If you guys have time you guys should talk about the song and music video "This is America" by Childish Gambino, would love to hear your guys thoughts on it
Ethan Eckert Feefo And B don’t really engage in stuff like this cuz i think they don’t really know so it’s better for them to shut up then talk and sound stupid. 🤷🏽♂️
Upful Soul why? How would that not be entertaining? They're a channel that discusses music. Why do they only have to talk about albums with strictly Nas/Royce type of bars? I mean yea, they're not gonna talk about every latest rock or r&b album , but it's Kanye , one of the biggest hip-hop artists , and artists period. Also an album with alot of mixed reviews and controversial opinions. Why would you not want that?
King Marc That was a pop album. It had some interesting beats but the emo autotune delivery was irritating. You and the few people that liked your comment are in the vast minority who want that request. After that album, several rappers wanted to start singing and the genre got "soft". I like House music so I'm not some kind of hiphop purist but I know for a fact hiphop heads hated that album. Kanye is one of biggest black hiphop/pop artists. However, Kayne don't do big numbers like that (we aren't in 2008 anymore). But he always manages to have, at least, one hit on his albums. At this point, in his career he's an old rapper; he probably has 2 or 3 projects left max. Most of his peers have retired and it's the consensus that he's not right in the head. I don't know wtf he has to rap about anymore. Both Em and Jay whether their recent projects were well received or not, showed maturity in their content.
Upful Soul you’re completely wrong. the 808s & heartbreak review has been a running joke in the DEHH reviews since their Watch the Throne review. also they have reviewed Childish Gambino, Frank Ocean and The Weeknd who are all not hip hop. finally 808s is Kanye’s second if not his most influential album. Drake, Gambino, Future, Uzi, Travis, etc all exist because of 808s.

I’m with Myke on this one, just ignore Kanye because it’s obvious he’s just doing this for attention and it’s clear that in this case he’s succeeding. If we put all of our energy into ignoring him, he takes the L, that’s it. He’s already admitted that he doesn’t read books, that should already gives a warning that he should not be listened to
Love from the UK. Huge congrats for the moving into the new studio. Been watching since you were all stood outside in a car park arguing with each other.
Many months later, I feel like this holds up as one of the best videos on the whole Kanye debacle, by far. Myke is absolutely correct that if Kanye actually wanted to 'repurpose' the hat he would have done some lefty shit with it, not said that he loved Trump. He didn't repurpose anything, he tried to save the hat and its original meaning and glorify it.

(14:55) On point! And even if Myke is wrong, which he's not, this is an example of how you apply free thought (i.e. using logic to analyze your thoughts).
Love that yall on kanyes side explain what he “really meant” far more in depth than he does or ever has. Kanye cant seem to get past the first 2 sentences when hes making a “point”
I love these guys album review but in the years watching this channel, this might be the most important video I've seen from them. Average BLACK Americans talking about the impact of Kanye West's actions.
William Cooper actually whites were servants and couldnt be mistreated legally and they were only servants as a way to pay back their masters. Also slavery continued even after it was abolished by loop holes such as share cropping and in the prisions which continued into the 1960's.
Kanye West is a black man from the south side of Chicago. His mother was an Africa American studies professor. So when he says "slavery was a choice" I now look at everything he's said in the past as a disingenuous marketing to sell records. To say that & ignore everything that historically came before is irritating and ignorant. My biggest issue is his failure of consistency with his ideologies and "Free Thinking". He called himself a leader of the people/culture. The same injustices he vocally preached about through his early career is the same injustices he willfully chooses to ignore now. He made millions discussing the conditions African Americans & other minorities have historically dealt with in America. So when kanye says all these inconsistent & illogical "free thoughts" for album promo I'm personally offended as an artist, a black man, & a consumer. I don't care that he agrees with trump. He's allowed to even though he's vocally said he has no clue of his policies. He's allowed to have an opinion even though its inconsistent with no contextual or factual weight. It's freedom of speech but freedom of speech should not be be followed by absence of thought. If your thought is not researched it's just ignorance. In 2018, can we please leave Kanye (and most entertainers) and stop looking for him to create real selfless change? Can we please start looking up to people like Elon Musk? A man whose single handedly changing the world for the better of mankind through exploration and science. Im talking about a real humanitarian not an oblivious entertainer whose disconnected from realty.
