Sorry guys a correction: zoom compact with the largest sensor should be the Canon G1X Mark III. I vaguely remember there's a Canon compact with large sensor but I couldn't find it when I was doing VO, I even thought I was wrong at the moment! Of course that one has a much slower lens, the only advantage could be just dynamic range.
The G1XM3 has a built in 3 stop nd filter, fully articulating LCD screen, weather sealing, 14 bit color, 24mp, leaf shutter and dual pixel autofocus. They are both good cameras just for different people.
Lok Cheung hi there! Can you please advise if you’re also hearing a rather loud coming from the lx100 m2’s interior gearing? I searched online and found others reported this being a common thing from the older lx100 m1 camera, but my Leica dlux cameras never had this issue, including my dlux 109, so I’m more than a little annoyed by this as it’s rather loud and very distracting. If this is in fact just a normal reality of the lx100 models, than I’ll happily pay the extra money for the Leica dlux 7 is it means not having to hear that distraction while shooting. Please advise. Thank you!
Wait no flipscreen? No mic input? Card still at the bottom? MORE crop when using 4K? Did Panasonic not know what features we wanted? Well, I guess I'm keeping the Mark 1.
Thanks Lok for taking the time to review the LX100 Mark II. I actually bought the Original lx100 after watching your excellent original lx100 video a couple of years ago, and I have found it to be the most versatile and enjoyable camera I've ever owned and I want to thank you for such an honest and helpful review, I believe it's the best review on the LX100 anywhere! Originally I got the lx100 as an inexpensive 4k B-roll and travel camera, but after using it on a couple of professional shoots for less Conspicuous candid shots, I found I got more good images with the LX100 than with my Full-Frame D600 Nikon or Panasonic GX-8, mainly because of the uncomplicated operation, reasonably good autofocus, the pop of the Summilux lens and not having to waste time changing lenses. I was a bit disappointed however to see the LX-100 MKII to not be more of an advancement, but the 20.1 mp sensor in the GX-8 is an improvement in terms of noise over the LX100 and GH4, but not in terms of Color and the look of the original LX100, hopefully Panasonic has retained the Leica look of the original LX100 in the MKII rather than just the GX8's "out of the box" look and mediocre JPEGS when compared to the LX100. When I started using the lx100 with Capture One 11 rather than Lightroom, I noticed a significant Improvement in apparent detail, micro contrast, colors and noise, so much so that the advantage of the Leica Summilux lens and Leica color processing that seems to be shared with the D-Lux 109 became apparent, On several shoots where I’ve used the D-600 Nikon with Nikon zooms and primes, and GX-8 with the 22-35mm Vario X 2.8 and Panasonic Prime Lenses the LX-100 often bests them in terms of pleasing color and realism. The Added detail of the Summilux lens images often end up looking more detailed on screen and up to 11” X 14” prints than other cameras with nearly twice the MP. I’ve also found that with Capture One I can often recover one to two extra Megapixels of frame size. I have found the Panasonic mobile app handy for stealthy candid and street shooting, as I can control the power zoom from the app and trigger the nearly silent leaf shutter while seeing a realtime view. I can look like I'm just using my phone while I zoom and snap images with the camera hanging from a strap or with it setting on a table. However, In difference to your comment in your original LX100 video where you said dynamic range was “Ok but nothing to shout about” with careful RAW exposure and processing I’ve found I a lot of useable shadow and highlight detail and found it as good or better than many cameras that are generally assumed to be much better. As far as video, I’ve been very happy with the LX100 considering it’s a consumer grade video camera that shoots 8-bit video. I do like that the Leica look is also carried over to the Video side, and I often get better-looking images that require little or no grading and look better than what I get from my GH4 and GX8, and the Original LX100 also has a custom profile curve that can be adjusted to give somewhat of LOG look, I actually prefer to the 8-bit Log profiles in the GH4 and GX8. Looking forward to an in-depth review of the LX100 MK II.
Great outro mate. I do enjoy your videos. I can not say that the LX100II has enough for me to sell my original and upgrade. Add a flip screen and mic jack and I might have been swayed.
