it's safe, and it's totally reversible if you need to remove it for some reason.
The number 1 thing to tighten joints: Pledge Future Floor Wax. Don't use any nail polish or whatever. This is a well known joint tightener in the Transformer community.
Lol! For a second I thought you screwed up with the numbers and put a 0 instead of a 1, but I just realized its a blocky 1. Good lord I was about to rip on you big time!
Kinda funny that right at the end, I notice one of the chest vents is missing from your MG RX-78-02, as you're asking for us to point out some mistakes. XD
Thank you for that because I used the clear nail polish on the shoulder of my high grade barbatos and it just straight up melt it so I have to use Gundam 00 arm as a substitute.
I've taken the joint thickening trick to heart and use one of my gundam markers (black, matte) almost exclusively for it... But you can't use it on everything, either. I've broken one wrist (alex 2.0) and one knee (zeta plus unicorn ver), because it was more than the plastic can sometimes take.... Many, even most, kits though? Get those tight joints to hold poses!
I use nail varnish on my kits to tighten joints and I make sure it's the right type. If you're going to use it use a spare runner or something to test that it doesn't melt it.
Also the ranking of wargreymon was silver when you reviewed it, then on the omnimon when you compared them you said it was gold tier. Edit: Not that its bad just saying
To tighten joints i use my girlfriends nail polish. Drys quick and works great. Also the super glue one works too as well as paint but it has to be a thick paint. Works none the less.
It's funny because yesterday I watched the video about how to fix lose joints and now RUclips recommends me this. I'm glad because I was going to try it
Guess i have been lucky with the Joint Tightning then. I used clear Nail Polish ever since you posted that vid and worked way better then glue or paint ever did for me. And 0 melted plastics.
A little screw up you made that i remember is that you put the shield of the gm gm wrong, the square part connected to the arm, not to the shield itself.
acrylic should be fine on straight plastic but anything stronger like enamel or lacquer will eat away the plastic if left on for too long or in large enough quantities. Found this out the hard way on my first master grade a while ago. Not a happy night.
Just wondering if you've ever built the very first HG Gundam to come out, the RX-78-2 which came out way back in 1990. If not yet, then you might want to check it out as it might be old, but there are surprises there as well for such an ancient kit.
