@@danpsyker6122 lets be honest here, in a book thats supposed to tell the story of one marine we start the story from the perspective of a child and follow that child on his road to try and become an astartes while deliberately hiding his "angel name" from others and the reader. as if every reader ever didnt immediatly know that thats dante in his younger years. if you want to be overly technical then yes, its a spoiler but please. It is so damn obvious that i dont even know why the author included this.

Sigmar became god and redirected other “heroes” of past time and recreated world... that’s how Age of Sigmar began... Warhammer 40k basically born when some of creators of WH Fantasy battles tried to add sci-fy into it... so they Made a first step to Warhammer 40k:)
Remember how in the Space Marine game you entered the Imperial Guard bunker and the wounded Cadian Guardsmen there talked? One of them was grateful to the Emperor for "getting to see a Space Marine before the end" or something like that. Note how the Guardsmen and 2nd Lieutenant Mira tend to call them "My Lords" and some even kneel to them.
@@Traqqer1 Yes, and Ultramarines are among the chapters that still understand that they are the protectors of humanity, but are not the rulers as such. The whole realm of Ultramar operates a bit differently from the rest of the Imperium. A little Imperium within the Imperium. The cultural shock is nicely depicted in the novel Crossfire by Matthew Farrer. The main character Arbitor Senioris called Shira Calpurnia, comes from Ultramar and is posted on a world that is radically different from what she is used to. The description of the different understanding of what it means to serve the Imperium or what the nobility/aristocracy is supposed to be are very interesting to read.

The salamanders are one of the only chapters that let their recruits go visit their families. Salamanders are absolute bros and actually care about humanity

They have their own guard regiments, they manage/rule planets, work as diplomats so most of them are more human then say, dark templars. I just wish more chapters had more "background lore" to make them more human instead of being dicks to everyone...

@@MrWizardjr9 He did let them retire. Kinda, in a wery permanent way. But to be fair they were mentally highly unstable killing machines. Now imagine what would happen if the Emperor did let them retire in peace. And ther minds cracked in the middle of a highly populated area. The number of dead would be in the thousands, if not tens of thousands before they would have been put down. It was not only ther minds who could not handle the strain, but also ther own bodies who struggled to handle the argumentation they had received, in the long run they would break in one way or another. The Thunder warriors was ticking time bombs from the start with only a handful being even remotely mentally stable. And most of those died during the unification wars.
There is also the fan guess due to chaos being in both that warhammer fantasy (even with the change into age of sigmar) is one feudal planet in the warhammer 40K universe. But there is no actual canon link between the two, other than the gods of chaos and their daemons.

Some of the relic chainswords used by the wolves have rows of kraken fangs instead of the standard adamantine aloy chains of more common patterns. That some of them dates back to the crusade/heresy era tells volumes about how durable those fangs are.

Note: Famous authors in the 50s and 60s conceptualized Space marines. GW ran with it in the late seventies and eighties. Modern Sci-Fi like Halo, used elements to make their own versions.
Fighting force refers to the army as a whole. so even though there are more elite individuals (like grey knights and custodes) they dont have the numbers to actually match the space marines.
@@jackmyers8687 Well the Custodes have been split into 3 groups for some time. 2 of these groups were forbidden under any circumstances to leave Terra. The last group go around a guard people/places that will become significant in the near future. So while the Custodes are superior to Space Marines, they aren't *readily avaliable*, they just arent avaliable ever.