I always thought Make America Great Again was more about being anti-immigrant than being anti-black. It may have turned into an anti black thing but the intent was to be anti immigrant.
I thin Myke is misinterpreting Kanye’s 400 year reference. He’s right about the 400 years of US slavery being about 250 years but, Kanye wasn’t being deep about it as to include 2019 in those years. That statement of 400 year slavery is pretty popular in black empowerment speech because it refers to the amount of time that transatlantic slave trading took place, back into the early 1500s. KRS had a line about it in “Sound of da Police.” It’s all encompassing towards Africans, but can be misleading when talking about slavery in the U.S.
It should be mentioned that kanye said (yelled at tmz employees) that hes doctor prescribed like 3 or 4 pills a day and he said he takes like 1 a week... so theres your problem right? Not that hes not still a greedy asshole but still I feel it explains a lot
William Cooper No I heard everything he said don't make assumptions. And from his words over the past couple weeks I can see he is woefully ill informed about everything he talks about.
I think Kanye meant that a lot of black people have this mentality that we’re mentally enslaved right now. I somewhat agree with him but he should’ve used his words better. It’s kinda sad because the other stuff that he’s saying he contradicting his old work. I honestly don’t know if it’s just how he is or he’s mentally ill or if he’s really in the sunken place fr. I hope this changes cause this guy has been a inspiration to MANY people.
T. Stamp hence it was either incredibly stupid for him to go to tmz or entirely premeditated. If there's anyone that knows how much of a soundbite culture we live in, it's Ye. He wants to be better understood by people so he goes into the den of the very place that's most likely to take him out of context? Interesting.
R Parker I don't hate Kanye, and I wasn't personally offended by anything he said...but I'm not blinded by some need to defend the PR "blunder" he made (which was likely very intentional). I simply find it silly how people will admit that he's not the best communicator but then blame anyone but Ye for misreading his message. I also find it silly how they can be selective about the 400yrs comment to only be in reference to the latter part of those years but be flabbergasted that some people would interpret it to include the early part of those years. It's like a politician scheduling an impromptu sitdown with a partisan rival, then saying the words "the millions of black people in this country are lazy and unemployed," but then proceeds to give a long, nuanced message of clarification. In this soundbite culture, no amount of clarification is going to get some people to look past the fact that those original words still came out of that politician's mouth. People saying "if you listen to the rest of what he said then you'll realize that he wasn't talking about all black people, just these particular people that do these particular things." Yet no amount of nuance and clarification would ever get most people to give the rest of that politician's message a chance, because that starter would be an obviously horrible way to start the conversation...with the true danger of it being the types of people that would latch on to those first words to agreeingly validate their racist views. Some say "How is it that people can't understand that Kanye meant 400yrs including today?," to which I say "how is it that *you* can't understand how people would obviously misunderstand it to include yesterday??" *Should* people not be so reactionary and learn to research beyond soundbites? Of course. But they don't...and Kanye knew that before he stepped foot into TMZ, of all places.
So tell us, what happens when we as black people awake from our mental enslavement?? Does evolving from that means denouncing slavery and becoming a Trump supporter?
IMO the Kanye wearing the hat to redefine is one of the things I can understand and believe. He did the same thing with the confederate flag during the Yeezus era.
Not arguing whether or not it's dumb, just the fact that Kanye most likely did have this idea in mind. I personally don't think it's that bad of an idea, the hat has pretty bad connotations right now so I don't have an issue with the idea. Regardless, my original comment was just me saying I don't agree with Myke.
Jee Hone.... I'm not disagreeing necessarily. I think he THINKS he can change it, but I also KNOW he loves controversy. Otherwise he'd STILL be rocking the Confederate flag clothing
So Rod's question about Kanye repurposing MAGA is interesting, but I think Myke's response is a little off. The question for Rod to answer isn't really "does Kanye truly believe that he's doing that?" but "could it be effective if he does?" Because in order to repurpose MAGA for black people, there would have to be a time when America was great for black people to which to return. It makes no sense even if Kanye really does believe that that's what he's doing.
