He was and will always be. If there's one thing you have to know about being a singer or performer, it's that you will never, EVER be as good as Freddie Mercury.

I was at Live Aid and it was the greatest day of my life. It was the day that U2 became world famous and of course, it was the day that Queen tore the roof off a stadium with 72,000 people.
These guys did not just rock up and go on, it was practice, practice, practice, Freddie knew how big this was and he wanted to be perfect and they were.
Freddie *was* a true performer 😊. The studio must have felt so confining to him even though recording a song. The stage at Live Aid was just the right size! All that room to perform. There’ll never be another Freddie Mercury ❤️
@@fenderfetish As someone who was there at Wembley. There weren't many highlights. U2 put on a good show. But very few of the acts actually bothered to rehearse and time their 20 minute slot.
I was a huge Queen fan in the 70's, in fact they were my favorite band. I was lucky enough to have seen them live a number of times. Let me make the answer to the question easier, the reason they were so good at Live-Aid is because they were always that good and anyone that has seen them live would tell you the same.
@John John that’s a surprisingly bitchy comment based on the fact that it is a video based on why queen were good at live aid. Not to mention unnecessary. Also no one gives a fuck about what you think and no ones is going to like your comment.
It drives me mad how everybody says that in 1985 Queen were forgotten or irrelevant. I remember the radios playing their songs since 1974 almost constantly, the new songs from 1984 Radio Gaga and I want to break free were played at virtually every disco club at the time. A few months before Live Aid, they were top bill in Rock in Rio, which was the largest attended concert to that date.
Totally agree - they had just come off the Works Tour leg in Japan and Queen had played South America stadia in 1981 even before some of the artists had been discovered. The music press totally underestimated them and really hated the band most of the time. Their concerts form the 70's are hundreds of times better than artists these days.
True, the album they were promoting in '84/'85, The Works, had 4 major hits! They may have had internal strife-what band doesn't?, but they weren't exactly on their uppers.
All I can say is that I loved Queen 30 odd years ago and love their albums still. Freddie Mercury and Queen music transcends time. Not to mention loving their music played at hockey games, weddings and parties.
In answer to your question. Three parts. A) they are so we'll tuned together as a group. 4 fantastic musicians who all wrote hit singles all contributed to the band. B) Freddie made every single person at Wembley that day part of that concert...even Joe blogs who had the very back seat row z. And finally C) they just nailed it on the day! Hours of practice pre live aid. Freddie's opportunity to play to the world he and the rest of Queen gave it all.
There were 5 musicians on stage that day . They had the organist / pianist Mr spike edney with them . You can see him at the end of the set taking a bow. He played with them and still does at most of the gigs
@@littlebigman6957 Thank you so much for that information!!!!! I was wondering who that awesome piano player the extra guitar player was at Live Aid. He doesn't get enough recognition for his performance that day.
I absolutely LOVE their older songs....the writing was so amazingly touching on so many levels! Freddie was a great story teller, god bless you dear Freddie....sadly missed ♥️
Their rehearsal showed their absolute attention to detail which ultimately revealed professionalism and incredible talent combined. The level of energy behind the specially chosen songs (and order thereof) provided a specific mandate to provide a paying gig performance. They didn't coast; they brought their 'A' game and crammed their best into 25 too-short minutes. The audience recognized that and gladly sang along. It was too great not to!!
We should have a "Freddie Mercury Day" as a public holiday. As Freddie is constantly on everyone's heads, everyone'' lips, everyone's hearts. We love Freddie more than anything. How cool that would be? "A Freddie Mercury Day" :D
Rock & Roll was born in the 50s, grew up in the 60s, matured in the 70s, and then hit its absolute zenith on July 13, 1985 at Live Aid. And it's all been pretty much downhill since then.
Rick Kinki - As someone born in 1949, I got to enjoy every stage. Saw both The Beatles and Queen live as well as a flock of British Invasion groups. Music has circled the drain ever since. Sad! :(
Red Hot Chilli Peppers & Nirvana were great bands past 1985. Granted they weren’t on the same level in terms of timbre and musicianship though. Queen, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin from 60s-mid80s make music today look like child’s play. Someone needs to bring it back, someone or some band.
