EDIT: The following is a list of all of the largest inaccuracies presented in this episode. For a comprehensive list of inaccuracies, please see the comment posted by @seandwalsh3.
1.) Not ALL bricks in the Mario series are transformed Toads. Specifically, any block that can completely break is not a Toad. Brick blocks containing coins or items, which turn into a solid block when exhausted of their contents, are the only ones that contain Mushroom Kingdom citizens.
2.) It is likely that the hills, clouds, plants, etc. with eyes throughout the Mushroom Kingdom are actually just spirits inhabiting inanimate objects, rather than once again being transformed Mushroom Kingdom citizens. Bowser transforming a large amount of citizens hasn't actually been mentioned since The Lost Levels.
3.) Super Mario Bros. 3 is a real adventure that is conveyed through the medium of a stage play. This is just speculation, but it's possible that this stage play is simply a retelling of an adventure that happened in the past, and is not occuring in real time. In the case of Thousand-Year-Door, this speculation is actually reality, where it is revealed at the end of the game that Mario's quest through the world of TTYD was made into a book as well as a play. Because of all this, we can now consider the Mushroom World as a real location, likely located very close to the Mushroom Kingdom itself.
4.) I mistakenly stated that Paper Mario: Sticker Star takes place near Peach's castle, when the game actually takes place in the town of Decalburg and the surrounding areas, which is not related to Peach's Castle. However, its relation to the Mushroom Kingdom as a whole is unknown.
5.) The Paper World, as revealed through the book in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, is simply a carbon copy of the regular Mario universe, except everything is made of Paper. This means that everything in the regular world has an identical counterpart in the paper world, regardless of whether or not it was mentioned or shown in either or both of them. This includes every character, as well as those characters' thoughts and experiences.
I will also reiterate on the edit I made to the pinned comment in the pevious episode: With this series specifically, the main focus will always be entertainment, which means whether or not something is "canon" isn't as important to me as that entertainment aspect. However, as you may have seen, moving forward, I plan to clarify when something I'm referencing comes from a dubious source.

9:47 actually, the very same instruction manual states that the spell cast by Bowser didn't transform Toads into the breakable bricks, but instead into the ones that give you an item or some coins.

in mario world's manual, the ghost ship is said to be an airship from mario 3
in mario 3's instruction manual, wendy says this is the first time she's encountered mario

My favorite part of Mario “lore” is the Mushroom Kingdom and the world around. Geography, history, it’s just such a big wacky world I love it.
I like to think the play of “Mario 3” was based on a real adventure, as Mario world’s manual states that the crashed airship level was because of Mario 3. So to me Mario 3 happened, it got turned into a stage play since it was his first global trotting adventure, and then that play was used for the video game we play.
Similar scenarios happened for the first three Paper Mario games, being some of Mario’s grandest adventures they got adapted into in-universe story books and those books became games.
While the (stupid) book from Paper jam has the events of Sticker Star, color splash, Origami King, as well Yoshi’s Woolly and crafted World, take place in there.

It’s possible that the Paper World Book was created using some form of magic. Whether it was to turn the stories inside into their own reality, or seal the Paper Dimension inside, I can’t say. But it’s definitely interesting to think about.
These videos are fantastic! So much research, so many cool details I didn’t know, and some very well done skits to break things up.
I can’t wait for the next episode, and for what other content you’ll make in the future.

Omg. Finally someone that thought to map out Mario world's Geography. I was always intrigued the Geography of it, yet. Not many people have done so.
Also, there is some merit to the northern part of the continent being mountainous. In Partners in Time we see that Star Mountain (I think that's the name) is directly North of the castle.
Also, Yoshi's Island is definitely Southeast of the continent due to Partners In Time's map as well

Some personal fan theories of mine I'd like to share here that are related to the video:
-I like to think that the SNES version of SMB3 actually does happen, and that the NES version is a stage play after everyone's settled down. Main piece of nitpicky evidence here is the more realistic scrolling backgrounds in the SNES version, as well as a lack of many drop shadows in the SNES version compared to the original. Of course that just leaves explanations for the stuff like the hanging platforms, which I have no clue about.
-I also like to think Subcon is connected to the Dream World from Mario & Luigi: Dream Team in some way, since both take place within dreams. Nothing definitely connecting the two though, which is a wasted opportunity AlphaDream could've capitalized on.
-Peach has multiple castles. How else would it be surrounded with completely different Mario Kart course layouts? Same goes with Bowser and his castles.
I have more, but they're not related to this and some of them cross over into, well, crossover territory.