The first model is my favourite camera of all time (I have an A9 etc as well), but I always craved a little higher MP count. That alone is enough for me. Shame about the lack of flip screen but it’s not a weatherproof camera so I can live without all that. USB charging is a massive bonus.
That multi ratio is actually same meaning as shoot with a 4/3 ratio sensor but don't use the whole sensor and crop in with different ratio, so in the end it still cropped and even the 4/3 is not full sensor readout, so shoot with a real 4/3 sensor and crop later to those ratios is same meaning
$598 street price is just right! I have the LX100 and I love it, although dust does creep into the lens over time. Do you know if the seals are better on this model?
Yes, the shot before actually shows him taking it. Probably zoomed in fully to 34mm at f2.8. Lack of shallow depth of field is certainly not an issue with this camera.
If you’ve already purchased either the Lx100 m2 or Leica dlux 7, Can you please advise if you’re also hearing a rather loud sound coming from within the camera, likely from it’s gearing? I searched online and found others reported this being a common thing from the older lx100 m1 camera, but my Leica dlux cameras never had this issue, including my dlux 109, so I’m more than a little annoyed by this as it’s rather loud and very distracting. If this is in fact just a normal reality of the lx100 models, than I’ll happily pay the extra money for the Leica dlux 7 is it means not having to hear that distraction while shooting. Please advise. Thank you!
Okay so I get that this camera is missing a lot things that a lot of people (including me) would love to have. BUT since I bought this camera I hardly ever take my Sony A7 III with me anymore. The LX100 2 is just so much fun to shoot with and the results are really good.
I was hoping for a built in ND filter, dust proofing, and built in flash. Hoping the increased resolution will improve the image details, despite the same lens as before, especially with buildings.
I have the original LX100 which is a great camera, however, the one thing that I absolutely hate about it is the exposure compensation dial. I am forever accidently moving it and find I have taken pictures with the wrong exposure. A lock button or someway of diabling this would have been good which I doubt they have done.
Lovely camera, the one confusing thing is that there's a Panasonic and not a Fujifilm logo on it, it's exactly the camera one would expect in Fuji's lineup, replacing their smaller sensor compacts like the X30.
What about its image stabilizer for 1080p video recording? I've watched other reviews about this camera, and I think it is too shaky; lame for its price range.
Hey Lok! I own the LX100 and I loved it until some issues start to happen. I’m wondering... Did they fix the issues about the dust getting the sensor through the lenses’ gap? Did they fix the autofocus engine issue? Anyway, thank you for the review! 👊
I love this camera. It does everything and its compact. So this is basically a upgraded sensor, a touch screen, and some new features like 4k photo? How's the AF compare to the last version? I think the touch screen is handy for focus, but other than that, I think I'd rather buy the last version and save some money. I'd like to have a flip out screen or something more. For the previous version, the lens is very nice but the viewfinder isnt the best, and it lags a bit sometimes, but overall I love the image quality out of the mft sensor and lens and I'd take this over the rx100 any day, actually.
I bought it a week ago and enjoy using it. I used GR2 previously, think I prefer LX100 due to bright lens, more function, zoom, and much more. Thank you for useful tips in your clip. By the way, where did you buy auto lens cap. Please share me with the link:) That’s the one I really need!
No mic jack, your selfie filming is totally out of focus I guess Panasonic still doesn't know how to do video AF, you couldn't see how bad you're out of focus since the display is not flippable, there is no IBIS your video is a shaky mess, too bad. Don't buy this camera for video.
Sadly spot on, so much time for them to update the weak points of the first LX100 and they failed on almost every level, it's pretty disappointing to see camera makers "tread water" instead of giving people a real update
This is a missed opportunity. The original was great but was lacking a touch and tilt screen. Now it gets touch but why not tilt? For a street camera it would make more sense to add a tilt screen. Buy the GX9 instead, you get all the features. If you want to save some money, get the GX80.