Willie Chavez Nah they just stopped using instruments, stopped using multiple methods of recording and did everything through a computer. No longer is there a cool riff/progression with a cool melody, and everything revolves around repetition. Songwriting ability has become more simple and most songs nowadays don’t sound good stripped down with just the vocals and bass/guitar/piano. Timbre has died, real music has died, but someone will bring it back mark my words.
Every time I’ve seen Queen in concert, I’ve left the venue totally entertained, like I had just seen a Broadway musical or something. No one like. Freddie will we ever see again! RIP dear Freddie!
Not many people know other musicians who performed at Live Aid, but almost everybody knows Queen was in there and stole the show. Yes, Queen performance at the day is that legendary.
Queen cared about giving their best for all their performances. Even till the end Freddie would drag himself out of bed to sing the last album as he was near the end of his life. And Queen practiced and planned this performance so all the hits would stream perfectly as they were only given 18-20 minutes before the electrical got turned off. And Freddie was a true showman which I believe he got from his ballet friend. Plus Freddie likes to take the lead with the band and with the audience. He sang to the very back of the crowd so everyone felt connected. Plus, his voice was so unique and clear and he knew how to project that after all his past huge performances. Brazil was 100,000 people! And to think he had a sore throat in this performance! And the songs they wrote really made people feel good. Queen members are scholarly and that shows in how they checked off all points to give the best!
The vocal improvisation of Freddie at 7:15 of video or so was amazing, almost like giving the large audience few voice lessons from a master. It was amazing as it demonstrated the range of his voice. Fans of other bands were there, and suddenly these additional people became Queen fans too after Live-Aid concert.
The choices they made for their performance was like an adventure. There was a beginning, middle and end. You felt like you had been on a journey with them. Thankfully its on video so future generations and go on this journey with us. RIP, Freddie!!
3 additional things that made them great: (1) no lull between songs, (2) their songs were quick-paced and (3) they prepared by practicing and timing (few others did)
tom johnson I was lucky to have been there. I'd seen them perform live only the previous Sept. I knew they would be fantastic, they were simply letting the rest of the world know!
I watched it with my two older brothers and my mother. When Queen came out my brother looked over at me and said "now your about to see rock & roll history, this is one of the greatest bands ever". We all just watched in silence because it was so flawless. My brother was a Zepplin fan. I will never forget watching the show that day. In just complete awe.
They weren't on a hiatus. They had just finished a concert tour 2 months before Live Aid. Besides rehearsing, Freddie could go out and give 100% of all his energy for 20 short minutes, because he was use to playing in front of stadiums for 2 hours. 20 minutes was a cake walk.
Not to mention that they rehearsed that set down to the second! There was no uncertainty or tension there that day at all. Queen were the best prepped band there, and they knew it.
@@cristiona22 And Rio at the start of the year, infact I'm sure that was part of their works tours so I'm pretty sure from mid 84 to 85 they were performing.
Queen was the light in that concert, they exceeded that performance. They solidified themselves as the masters of music at that point. And to make it even shocking, as said, it wasnt even a Queen concert, this is a General public concert that various artists were also booked to perform at. The second Freddie said "everybody" to the crowd and they sang and clapped in unison during Radio GaGa, he basically hypnotized that crowd and created a moment that will stand on top as the best in music history. To make it even better, they were performing in their backyard and at that point, you cant touch them. They were on top
I like the narrator, yes he stated the obvious but he simply just spoke his opinion and knew most all had viewed the fabulous Queen 20 minutes of music perfection. Thanks for pointing out the things that get lost in the hysteria of watching the performance. I would love to hear more of your sincere opinions. Thank you.
