With the prices clean and well maintained Red Tractors are bringing you could have bought the 660 too and kept it for a few years and never lost a dime. I’m thinking there’s another higher horsepower tractor out there somewhere just waiting for you. Until then, you gotta a sweet MTA to enjoy and put to use on the farm. I thought you sold the Super C at a bargain price. If you weren’t at the opposite end of the U.S. from me I would have jumped on that little honey. Have fun with your MTA.
This dang channel is taking me back to my grandparents farm in northeast Nebraska. Have a restored narrow front Super C, the first tractor I drove by myself pulling a grain wagon at 9 years old lol. Crazy I would enjoy watching go to an auction for crying out loud! Just trying to say I appreciate what you are doing here from a 60 year old grandpa in western Nebraska 👊 The Super C is for giving rides to my four grandkids around the property when they visit 🙂

That was the coolest tractor. 5600 lbs, four inch pistons, and 5.25 inch stroke. It’s a beast, and the best classic at the auction. That little Oliver was nice too.

A Super M has 364 cubes. However you can install thinner liners and increase the bore to 385 cube. We have 5 running M's and every one has the increased bore kit and now instead of 248 cubes they are all 364. One is a 39 and it has the 4 inch bore.

Congrats on buying the SMTA, it is agreat looking tractor. The TA's are the bomb when used as designed. My old IH 330 utility with TA has been giving me great service for well over 30 years and still works perfectly! Enjoy it.
Meant to add that tractors like that one in that good of a condition are increasingly rare,and yeah,no one gives them away but you would’ve regretted not getting it. As with your others,you’ve made a solid investment.
I still think you got the better deal on the super M-TA than on the 660 and you were right about the 660 going for 10.200 because you were right on getting it home it would of cost to much 👍
Hard to believe the prices on these older tractors. Fifty-five years ago you couldn't hardly give drawbar tractors away. Everyone wanted 3 point. We bought a one-owner '48 Farmall H for $380.00 at a neighbor"s auction. It was in its work clothes, but straight as an arrow on tinwork.
$7500 for what was clearly an older early series 4020. That's top dollar. Glad to see that you finally got a SMTA and given that you know all about M's and their wicked clutches mastering this one should be a piece of cake for you.

The Ford 9 , 2 , and 8n certainly don't bring what they used to , I saw a 9n , very nice, sell for 1500.00. , last Saturday.
You bought the best tractor. That's a good Super MTA. You know, I wouldn't have touched the 660s, either. Once they modify them for pulling, I walk away. Honestly, I am wondering about fuel in the oil. The oil pressure concerns me, especially on a rebuilt engine. Of course, the turbo may drop the oil pressure a bit. If you want a 660 for your farm, you want a good stock one that was well taken care of. They're around. If you want one, I'll keep my eyes peeled and let you know when I find one. The John Deere B was a good deal. I would have bought it at that.
Glad you went the one more bid over 6 grand. That is a sweet looking MTA that has the nice Farmall motor sound to it. Those tractors always sell well that I have seen. The JD 1020 seemed like a good buy for the money. I had a college of Wooster T shirt that had the name abbreviation and read COW.
Congrats on the SMTA. Back in the late 70s I had a SMDTA. Had to rebuild the head etc. Nice tractor. Sold it and bought a 706. Dad bought his first tractor, a SH in '54 same year I was born. I have it now. Guess that makes it a two owner...

Glad u swung it and got the mta. McConnellsville auction went good. Came home with a transfer tank and a pocket full of cash 😂. There was a farmall 100 with a fast hitch and a fast hitch disc, plow,blade and a sickle bar mounted under neath all for 2,100$. Purred like a kitten. Pretty good price?
I came over to this video after your post on fb I saw. Your smta is my goal and it will be identical to. It has a char-lynn power steering as well. I can't wait to put our smta 66655 backtogether. It had gotten hard water in the sleeves from sitting outside. The engine got resleeved and just needs put back together. Also our smta has new domed pistons going back into it. It had them b4 and had a long than normal starter with a sketchy 12 volt setup. Dad wants to put it back to 6v but my grandpa on my dads side has a super m 6v that barely starts and eats batteries like crazy. What kind of system does this smta have. We have another one we bought that has 12v also.

I think you did ok on the mta We used have one with a factory wide front no.power steering. It had a posi rear end greatb puller. Dynoed 55 hp Both tires would spin together. I was probably 12 years old doing bush hoggin and a branch hit the oil peck cot and all the oil ran outbof engine Locked it up.
MTA it don’t need to look any better. It’s a working tractor it’s not a museum piece you welcome I work mine. It is very dish. They look great working the fields
Good luck with the new toy, Ive always wanted an SMTA myself, itd be interesting to see a comparison of it and the M. I think a 56 or 66 series would be a much more comfortable tractor to run than a 660. It looks cool but if your in that seat for hours it would wear on you quick.
8Ns still bring in good money for what you get. Side mount distributor is easier to get to for points. I thought someone would buy the SMTA to take to the local county fair and sit on a lawn chair.
That's a boom and a half right there. A super M AND a TA, you're gonna need a big genius, because the little genius couldn't slow that machine down in road gear.

I'm almost finished restoring mine, just needs a few more things, then a paint job. I wish mine had the power steering, you'll love it. Is there any way of figuring out how to read the serial number of your tractor? The casting dates of yours and mine are extremely close. It'll be interesting to see how close the serial numbers are.
Hey Mr. Farmall Fanatic! Fellow Pennsylvanian, here. I have a Super A, 12V conversion. But there is nothing off the Alternator to charge the battery. Thing is always dead. What should the correct charging wire routing look like??
@FarmallFanatic there are four wires coming off of the Alternator, one goes to the ammeter, the rest power the lights, none of that system touches the battery and the battery takes no charge off the system, so I'm assuming I need to run something maybe from the ammeter up to the positive terminal?

Our 350 row crop gas originally had a TA. gone before we got it. Someone straight lined it. We have a junked 350 diesel that still has the TA.