One of greatest cameras I ever had, apart from really not reliable AF (missing all the time) and not so good dynamic range. And I see stabilization still does not work in video :-(
It's got a built in mic that's not great either. Even the G9x has a great built in mic, when you give people no choice, at least make a reasonable choice!
Quite disappointed as I own the mark i and its starting to go, was hoping for some sort of update to it. Very minimal improvements for 4 years, I think I'll just get another mark i instead. Great review though Lok, looking forward to more!
Canon G1Xiii has a larger sensor for a built in lens on a compact camera. Not as well styled or as fast a lens however. Would probably still go with an LX100.
$997?! Fail, the original released at $800 and there isn't enough upgrades over that to ask for more. Even the MkI didn't sell well until it hit $600, this mkII has no chance.
The 1:1 is a complete con! It should use the entire sensor height. Should be exactly the same as cropping to 1:1 in a normal mft camera. Multi aspect is supposed to give the most efficient usage of the image circle and this fails. Combine with the 1.35 x crop in video and im underwelmed. Anyway, keep reviewing Lok, I watch mainly for your charm. How was that moving shot of the car done by the way?
I still would take my panasonic g7 whcih is only 16mp. just has good screen, grip, and interchangable lenses. bargain now. Only issue is photo quality is ... a little weak but ok. it often beats my older crop camera
Panasonic made us all wait this long. No one in PR or Social media was reading what people wanted. They release this with nothing to warrant paying that price! Sorry Panasonic! Maybe they will release and update so you can get a flip out screen hahaha
It was a joy to use my LX100 for so long and was looking forward to the mark 2. So, disappointed but I probably might still get it when price drops to around $700s.
I actually think it is kind of ballsy that they only made some practical adjustments instead of making huge changes just for marketing purposes. On the other hand, selfie video in broad daylight, totally out of focus. What the... Did you use some unfortunate setting or is this truly representative?
Sorry guys a correction: zoom compact with the largest sensor should be the Canon G1X Mark III. u should pin it, Lok ;)
This camera will have a much better lens than the Canon.
The G1XM3 has a built in 3 stop nd filter, fully articulating LCD screen, weather sealing, 14 bit color, 24mp, leaf shutter and dual pixel autofocus. They are both good cameras just for different people.

I have the same question: FlipUp display?Mic Input?NO? --- ok,thanks,not for my..
I just bought the lx100 1 and love it for video. I was hoping for at least a flip screen on the new lx100. I'll definitely not get the new one.
Honestly its perfect for some people. I’m a photographer not a videographer. I don’t want to pay for video-centric features.
Thanks Lok for taking the time to review the LX100 Mark II. After so many years it really should have an articulating screen and mic input. And for sure vlog-l at least.
It's a compact camera an articulating screen would add bulk.
Other cameras have what you want.
Panasonic don't want douchey vloggers using their cameras. That's what the G7X is for.
Awesome review Lok and thanks for the close up photo 😱
He did not mention your youtube channel BTW... which is excellent !
Thank you :)
Loved it as always Lok. Well Done.
Proud of you Lok! Keep up the great work.
Lok thank you for all these many years.
Would you go for a LX100ii or a X-T30 as a beginner?
Hi Lok. Always glad to see your videos!!! Keep up the good work!
Great outro mate. I do enjoy your videos. I can not say that the LX100II has enough for me to sell my original and upgrade. Add a flip screen and mic jack and I might have been swayed.
Thanks for taking the time as I am looking for a great compact and have nowode
The first company to put a mic input in a compact camera will win
pretty sure x100f has dat
hi.. it has in body stabilization? why looks shaky?
Is the ergo exactly the same as the LX100 i? If it is, I'm thinking it might soon be the best time than ever to pick up a mark i.
is the video in low light is good
I built my channel on the LX100 and still use it everyday. MK2 looks the same, but it`s got some nice upgrades.
Almost bought version one but bad AF for video, no flip screen and mic input. Still no flip screen and mic input, yup pass for me.
The first model is my favourite camera of all time (I have an A9 etc as well), but I always craved a little higher MP count. That alone is enough for me. Shame about the lack of flip screen but it’s not a weatherproof camera so I can live without all that. USB charging is a massive bonus.