There is only one model of Thunder Warrior on GW website and it is in the pack called: "Armour trough the ages" The Thunder Warrior is the one in front with open helmet . Rest are older models of Space marines
Back when the Emperor still walked amongst us, there was a tome that commanded the two great forges of the time (Citadel and Marauder) to produce such arms and armour as his loyal servants required. Citadel catalogue number 1!!! It had all marks of marine armour, including thunder armour (ofc back then 'thunder warriors' were actual Space Marines, not a separate breed and only called such as the Emperor used the thunderbolt as his sigil before he conquered the planet.).
The Space Wolf Omnibus follows the story of Ragnar Blackmane from his life in his tribe though recruitment, implantation, training and his life beyond. Its a rousing saga.
Honestly for how little time you've been at this, you have GREAT instincts for how this all works. It's so much fun to watch these reactions and see your knowledge of the universe expanding and building on itself. Mad props Luke, great watches
7:10 The Emperor's Gift Novel(Great book, it covers Gray Knights and Space Wolves) has a scene where a Gray Knight is taking a shower and someone from an inquisitor task force says something about being a space marine is a great shame implying there's nothing down stairs. About if its true or not if space marines are the most elite fighting force. Space marines aren't copy and paste, chapters have different strengths and some chapters are on a whole other level. Different chapter also have access to different resources, its not just the individual space marine, for example the Imperial Fists have the phalanx which is an massive ship space that's pretty much unrivaled by any other starship. In the Emperor's Gift also shows just HOW POWERFUL space marines and gray knights are. Not all space marines chapters are equal, the Emperor's Gift talks about the Space Wolves(1st founding chapter aka one of the original 20 legions) and you gain an appreciation of just how powerful a founding chapter is. The Watchers of the Throne series(great read, goes into 40k politics, custodies and Sisters of Silence.), book 1 it mentions the custodies have a bit jealousy of the Gray Knights as they might embodied the Emperor's will better than themselves. It also shows a custodies opinions of several space marine chapters and one shield captain being uncertain if he could defeat a space marine chapter master(albeit it was a very special space marine chapter).
btw Bricky has a podcast called Adeptus Rediculous, where he explains a chosen 40k topic, very similar format to his all factions explained. Idk if it's a good format to react to, but you can certainly check it out in your spare time.
On the physical castration thing, we have certain confirmation that at least a grey knight has everything intact but doesn't think about sex from a novel where someone see's him naked and is complimentary... the grey knight is just confused and finishes washing iirc. It's likely they're too hypno indoctrinated and hormonally altered to care, there's confirmation of space wolves having had sex before recruitment (they're recruited a tad older and from a barbarian world) and a possibility that at least one has done after conversion to being a marine... but that very last bit comes from lukas the trickster... could be a trick

The Drak Eldar and more specifically the Haemonculi do their torture like science and art. Way more cold and calculated and less random like the children. Warhammer Fantasy and 40k are separated universes, but they do share a lot in common. Mainly the gods. You coudl say as the gods of Chaos are looking into many dimensions, they just like ours the most, because we give them most power, so that's why there are same gods in both universes, but Warhammer Fantasy is completely separated from 40k while Age of Sigmar is continuation of Warhammer Fantasy (also separated from 40k, just sharing a lot in common)
Stormcast Eternals (the golden boys) in Age of Sigmar aren't "genetically engineered", they are created from human souls. One soul of a dead warrior, in life loyal to God-King Sigmar, makes one Stormcast Eternal. They keep their faces and most memories from their former lives, but their body is enhanced (it's bigger, more muscular, etc.), will strongened, and some of them (but not randomly chosen) gain magic abilities. They don't all have golden armour, but are divided into Stormhosts (the one with golden and blue armour is called Hammers of Sigmar, and they're the poster boys of AoS, just like Ultramarines in 40k). They have some kind of a hierarchy (Lords - Knights - Paladins...). Oh, and in 40k Chaos Gods don't have physical forms, but they do in AoS. To get more general lore I recommend buying Battletome: Stormcast Eternals (for SE lore) and Warhammer Age of Sigmar Core Book (for general AoS lore, rules for the game, and overall description of every faction that was around in 2017). You can buy them from GW stores, www.games-workshop.com (GW's official site), or elementgames.co.uk (or other retailers in Europe, but I recommend this one as they have 10-15% discount for most GW products). If you want to know more about the space wolves AND the process for astartes recruitment, I would suggest you read the Space Wolf Omnibus. This, in part, covers Ragnar Blackmane's recruitment to the chapter prior to his ascension to the rank of Wolf Lord.
One book has a group of Guardswomen in the shower ogling a Space Marine's branch and two pinecones, but he has no idea why they're doing it and just thinks humans are weird.
Regarding castration: One of the things people forget, however, is that the gene seed _only_ responds to _male hormones,_ including (presumably) testosterone, which is why there are no female Space Marines. And we all know which part of the body produces the most testosterone, right? 😉 They're _not_ castrated. All the mental indoctrination, the psychological conditioning, and the extreme physical demands means they have no libido. (Just like the Spartan-II's in Halo. Unlike Warhammer 40k, the Halo novels directly address it... the Spartans _are_ intact, but all the hormonal changes leaves them with little or no sex drive.) And regarding the "codex" in the Space Marines video game... yes, that _is_ the book he's talking about. Every Ultramarine is required to _memorize_ an entire chapter of the _Codex Astartes._ Keep in mind that this codex is literally _thousands_ of pages long, because it's supposed to cover _every_ possible tactical situation that a Space Marine will _ever_ face on the battlefield, so a single chapter of the codex can be several hundred pages to memorize. Chapter organization, siege tactics, stealth tactics, anti-infantry tactics, anti-armor tactics, anti-Ork tactics, anti-Eldar tactics... it's all in there. Because Roboute Guilliman wrote the Codex, and because he is their Primarch, the Ultrasmurfs (as some call them) are the most fervent followers of the Codex. A few of them (as you saw in the video game) refuse to deviate from the Codex in the slightest; a few are more flexible in their interpretation of the Codex.

