Got the OB1 500. Amazing amp. The clean is tight and punchy and the distortion ranges from subtle to ferocious. The only issue i have is something that was picked up on in the video - the further you dial the blend, the louder the overall volume gets. This means that if you want to punch in the drive halfway through a song (during a guitar solo, for example) then you either have a noticeable volume boost that drowns out the rest of the band or you have to keep the "blend" control on so low that you can't really hear the drive. It's not necessarily a problem if you want to play the entire song with distortion on it ( Ace of Spades, for example) - you simply dial down the main volume control to compensate (although even this can be a bit hit and miss)- but it's a real pain if you just want to punch it in during certain sections. This issue could be easily avoided if Orange had included some sort of Drive level control, so that you could dime the blend AND the distortion amount to get the optimum sound but then bring the overall level into line with your clean sound. Maybe for the OB1 mk 2?
my understanding is that the gain section only affects the mids and trebles of the signal, so you never get any low-end flub. that's probably why the sound is more instantly usable :)
I had the chance to play an Orange Crush bass 100 combo amp and before had been set on buying a new hartke rig. it COMPLETELY changed my mind. I just fell in love with that amazing creamy tone that the Orange heads and amps achieve. he true bonus of this vid is getting to see Lee look incredibly uncomfortable playing the drum machine. lmao great vid, Guys. Thanks for the overview, especially on the isobaric bass cab.
A word on isobaric, for those interested. The two speakers are arranged either like a clamshell or in tandem (one behind the other). The pair are then used as you would a single speaker - but with effectively double the cone mass. This means you can get exactly the same bass response from a cabinet half the size. Hence the powerful bass from a small cabinet. The ported design further improves low bass power output compared with a sealed (or open-back) box.
@@Uygkuyfkutfkytfkutfv You could put the 2 drivers side by side in a box twice as big, and you'd get the same frequency response - and it would gain 6dB in loudness. But the box would be twice as big. Small boxes and loud, low bass are uneasy bedfellows...
It`s always a pleasure to see you Nathan and Lee. Nathan I`ve just brought an O Bass off the back of Nathan playing one. So if you get a change can you do another updated review...💙👊😎💙👊😎
Cliff Burton used a shit tonne of effects on his bass he used distortion fuzz and wah on his bass big muff and a morley fuzz wah if i remember correctly
For budget basses they really nailed it. I'm not a fan of P Bass pickups, yet they managed to make them sound great in this bass. I also give them props for trying out an original look that managed to not be ugly.
It is Soo nice to actually find, especially an Orange amp that really does sound like some Entwistle bi amping and is not completely fuzzed out like the usual Orange amps! I never like Orange until now. To have a clean bass and to THEN ADD some higher end on top is so Old School and is fantastic! Thanks so much! I actually got a power head 2 channel and was going to put it through FX - 1 Alembic to split, but now that I have the Orange OB1 300 I'm thinking maybe I have enough of that sound??? Thanks guy! Great bass player too... just hate all fuzz and I think he does too... ha ha... Richard
Orange should be charged for the publicity of that intro,I've had this bass bouncing around my head about getting one, the orange finish made it look cheap, now I see theres a burst or a black finish I'm sold,it sounded awesome , the symbols on the amps look cool too
I'll add my vote to the blindfold Fender bass challenge. I also have noticed Nathan favors the Dimension for recent reviews, maybe that's a neck profile or just a humbucker thing, so I would love to see a comparison between those and some similar Music Mans perhaps.
Speaking of Royal Blood, if you want something a little more metal-y but still bass driven (I think they had a guitarist on their previous album though) Big Business is worth checking out they're a bass and drums + vocals only band with the occasional keys and guitar thrown in
Yes - the initial run sold out on the day it arrived, & the next lot isn't due till Sept, but as soon as we can we'll feature the Flea bass (its awesome by the way!)
is that Ruby's dog tags i here jingling at 4.20 ? we never see her on video like we did with Lola. its time to release the Andertons tone hound on the public +CaptAnderton ..... you know it makes sense !
Yes, he plays guitar in Level 42, and he also stands in for Norman Watt-Roy in the Blockheads when Norman is busy elsewhere. He also plays in a more proggy sounding band called Frost* (see the t shirt he is wearing in this video). Brilliant musician.
+Gareth Walkner While he is a great bass player, he noodles around too much for me. I would prefer more grooving and showing some useful tones for working bassist not the noodling bassist.
+Dago 64 I gotta say after finishing the video he did do a lot more working lines than he normally does. And don't worry one day you'll learn the power of the one too.
Bi-amping is the secret of people like John Entwhistle-The WHO, Chris Squire-YES, DUG Pinnick-King's X; amazing bassists and tonegods. I normally enjoy these Anderson reviews, but not so much this one, about 21minutes too long.