    • @kristofertaft194
      @kristofertaft194 Год назад +1

The best way to explain WHY Peach has multiple castles is because she has to constantly move due to the constant attacks from Bowser, and to top that off, we see Mario going to over see the castle building in Mario Maker 2's story mode, though it's dubiously canon at best.

Hey man! Great job once again, this series continues to be on-point! I appreciate the new indicator for potentially dubious sources, it definitely helps! I also appreciate the background music selection! Really nice choices.
I’ve got a few small things to say, but overall fantastic job:
    [9:41]
According to the Super Mario Bros. manual, as well as the manuals of its remakes/rereleases, the Toads were specifically transformed into the Brick Item Blocks that Mario can’t break with his fist.
    Page 8, Super Mario Bros.:
    “Mario’s Friends
If you come across mushrooms who have been turned into bricks or made invisible, they reward you by giving you a power boost. With each boost Mario changes into a different, more powerful Mario, as shown below.”
Page 10, Super Mario Bros. Deluxe:
    “The Many Faces of Mario
If you come across Mushroom People who have been turned into bricks or made invisible, they will reward you by giving you a power boost. With each boost Mario changes into a different, more powerful Mario.”
Of course, we know that not all of the blocks are transformed Mushroom people either. Blocks appear all over the world outside of the Mushroom Kingdom, across the universe we see in games like Super Mario Galaxy or Super Paper Mario and even in ancient temples untouched by man for hundreds, if not thousands of years. They also appear in the Yoshi’s Island games as well as Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, which take place in the past - long before Bowser’s invasion in Super Mario Bros.
So no, Mario doesn’t kill anyone when he breaks a Brick Block, thankfully!
    [10:30]
There are actually no transformed citizens visible in Super Mario Bros.: the Lost Levels. There are certainly a lot of elements with eyes, but the Blocks still don’t have any, while the horsetail plant don’t appear at all, having Mushroom shaped bushes with eyes in their place.
I think it’s a small bit of a leap to assume that these beings with eyes are the transformed Mushroom People, and an even bigger one to assume that everything with those eyes we’ve seen across the series is in the same boat. It’s important to once again remember the games that take place in the past which feature hills, clouds, plants, Mushrooms, etc. with eyes. These things also appear in games that take place during times of peace and/or after the Toads have been returned to normal by Princess Peach.
As for what these things actually are, I think they’re just naturally occurring spirits that are inhabiting inanimate objects.
Let’s look at the “Whispering Trees” in Paper Mario: the Origami King. These trees have eyes, can talk and are clearly sentient. Their appearance is identical to all of the other things with eyes we see across the series. We also get to see a lot about their life cycle.
When someone cuts down one of these trees, they don’t die. The different pieces of wood either gain or maintain their sentience. One piece of wood from a tree (One of Sweet Sap Loggin’s branches, apparently) was chopped up and turned into a signpost at the Woods’ entrance.
“Yeah, they made me out of one of Grandsappy’s branches.”
“I guess it could be worse. My uncle’s a tongue depressor.”
At the nearby Barbecue Foodeatery, we see how more of the Whispering Tree wood has been transformed into a sentient house and even sentient firewood. The firewood actively wants to be burned - to be returned to the ground so it can somehow become part of new trees.
    “One day I’ll burn….”
    “Light me!”
    “We must burn.”
“We used to be trees, but don’t feel bad for us. We’ll turn into ashes and grow again.”
Even at the entrance to the Foodeatery they have a sign that reads “(All firewood used is happy to burn.)”. To me, the implication seems to be that the spirits inhabiting this wood can become all sorts of things. They have the exact same black dot eyes that appear on clouds, trees, mountains, etc. in other games. They’re even the same eyes that appear on Power-Ups, and interestingly on Whittles from Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Speaking of which, in Mario Party 9, Whittles are described as:
“Tree spirits who inhabit many forests. They're a little creepy--but super nice when you get to know them.”
We could even take this further and apply it to other things we’ve seen. For example, there are also elemental spirits of Fire, Water and Ice in Luigi’s Mansion, which are described in the Book of Pericles in the same game:
“There are spirits known as Elemental Ghosts. They live in the elements of fire, water, and ice that make up much of our world. To handle these Elements, one must first obtain an Element Medal.”
These in turn highly resemble the Fire enemies from Donkey Kong, which manifest all on their own from a fire started in an oil canister, and even the Lava Bubbles that work for Bowser, who themselves are described as spirits in the Paper Mario games:
    “That's a Lava Bubble. It's a flame spirit.”
If all of these things are indeed natural spirits, it explains a ton of things in the series - from Thwomps, to Lakitu’s Cloud, to the Volbonans.
    [11:43]
While the eyes don’t appear on background objects in Super Mario 3D World, they do still appear on items such as the Fire Flower and Super Mushroom, as well as the game’s signature Super Bell and Double Cherry items.
Either way, Bowser hasn’t transformed the Mushroom People since his invasion in Super Mario Bros.: the Lost Levels - and his motivations for kidnapping Peach have evolved and changed over the years along with his character. I don’t think it’s the intention for the background objects to be transformed Toads.
    [12:10]
Super Mario Bros. 3 is absolutely not just a stage play in-universe. Yes, it has the aesthetic and theming of a stage play, hence Miyamoto’s nod in agreement when asked if the game was a stage play, but in-universe it is a very real adventure that Mario went on. We know this because Super Mario Bros. 3 is constantly brought up as a real event in proceeding games. Take Super Mario World, for example, where it’s stated:
“After saving the Mushroom Kingdom from Bowser and the rest of the Koopas in Super Mario Bros. 3, Mario and Luigi needed to recuperate from their adventures. Together they agreed that the best place to vacation was a magical place called Dinosaur Land.”
As well as that, there is an Airship from Super Mario Bros. 3 at the entrance to the Valley of Bowser:
“This is a strange looking sunken ship. Haven't you seen it somewhere before? That's right, in Super Mario Bros. 3, Koopa and his kids used a flying ship to make life tough for Mario. I wouldn't be surprised if Bowser is lurking somewhere nearby.”
Going even further, in Super Mario Sunshine F.L.U.D.D. shows Super Mario Bros. 3 on its monitor along with the other games when it scans Mario at the start of the game, and in Super Mario Odyssey we’re shown a flashback to Super Mario Bros. 3 in Bowser’s memories after Mario captured him in the ending.
    [13:50]
Continuing from the last point, the Mushroom World isn’t a fictional world within the Mario Universe, it’s a very real place. In fact, we’ve seen it a few times in the years since Super Mario Bros. 3. Most notably in Mario Kart DS, where Figure-8 Circuit is located in Grass Land and Desert Hills is located in Desert Land from Super Mario Bros. 3.
    [16:15]
While yes, Bowser sent the Koopalings to “make mischief as they please”, this was clearly in service of Bowser’s plan to conquer the Mushroom World, as he says in the manual:
    “Ha Ha Ha!
These are my 7 children that are going to help me take over the Mushroom World!”
And on the very page you showed in the video, Larry Koopa explains:
“We took 7 wands from the 7 kings. Each of us has one. Our father has instructed us to protect the wands.”
(Obviously they’re no longer his children but the rest still rings true)
It’s clear that Bowser has instructed the Koopalings specifically to steal the wands from the Kings.
    [16:45]
As we see in the intro of the game in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3, Peach received a letter from the Grass Land King’s Toad steward telling her about the Mushroom World’s perils.
    “Dear Princess Peach,
I have terrible news! Those evil Koopalings are spreading chaos all across the Mushroom World! Please help us!
    Sincerely, Toad”
Peach then requested that Mario and Luigi head there and save them. It’s clear that the Mushroom Kingdom and Mushroom World have a close relationship, with them both having “Mushroom” in the name and being inhabited by Toads, as well as with Grass Land and the Mushroom Kingdom at least sharing a landmass.
Mario is well established to be the kind of person to help anyone in need, whether or not he has a connection to them. The Mushroom Kingdom, the Mushroom World, Subcon, Dinosaur Land, Jewelry Land, Sarasaland, Isle Delfino, Rosalina and the Lumas, Rogueport, Prism Island, the Sprixie Kingdom, etc. If Bowser or any other bad guy disturbs the peace, Mario will be there to return it. Mario has even helped Bowser before when he needed it! Like you said in the video, he puts his life on the line for people he doesn’t know. He’s a hero.