Space Marines are the most elite force in the sense that they are a, well, force. Grey Knights are highly specialized and secretive, so not many people know about them (and also they are still Space Marines) and Custodes don't do much. Astartes are a standing force that constantly responds to threats all over the Imperium
Prolly too late to recommend or you already know but, "space wolf" omnibus that follows Ragnar would be my biggest recommendation to you as you follow a young kid on a feral world as he joins the space wolves and you go through his entire training and journey as he grows and how he feels leaving his home and how his world changes.

Space wolves are a regular Space marine chapter(as if there's anything regular about Astarties). The Grey Knights are space marines, that are part of the Inquisition. They are different and apart from being the brutal overpowered as space marines are, they are also psykers with immense power that are beyond match. I think the word is Grey Knights are to astarties as astarties are to imperial guardsmen. Lutein covers two very important lore segments that I haven't seen anyone else cover to the extent he does, that are incredibly significant- the STC history(important why humanity has outlawed A.I.) and the Titans, which I know you'll absolutely love how ridiculously overpowered they are.
@21:37 There is one part like this in the first book of the Night Lords trilogy (a must read) The main astartes character Talos recalls how he returned to his homeworld for the first time in 20 years since becoming a Night Lord, to participate in a parade. During the parade people in the crowd started shouting out names and pushed past the barrier guards and got inbetween the marching astartes. One old lady started holding onto Talos and saying his name and begging him to look at her but he refused to. She fell off him and was shot by the parade guards along with the others that had broken past the barriers. Talos felt relieved when the old woman was shot. After the parade Talos' childhood friend (who is also an astartes) tells him how well he handled the actions and death of his mother. It is left up to the reader to decide whether Talos had not allowed himself to recognise her, or had recognised her but refused to admit that he did to both his friend and himself.
Storm Forged Eternals from Age of Sigmar were made by Sigmar the god of humanity he is like a mini emperor without psychic powers. But unlike The Emperor, Sigmar became a God because he wanted to. There were 20 Primarchs, 9 loyal, 9 betrayed the Emperor and 2 were yeeted out and we know nothing about them.
Inquisitors are, technically, higher in the chain of command than the space marines, that doesn't mean they are the superior fighting force. The Field Marshals in command of the SAS and SBS are senior to the Soldiers in question, but are not a more elite fighting force (this is a VERY bad analogy). Adeptus Custodes on the other hand, are more like a guard unit (like the Queens Guard). So despite the fact that they could probably take on Space Marines 2 or even 3 on one, they are not a "Fighting force".
Inquisition also has no direct authority over a Space Marine Chapter... By default. For instance, Space Wolves have literally gone to war against the Inquisition for the latter killing some Imperial Guard Regiments the Space Wolves had sworn to protect - the Inquisition wanted to make _sure_ there was no Chaos Taint in the IG after fighting some demonic incursions next to Space Wolves. Only thanks to the interruption by a Grey Knights Captain and the Oldest Dreadnought, Björn the Fell-Handed of the Space Wolves, was a full-out war between Fenris and the Inquisition averted.