Attenuator
That has the best overdrive/fuzz of any of the amps reviewed so far, sounds really usable rather than just an afterthought.
I realize I'm kinda off topic but do anyone know a good site to stream newly released movies online?
@Colin Bruce flixportal xD
@Zakai Makai thank you, I signed up and it seems like a nice service :D I appreciate it!
@Colin Bruce glad I could help xD

Surely two drivers in tandem can’t pressurise in the same way two independent ones could?

That Drive in the beginning was crunchy as hell!
Love it!

I love how terrified the Captain looked playing drums XD
Cliff Burton used a shit tonne of effects on his bass he used distortion fuzz and wah on his bass
big muff and a morley fuzz wah if i remember correctly
Thank you guys for doing bass type stuff! We really appreciate it!!
I'm writing this here too.
What about a blindfold Fender bass challenge?
For budget basses they really nailed it. I'm not a fan of P Bass pickups, yet they managed to make them sound great in this bass. I also give them props for trying out an original look that managed to not be ugly.
Nathan is great in this! Love his playing.-Chris Christian🎸☘

Richard
I love that synth bass tone you can get 😲
All I can say is I wish they would have done the combo, great demo and it makes me want to save my money for one of these. Great demo guys!!
These videos don't do Nathan's playing justice. Saw him with Frost* last week in Cambridge, absolutely fantastic gig!
If you want back-in-the-day bassists with guitar-style drive on top of proper bass, how about Chris Squire of Yes?
Orange should be charged for the publicity of that intro,I've had this bass bouncing around my head about getting one, the orange finish made it look cheap, now I see theres a burst or a black finish I'm sold,it sounded awesome , the symbols on the amps look cool too
Maybe you can do super affordable (but not shaffordable) bass amps?
That's how I won an OB1-300 from the guys at Reverb! You're my only hope
I'll add my vote to the blindfold Fender bass challenge. I also have noticed Nathan favors the Dimension for recent reviews, maybe that's a neck profile or just a humbucker thing, so I would love to see a comparison between those and some similar Music Mans perhaps.