      [16:56]
This theory doesn’t make sense, I’m afraid. In the context of Mario’s World, the adventures Mario goes on are clearly real and Mario and Bowser still remain enemies.
      [17:18]
I’m not quite sure what you mean when you say Mario and Bowser don’t seem to have any conflict in Mario Kart, Mario Sports, etc. It’s important to keep in mind that Bowser is still a villain in these games. Just take a look at dialogue and things begin to make more sense:
“Kid! You kept me waiting! I came here to beat Mario!” ~ Bowser, Mario Golf (GBC)
“We started playing Tennis so we could defeat Mario!
But we haven’t even come close to beating him…” ~ Bowser, Mario Tennis (GBC)
“If you don't like how we're acting, then start the matches toot sweet! I’ve been waiting so long, I'm about to blow up on someone!” ~ Bowser, Mario Tennis: Power Tour
“I came to this tourney to crush Mario on the links! What do I care about this loser?” ~ Bowser, Mario Golf: Advance Tour
      “Time to play me!
      But why bother?
      I'Il obviously win!
Gwah ha ha ha!” ~ Bowser, Mario Superstar Baseball
“Bwa ha ha! This racket has the power
to rule over anyone! It's perfect for
      a king like me!
This power is incredible! It makes me want to control everything even more than usual! It's exhilarating!
Mario! Meet me at the spot where this all started. We'll determine who's the strongest once and for all. With this power, I can't lose! Not even to you!” ~ Bowser, Mario Tennis Aces
“The Bowser Highlands Course was specifically designed for a showdown with Mario. We’d just finished putting in the final tricks and traps…” ~ Buzzy Beetle, Mario Golf: Super Rush
“The Snow King is deep within the mountain. The only way in is through Bowser’s golf course, and, well… Lord Bowser designed his course to defeat Mario, so it’s kinda full of lava and bombs and stuff like that.” ~ Spiny, Mario Golf: Super Rush
“Bowser enlisted his minions to create this course in hopes of defeating Mario with all the traps and hazards.” ~ Koopa Troopa, Mario Golf: Super Rush
It’s clear that Bowser takes part in these events to best Mario. Bowser is a petty character like that, it makes perfect sense for him to try and beat Mario in any “fight”.
Or you could look at the stories of games like Mario Super Sluggers, where Bowser invades the Baseball Kingdom in an attempt to take it over for himself, or in-game cutscenes of games like Mario Power Tennis, where Bowser is shown attacking Peach’s Stadium with Bob-ombs, similarly to his attacks in other Mario games. The Toads even bring up the latter attack in Mario Tennis: Power Tour:
“The princess's beloved stadium. Bowser trashed it, but now it's back to its former splendor.”
The times where Bowser and Mario team up in games like Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Super Paper Mario, Paper Mario: the Origami King or Dr. Mario World are all alliances Bowser made out of necessity. There were greater threats that put Bowser, his power and his minions at risk. Teaming up with Mario is the best course of action for him to maintain his assets and protect his people (as well as the world he eventually wants to conquer). Like you said, Bowser is usually a begrudging ally and doesn’t always get along with Mario in these instances.
      [17:57]
Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door actually has a lot of context around its play theming. It was a real adventure Mario went on, which was then made into a play afterwards. This is mentioned in the post-game dialogue:
“The book I wrote about your quest was a huge success. It's even been made into a play! To thank you for the inspiration, I dubbed it “Paper Mario”!”
“Flurrie's back on stage in a big way, and the crowds are totally ecstatic. And, the play she's doing right now is the story of our adventure! Yeah! It's called "Paper Mario"! I saw it twice! It was totally the best play ever! And somehow, Doopliss has joined the troupe as an actor! Who saw that coming? His transformation skills are serving him well, but it still kind of creeps me out...”
This is why the game has a play aesthetic. Heck, this might apply to Super Mario Bros. 3 as well if you want to take Miyamoto’s statement literally - a real adventure that they made into a stage play after the fact. Another example of this is Mario Party 2. Once again, it’s a game with a stage aesthetic that in the end is stated to be real adventure that they retold on stage at a Theme Park.
      [19:04]
Like you said, Subcon isn’t just a figment of Mario’s imagination. Yes, he indeed had a dream within a dream! In the Japan-only sequel to Super Mario Bros. 2, BS Super Mario USA, the story goes that Mario initially believed Subcon to just have been an elaborate dream and nothing more, but in actuality Subcon is a real Kingdom in the Dream World, an alternate dimension that’s accessed through dreams.
Not too long after, Wart returned to Subcon and the King of Subcon used the Power of the Stars to physically transport Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad back to Subcon to get rid of Wart once again. The concept of the Dream World as a whole is further explored in great depth in Mario Party 5 and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.
This is why Birdo and other characters from Super Mario Bros. 2 go on to appear in later games. They really exist, Subcon is just as real a place as the Mushroom Kingdom is.
However, I think it’s a leap in logic to say the Kings’ bodies were swapped with enemies from Subcon - particularly because they explicitly use the word “transformed” when describing what happened to the Kings both in-game and in the manual of Super Mario Bros. 3.
I also don’t think that’s the Duck Hunt Dog, haha.