Read the Ragnar blackmane trilogy by William king, it goes from when he is a normal human through all the processes and through his life as a space marine

17:21 Every SPace marine chapter has different ways for recruitment. For example for the Wolfs they recruite exclusivly from Fenris, theire home world wherethe recruite has to go trough trials. With the Ultramarines it's from the realm of Ultramare where pretty much everyone can asigne (and very few gets trough)
You can ready the space space wolf omnibus in this one you can see the entire trial they use in order to do the space marine process. Also the novel Dante explain the trial from the blood angels side.
I think it would counter-intuitive to castrate space marines when the male reproductive system can generate testosterone which influences muscle growth, strength, and key male characteristics.
For the recruitment of a space wolf, there is a tail in the book "Leman Russ" where Arjac Rockfist (a famous space wolf) explain to new recruit how his trail happen.
When he said "Space Marines" are humanity's elite fighting force, he was correct. Yes, while custodians and grey knights also exist and are more powerful than Space Marines, they exist in far fewer numbers and serve a very different purpose to the Adeptus Astartes. So looking at it purely from a militaristic point of view, Custodians guard the palace, the golden throne and embark on missions that serve to further the emperor's will and survival. Grey Knights specialize in anti-demonic / chaos activity and Space Marines are the elite force that the imperium calls on for difficult wars and battles. And please, do not say warhammer is like halo. It is the other way round. 40k has existed since 1986, halo was released in 2001. If anything, the spartans were inspired by space marines. Oh also, your game is wrong. This isn't gears of war. Lastly, two books where space marines go from raw recruit to full marine are - Space Wolves omnibus : Depicts a young ragnar blackmane from how he was selected to full elevation to a space marine. Dante - Absolutely fantastic book that gives great insight into one of the most famous space marines in the lore. Starts him off as a young child and his arduous journey to the trials and subsequent tribulations. Both books have a lot of detail and insight about how raw recruits are selected, trained, undergo trials and also how they deal with those who wash out. Fantastic reads.
Dante is the book thats probably best to describe what a boy goes through to become a space marine. it follows dante from his homelife as a child on a radioactive desert planet, his journey to recruitment, his journey through recruitment, his life going up through the ranks of the blood angels chapter on his way to become one of the best space marines to ever exist. Its specifically about blood angels, so not much detail on space wolf or grey knight life but gives a crazy good idea of what each chapter recruitment and life could be like

A bunch of aspirants dropped into random planets (the maps) with various environmental hazards while also worrying about other aspirants (players) as you try to be the last one standing.
I mean the Space Marines do have dongs around, depends on the chapter if they accept them having wifes and or relations, the Space Wolves are more open and one of them has sons (before becoming a Space Marine). Also maybe the transformations make them sterile to avoid a higher up "race" of baby space marines To see the story of the Marine coming back read Lukas the Trickster, he has a family (wife and sons) and visits them from time to time. Also a sad one is the Dante story and the Devastation of Baal

Each chapter has a home world. Tests are held on their homeworlds for recruitment. Read through the Horus heresy one of the books show the creation of the dark angels. 👍

I definitely recommend reading 'Space Wolf' as it covers the full process of recruitment of the Space Wolves chapter, as Wolf Priests (A mixture of Chaplains and Apothecaries) will continually monitor and watch over various tribes to look for specific individuals who are able to pull off great deeds, such as slaying a Fenrisian troll, being able to survive against a raid from a rival tribe in the case of Ragnar Blackmane, or showing a great cunning while on the hunt. As on Fenris (the world shown with the snow/ice, volcanoes, and the Kraken), nearly the entire planet is geologically unstable, and so tribes are constantly shifting and changing trying to survive against earthquakes, blizzards, hurricanes even if they are along a coast, or volcanic eruptions because the islands and continents shifting apart or into each other. The only stable island is that of Asaheim which is where the Space Wolves Fortress monastery known as the Aett, or the Fang is located upon, however the natives fight for survival includes a whole slew of predatory wildlife such as the Fenrisian troll, Fenrisian Wolf, or Fenrisian Kraken as well as conflict with other tribes.
The Space Wolf omnibus is the literal book series you're after! It charts Ragnar's journey becoming one of the Vlka Fenryka and rising through the ranks to Wolf Lord.
The book "Dante" by Guy Haley tells in great detail about recruitment into Blood Angels, starting from the main character as a child setting out to join them and ending on him returning to his tribe as a Space Marine Captain.
A good source for details on recruitment is actually in a number of the old Codex manuals for the various chapters. They talk about the differences, and the genetic mutation each chapter has, as well as their homeworlds and how they choose recruits. It's fairly condensed, but a good source.