Can't forget Om too.
Mike Rodio Never listened to Om but I like sleep so I'm gonna check these guys out, cheers for the heads up
Death From Above worth a listen too
That intro was sweet
Aguilar Tone Hammer vs Orange OB1?
Wohhh beautiful intro ! What Kind of switch and harminizer (intro) are using ? I’m glad to reproduce this sound ❤
So rob and the captain did a video about star wars guitar rig, and i say that this here mighty amp is OB1- CAN-OB along with the GIBSON EBO bass 😃
Footswitch no longer included.
Great vid, great playing!
Are you guys planning to review the Fender Flea Jazz Bass? It got me excited the instant I saw the announcement.
Cheers!
Yes - the initial run sold out on the day it arrived, & the next lot isn't due till Sept, but as soon as we can we'll feature the Flea bass (its awesome by the way!)
Yess, please! Can't wait! Choosing the Mexican made really made it reachable!
Haha, "it's awesome by the way", I see what You did there...
Yep, can't wait to hear Nathan play some flea licks
is that Ruby's dog tags i here jingling at 4.20 ? we never see her on video like we did with Lola. its time to release the Andertons tone hound on the public +CaptAnderton ..... you know it makes sense !
You guys should do a shootout of different types, and brands of bass pickups
Any thoughts on why the 500 has "more bass" compared to the 300?
I love the bassline from rapper's delight
So underrated
You mean the bassline from Good Times by Chic
+ModestEgg Basically most famous basslines
I came to hear Lee's theories on porn star woes
I live 15 minutes from 2 guitar shops but would much rather watch this than drive into Swindon!!!!!
Only now that I've seen Nathan with that t-shirt, have I realized who he is.
God... I need this. Sounds so good.
24:33 made my night!
Why is Nathan always looking to the horizon? hahahaa
00:45 Ungh! So filthy, I love it.
Nathan, that was a nice dig at Pete! LOL!
Does Nate love the Dimension bass that much or is it the designated review bass?
When are you guys reviewing the Darth V8R line of amps?
Just after the Vox CP30 video...
+CaptAnderton help me OB1 your my only hope
+CaptAnderton can we please see a review of the Ibanez artcore bass ?
+James Allen oh god yes , those are just gobsmackingly stunning
I play clean and loud at gigs can this amps handle cleans well
do all the colours come with the two scratch plates?
Lee man how's the Guildford handbook?
The captain is going to master all the instruments: yesterday guitar, today drums and tomorrow???
A Nathan/Dave video would be nice
Yes
Is that a Big Stubby I see Nate using?
Frost*!
He gigged with Level 42. So this is Nathan King, Mark's brother right?
Yes, he plays guitar in Level 42, and he also stands in for Norman Watt-Roy in the Blockheads when Norman is busy elsewhere. He also plays in a more proggy sounding band called Frost* (see the t shirt he is wearing in this video). Brilliant musician.
all about that bass
OB1 kenobi LOOOOOOLL
tbh id rather be sat chatting with lee n danish pete than playing a gig to 11,000 people
Holy shit that intro 😳
Can you shootout the cry baby bass wah vs the cry baby bass wah mini please?
I have a Gibson SG 61 reissue tuned to drop a#....
What would it sound like through this things?
probably like a Gibson SG 61 reissue tuned to drop a# through an orange ob-1
Hi Lee
what bass is he holding during after the playing intro?
Fender Dimension
Holy shit. Nathan RIPPED the intro
in 28 minutes of video they didn't even slap the obass. what a shame.....
Thank God. The distortion was bad enough....
Meaty ballsy jurassic lovelyness :-p ta guys ;-)
Ooh! I'd be careful with Star Wars samples...!?
This seems like lots of fun to play at home but in a band i feel like the guitar player wpuld get mad
Bass + distortion = A bloody racket.
Captain, does your beard grow out ginger!?!?
Why don't you just get Dave to do these reviews? It'd be better.
Nah. Nathan's a really good bassist! Variation is key.
+Gareth Walkner While he is a great bass player, he noodles around too much for me. I would prefer more grooving and showing some useful tones for working bassist not the noodling bassist.
You must be a boring person that i would not like to know IRL :)
+Dago 64 I gotta say after finishing the video he did do a lot more working lines than he normally does. And don't worry one day you'll learn the power of the one too.
+Dago 64 😂 💁🏻

Sounds pretty flubby with out the drive in too me. don't like it.
would be nice with an ''all about that jazz' as well. not at lot of jazz demo's out there
absolutely butchered that first bassline
0:07 - Gabriel O pensador - 2345meia78
in 28:00 minutes i could go to a local music store and try it out myself.
Good for you must be handy living so close to a music shop.
Lord Fupa it was ironic....
You're just not funny.
Joey DH I wasn't trying to be funny
Jim Dragon Yeah whatever you say, just refrain from commenting this bullshit next time then.
first :)
Why? Why do that. no reason for this company to try to break into the instrument market. They build amps. Stay with what you know.