Then he needs to get better at communicating. The problem is that he knew what he was doing. He's specifically and repeatedly stated before that he loves being the center of controversy. It would've been SO easy to explain the concept of Mental Slavery in simpler terms without any implication whatsoever that the slaves of yesteryear had a choice. He never should've said 400yrs, since that includes the past and was inevitably going to be misinterpreted by people...and I'd be willing to bet money he did it on purpose. Kanye knows how soundbites work. Trust.
Long story short what kanye is trying to say. Slavery happened a long time ago let us get over ourselves and keep moving forward. He needs to be bettet at communicating
look, to me it's as simple as the fact that we're watching a black person turn sharply conservative. it's only shocking because of who he started as and where he came from but he has an extremely fitting personality for someone who is right wing. he's not that different from other black conservatives who can conceptualize some basic problems with black people but doesn't actually care enough to dig deeper. He's just as disconnected as the other Ben Carsons and David Clarkes of the world....There's a Kanye in just about every black family tbh

OmightyBEAR hence him feeding his ego
ChrisJ Fox why is self- esteem mistaken for ego
Marcus INfinity because it isnt self-esteem in the case of Kanye West. Jay Z, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg, Puff Daddy, Childish Gambino, Pusha T, etc are all very confident without feeling the need to constantly try to "demand" (for lack of a better word) that people agree. They just do them, and anything else is just brushing it off their shoulders. They don't showcase any worry for what people think of them. They don't need validation to keep it pushing, whereas Kanye has literally had moments of expressing how he doesn't understand why people won't acknowledge that he's the greatest. Demanding that people love you when your record has the means to speak for itself is the opposite of self-esteem. Like Rick Ross said, "I ain't gotta prove nothin. Just look at the scoreboard."
Just because you like Kanye's music and understand why he feels the way that he does and is human isn't proof that the confidence he tries to portray is airtight. He struggles with people not liking him *because* he's convinced that they should, but that struggle exists nonetheless - a struggle that the artists I mentioned don't seem to have a problem with at all.

4 albums already guys, on time. Hope Teyana's a good one as well.
If only his production skills weren't so fire, people would write him off like he deserves
Myke was speaking Facts this whole Video
You doing that new Royce album soon? Album's absolute fire! 🔥🔥🔥
YE 5/5 DELIVERING ALBUMS. I TOLD YALL ILL BE BACK TO LAUGH AT YOU FOOLS WHEN HE PROVES EVERYBODY WRONG... AGAIN.
Bizarre N Rugged nah it was good, but you mad about what he said
It should be mentioned that kanye said (yelled at tmz employees) that hes doctor prescribed like 3 or 4 pills a day and he said he takes like 1 a week... so theres your problem right? Not that hes not still a greedy asshole but still I feel it explains a lot
yall gotta eat your words cause all those albums dropped
I know that diary of Ryan review coming soon lol can't wait to see what y'all thought. It was definitely interesting, solid bars as always.
How has kanye convinced so many people that he is some intellectual powerhouse when he is so uninformed about the shit he talks about?
mikeframbo ig Damn some people don't get it (you), have an objective mind and don't assume society standards...Ye sounds crazy but he's onto something
Kanye is a musical genius, I'll still agree to that, but socially he's everywhere, sometimes he's spot on and sometimes he's off especially recently.
MrAjama9 All he is doing is spewing meaningless platitudes at us and expecting us to hold him up as some philosopher. I'm not buying it.
William Cooper No I heard everything he said don't make assumptions. And from his words over the past couple weeks I can see he is woefully ill informed about everything he talks about.
This is why education is important. So many people idolize him and they take what he says as truth.
"He should've used his words better"
No shit. Mental Slavery isn't a new concept and it's not a difficult one to explain.
Slim_kid34 the first sentence of what you wrote is exactly what he said when they asked him to clarify what he meant. TMZ cut it out
Some say "How is it that people can't understand that Kanye meant 400yrs including today?," to which I say "how is it that *you* can't understand how people would obviously misunderstand it to include yesterday??"