Remember how in the Space Marine game you entered the Imperial Guard bunker and the wounded Cadian Guardsmen there talked? One of them was grateful to the Emperor for "getting to see a Space Marine before the end" or something like that. Note how the Guardsmen and 2nd Lieutenant Mira tend to call them "My Lords" and some even kneel to them.
Also you play Ultramarines a Brand of Space Marine who are really good at Diplomacie
@@Traqqer1 Yes, and Ultramarines are among the chapters that still understand that they are the protectors of humanity, but are not the rulers as such. The whole realm of Ultramar operates a bit differently from the rest of the Imperium. A little Imperium within the Imperium. The cultural shock is nicely depicted in the novel Crossfire by Matthew Farrer. The main character Arbitor Senioris called Shira Calpurnia, comes from Ultramar and is posted on a world that is radically different from what she is used to. The description of the different understanding of what it means to serve the Imperium or what the nobility/aristocracy is supposed to be are very interesting to read.

They have their own guard regiments, they manage/rule planets, work as diplomats so most of them are more human then say, dark templars. I just wish more chapters had more "background lore" to make them more human instead of being dicks to everyone...

Now imagine what would happen if the Emperor did let them retire in peace. And ther minds cracked in the middle of a highly populated area. The number of dead would be in the thousands, if not tens of thousands before they would have been put down. It was not only ther minds who could not handle the strain, but also ther own bodies who struggled to handle the argumentation they had received, in the long run they would break in one way or another. The Thunder warriors was ticking time bombs from the start with only a handful being even remotely mentally stable. And most of those died during the unification wars.

There is also the fan guess due to chaos being in both that warhammer fantasy (even with the change into age of sigmar) is one feudal planet in the warhammer 40K universe. But there is no actual canon link between the two, other than the gods of chaos and their daemons.

Some of the relic chainswords used by the wolves have rows of kraken fangs instead of the standard adamantine aloy chains of more common patterns. That some of them dates back to the crusade/heresy era tells volumes about how durable those fangs are.

The last group go around a guard people/places that will become significant in the near future. I remember my first time watching Luetin09 videos, i made myself comfortable closed my eyes and sinked in story.
16:13 yes, the codex lays out chapter sizes, tactics, how many assault squad companies and so on that a chapter should have.
The codex is not meant to be interpreted strictly but after 10,000s there are plenty of people that don't get the memo.
There is only one model of Thunder Warrior on GW website and it is in the pack called: "Armour trough the ages" The Thunder Warrior is the one in front with open helmet . Rest are older models of Space marines
Back when the Emperor still walked amongst us, there was a tome that commanded the two great forges of the time (Citadel and Marauder) to produce such arms and armour as his loyal servants required.
Citadel catalogue number 1!!! It had all marks of marine armour, including thunder armour (ofc back then 'thunder warriors' were actual Space Marines, not a separate breed and only called such as the Emperor used the thunderbolt as his sigil before he conquered the planet.).
The Space Wolf Omnibus follows the story of Ragnar Blackmane from his life in his tribe though recruitment, implantation, training and his life beyond. Its a rousing saga.
It also highlights how not all chapters are codex compliant

7:10 The Emperor's Gift Novel(Great book, it covers Gray Knights and Space Wolves) has a scene where a Gray Knight is taking a shower and someone from an inquisitor task force says something about being a space marine is a great shame implying there's nothing down stairs.
About if its true or not if space marines are the most elite fighting force. Space marines aren't copy and paste, chapters have different strengths and some chapters are on a whole other level. Different chapter also have access to different resources, its not just the individual space marine, for example the Imperial Fists have the phalanx which is an massive ship space that's pretty much unrivaled by any other starship. In the Emperor's Gift also shows just HOW POWERFUL space marines and gray knights are. Not all space marines chapters are equal, the Emperor's Gift talks about the Space Wolves(1st founding chapter aka one of the original 20 legions) and you gain an appreciation of just how powerful a founding chapter is.
The Watchers of the Throne series(great read, goes into 40k politics, custodies and Sisters of Silence.), book 1 it mentions the custodies have a bit jealousy of the Gray Knights as they might embodied the Emperor's will better than themselves. It also shows a custodies opinions of several space marine chapters and one shield captain being uncertain if he could defeat a space marine chapter master(albeit it was a very special space marine chapter).
Soul Hunter is a great book from the Night Lords trilogy and there is a part in that where one of the characters reflects on his previous life
I would argue that space marines are so resistant to pain that a shot to the boys isnt really gonna slow them down too much.
btw Bricky has a podcast called Adeptus Rediculous, where he explains a chosen 40k topic, very similar format to his all factions explained. Idk if it's a good format to react to, but you can certainly check it out in your spare time.