      [22:08]
Yeah, Peach clearly doesn’t govern the entire continent. The Beanbean Kingdom, the Koopa Kingdom, Evershade Valley, Jewelry Land, Grass Land, Desert Land and Water Land at least are all likely located on that very same continent.
      [22:51]
Referring to the on-screen text - No, actually, that’s not on Yoshi’s Island. You were correct with your original assertion that it’s the Koopa Kingdom (assuming you’re talking about 6-5, “The Very Loooooong Cave”. Correct me if I’m wrong on the level). After beating World 5 of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, the Yoshis and Baby Mario follow Kamek through a portal which leads to the Koopa Kingdom, which is where World 6 of that game takes place. This is the same Koopa Kingdom where Bowser lives as an adult which neighbours the Mushroom Kingdom, like you mentioned.
      [23:00]
Paper Mario: Sticker Star probably doesn’t take place around Peach’s Castle. The game is set in the port town of Decalburg, and Peach’s Castle is nowhere to be seen. Decalburg and it’s surrounding areas are commonly believed to be in the east, as they have connections to Dry Dry Desert from the original Paper Mario, which itself is in the east.
Generally, this map you present is practically identical to my own map of the Mushroom Continent (funny coincidence?) that I‘ve spent the last few years working on with LadySophie17 and the others over on Marioverse, so nothing to disagree with here!
      [27:00]
All of the evidence suggests that while Rogueport is relatively close to the Mushroom Kingdom, it’s not actually part of it.
In the ending of the game, Mario & Co. get on a boat and say “Set a course for the Mushroom Kingdom!”, implying that they weren’t in the Mushroom Kingdom all along.
Peach’s Letter to Mario as seen in the manual reads: “Hello there, Mario! I am now on holiday, travelling in the Mushroom Kingdom. In my travels, I came into possession of a mystical map...a treasure map, actually. I thought you could help me hunt for it! You will, of course, won't you? I'll meet you at Rogueport. (That means you MUST come!) -Peach". This appears to imply that Rougueport is in the Mushroom Kingdom (seeing as Peach was “travelling in the Mushroom Kingdom”).
However in the game, Toadsworth states that he and Peach had only stopped in Rogueport to get fuel for their boat. This suggests that perhaps Rougueport was not actually a part of Peach’s Holiday in the Mushroom Kingdom, but rather a pit-stop on the way to the actual vacation location.
The characters in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door also don’t know Mario very well, unlike most of the residents of the Mushroom Kingdom that we see in other Mario games (like Paper Mario, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, etc.). Their knowledge of Mario is more akin to the knowledge that non-Mushroom Kingdom residents have of Mario. They react to Mario similarly to the residents of the Beanbean Kingdom and the Pi’illo Kingdom (in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team). To me, this indicates that the residents of Rogueport are not residents of the Mushroom Kingdom.
Luigi also stops in Rogueport frequently when travelling between the different areas of the Waffle Kingdom, implying that Rogueport is a popular pitstop for those travelling.
This evidence, paired with the ending dialogue, leads me to believe that Rougeport is an independent island that is between the mainland Mushroom Kingdom one of its overseas vacation territories. Peach and Toadsworth merely stopped there for fuel on their way to somewhere else.
      [28:50]
The Paper World is super confusing to a lot of fans, but when you look into it it’s actually super easy to explain!
Yes, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam indeed shows that the Paper World is located within a Magical Book. However, everything about the Paper Mario series, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam as well as many other games that take place in the “real world” indicate that the history, geography, characters and lore of the Paper Mario World are identical to that of the Real Mario World.
In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, it’s explained by Kamek that the book is a magical legendary book contains the Paper World from the Paper Mario games. Who created it is unknown, but it’s clearly existed for a very long time:
“This is all starting to make some sense. I've heard about a book that holds a parallel world within its pages. I thought it was just the stuff of legend... But based on what you've just told me, perhaps this book is, in fact, real. And it sounds like it's in Peach's castle! And that would explain this little situation here."
In fact, this is the same book we see in the intro and ending sequences of Paper Mario: Sticker Star (though the cover has been slightly changed and it’s been plastered with stickers).
The book contains an exact copy of the real world. The only difference is that it’s made of Paper. In multiple scenes during Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, it’s shown that the characters aren’t just similar counterparts- they’re literally the exact same people. They’ve had the same experiences, they’ve lived the same lives. At multiple points the characters react the same way to the same situation. The Bowsers plot to betray each other at the exact same moment and say the exact same things to their respective Kameks. The Peaches relate to each other over their unique positions before coming to the realisation that they are just the same person:
“Of course you do. After all, you ARE me!”
There are so many scenes like this in the game that indicate that there really isn’t a difference between these worlds.
Characters like the Star Spirits, Whackas, Koopatrols, Goombario, Kooper, Bombette, Moustafa, Tubba Blubba, Goomboss, etc. all either appear in the real world or are mentioned, despite originating in Paper Mario.
Bowser’s Castle from Paper Mario also appears in Mario Kart: Super Circuit. Both that castle and the aforementioned Goomboss were created by Bowser using the Star Rod - if Paper Mario didn’t happen in the real world, neither of them would exist in those games.
Locations from Paper Mario, such as Dry Dry Desert and Dry Dry Ruins, have even gone on to appear in other series like Mario Kart. So no, these locations are definitely not “wiped off the map”.
Anyway, keep up the good work! Looking forward to more, the quality here is off the charts!