*Should* people not be so reactionary and learn to research beyond soundbites? Of course. But they don't...and Kanye knew that before he stepped foot into TMZ, of all places.
So tell us, what happens when we as black people awake from our mental enslavement??
Does evolving from that means denouncing slavery and becoming a Trump supporter?
Beating a dead Unicorn.
*Decacorn
But they all did drop...
There always just turn into Myke Commentary feat. Rod and Deadendhiphop lol I love it
Whoever did the graphic/ artwork 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 simple but 🔥🔥🔥
was waiting for this one! and congrats on the new studio guys thats awesome. Love the show
Did Ken actually say that Kanye must be stopped? Stopped from doing what exactly? Expressing his opinion?
I wish their podcast was on Spotify :(
Dcypha69 I prefer soundcloud so I can look at comments
The Black Baron u mean youtube?
Why
This channel is so good I can't wait for y'all to hit a mil
IMO the Kanye wearing the hat to redefine is one of the things I can understand and believe. He did the same thing with the confederate flag during the Yeezus era.
Jee Hone... And it was dumb then too.
Oh my.... i been waiting for this for a while.🔥💯
Ken, I love your shirt. Haven't watched th video yet, but the shirt is important for this topic. That's dope, man.
Also, President Obama called him a jackass once, and he's right. He is white-washed if we're being real.
I haven't been here in a while. Damn Kinge got thicc.
Miguel Angel Medina Rise Thicc, old and grizzled
Myke the only woke one here
So Rod's question about Kanye repurposing MAGA is interesting, but I think Myke's response is a little off.
If you guys have been Watchin Atlanta then I can't wait for a video discussion
I disagree yall in some points but it's nice to hear this in unfiltered and full of heart.
But Kanye dropped all those albums tho.. 😭😭
We got all of those projects
When Ken said "This is America", all I could think about was them having a DEHH convo for the new Gambino video
Been waiting for this!!!
Kanye lowkey looking like Jeremiah from the last episode of Gotham (S4E21) at the last 10 minutes.
Ironically they were wrong and all these projects DID come out lol.
PUT THE PODCAST ON SPOTIFY FAMILY. PROUD PATREON!!
2019 aint even here yet thats how crazy that shit sounds..
Ye is fine, other than that trash ass slavery comment. I’m still copping his new album(s) but he being mad problematic
xSalamz ....okay?
Isa wow, so you processed none of what that guy said?
The Black Baron no I did, but I already knew all this stuff. Who doesn’t?
Isa He’s only gonna get more problematic
LMAOOO ISA IT'S KOFI FROM RAPTALKTM
Been waiting for this
Dead end studios. Fuck yea! Thanks for the content guys
Great convo!! Very much needed!
Kanye said what he said but I don't think that was what he meant, his delivery is awful!, his real point is not as wild as "slavery was a choice".
Trust.
Stop trying to defend him, you know exactly what he said .
Yeah but "kanye says slavery was a choice" is a great headline so....
sausepoon
Rationalizing ramblings of a man who is clearly ignorant despite college education is not gonna help this situation.
Long story short what kanye is trying to say.
Slavery happened a long time ago let us get over ourselves and keep moving forward. He needs to be bettet at communicating
Topic and title so good it must be clickbait
And come to find out he produced every album he tweeted lol
I been waiting on this
look, to me it's as simple as the fact that we're watching a black person turn sharply conservative. it's only shocking because of who he started as and where he came from but he has an extremely fitting personality for someone who is right wing. he's not that different from other black conservatives who can conceptualize some basic problems with black people but doesn't actually care enough to dig deeper. He's just as disconnected as the other Ben Carsons and David Clarkes of the world....There's a Kanye in just about every black family tbh
Damn I haven’t seen ya videos in MADDDDD LONG (bout a yr)
Damn, i gotta make some popcorn for this one
They really should do these convo's live, so people can correct shit and further the discussion
Idk why but Ken's shirt just makes me laugh. I just imagine him saying it in his hardcore Ken Voice™ and it's just hilarious bruh idk why
