I appreciate it! My hope is that people like you don’t have to try 100 different settings to nail down a good burn setting and hopefully help with some cool artwork on cups too! I really appreciate it.
I’ve tried both top and bottom and no I can’t get the whole cup to work. It can’t get through the paint on the lower half if it’s focused on that upper half.
Fantastic video! I'm just learning and have had success engraving darker colours but I haven't yet tackled a light colour or white! I'm am baffled by your settings. 46% power with the 20W? I say Baffled because for black on a yeti I do 60 mm/sec. And 100% power. Is the powder coating on a Stanley mug different?
Ya the powder coating on almost every brand is a bit different from the next! Crazy how different our settings are! I know that I did some different mugs and it was a big order so I was like 128 mm/s at 56 power I believe. Anything faster and it started getting slightly blurry edges.
@@adayinthelife9237 So after I watched your video I ran out to my shop and threw my test mug on the rotary, I use mm/sec so I left my speed at 60 mm/sec and then I adjusted all the other settings you had and set it to 46% power and let me tell you, it was the best burn yet, amazing! Crisp edges and bright shiny metal after some LA Awesome! Thanks again.
Thank you! I’m betting it would be really close if it wasn’t the exact same. I’d try one little piece of art at these settings and see how it turns out by itself, it would still look great, but you could adjust from there if you saw minor flaws to get it perfect!
Hello, I am looking to buy a laser mainly for doing tumblers. Would you recommend getting the D1 10w or 20w and what is difference of using the M1 10w??
I haven’t dealt with the M1, although I would recommend the 20 watt personally so you have more capability of doing cups faster. The 10 watt would work but it doesn’t have the same capabilities!
Have you been able to do a full wrap 40oz with the Xtool? I’m sitting on a few blank tumblers and I have an Xtool D1 Pro 20w and would love to learn this
I’ve done a quarter at a time but I haven’t had a full print just yet! I want to try it as well sometime! Let me know if you successfully knock out a whole cup!
Sometimes I have to cheat and have the feet mounted with just one screw instead of both. I would totally play around and find ways you can mount each product you use.
Ill have to pull up the light burn file again, part of what’s making it hard for you to find time frames has to do with a couple factors. How big the objects are, what direction the laser is going, the speed settings, and if a cross section has been implemented. Each can change the time frame by a significant amount. These strawberries shouldn’t take over 10 minutes though I’d say off the top of my head.
I would assume if you did a full run all at once you'd probably be looking somewhere from 1 to 2 hours of run time after all setup has been done. It's also a little tricky with the remaining handle tabs that are permanently mounted and stick out far enough to hit the head of the laser to do a full run.
Most of the designs took around 11 minutes if I remember, maybe an hour run time if you had the program set up perfectly? They offer that 40 watt laser that could speed up that time considerably.
What are the settings you have on there? I did a white cup but the black smeared on the cup and cup is not brown in the area. Even with the magic eraser
Did you clean it with the same cleaner or any cleaner before the eraser? Hopefully it’s been cleaned up by now? Normally I’m somewhere really close to 70mm/s at 36% Power. I adjust power slightly down for darker cups or other brands than yeti or Stanley, down to like 33% power.
This software is called light burn, it’s $60 - $120 depending on which version you get. I’d definitely say the purchase is worth it if you plan to use this laser a lot. On the other hand your free software can still do a lot though.
My big thing I’ve worked on lately is to get the power low enough that it barely burns the cup making for a very easy clean after. Since this video I’ve actually lowered my power levels down a bit. It was hard to clean just like you said. I don’t know of another way to clean and remove the burn easier just yet though.
Getting the setting dialed in is the key to easier cleanup. We you Bar Keepers Friend to clean our tumblers. If it is really bad we let it set on there for a few min and it does a great job cleaning up the metal.
Yes she created them by drawing on the iPad, then expecting them as a jpeg I believe the sent to my laptop which I drag and drop into the program. Good luck!
Yes! Let me see if I can bust out a quick “how to” soon on how I lay it all out. Sometimes I just do it one piece at a time and frame it in place to see how it looks against whats already there. I’ll do a video though! Thanks
I've started 5 of these cups videos. Yours is the only one I watched all the way through! Thanks for a great tutorial, with specifics!
I appreciate it! My hope is that people like you don’t have to try 100 different settings to nail down a good burn setting and hopefully help with some cool artwork on cups too! I really appreciate it.
Thank you for this video! Have you done a full wrap with the top/ bottom of the cup at the same time?
Thank you for sharing! Knocked out my first tumbler with your exact settings and it came out amazing. Much appreciated!
Glad it helped! Thank you!
That’s great video. I’m trying to do a mug for my wife but the handle does not come off. Is it possible to do with handle on ?
Yes you have probably found out already but you can put the rotator on a book or something to lift it high enough for the handle to clear the ground.
Thank you for this video. It was very helpful! ❤
I appreciate it, Thanks!
Thank you I have 60 of them to do taking the handle off makes it a lot easier.
Awesome!! Great to hear you’ve got some big orders coming in! Glad I could help out.
Are you able to engrave the entire cup or only the top with the 20w laser?
I’ve tried both top and bottom and no I can’t get the whole cup to work. It can’t get through the paint on the lower half if it’s focused on that upper half.
Nicely done. The artwork is awesome!
Thanks a bunch!

