Great help. I had the engine light come on. Used my OBD11 to check codes. P0410 came up. This video urged me to start inpecting the pump. Find that the large hose from/to the engine had become disconnected. Think I must have accidentally disconnected it while inspecting the serpentine belt recently. I reckon this video saved me a fair few bucks. Thank you.
Thanks I'm have to check the hoses out on my 08 E350 I also recently had the intake manifold removed to repair tumble flaps. Maybe some air holes are squash keep getting the p0410 code and the pump is turning on when the motor first starts up.
Did you have to reset the system or disconnect the battery and re-connect to make the light turn off when you finished everything? Or does the light go off on it’s on? I’ve replace the fuse, relay, pump and still P0410 code. There were two rubber hoses I also replaced and still nothing 😢 not sure what else to do? Maybe take off and clean the egr valve ???
My y vacuum hose on the left of your broken one above the Alternator was broken. Some of my 4mm vacuum line connectors are broken but the 1mm vacuum line itself might still be good
i had my engine light pop up and my obd reads P0410 secondary air pump and i have cleared it but still pops up. And my car always passed the emission tests at the inspection. My question is, if my air pump did not work, i would not have passed right?. So i'm wondering if it is some false sensor that is spooking around, becouse my oil sensor is also broken.
I had same issue. Got code. Pulled pump. Bench test and it fired. My wires are not crimped. Put pump back in and still have check engine. Going to test fuse and relay again. If ok, any idea what i should do next? Thks..jc
hi thank you for all your videos and knowledge I have ? my secondary air pump fuse keeps burn as soon as replacing and I have code p0410 on mercedes e350 2010 w212 what is your opinion it will help very much if you if reply to me asap thanks
This was awesome thank you. I have a 2000 ML 430 and am getting O2 sensors bad on my codes, It is also showing this Secondary air pump with error. I am sure I can hear it runnig so do you think the O2 Sensor error is causing the Reading on teh Secondary air pump? Also. I was planning to do a O2 Bypass, ( all O2 banks) is this a good idea? I was thinking of this as Next year I wanted to change my headers and wanted to install after market catz as they will need replacing next year. any advice from you will be very helpfull.
Blessing. I have a 2005 ml350 W163 code p0412 secondary injection pump valve A malfunction, my pump works my problem is I'm not getting 12volts going to the solenoid, any advice will be highly appreciated.
Check the fuse and if good, check the relay. Remember, it's not a constant 12 volts. 12 volts is only seen at the pump during the closed loop process (cold start ups)
Just got the P0410 code on my 129K 2005 W203 C230 Sport Sedan. AutoZone confirmed the code and the secondary air pump issue. I'm going to check the fuse and listen to see if the pump turns on when starting the car. I'll also check the hoses. Thanks for the great video!
Yeah, I''ll check that too. Actually, I don't believe my car has a secondary air pump. I have the M271 4-cylinder engine in my car, which has a supercharger. Looks like there's a hose that comes up from the supercharger into the round metal check valve. I did see a little black hose coming out of the check valve that goes underneath the engine cover. Before taking the engine cover off, I noticed that the where the hose goes into the check valve was totally rotted out. The hose is long enough that I snipped the bad end off and plugged it in. Still getting the Check Engine light, but I think I'd need to get the code cleared.
Had AutoZone clear the code for me but as soon as I started the car, the light was and stayed on. Guy said it could take 50-100 miles for the light to clear if the problem has been resolved. I didn't really believe him, thinking that if the light is still on, then there's still a problem. But sure enough, after about 60 or so miles of driving, when I started it up yesterday morning (the following day after the drive), the light is now off, and has been off ever since. Thank you for your awesome video again.
I hope this message gets to you. I'm having the same issue with my vehicle, already replaced the secondary air pump twice. I have a S600 2010 By watching this video I know that my airport is good because it made the same sounds yours made, I have checked the hoses to make sure nothing was wrong with that, I'm not a mechanic so sometimes I try to do myself because it costs a lot of money to get the car looked, I'm trying to replace the fuse but I can't find anything that will show me which fuels I need to replace. Do you have any suggestions on that. Thanks
Hi Alex.I may be late with this, but when I had PO410 code with S320 W220,it turned out that the front catalytic converters were broken, unfortunately. But I also remember reading that this is a generic code,it may show up with some other fault, too.
2007 Mercedes S550 W221. I'm trying to troubleshoot code P0410. I am trying to determine if the pump is coming on but due to the noise of the engine, I can't tell if it is or not. Does the pump ALWAYS come on? Does it come on in hot weather too? I'm in Houston, TX and it is pretty hot in my garage. Also, how can I test the relay? Can I temporarily use another relay from the fuse box?
This pump comes on during cold starts. Engine is cold. The purpose is to minimize emissions polutants. It aids in the reburning of unburnt gasses when the engine and cats are not up to temperature. This pump is pretty loud. Best way to describe the sound is that of a radiator fan. I will put up a video showing how to test relays. You can use another relay as long as it's the same exact one.
Thanks for the response. I just order a new relay but don't know which one to order. I've searched for it in the fuse chart but not sure if I have identified it correctly. I found [Relay A - Air Pump]. And the fuse I identified [F55 (60A) - Electric Air Pump]. Do I have the correct relay and fuse identified? Thanks in advance.
@@bhasins Was it Relay A? Mine pump runs when I start the car, but I still get code for secondary air injector failure. I listen to the pump runs for about 60 seconds, then stopped. Do you think it could be my relay or the pump is bad? thanks for your help in advance
First, thank you so very much for taking time to share your expertise - you're a life saver! My question deals with all of those small vacuum lines running to/from the Secondary Air Pump and other adjacent locations. I replaced the air intake manifold as per another of your videos and found that my vacuum hoses were very brittle and pretty much fell apart in pieces - this includes the line to MAP Sensor as well. My problem is that I have no idea where to reconnect them. I've looked online for diagrams, etc but can't find any. Could you please point me in the right direction? It's for a 2006 C350 Sport. Thanks again for all you do!
Thank you for your very informative video and knowledge!! and the input of people here it feels as a team sharing their experiences too! I’m you’re ok because you haven’t been on board for years. Well perhaps someone can explain as to why? Clk mb air pump relay isn’t sending power to the fuse, or is it the other way around? Please help!! Tks
We have a 2010 glk450 with p0410 error .The mechanic says the secondary air pump is good but there is a buildup of carbon in in the engine that needs to be clean. He said when he replaced a check valves on the driver side and that he could see a buildup of carbon and that the ports inside the the heads are clogged. He is tried to do a chemical clean but that didn't work. Now he wants to take the engine apart to clean it at a cost of over $2,000. Have you heard of anything like this before?
Yes* * Once the fix is done, you have to clear the light. If you do not clear the light you will have to drive the vehicle for approximately 1 week. This is because that code is depending on a number of cold starts with successful vac pressurization before the light goes off. Clearing the code eliminates this waiting period. If the problem is not fixed, the light will come back on.
I think this is what happened to my 2005 S430.Just got a tune up and the next day the check engine light came on reading code PO401.I think my mechanic might have squash that vacuum line because the car never had a check engine light come before.
Never connect a wire to battery with bare wire ends and without a fuse in the system. If he dropped those wires in the wrong position he would have had some exploding hot wires, the positive one anyhow.
I did have a 730 code I was told oil need to be change i had already change oil so i do not think that any thing to do with pump knot turning off thanks