On the physical castration thing, we have certain confirmation that at least a grey knight has everything intact but doesn't think about sex from a novel where someone see's him naked and is complimentary... the grey knight is just confused and finishes washing iirc. It's likely they're too hypno indoctrinated and hormonally altered to care, there's confirmation of space wolves having had sex before recruitment (they're recruited a tad older and from a barbarian world) and a possibility that at least one has done after conversion to being a marine... but that very last bit comes from lukas the trickster... could be a trick

And there is a confirmation in one of the Ciaphas Cain books, about some Reclaimers infected by genestealers having sex and hybrid ofprings with some infected forge world citizens... If it is possible to take Cain´s word as a proof.
The emperors' children legion should have defiantly been castrated whilst the Imperium still had the chance. Poor, poor civilians. They are genuinely the only ones who could rival the dark Eldar on sheer depravity.

The Drak Eldar and more specifically the Haemonculi do their torture like science and art. Way more cold and calculated and less random like the children. Warhammer Fantasy and 40k are separated universes, but they do share a lot in common. Mainly the gods. You coudl say as the gods of Chaos are looking into many dimensions, they just like ours the most, because we give them most power, so that's why there are same gods in both universes, but Warhammer Fantasy is completely separated from 40k while Age of Sigmar is continuation of Warhammer Fantasy (also separated from 40k, just sharing a lot in common)
Stormcast Eternals (the golden boys) in Age of Sigmar aren't "genetically engineered", they are created from human souls. One soul of a dead warrior, in life loyal to God-King Sigmar, makes one Stormcast Eternal. They keep their faces and most memories from their former lives, but their body is enhanced (it's bigger, more muscular, etc.), will strongened, and some of them (but not randomly chosen) gain magic abilities. They don't all have golden armour, but are divided into Stormhosts (the one with golden and blue armour is called Hammers of Sigmar, and they're the poster boys of AoS, just like Ultramarines in 40k). They have some kind of a hierarchy (Lords - Knights - Paladins...). Oh, and in 40k Chaos Gods don't have physical forms, but they do in AoS. To get more general lore I recommend buying Battletome: Stormcast Eternals (for SE lore) and Warhammer Age of Sigmar Core Book (for general AoS lore, rules for the game, and overall description of every faction that was around in 2017). You can buy them from GW stores, www.games-workshop.com (GW's official site), or elementgames.co.uk (or other retailers in Europe, but I recommend this one as they have 10-15% discount for most GW products). If you want to know more about the space wolves AND the process for astartes recruitment, I would suggest you read the Space Wolf Omnibus. This, in part, covers Ragnar Blackmane's recruitment to the chapter prior to his ascension to the rank of Wolf Lord.
One book has a group of Guardswomen in the shower ogling a Space Marine's branch and two pinecones, but he has no idea why they're doing it and just thinks humans are weird.
Got into luetin09 WAY back when he did bf3/4 content. I was overjoyed when I rediscovered him a year or two ago with a whole catalogue of 40k content.

Regarding castration: One of the things people forget, however, is that the gene seed _only_ responds to _male hormones,_ including (presumably) testosterone, which is why there are no female Space Marines. And we all know which part of the body produces the most testosterone, right? 😉 They're _not_ castrated. All the mental indoctrination, the psychological conditioning, and the extreme physical demands means they have no libido. (Just like the Spartan-II's in Halo. Unlike Warhammer 40k, the Halo novels directly address it... the Spartans _are_ intact, but all the hormonal changes leaves them with little or no sex drive.)
And regarding the "codex" in the Space Marines video game... yes, that _is_ the book he's talking about. Every Ultramarine is required to _memorize_ an entire chapter of the _Codex Astartes._ Keep in mind that this codex is literally _thousands_ of pages long, because it's supposed to cover _every_ possible tactical situation that a Space Marine will _ever_ face on the battlefield, so a single chapter of the codex can be several hundred pages to memorize. Chapter organization, siege tactics, stealth tactics, anti-infantry tactics, anti-armor tactics, anti-Ork tactics, anti-Eldar tactics... it's all in there. Because Roboute Guilliman wrote the Codex, and because he is their Primarch, the Ultrasmurfs (as some call them) are the most fervent followers of the Codex. A few of them (as you saw in the video game) refuse to deviate from the Codex in the slightest; a few are more flexible in their interpretation of the Codex.
I believe that Malcador the Sigilite suggested to the Emperor to make some female Primarchs, that didn't seem to work.

