    Bought this one to make time-lapses since the focal range is ideal, the camera includes a brilliant interval timer and the aperture ring enables adjusting aperture without interrupting the time-lapse capture.

    Excellent cameras, I shoot more casual / family videos with the Lx100 than the Gx85, its more pocketable with its brighter zoom lens and the lates really helps to frame closer or wider quickly without swapping lenses. The lens flare actually gives a nice retro touch to family videos too

    One of the most appealing and brilliant things about this camera, IMHO, is the fast aperture lens! It’s made possible by a slightly smaller image circle, but it’s the fastest zoom in front of an MFT sensor, other than the Leica 10-25mm f1.7 which costs $1,800, I finally broke down and bought the mark II. Can’t wait to get it.

    • @michaelbaxter1564

      One of the most unappealing things about this camera, imho, is that, like its predecessor, its highly prone to sensor dust. Like many people, I purchased this camera when it cost $1000. The 2022 price is $797. I'm still not sure it's good value at that cost.

The best benifit in my opinion is that the rx100 you can set the ring to either aperature or zoom and also has the bounce flash and flick out evf. … BUT IM STILL LOOKING AT BUYING THIS CAMERA…dont know why but it just looks sexy and feels great. This camera may be niche but I’m taking it up a level of niche with the Leica D-Lux 7! Not a camera I would buy myself (the gx9 specs out as the better choice) but as a guilty pleasure Christmas gift in dashing silver, a red dot, and wrapped in brown leather I’m all in. Walking around a city using an iPhone camera is so tourist, this is gonna be all hipster. Especially with the little Leica automatic lens cover that breaks apart like a pie.

    How do you think the video, AF and dynamic range compare to the LX100 mk1? I haven't heard many comparisons, and from what I gathered through the DPreview review, the only real step up is the megapixel count in stills (or at least that's all I remember).
    Mk1 is going for very cheap now that the second version is out, so it's very interesting as a flexible travel or street shooter for many I think.

      I have never used mark I so I unfortunately can't tell you that. There is a lot of improvement besides the sensor like addition of touch scree and new UI, which makes huge difference, it supports USB charging, and one of the most important updates is that it uses new color science from G9 and GH5 and so on.

    How does the LX100 II compares with the similarly priced Sony RX100 Va (even little cheaper) or VI (more expensive)?

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад

      It has larger sensor, better image quality, it is a bit bigger and doesn't have forward facing screen.

    • @paulvanobberghen
      @paulvanobberghen 6 лет назад

      @@TheHybridShooter Yes, I know about the specs, which are quite similar apparently, but what about real life comparison? The RX100 Va is 100$ cheaper, but it seems it should best the LX100 II on many aspects. BTW You say larger sensor, where you should have said larger pixel count (21.7 > 20.1) but Sony's sensor is a 1" APSC where Panasonic's is a M4/3 which is significantly smaller in size. Sony's should be better in low light and high ISO. Lenses are pretty close in terms of range and aperture (24-75 @ 1.7-2.8 > 24-70 @ 1.8-2.8) so image quality would be measured on a pretty equal basis. Would be nice if you could get your hands on one (the Va not the VI, too expensive) and make a side by side comparison. Should be very interesting.

      The autofocus on the RX100 series is infinitely better, especially in video. Burst capability is much better as well. That being said, low light performance and lens speed definitely take a hit. And here's the biggest minus for the RX100 series apart form the VI (which is horribly overpriced); the lack of touchscreen. I don't know what sony was thinking excluding a touchscreen from all of the RX100 series cameras except the most stupidly overpriced variant

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 лет назад +1

      Paul Van Obberghen RX100 series doesn't use APS-C sensor, it uses 1" sensor which is much smaller than M43 in LX100 II, so what I said is correct. Something like RX100 V will be faster, smaller, it has rotatable screen and so on, but LX100 II is category above RX100 series for serious shooting. I don't have any RX100 series camera at the moment, so I can't do that.

    Very good review, interesting and innovative use of the sensor with the aspect ratio button in this way. One thing I noticed is that in the end you mentioned that for its size in can't be matched by anything else, for street work I've been completely crazy about the Ricoh GR series, granted, it doesn't have the zoom that this LX100 II (or Leica Q7 for that matter) has, but I'm considering this camera as option to replace my Ricoh GR. I'd say they serve a similar public and are worth comparing?

    • @TheHybridShooter

      Thank you! I have never used GR, so I can't comment on that. Due to the crop, it isn't very far from latest 1" Sony cameras which have better feature set, so this is even more nice camera nowadays.

    Hi,
    After having sold my RX100 V due to its ergonomics, I want to replace it with another compact camera.
    Many options are quite old now, but nobody knows if there will ever be a replacement. Can you share your feedback on these 3 models in 2022?
    - Panasonic LX100 mk2
    - Canon G1X mk3
    - Canon G5X mk2
    I am mainly a photographer (family, travel or simply what I like in street or nature). only occasional video in family events.
    My priorities are (not in order, all are important):
    - Good autofocus
    - Low light performance
    - Ergonomics/manual controls
    - Good IQ in general (sharpness, DR)
    - Zoom lens, not an ILC but a compact camera
    - From LX100 mk2 I like everything but autofocus performance.
    - From G1X mk3 I like everything but the aperture for its lens.
    - From G5X mk2 I like its extra reach (24-120 instead of 24-70).
    Which camera would you recommend to me, from those 3 or maybe another one?
    Thanks a lot!

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  2 года назад +1

      I definitely don't recommend Canon compact cameras, I have only used G7X III, but it was a very poor camera even by 2019 standards. I wouldn't recommend LX100 II in 2022 either. Generally, the only two compact cameras that I recommend are Sony ZV-1 and RX100 VII, depending on whether you need that kind of focal range.

    • @rccasgar
      @rccasgar 2 года назад

      Thanks for your feedback, but I don't like their ergonomics at all. I also own a Sony RX10 mk4, which I love. I am looking for an smaller camera which, if possible, provides better low light capabilities. If there is nothing by now, I will stay with my RX10 only.

    • @jayk3642
      @jayk3642 2 года назад

      this camera is still excellent. At the very worst, the iq is the same as the RX100 series (but it’s actually slightly better). Rx100 wins in compactness but if you enjoy using something that actually feels like a camera, it’s not even a contest between the rx100 series.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  2 года назад

      @@jayk3642 If the IQ is only the same as with 1" RX100 series cameras or with ZV-1 (which it basically is) that is very bad news for LX100, since the RX100 destroy it in terms of the AF and feature set.

    I would make it a little bigger (GX9 size) to accommodate IBIS, new M4/3 sensor, full size no aspect ratio switch, PADF.
    A screen like the X100VI. to make it more vintage, ISO dial like the X100VI or like the Leica M11. The B&W of the Z F is a good idea. Internal memory and enough room for picture control or User personal JPG Recipes.