My opinion, Queen , each of them were perfectionists. They argued because they were so in to being their personal best which caused them all to take it farther... other artists, bands did not practice and dedicate each second together to reach another "new sound" ideas to make them even more unique. NEVER CAN A BAND BE AS GREAT AS QUEEN, FREDDIE IS THE KEY THAT OPENED THAT MAGICAL MUSICAL EXPERIENCE DOOR AND SOMETIME IN ANOTHER PLACE FREDDIE I PRAY WE HEAR YOUR VOICE SINGING W/THE ANGELS AND REUNITE FOR A BEAUTIFUL QUEEN BALLAD! I am fighting cancer and found Queen via hearing of the movie Boho RAPSODY. Queen was a bit before my time. Freddie's voice.. rock, soul, jazz, Opera and all has motivated me and opened my ears to music again. So healing music is! Freddie's sickness makes me feel a connection to many lyrics he sings!!! IF I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY I WOULD GO TO MONTREUX NOW. I worked in finance, sales and marketing together and was a workaholic especially after my husband died of cancer yrs ago. Cancer does not discriminate and loves money. I have researched Queen so much and all of them loved Montreux and the pictures are beautiful. This was the first time that Jim (Hutton) had seen Freddie perform live and I think that was another reason that Freddie wanted it to be perfect - and it was!
I remember Live Aid well. I was in my early 20s. I watched a good deal of it live on MTV, listened to other parts of it on a radio I carried with me while I was not home during part of the day, recorded much of it on blank cassettes(hey... 80s, no DVRs or tablets, or smart phones, lol). It was replayed several times on MTV, rewatched it, too. It was all fantastic, but Queen topped them all!
Interesting, It must have been quite something to see such an iconic event back then. I'm saying that because I am too young to understand what the 80s were like (with Live Aid).
It was awesome. There was a lot of buildup and excitement over this event, thanks to MTV and all of the news about the dire tragedy of the Ethiopian famine, and of course the success of the Band Aid Christmas single the year before (I still own the copy I bought new back then). I am so glad I was in my late teens and the bulk of my 20s during the 80s, mainly because of the pop culture of the time, particularly the music and movies. Live Aid was the first benefit concert of its kind ever, it set a standard others have tried to follow in their own way over the years. And it is true that this iconic performance was pivotal in revitalizing Queen's career. They still had many fans, but their music wasn't as much in the forefront of relevance as it had been. Obviously, it is a high watermark in rock music and pop culture history. There is a documentary on Live Aid you can see here on RUclips.
I Saul live aid on television when I was an Upcoming senior in high school. I am a singer, actress, & musician myself. I’ve always been a huge fan of Queen & THAT What is the best moment in music history that I have ever witnessed! Was absolutely incredible. The music and the performance was extraordinary,! Freddie played with the camera on him just as he did with the audience. He loved to conduct the audience. Watching him perform was like going to vocal class.
Quote:- “Freddie knew how to do a live show”!!! You’re bluffing!!!!😅😅😂 at Live Aid Freddie ate the audience! Chewed ‘em all up! Not once second was wasted in the performance and the band blasted out the hits like Napoleons artillery!
I remember watching the Live Aid concert and enjoying all the different bands... And then, Queen played their set. We all looked around at each other and a collective sigh crept out and we immediately said, "That's gonna wind up being the best performance of the day!" We may have been understating Queen's performance a bit.
I remember watching live aid with a bunch of friends. Owing up in the 70s, then early 80s, I didn't anyone who wasn't a fan. The band was touring during live aid, and they were not broken up, or on a hiatus. You got your information from the movie. I saw them in 84' (I believe it was) at Madison square gardens and their shows were always blow a ways. Don't under cut Queen, and don't act like they were some kind of under dog. You never saw them live did you, you didn't grow up with Queen... Just let it go
Freddie was an all out entertainer. And he had a great voice. The band was magnificent that night. He had the crowd in his hands. Don’t forget the song writing. Oh my!
That was the most amazing form of music and entertainment I have ever witnessed! Queen will live forever as they can never be forgotten ! The song list was perfect in its order , not to mention Freddie’s vocals were spot on. It truly was the WOW moment for the world to witness. RIP Freddie!!! You are so loved and admired! You guys were meant to be the QUEEN of the world and no one or group can compare.