Space Marines are the most elite force in the sense that they are a, well, force. Grey Knights are highly specialized and secretive, so not many people know about them (and also they are still Space Marines) and Custodes don't do much. Astartes are a standing force that constantly responds to threats all over the Imperium
The book series “Space Wolf: Omnibus” has the whole story of recruitment to the Space Wolves, it’s a great story!

Prolly too late to recommend or you already know but, "space wolf" omnibus that follows Ragnar would be my biggest recommendation to you as you follow a young kid on a feral world as he joins the space wolves and you go through his entire training and journey as he grows and how he feels leaving his home and how his world changes.

Just a bit more context. Space wolves are a regular Space marine chapter(as if there's anything regular about Astarties). The Grey Knights are space marines, that are part of the Inquisition. They are different and apart from being the brutal overpowered as space marines are, they are also psykers with immense power that are beyond match. I think the word is Grey Knights are to astarties as astarties are to imperial guardsmen.
Lutein covers two very important lore segments that I haven't seen anyone else cover to the extent he does, that are incredibly significant- the STC history(important why humanity has outlawed A.I.) and the Titans, which I know you'll absolutely love how ridiculously overpowered they are.

Space Marines and Spartans are barely comparable, there is only a relatively small amount of things they have in common.
@21:37 There is one part like this in the first book of the Night Lords trilogy (a must read) The main astartes character Talos recalls how he returned to his homeworld for the first time in 20 years since becoming a Night Lord, to participate in a parade.
During the parade people in the crowd started shouting out names and pushed past the barrier guards and got inbetween the marching astartes. One old lady started holding onto Talos and saying his name and begging him to look at her but he refused to. She fell off him and was shot by the parade guards along with the others that had broken past the barriers. Talos felt relieved when the old woman was shot.
After the parade Talos' childhood friend (who is also an astartes) tells him how well he handled the actions and death of his mother. It is left up to the reader to decide whether Talos had not allowed himself to recognise her, or had recognised her but refused to admit that he did to both his friend and himself.
They will never make an emperor model, as he is just to strong.. he would end games by himself lol

Storm Forged Eternals from Age of Sigmar were made by Sigmar the god of humanity he is like a mini emperor without psychic powers. But unlike The Emperor, Sigmar became a God because he wanted to. There were 20 Primarchs, 9 loyal, 9 betrayed the Emperor and 2 were yeeted out and we know nothing about them.

Inquisitors are, technically, higher in the chain of command than the space marines, that doesn't mean they are the superior fighting force. The Field Marshals in command of the SAS and SBS are senior to the Soldiers in question, but are not a more elite fighting force (this is a VERY bad analogy).
Adeptus Custodes on the other hand, are more like a guard unit (like the Queens Guard). So despite the fact that they could probably take on Space Marines 2 or even 3 on one, they are not a "Fighting force".
Inquisition also has no direct authority over a Space Marine Chapter... By default. For instance, Space Wolves have literally gone to war against the Inquisition for the latter killing some Imperial Guard Regiments the Space Wolves had sworn to protect - the Inquisition wanted to make _sure_ there was no Chaos Taint in the IG after fighting some demonic incursions next to Space Wolves. Only thanks to the interruption by a Grey Knights Captain and the Oldest Dreadnought, Björn the Fell-Handed of the Space Wolves, was a full-out war between Fenris and the Inquisition averted.

@31:52 there are good comics from Dan Abnett. Marneus Calgar is very new (its the current chapter master of the ultramarines) and there is a older one from a Black Templar who becomes TANKRED... the whole setup from recruiting to death and even further.
Read the Ragnar blackmane trilogy by William king, it goes from when he is a normal human through all the processes and through his life as a space marine

Every SPace marine chapter has different ways for recruitment.
For example for the Wolfs they recruite exclusivly from Fenris, theire home world wherethe recruite has to go trough trials.
With the Ultramarines it's from the realm of Ultramare where pretty much everyone can asigne (and very few gets trough)

I think it would counter-intuitive to castrate space marines when the male reproductive system can generate testosterone which influences muscle growth, strength, and key male characteristics.
For the recruitment of a space wolf, there is a tail in the book "Leman Russ" where Arjac Rockfist (a famous space wolf) explain to new recruit how his trail happen.
When he said "Space Marines" are humanity's elite fighting force, he was correct. Yes, while custodians and grey knights also exist and are more powerful than Space Marines, they exist in far fewer numbers and serve a very different purpose to the Adeptus Astartes. So looking at it purely from a militaristic point of view, Custodians guard the palace, the golden throne and embark on missions that serve to further the emperor's will and survival. Grey Knights specialize in anti-demonic / chaos activity and Space Marines are the elite force that the imperium calls on for difficult wars and battles.
And please, do not say warhammer is like halo. It is the other way round. 40k has existed since 1986, halo was released in 2001. If anything, the spartans were inspired by space marines.

