Had a test drive of speed 400. Waiting for scrambler test drive to decide.

Beautiful bike!!! As a 50 years old beginner (1,82 cm high with 110kg weight) looking for his first bike, love this scrambler!!! Will do 70% commuting (town, work etc..) and 30% touring... Do you thing that bike can do some light touring? Thanx and regards from far away Serbia :)

    Nice on Chris.
I think the S400x is a better investment between the two, mainly because I am not a speed demon and secondly its better suited to our kind of roads (or lack of it) and the ability to explore the trails is an added bonus, no? It looks much better than S400 IMHO. Aside from less sharper brakes and lesser top speed, does it not make for a better long distance tourer compared to its sibling? This one has longer travel suspension, more spacious seat, more comfortable ergos and it can go faster than any legal speed limit in our country and comfortably. Also did I mention it looks way better than S400? 😁
BUT if I was shopping in this price segment, I would strongly consider the all new Himalayan 452. Aside from the unknown factor of pricing, I think so far the bike seems to hit the sweet spot on every other aspect.

I own the Speed 400 and i'm guessing the Scrambler 400x is not going to be whole lot different to the Speed 400. While I quite enjoy riding the bike, it has been an absolute disaster till now owning one. Khivraj Triumph Chennai has been absolute rubbish as well. Valvetrain noise which Khivraj Triumph refused to acknowledge and I had to bring the roof down in the showroom, make a scene and write multiple emails to Bajaj/KTM/Triumph before they sent someone from the factory and replaced the entire head assembly - valves, guides, springs, camshafts, rocker arms and all. They were also quite clueless to the cause and have as of now not bothered to disclose the issue which seems to be prevalent on multiple engines to varying degrees though the rhetoric has been.. Do a 1000 kms and the 1st oil change will make it butter smooth. Yeah right. I was born yesterday. Some examples are smooth and refined (esp the ones put on test ride duty) and some are pure garbage and need some serious intervention like mine. Now the cone set has failed and is awaiting replacement (parts are shared with the pulsar NS, yes the part nos match). The bike was delivered with a dent on the tank (tank replaced on Day 1), the odd nuts and bolts loose (exhaust header, exhaust heat shields etc), no coolant in the reservoir, scratch on the instrument console (the buggers wipe it with the same soiled cloth they use to clean the wheels and other muck on delivery day and there were too many other problems to deal with to really fuss about this scratch on day 1), bubbling paint on the headlight rim (awaiting replacement next), bar end mirrors not torqued properly that they would keep spinning around the bar, tyre pressures set to 36PSI front and back (Reco is 26 and 33 respectively) and almost zero fuel in the tank (gauge was not showing a single bar). Talking about fuel and tank, the fuel gauge has a mind of its own. I've owned the 1st gen Caliber, Eliminator 175, Pulsar 200 2nd gen DTSi, Avenger 200 Oil Cooled, 1st gen KTM Duke 200, 2nd Gen KTM Duke 390 all from the Bajaj stable and never faced such issues either with upfront quality or the service center listening to your issues. Put a Triumph sticker on it and they believe the name overshadows crappy quality levels and even crappier service support from Khivraj Triumph Chennai. A huge no of parts are from the Bajaj stable ... yes... part nos match for a huge bunch of components. This bike is an amalgamation of the Duke, Dominar, Pulsars, Avengers and others. Nothing bad about that. Keeps cost down. But stop pretending that this has come all the way from Hinckley. They need to sort the bike out and their dealers out more before people start seeing it for what it really is. I still like the bike tho. Just wish the support was something to crow about.

Oh my... that's really bad and not something I expected out of triumph

@@samja666 Fortunately it's not exactly wholly a Triumph. The upside is Bajaj does seem to listen to their customers even if it needs a bit of escalation. The problem is seemingly dealers such as Khivraj and Keerthi who continue to hold on to the monopolistic and uncaring attitudes of when they were sole Triumph dealers. If there is a silver lining in this whole thing it is the partnership with Bajaj/KTM.

Did test ride today x440 and scrambler 400x.
400x has awesome suspension, good seat, decent pull in city, nice handke bar and seating ergonomics. Miss is you cant install main stand even aftermarket. There is no provision to put main stand! This is suitable only for tall people.
X440 harley is more fun to ride than scrambler. Awesome low end pull and bike sound. Very average narrow seats. Dealers are charging 10k extra hidden charges under registration tax. 2500 hidden illegal charges as handling charges in scrambleee 400x
