All over the world is right! 🇬🇧
I fell in love with a girl in science class, because we both saw & loved Orange Crush, which had played on The Chart Show, the previous Saturday morning.

I first played an REM record as a 20 year old college radio DJ in 1983.

Not if you lived in the Chicago area. WXRT (a commercial FM album-rock station) played REM from day one. And the station is still playing ‘em.

Maybe earlier stuff was on college radio, but by 1987, songs from Document were on commercial radio.

@@mental63 How 'XRT has managed to avoid corporate programming is one of the great mysteries of life. What an institution that station is.

WLIR/WDRE on Long Island played them all the time. Fall On Me, Radio Free Europe, Superrman, Driver 8 were staples.