We love you Lok!
Looks like panasonic will continue to have more camera with changeable aspect ratio? Like the GH5s and this, it seems interesting.
Do you know if the LX100 II has live HDMI out? Thanks Lok!
What about the RX100 5-6-7?
Where did you buy the retractable cover lens?
$598 street price is just right! I have the LX100 and I love it, although dust does creep into the lens over time. Do you know if the seals are better on this model?
Great video! Thank you for your hard work!
Didn’t realize this camera came out in 2018!
Appreciate your work, Lok!
You are the “anti-Kai”.....
the auto door is so nice!!
So it now has post focus and focus stacking? Does it still have the Multiple Exposure function? Hoping to hear from you
I’m still in love with my LX100
Still in love? Thinking of buying one used 😀
Hello Lok. Thank you for the video! Can you tell me, at 5:53 is the photo of your friend with the Leica Q taken with the LX100?
Many thanks.
Yes, the shot before actually shows him taking it. Probably zoomed in fully to 34mm at f2.8. Lack of shallow depth of field is certainly not an issue with this camera.
Yep of course
If you’ve already purchased either the Lx100 m2 or Leica dlux 7, Can you please advise if you’re also hearing a rather loud sound coming from within the camera, likely from it’s gearing? They fix problem with dust on sensor?
did the solved the dust problem?
Nice ending of the video "Yay! " ...like it
Okay so I get that this camera is missing a lot things that a lot of people (including me) would love to have. BUT since I bought this camera I hardly ever take my Sony A7 III with me anymore. The LX100 2 is just so much fun to shoot with and the results are really good.
All I was wondering the entire video was: what camera was this video shot with?
Damn that A7SII image is great
Brilliant review, Lok. Almost LOL about 97 models in between LX3 and LX100 :-) As for LX100II : Still no flip-screen was my first thought!
Still dust problems?
I was JUST watching the first one reviewed by you on DRTV. And this came..
I loved that first one. Not only because it was a good review of a great little camera but because it showed the City of Bath which I also love.
Haha i got the same problem.
7:39 wrong Lok. The Canon G1X Mk3 has an APS-C sensor and zoom lens. It holds that title.
You're right. I've made a comment as correction on top
Lok Cheung BTW, is the video continuous AF still unusable?
It’s not that good, at least on this prototype.
Lok Cheung disappointing. It’s like Panasonic didn’t really try with this.
If this will be the camera will not worth change from the mark one in my opinion. And again no flip screen.... how is it possible?
Lovely camera, the one confusing thing is that there's a Panasonic and not a Fujifilm logo on it, it's exactly the camera one would expect in Fuji's lineup, replacing their smaller sensor compacts like the X30.
Great review, Lok! I loved your outro...yay!
Will Panasonic offer the alien lens cap again?
I think they’re still selling it
It's not available in the U.S. Nor is the fancy fitted case you have.
What about its image stabilizer for 1080p video recording? I've watched other reviews about this camera, and I think it is too shaky; lame for its price range.
Thanks for the review, Lok. Do you think that Leica will release a D-LUX (type 109) mark II?
Time to do a “ how this camera compared to todays compact camera”
Hey Lok! I own the LX100 and I loved it until some issues start to happen. I’m wondering... Did they fix the issues about the dust getting the sensor through the lenses’ gap? Did they fix the autofocus engine issue? Anyway, thank you for the review! 👊
Lok, didn't you make your debut (as a presenter) in London with the LX100 review?
Yea as I remember, I just didn’t really go checking
Great video senor. Cheers from India
I love your trench coat. What label is it?
I love this camera. It does everything and its compact. So this is basically a upgraded sensor, a touch screen, and some new features like 4k photo? How's the AF compare to the last version? nice review
Lok is in an upload rush 😁.
What language is this?
Heavy crop in 4K....why, Panasonic?
Lok, Great to see you are in Auckland!! How long are you staying?