Most the problems or CEL codes I've seen and most cars is caused by failing vacuum hoses. That would be the first thing I would replace.

is there also a relay on this particular air pump? or just the 40a fuse ?
There has to be a relay somewhere because that pump only runs until the engine is warmed up.
Hello
My secondary air pump is running and don’t turn off even though the engine is completely off.
Rellay is stuck on unplug the fuse till you get a rellay
Which is the secondary air pump?
It injects air into the recirculation system until the engine heats up to allow it to pass smog tests.
Is the damaged hose you show used as a vacuum line?
Yes those lines are vacuum lines and run from the secondary air pump to the air intake manifold.
What is the blue hose?
did the check engine light go off after u did the emergency fix?
Yes*
* Once the fix is done, you have to clear the light. If you do not clear the light you will have to drive the vehicle for approximately 1 week. Can't you test the pump while it's still on the vehicle?
Awesome video. Thanks a lot.
+Neil Williams yes, you can run the same test while it's on the vehicle.
Thank you for your reply and help.
Ive got this P0410 code - on gl450 - how hard is it to repair?
Not hard at all. Test the pump to see if it is really bad. Then look for crimped air lines running to and from the air intake manifold into the pump.
how did you remove the top right screw on the pump?
Thanks for this helpfully Video. In my case it was the charcoal pencils.
Charcoal pencils?
Very very very helpful ~ thank you
Relay test? For non working pump
Absolutely, check the fuse and relay. Either one can cause the pump or any other electronic unit to appear dead.
very helpful, thanks
A piece of vacuum hose would have been better to reconnect the quished portions lol
+Clint Hightower you're right
Squish, squash, squashed 😂😂
Marvin Pelzer you got that right.

Emissions only.

Take a look at those hoses. Also trace the hose back to where it should be. It might be disconnected or might be clogged up.

Where the relay fuse
It was just me or you thought that the cables will touch each other
I thought so too.... 😎
Never connect a wire to battery with bare wire ends and without a fuse in the system. If he dropped those wires in the wrong position he would have had some exploding hot wires, the positive one anyhow.
He could also short the maxi fuse, much better to use a power probe with built in circuit protector
