  • I came up with this idea for 3D scales on lures from watching talented lure makers who hand carve every imaginable detail onto their handmade wooden lures. it was tempting to try my hand at it but I just knew I would get bored with it before I could get good at it..."know thy self?. So I came up with this simple and effective way of getting similar results without all the need for talent and patience. Best of all, with the exception of the scalloping scissors, I'm using stuff most lure makers already have and know how to use. I hope you find this informative. Haha! I guess the secret is out now! Great job! I have been doing this scale pattern with the tape for about 3 years now. I don't use the scissors though, I use a Fiskars rotary paper cutter with a scallop edge blade. I don't cut it on the centerline as neat as you do but I coat them with epoxy before I do so I can hide the seams when I paint them. Great job!

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  5 лет назад

      Nice!...it seemed like such an obvious extension of foiling I was surprised that others were not doing it. Great idea to use the rotary cutter, I bet it's much faster.

    awesome job, again. I can honestly say, I won't be attempting this one. I had an idea for scales for a lure, sketched it all out and coloured it the way I wanted, and it ended there. maybe one day, way, way in the future, but a tad too tedious for me right now.

    Hi
    I try to do this few years ago it didn't work for me but now I saw why, my scissor were very cheap, yours looks very good ones and professional, I instead used a paper hole puncher and place the scales one by one.. but this is a good one, awesome thanks

    How did you compete the top and bottom of the lure with foil scales? Seemed like on the video you explained how to do the sides. The end result in the video looked amazing just looking for clarification on joining the sides together

    Been enjoying your videos. How does the added weight of foil affect lure action

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 года назад

      It will affect the final weight but buy very little. And if you are placing the foil uniformly over the body, the lure action really is not changed.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  4 года назад +1

      Sure it works fine as a master to make a mold. You can then put foil over the lure, that you cast with the scale details, and still get a nice reflective surface and scales.