Joanna Godfrey he hasn’t a clue. “Many people thought they were past it.” Bloody prat. He either wasn’t born or was too young even to have the faintest grasp of what Queen was & is. It was in the early to mid eighties that Queen began to resonate with me & so many others.
I watched it on my TV and here it is 35 years later and I still bounce up and down and rock to the music and sing along and clap my hands (I forgot to mention, I am now 70). Some people grew up listening to Queen --- some of us still do. Glad also that Brian and Roger found Adam Lambert and have kept Queen alive and going strong. I know, Adam is no Freddie, but he has come into his own doing Queen performances. Freddie and Queen are legacies that will live on forever and I am so glad that the younger generations are getting a chance with the Movie - Bo Rhap. Oh, thank God for RUclips.
I remember this so well, and it has always remained my strongest memory of the Live Aid concert. The answer as to why it was such a great performance is actually pretty simple. They were an act that engaged the audience. Other acts performed for the audience, but Queen made the audience part of their act.
I have my detractors but my opinion nods to Queen's best performance at Wembley in '86. This however, smoked every other act for live aid. Mercury's musical inclusion of the fans can't be underestimated either. Everyone can see for themselves what having a good time does but to be invited to join in and be a part of it! The day began as Queen against how many other acts? Whatever it was. It ended as all those acts up against Queen and 72,000 people. Do the math! 👊
You DO NOT see that performance and claim "they werent well known at that time"!! Wembley in its ENTIRETY were clap clapping in unison during Radio Gaga!! Not a few claps and it caught on, the whole damn place was at work! Queen admitted to being nervous and the interviewer was rude enough to ask them why they thought they should be there. Implying the bands future was based on this performance. Freddie answered it with class by reminding her they were asked to perform amongst the greatest musicians of all time and then walked out and proved it
I was at live aid, I was talking to one of the sound engineers and his camera man who told me, Queen will sound and look brilliant now we have the lights and sound worked out, because for most of the day they were trying to get all these things right, they said with the amount of people there and the movement with people not wanting to see some bands but wanting to see others this was a little difficult but they have now worked it out. Awsome.
Why is voice over guy imitating 70's TV presenter Alan Whicker. Couldnt stop laughing. Freddie's Dr advised him not to do this. He ignored him. Ultimate Showman. Charisma. Incredible vocal range. It's textbook example of how Freddie could work a crowd & kill it, live & no auto tune.
Their performance at Live Aid was ELECTRIFYING⚡️💫 .Freddie Mercury lives forever after his performance there. He was a solar flare and always will be!⚡️💫☄️✨🌟
What struck me was that when you thought his voice was going to fail him (he was clearly struggling with some voice/throat issues), he would belt out an incredible note with that iconic, Freddie growl or rasp. To be able to project his voice over that crowd and everything around him, as well as being able to sustain that level of energy over the 20 plus minutes, is unbelievable and inspiring. That's what made this performance so special in my eyes, the way that Freddie and the guys fed off of the energy of the crowd, who in turn fed of Queen's energy.
I have watched this live on TV when I was still a kid but I'm then very familiar with Queen's songs because my uncle played their album (queens greatest hits) at least 2x/week. And I have learn to love every song in that album. I enjoyed their performance then but I couldn't have guessed that it will become the stuff of legend.. The greatest band performance of all.
Simple, back in those days music was pure talent. Freedie was majestic♥️ his frontmanship was the best, no question about it.They were gifted talents and they also practiced a lot to make it perfect. Charismatic 🤘 & humble to each other.. I remember when they were introduced to rock and roll hall of fame .. Taylor and Brian May both invited Freddie's mother to take the award🙏 that's how much they respect , love Freddie ♥️ . Music spread love.
