    As a former water conditioner salesman, I can tell you that I tested all forms of inline filters and never found a notable difference between the filtered water and the unfiltered water in the same home, as in: not a single grain of hardness difference. Water softeners or conditioners are the only way I know to remove the hardness effectively. Some are much better than others, and ALWAYS check the BBB if you hire it out.

    Damn good video. Straight and to the point. Would have liked to see you advocate a full flow straight valve for the drain instead of that bent valve on there now. That full flow really cleans that stuff out.

    The city was working on some lines and new roads recently, after they finished I got a lot of sediment in my lines from what they did, when this happened my hot water stopped warming up completely. I thought it was the elements so I had them changed out, but still no hot water. The thermostat was checked and its fine, the electric lines were checked, and nothing is wrong with those. What could be the reason for no hot water? I'm not sure if this matters, but another change I noticed, is that the tank no longer makes any sounds.

    Thankyou, but in the process of draining my tank a SECOND time, and thought I would try your directions, but you didn't mention if I am supposed to open a hot water tap upstairs first? 😳 Please help!

    Does the sediment go into the water lines? I'm having to clean my bathroom and kitchen aerators almost weekly with grit or sandlike buildup. I just replaced one hot water heater and the other is a 2014. Any ideas?

    A water pipe off the incoming water line on top of the water heater busted and drowned my tank. I think water went in the tank through the vent at top of heater and soaked the burner and pilot. I opened & dried it as best as I could. If I let it dry out, will it work again?

    I am experiencing black sediment in the water. I'm on a well. It's a house I just bought and signs indicate that things were not maintained as they should have been. Could this black sediment be from water heater as well?

    • @unclematt3
      @unclematt3 4 года назад

      Do you have those braided stainless steels connection hoses with interior black sleeves? There was a massive foul up in the manufacturing of those that lead to the sleeves disintegrating and black flecks and sediment being carried into the home, especially the bathtub when you've run a bath. Try replacing those hoses (new ones only cost about $20) with flexible stainless steel hoses. Cured my problem.

    What if you attach a hose and it only drips put not flows? Is that a sign it’s really blocked with sediment?

    • @unclematt3
      @unclematt3 4 года назад +1

      Probably yes. If you turned off the cold water input and don't have any faucets open, the tank can't drain. You've made a vacuum and the water can't drain out. First, make sure your cold water input is open. Second, try opening a few faucets on the hot side and see if that helps. If none of that works, you can try wiggling a bit of wire up through the valve and seeing if you can get it flowing better that way. Or you can try hooking up a hose from a laundry faucet and trying to blast water back into the tank to clear the blockage. If you don't have a full flow straight drain valve, you're going to have these troubles.

    I have a problem with my water heater, Im always replacing the bottom element because it blowing out every few months and we clean it out every time. get all the sediment out. some times it will blow ut again in a month a few times, this has been going on for about 5 years.

    • @unclematt3
      @unclematt3 4 года назад +1

      You need a new water heater. This shouldn't be happening. If you're blowing every few months, your tank is at the end of its life. Get a new one. Before you say you can't afford it, think about what a flooded basement is going to cost you.

    • @melissav6374
      @melissav6374 5 лет назад

      I thought about this, too, but even if that were possible, it would only be if you were drinking hot water from the tap or using it for cooking. You should never do either.

  • @sweetkellymay
    @sweetkellymay 11 лет назад

    Only if your drinking the hot water,the cold water from your taps does not go through the water heater..