I was there for a week only, now backed to Hong Kong
No tilt LCD screen, bummer
We have the LX100 and it is excellent. But lack of articulating display makes low angle shots a nightmare.
Lok do you speak teochew besides canto?
No mic jack, your selfie filming is totally out of focus I guess Panasonic still doesn't know how to do video AF, you couldn't see how bad you're out of focus since the display is not flippable, there is no IBIS your video is a shaky mess, too bad. Don't buy this camera for video.
Sadly spot on, so much time for them to update the weak points of the first LX100 and they failed on almost every level, it's pretty disappointing to see camera makers "tread water" instead of giving people a real update
When you are in photokina?
When Photokina take place!
This is a missed opportunity. The original was great but was lacking a touch and tilt screen. Now it gets touch but why not tilt? For a street camera it would make more sense to add a tilt screen. Buy the GX9 instead, you get all the features. If you want to save some money, get the GX80.
Can u review LIGHT L16?
This camera isn't bad but it seems that a hi end smart phone camera would perform similarly.
Sorry but a phone will not cut it go try any Micro 3/4 or ASP-C sensor camera with a good lens you will see a big difference!
請問會拍廣東話版嗎?謝
已經出左啦~
For a compact camera that is actually quite big. Please, Panasonic, make a small pocketable compact, something like a LF2...
Quite disappointed as I own the mark i and its starting to go, was hoping for some sort of update to it. Very minimal improvements for 4 years, I think I'll just get another mark i instead. Great review though Lok, looking forward to more!
Narrowed the field to canon a7x ii , tz 110 or tz 220 now this sp hard to choice stay safe
Canon G1Xiii has a larger sensor for a built in lens on a compact camera. Not as well styled or as fast a lens however. Would probably still go with an LX100.
You're right. I've made a comment as correction on top
I don't blame you forgetting about the Canon TBH. Hardly anyone has bought it right?
I can't believe Panasonic disappointed us in this way! Looking forward to G90/G95!!
Good video.
$997?! Fail, the original released at $800 and there isn't enough upgrades over that to ask for more. Even the MkI didn't sell well until it hit $600, this mkII has no chance.
I want that lens!
Excellent.
How was that moving shot of the car done by the way?
i hope they do a fast prime version for this
Yea it’s interesting that it seems Panasonic don’t do prime compact!
Lamest update of a camera I have seen. 4 years development to get to 17MP. Yea sorry but no.
Yep. A travel camera that doesn't even have a flip screen. Retarded decision
17MP is fine but no flip screen is a bad joke...
It's kinda like wtf man
I am sorry but not in 2018 for $1000+ it isn't.
Biggest update in price ! Lol !
lok, no. The largest sensor compact camera right now with a zoom is the Canon G1X markiii. It has a bigger Apsc sensor in it.
You're right. I've made a comment as correction on top
i'm STILL WAITING for FUJI to produce a Pocket APS-C Xtrans sensor
Ni Hao, Congratulations on a camera in the mail!
No articulating screen. At least make it flip-out able...
Once you get something on your sensor, you're in trouble. No way to remove the lens. Have to take it in.
The mfr. improved dust resistance from the LX100.
It was a joy to use my LX100 for so long and was looking forward to the mark 2. So, disappointed but I probably might still get it when price drops to around $700s.
>only built-in mike
Why do they do this? At least have a mike jack so we can use a lapel mike.
shophet125 for photographers not vloggers
Looks. Like good camera for street small zoom Bright lens 😉 Panasonic making good cameras
I wanna learn how to talk with this guys accent. It'll be my new thing.
Victoria Park Market , Welcome to Auckland Lok
I miss Auckland.
no tilt screen? bomber, it looks like a recycled lx100 mark 1, no panasonic for me, ill just go for sony
I actually think it is kind of ballsy that they only made some practical adjustments instead of making huge changes just for marketing purposes. On the other hand, selfie video in broad daylight, totally out of focus. What the... Did you use some unfortunate setting or is this truly representative?
AF in video is really not that great, yes it is truly representative
If only it were 30mp and had an apsc sensor. It would be pretty much the perfect camera...
