I love videos like this. These are one of my favorite body style accords. I like seeing what a little TLC can do to even an older car and bring some life back into a "beater".
I remember the last day of vacation one year. Thinking about going home, had a dream where my limo ride home from the airport was a mid-90's Accord, all dolled up. New seats, new wheels, restored paint, new radio/infotainment and speakers, you name it. I actually think the car was the bare-base-model DX originally, but had to get a buncha OEM parts such as power windows and air conditioning from Honda that were used on EX trims. There were plenty of third-party parts too which would have made it more luxurious and comfortable than the stock models. So I could only imagine the soup-up job on that car, only to put limo-grade leather seats in there. When I was growing up my family had a 1995 LX... that would have been a nice fixer-upper job too. So all this fixer-upper thought brought me to this video.

Some bozo decided not to stop for a red light and totalled my car last year. She suffered major rear and front end damage. No way to bring her back to life "( Glad I got the Accord, she came with new tires and a bumping stereo for the commute 😃
Where the wheel bearing goes into the spindle, once you get it apart, clean all the rust up and then put a thin coat of grease between the 2 pieces and the next time you need to go in there for rotor or wheel bearing, it comes apart very easy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Well, I just learned something new. I now know where car thermostats are. It's always located in the lower radiator hose. Thanks for the video man, I really appreciate it.👍🏿

A 24 minute that took 12 hours to edit! Man you do great work on cars and editing videos. That car thanks you! It needed some TLC and you are the perfect gut to provide that. That design for the rotors is kind of a pain in the butt. Perfect ending. A proud and well deserved placement of your sticker.

You can do a direct swap for the hub, and bearing from a 1999 Acura 2.3 CL and it will convert your 97 front brakes from hub-over-rotor to the standard rotor over hub... The 1999 Acura 2.3 CL rotors are direct bolt on after that.
The front hubs can be changed so regular rotors can be used. I did it on my 97" Accord. You reuse your stock calipers. I used the 4 lug bolt 1998 Acura CL hubs, but that's only because I just bought rims for the car. I really wanted to go 5 lug bolt; more choices when it comes to aftermarket rims.
That wheel bearing design incorporates the worst of both worlds. It has a bolt-on design, but requiring one to break the bearing in two to get it out. With a bearing replacement required every time a rotor is changed, it is easy to see why manufacturers abandoned the idea.
Yeah its a shit design but i found out the bearing doesnt have to be replaced , it just has to be seperated from the knuckle but if you're going in that far you might as well replace the bearing

That trapped rotor design wasn't one of Honda's better ideas. Newer ones are more conventional and easier to deal with. This was another good video gave the essential information without spending too much time on minor details.
Great video man. Keep up the good work. I found a faster easier way to change the front rotors is to use a slide hammer instead of taking the whole front spindle out. I did this last weekend on my 96 accord lx.

We werent trying to do more work than we had to. Fixing the car is easier than swapping parts. Plus i didnt want to cause any confusion for my cousin in the future as far as what parts to get.
lol No grease has no effect on posts unless you put a gooey mess of it on there. Take some gun n chew it up, Stick it in between the two posts. Put a copper penny on it. It will corrode faster than the terminals. Old trick.
@@themechanic6117 When i was in mechanics school that was first thing the teacher taught us. Very old trick. I have the same car and fighting with the defrost flapper. Can't get it to blow anyplace but out the two side vents on dash.

Yeah i included it in the video. $800 in parts is cheap to get a car like this running in good condition again. Labor to do all this work would be expensive if you paid someone to do it
Funny you mention that because my cousin is bringing it over next week to do the lower balljoint. This wasn't my car to just throw parts at.its his money. All the parts replaced had to get the green light from him just like any other customer. I've had customers come in with a wheel bearing so bad that it looks like the wheel is about to fall off yet all they want is front brake pads installed. If it were my car I would have changed it all
The mech a nic YEP just in time !!! Having a bad lower ball joint is not good !! It's dangerous. .I had them replace after finding out they had alot of play in em.
You dont have to. Once you remove the knuckle with the bearing attached to it you can slide the rotor off the back. I didnt know that when i made the video

Yeah honda did it on there older cars .its weird. Yes he still has the car. The exact miles are unknown due to the cluster not working. About a month ago we did the timing belt on it. Its still going strong 💪