What made the performance so great ? The fact that each of the band members were and still are some of the best musicians ever to have lived. Mercurys stage presence is electric and spellbinding. He was a natural born performer, comfortable in his own skin and loved to share his voice with the world. He was, is and always will be one of the greatest musicians to have lived. The day he died was one of the saddest moments in my life. Long Live Queen!!
always said to my girlfriend, freddie is the only man I would've gone gay in an instant. he just is that mesmerizing, and I couldn't be straighter yo 😂
I was old enough to watch it live. I was not a fan I was only about 10 at the time. But oh my goodness he had me hooked, his stage presence blew other artists out of the water. He was an incredible singer and showman, he got the crowd involved, his voice was strong and he sang songs that people knew and loved. He also made the audience feel empowered with songs like 'We are the champions'.
I appreciate the effort put into this video. But I can hear where there are a lot of errors in the narration and the facts aren’t stated as such and some are incorrect. This sounds more like opinion. Freddie was known as a theatrical performer. It was voted the best rock performance of all time. Freddie picked Queens time slot meticulously and calculated it perfectly. They rehearsed like crazy. The set list was created to be perfection. They weren’t falling off at this point. They just reminded people why they are as popular as they are. Edit: the songs were created with the audience in mind. Freddie could rule a crowd of millions with a slight move of the hand. No front man had his charisma and control and command of a crowd.
Bet you never saw Slade on stage? If they'd been on that bill and Queen had to follow them, somehow i don't think Queen would've shone quite so brightly. Slade played 3 festivals and stole the show at all of 'em.
@wildcatter63 Correction my friend They had two international hits(if your talking America) in their own right, 'My Oh My' & 'Run Runaway' and a back catalogue of hits that covered everywhere bar America. Plus by the time of Live Aid, Quiet Riot had two massive hits in the states with Slade songs 'Cum On Feel The Noize' & 'Mama Weer All Crazee Now'. It would have been good for 'em to show the States how those two songs should be delivered. Besides, there is a world of music lovers out there, not everything revolves around America you know. Seems you aren't aware of how popular a band Slade were?
@wildcatter63 As i said before not everything revolves around America. I know Slade would have gone down a storm in the UK. Remember the bigger half of 'Live Aid' was at Wembley in England where Slade were the biggest band out there in the early seventies. The people in England know all their hits, as does everyone across Europe, Australia and Russia. 6 number 1's, 4 number 2's, 20 singles in the top twenty. They would've been embraced everywhere except the States, but let's face it America didn't want to party in the early seventies. It took 10yrs for 'em to catch up with bands like Kiss, Motley Crue, Quiet Riot etc openly copying Slade. Too busy bombing Vietnam to to actually enjoy anything else, a bit like today really, bombing the hell out of the Middle East on behalf of Israel.
@wildcatter63 You're just exaggerating my first comment. I never said Slade would put on a better performance than Queen. Also Led Zeppelin were never going to whip up a crowd(they couldn't even whip up decent note that day), terrible. Both Queen and Slade played for their fans, not at them as most bands do, and wrote the songs to get them involved, that's why they stand out from the rest. The Doors ain't the Doors and The Beatles ain't the Beatles either, besides didn't Americans have a great time burning their Beatles records back in the day? And did the same with your disco records as well so i heard, you really are funny folk :-) Also the remark about America and Vietnam was an observation about the misery that was felt at the time, that and Watergate, as witnessed by the people who were touring with Slade in the early 70's. And one last thing, you can't be that much of a Slade fan if you don't even know the titles of their songs or how they're spelt, that's just failing in basic stuff. 'Mama Weer All Crazee Now' 'Cum On Feel The Noize'
Together Queen was a force to be reckoned with! They commanded the crowd and the crowd couldn't get enough! Fabulous Frontman Freddy always put on a amazing show! I was at Live Aid and it was the greatest day of my life. It was the day that U2 became world famous and of course, it was the day that Queen tore the roof off a stadium with 72,000 people.
And Phil Collins played both venues via the Concord.
Bono is too pompous!!!!

How lucky you are!
@@fastforwardvideos2752 "Then we'll punch a hole through the sky!" I love that quote soooo much! It shows Queen have no boundaries.