Lastly, two books where space marines go from raw recruit to full marine are - Space Wolves omnibus : Depicts a young ragnar blackmane from how he was selected to full elevation to a space marine.
Dante - Absolutely fantastic book that gives great insight into one of the most famous space marines in the lore. Starts him off as a young child and his arduous journey to the trials and subsequent tribulations.
Both books have a lot of detail and insight about how raw recruits are selected, trained, undergo trials and also how they deal with those who wash out. Fantastic reads.
Dante is the book thats probably best to describe what a boy goes through to become a space marine. it follows dante from his homelife as a child on a radioactive desert planet, his journey to recruitment, his journey through recruitment, his life going up through the ranks of the blood angels chapter on his way to become one of the best space marines to ever exist. Its specifically about blood angels, so not much detail on space wolf or grey knight life but gives a crazy good idea of what each chapter recruitment and life could be like

I always imagine thats how a 40k themed Battle Royal game would be. You're an aspirant for some unknown chapter. A bunch of aspirants dropped into random planets (the maps) with various environmental hazards while also worrying about other aspirants (players) as you try to be the last one standing.
I mean the Space Marines do have dongs around, depends on the chapter if they accept them having wifes and or relations, the Space Wolves are more open and one of them has sons (before becoming a Space Marine). Also maybe the transformations make them sterile to avoid a higher up "race" of baby space marines
To see the story of the Marine coming back read Lukas the Trickster, he has a family (wife and sons) and visits them from time to time. Also a sad one is the Dante story and the Devastation of Baal

“Dante” is a book about the origin story of Blood Angels chapter master of the same name. That book shows space marine recruitment and training, and I would highly recommend it as it is one of my favourites.
If you want female Space Marines just look at the sister of battle. I can’t type up the actual name but they can contend with space marines
Each chapter has a home world. Tests are held on their homeworlds for recruitment. Read through the Horus heresy one of the books show the creation of the dark angels. 👍

You get to see ragnar go from fenrisian savage to full on space wolf in the space wolves omnibus. I can't remember how much focus that part of his life gets, but it's in there.
Yeah Irecommended it for him too. The part you are talking about is nearly the half of the 1 book and you get other remembering part in the other two(because it's inculde 3 books if I remember rihgt :D )

I definitely recommend reading 'Space Wolf' as it covers the full process of recruitment of the Space Wolves chapter, as Wolf Priests (A mixture of Chaplains and Apothecaries) will continually monitor and watch over various tribes to look for specific individuals who are able to pull off great deeds, such as slaying a Fenrisian troll, being able to survive against a raid from a rival tribe in the case of Ragnar Blackmane, or showing a great cunning while on the hunt.
As on Fenris (the world shown with the snow/ice, volcanoes, and the Kraken), nearly the entire planet is geologically unstable, and so tribes are constantly shifting and changing trying to survive against earthquakes, blizzards, hurricanes even if they are along a coast, or volcanic eruptions because the islands and continents shifting apart or into each other. The only stable island is that of Asaheim which is where the Space Wolves Fortress monastery known as the Aett, or the Fang is located upon, however the natives fight for survival includes a whole slew of predatory wildlife such as the Fenrisian troll, Fenrisian Wolf, or Fenrisian Kraken as well as conflict with other tribes.

The Space Wolf omnibus is the literal book series you're after! It charts Ragnar's journey becoming one of the Vlka Fenryka and rising through the ranks to Wolf Lord.
The book "Dante" by Guy Haley tells in great detail about recruitment into Blood Angels, starting from the main character as a child setting out to join them and ending on him returning to his tribe as a Space Marine Captain.
A good source for details on recruitment is actually in a number of the old Codex manuals for the various chapters. They talk about the differences, and the genetic mutation each chapter has, as well as their homeworlds and how they choose recruits. It's fairly condensed, but a good source.