LOVE the art work! Do you think the power and speed would be the same using xtools software program?
Thank you! I’m betting it would be really close if it wasn’t the exact same. I’d try one little piece of art at these settings and see how it turns out by itself, it would still look great, but you could adjust from there if you saw minor flaws to get it perfect!

Weird question...Can you tell me how you have the rubber feet on the rotary mounted (which holes?)
Sometimes I have to cheat and have the feet mounted with just one screw instead of both. I would totally play around and find ways you can mount each product you use.
Hi , well done!, How many minutes did the 3 strawberrys take to engrave? Cant find any information about timelines on laser engraving.
Ill have to pull up the light burn file again, part of what’s making it hard for you to find time frames has to do with a couple factors. Great video, how long did it take to engrave the strawberries and the other, bigger, design? Because I want to engrave 360°, top to bottom.
I would assume if you did a full run all at once you'd probably be looking somewhere from 1 to 2 hours of run time after all setup has been done. It's also a little tricky with the remaining handle tabs that are permanently mounted and stick out far enough to hit the head of the laser to do a full run.
Looking to get the xtool, how long did it take for the strawberries? And also how long for the entire design on the tumbler?

Is that the xtool software? Because mines doesn’t look like that so I can’t do the adjustments you are doing
This software is called light burn, it’s $60 - $120 depending on which version you get. I’d definitely say the purchase is worth it if you plan to use this laser a lot. On the other hand your free software can still do a lot though.
I got the same cleaner and tried to use a magic erase but its taking forever to get the gunk off after engraving. do you have any tips?

Is it possible to engrave a full wrap with the M1?
I'd have to check on that, I'm not too familiar with the M1 Machine.
Could you possibly tell me how you got your wife's designs into the program? Is it a drag and drop?
Yes she created them by drawing on the iPad, then expecting them as a jpeg I believe the sent to my laptop which I drag and drop into the program. Good luck!
Can you make a video doing a full wrap engraving around the logo ?
Yes! Let me see if I can bust out a quick “how to” soon on how I lay it all out. Sometimes I just do it one piece at a time and frame it in place to see how it looks against whats already there. I’ll do a video though! Thanks
Would you be able to show us how to engrave the entire cup with a single wrap design?
Yes! I can try and get a video of that this week and get it uploaded.
Has anyone done it on the 40w and know the settings differences?
Have you tried any cups out yet? Are the settings anywhere near half of what they are on the 20 watt laser?