How did you feel about Led Zepplin that day?
No one ..no one ..can perform and engage a audiance like QUEEN..AND NEVER WILL!!!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
These guys did not just rock up and go on, it was practice, practice, practice, Freddie knew how big this was and he wanted to be perfect and they were.
I look on ur channel and i see “freddie mercury” condom and im like wtf
So true and no auto tune
Freddie *was* a true performer 😊. The studio must have felt so confining to him even though recording a song. The stage at Live Aid was just the right size! All that room to perform. There’ll never be another Freddie Mercury ❤️
The answer is simple; They rehearsed the whole set. Other artists just turned up and hoped for the best. They were punished by Queen.
baccas66 Yes, Led Zeppelin were atrocious.
I think that’s a naive assumption. A lot of the performers at Live Aid were well rehearsed and turned in great shows.
@@fenderfetish well if duran duran, phil collins, led zeppelin and the who rehearsed, I'd hate to see them just turn up and play.
@@baccas66 Fair call....but you only cite 4 examples. Over 70 acts performed.
@@fenderfetish As someone who was there at Wembley. There weren't many highlights. U2 put on a good show. But very few of the acts actually bothered to rehearse and time their 20 minute slot.
A masterclass in singing and performing. Love them.
Mind blowing performance. They put everything into it for live aid and it showed in their performance! 😊
Amazing stage presence. No one can touch Freddie's performance. He looked Amazing. Fabulous
Of course. He was the bigger the better again and again. So amazing performer ! RIP. Miss you so much Darling
Let's not 4get totally hot,,,💖,,on top of everything else
And the tight jeans didn't hurt 😉
I was a huge Queen fan in the 70's, in fact they were my favorite band. I was lucky enough to have seen them live a number of times. Let me make the answer to the question easier, the reason they were so good at Live-Aid is because they were always that good and anyone that has seen them live would tell you the same.
@John John that’s a surprisingly bitchy comment based on the fact that it is a video based on why queen were good at live aid. Not to mention unnecessary. Also no one gives a fuck about what you think and no ones is going to like your comment.
@John John also learn how to spell
freddie was the greatest Musician of all the time ❤
It drives me mad how everybody says that in 1985 Queen were forgotten or irrelevant.
Totally agree! I can remember very well the years in High School when Queen was very popular (I graduated in ‘84)!!
True, the album they were promoting in '84/'85, The Works, had 4 major hits! They may have had internal strife-what band doesn't?, but they weren't exactly on their uppers.
yeah, and its gotten worse after the movie "bohemian rhapsody", because dumbasses take that movie to be a documentary
Agree I was 20 and I knew exactly who they were and all their songs
All I can say is that I loved Queen 30 odd years ago and love their albums still. Freddie Mercury and Queen music transcends time. Not to mention loving their music played at hockey games, weddings and parties.
In answer to your question. Three parts.
A) they are so we'll tuned together as a group. 4 fantastic musicians who all wrote hit singles all contributed to the band.
B) Freddie made every single person at Wembley that day part of that concert...even Joe blogs who had the very back seat row z. And finally
C) they just nailed it on the day!
Provided; Freddie was not well that day. He had throat infection, not suppose to sing.
@@littlebigman6957 Thank you so much for that information!!!!! I was wondering who that awesome piano player the extra guitar player was at Live Aid. He doesn't get enough recognition for his performance that day.
@@KM1980Musicit was a pleasure . He is the 5th queen member as opposed to the 5th Beatle
And their manager cranked up the volume
Thank you for taking the time to lay out the greatest performance of rock history. I still watch the 22 minutes in awe.
It’ll never get old ! ❤️
Radio Gaga is the most amazing song live. The atmosphere in an arena when 20,000 people are clapping along at the same time is just insane.
Closer to 100,000
Around 100,000. Ray
..amazing queen. I watched it live thru mtv....wow
72,000
20,000? Lol
True.@@barontaylor7139
YEEESSS!!
Yes
And call everyone dahrling.