Wow! Seems like I overlooked quite a few things! I try to be as diligent as I can with these, but in the interest of getting them out in a decent amount of time, things are bound to be missed. In regards to the Mushroom Continent map. I used your photo on the Marioverse site as a reference quite often throughout the writing of that portion, but I only ended up including locations that I could personally find concrete proof for. (Not sure why I forgot Sticker Star took place in Decalburg btw lol) I can definitely credit the site/page in the description if you would like!
Thank you for all the information though! Just as with the last episode, this will help refine my knowledge for whenever I decide to make the next one. I would also like to say that I am very impressed with how knowledgeable you are on all of this. Bravo from me.

If you look closely outside of the Mushroom Bridge course in Mario Kart Double Dash, you`ll see Peach`s castle. It appears that Mushroom Bridge lies north west from the castle. I also find it very logically to assume that the Mushroom City course from the same game is in that area.

Great video, but again! This factoid is also incorrect. In the Super Mario Bros manual, the blocks that are Toads, are the ones that give you items; which aren't breakable in that game. This is stated in the section called "Mario's Friends" on page 8.

I think that the entire world is magical so that's why the maps are inconsistent between games. The ground moves. That would explain why the levels in New Super Mario Bros U are different to New Super Luigi U.

    • @Chipss
      @Chipss  11 месяцев назад

Essentially, Luigi U takes place in an alternate timeline parallel to the events of NSMBU, so the events are roughly the same with some modifications (i.e. the different level designs). Think of it in the same way as playing as Luigi in Galaxy 1, since in that case the Grand Finale Galaxy only exists when playing as Luigi.
However, since we see floating islands as a very common occurrence in the Mario universe, it’s very possible that the terrain could be moving, but there isn’t any direct evidence to support that. That exact theory has been explored with the Zelda series as well, since Hyrule is so different in every game.