Rock & Roll was born in the 50s, grew up in the 60s, matured in the 70s, and then hit its absolute zenith on July 13, 1985 at Live Aid.
And it's all been pretty much downhill since then.
At least you can still listen to the best songs
Rick Kinki - As someone born in 1949, I got to enjoy every stage. Saw both The Beatles and Queen live as well as a flock of British Invasion groups. Music has circled the drain ever since. Sad! :(
Red Hot Chilli Peppers & Nirvana were great bands past 1985. Granted they weren’t on the same level in terms of timbre and musicianship though. Queen, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin from 60s-mid80s make music today look like child’s play. Someone needs to bring it back, someone or some band.
@@tommywayne9811 it's as if musicians have run out of ideas. I Listen to music today and that is what I gather.
Have you been to any of thier concerts?
I think Queens performance was incredible! It gives me goosebumps! I just love Queen. Can’t get enough of Freddie and Queen! Liked the video also.
JUST WATCH HIM , HE LOOKED BEAUTIFUL IT WAS THE GREATEST..
Brilliant discussion on the best singer and band the world has ever seen. There can be only one, and it was QUEEN 🎹🎤🎸🖕🎼
I see what you did there and I like it!! With blood of kings
Amen
There can be only one and his name is Freddie Mercury. Long live Queen!
That's what made Freddie so great besides being an amazing singer he was an entertainer, a performer.
The best ever. Xxx
3 additional things that made them great: (1) no lull between songs, (2) their songs were quick-paced and (3) they prepared by practicing and timing (few others did)
FREDDIE IS A LEGEND... AND QUEEN IS LEGEND ❤️✌🏼
It was amazing and I Love how the people in the audience was participating
.
I saw it on TV and you could feel it all through the set. Wish I could've been at wembly for those twenty minutes.
tom johnson I was lucky to have been there.
8 months in the future..had a moment when I read the comment! I did not remember writing that.
They sure were not on a hiatus I agree. They’d toured Aus NZ and think maybe Japan before doing Live Aid
Not to mention that they rehearsed that set down to the second! There was no uncertainty or tension there that day at all. Queen were the best prepped band there, and they knew it.
And they had their sound engineers level the sound system before they started.
Gave me tingles inside reading your comment. Thanks for sharing
Yes, I AGREE W/WHAT FREDDIE OR ALL 4 SAID, IF YOU WANT PEACE AND SOUL GO TO MONTREUX... MUSIC is healing. sorry for ramble

Simply epic performance and a stroke of genius playing shortened versions of their songs to get more songs in the allotted time on stage instead of jut two or three full length songs
Here's my two penths worth. The moment Mercury hit the first note on the piano it was over for the rest as the question becomes who or what tops Bohemian Rhapsody. Answers on a post card.

This made me cry. I've never been to a live concert since the Freddie Mercury Tribute at Wembley.
Yesterday was Nov 24. Freddie we love and miss you always. YOU ARE LEGEND !!!
Love this video! Bring on more, love, love, loved everything about it. Love Queen an miss you Freddie Mercury! Will never be replaced by anyone!
Queen were the best performance of the whole day UK and USA, they smashed it.
When you have four perfectionist you're bound to have disagreements, that's what the band so good. I love QUEEN and especially FREDDIE.
I remember watching the Live Aid concert and enjoying all the different bands... And then, Queen played their set.
We all looked around at each other and a collective sigh crept out and we immediately said, "That's gonna wind up being the best performance of the day!" We may have been understating Queen's performance a bit.
Fine arts: What made queen so amazing?
Me: Duh it’s queen
I saw Queen in ‘75!!! They owned the auditorium even back then 👍🏼🎸
It’s no wonder why. Queen was the Greatest live performance band in the world!! And Freddie’s voice was completely unmatchable!!
I was there, and let me tell you, Freddie could have started a friggin riot with a little nod.....😎

Just let it go
You Tell Em!!!! People who were the same age and lived through it yes...you were there😎
Queen had the audience involved in his music. That’s why they loved him
Freddie was an all out entertainer. And he had a great voice. The band was magnificent that night. He had the crowd in his hands. Don’t forget the song writing. Oh my!
Freddie Mercury is real entertainer and knew how to engage the audience. It takes skill to do that.
You guys were meant to be the QUEEN of the world and no one or group can compare.
what an annoying voice the narrator has, he seems to have very little clue that Queen rehursed for a week and gave it their all
Joanna Godfrey You're right. They had played to over a million people in 1985. The narrator is clueless.
This was pretty much a copy paste of the Queen segment of the Live Aid documentary. Just changed the words around a bit like copying homework haha.
Ikr I thought it was Loyd Grossman at first!
Joanna Godfrey he hasn’t a clue. “Many people thought they were past it.” Bloody prat. He either wasn’t born or was too young even to have the faintest grasp of what Queen was & is. It was in the early to mid eighties that Queen began to resonate with me & so many others.

Freddie may have been a Queen in his personal life......But he was a King on Stage!!
TowManDave00 cant a queen be as great or better than a king?
No he was a queen off stage and a God on it that man knew how to do his stuff
“Some think it was the greatest live performance of the 20th century”
We KNOW it was the greatest live performance EVER
queen just embarrassed all the other performers 😍🔥
When you can make Zep,, Bowie, etc. look boring you know that you’re at the very top!

I am impressed at Queens performance, I watch this everyday and it puts me in a great mood.
Their performance at Live Aid was ELECTRIFYING⚡️💫 .Freddie Mercury lives forever after his performance there. He was a solar flare and always will be!⚡️💫☄️✨🌟
A solar flare.... Yes.
Pien Pakvis Yes👍
What struck me was that when you thought his voice was going to fail him (he was clearly struggling with some voice/throat issues), he would belt out an incredible note with that iconic, Freddie growl or rasp. To be able to project his voice over that crowd and everything around him, as well as being able to sustain that level of energy over the 20 plus minutes, is unbelievable and inspiring. That's what made this performance so special in my eyes, the way that Freddie and the guys fed off of the energy of the crowd, who in turn fed of Queen's energy.
Incredible!! Freddie Mercury is one of greatest voices of all time!!
I'm not even a big fan of Queen and that's the greatest live preformance I've ever seen. Radio Gaga was Simply amazing.
He was so engaging, commanding, my eyes did not leave him for two seconds maybe one. 👑
Mercury rocks!
He was fabulous!
OMG, WHAT A PERFORMANCE!!! I WATCH AT LEAST 10 TIMES A DAY!!!!! AND THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING WHY HOW GREAT THEY WERE!!!
Will always be the greatest to ever grace the stage IMO!! Been a fan since the late 70s, I only wish I could had seen them live!!
Freddie looked like a Greek God at live aid
He was gorgeous 💓❤️
always said to my girlfriend, freddie is the only man I would've gone gay in an instant. he just is that mesmerizing, and I couldn't be straighter yo 😂
Which one of the Greek gods?
.
Brian May has recently been interviwed saying that he felt their performance was not one of their best.
And did the same with your disco records as well so i heard, you really are funny folk :-)
Also the remark about America and Vietnam was an observation about the misery that was felt at the time, that and Watergate, as witnessed by the people who were touring with Slade in the early 70's.
And one last thing, you can't be that much of a Slade fan if you don't even know the titles of their songs or how they're spelt, that's just failing in basic stuff.
'Mama Weer All Crazee Now'
'Cum On Feel The Noize'
Together Queen was a force to be reckoned with! They commanded the crowd and the crowd couldn't get enough! Fabulous Frontman Freddy always put on a amazing show! I watched LiveAid on TV and Queen knocked my socks off - I never forgot it and that performance was one of the first things I looked for when RUclips started up. Enjoyed your commentary.
Why doesn't anyone else see what I see. He tells you in his songs. Open your eyes and ears people. Don't let his name die in vain. He stood strong in his faith till the end. God bless you Freddy!!!
