This is the song that started my Maiden voyage way back in 1984 and remains my favourite. My personal opinion is it's their most underrated song.
The Duellists is more underrated
Not many people know that if you listen carefully you can hear Bruce singing "I see sixes (six six) all the way" at 2:06 with a second lower voice. A little easter egg hiding a six six six😉🤘🏻
"Back in the Village," recorded in 1984, still sets the standard for technical mastery in heavy metal guitar, as do many other songs from the Powerslave album, including "Losfer Words (Big 'Orra)" and "The Duelist."
Yes but I think the point is thhat maiden always tailor everything to the quality of the final quality of the song. Never any overiindulgence, or detracting virtuosity from any particular member of the band. Unlike many other bands could mention
You're the man !! Even after decades listening to Maiden, i'm not entirely sure, but , i think this is Maiden's best album. Every song is great, with great riffs, harmonies, solos, etc. And every one of them were at the top of their game. Even the album cover is simply Epic !!!
I couldn't ever objectively say which is "best" but Powerslave is certainly a hugely important album in their career. Arguably one of the most significant!
I always decide which one is my favourite and then change my mind again about 2 days later, they are just all so good haha
After 40 years of listening to this song, i still don't know half the lyrics, because the guitar work is so fkn insane .. Excellent! 🔥
I think it's a brilliant combination of simplicity, pace/tempo, and just enough intricacy to capture and maintain your attention fort the entire 5 minutes 🤘🤘
Such an underrated song and so much different than the other song about this great TV show, The Prisoner.
One of my favorite songs! As I told you, my Real Estate company is called Villacacia (the mix of Back in the Village and 22 Acacia Avenue) so with that it is more than evident. And about your cover, as always: exquisite.👌🏼

Most underrated maiden song
Whoever thinks this song is the weak point of Powerslave, is out of his mind.

Such a great opening riff written by Adrian Smith.....ABSOLUTELY KILLER!!!!
Adrian is an absolute master im composition too.
Slow this down to half speed and you can hear what happens when take a groove riff and double its tempo creating a monstrous rhythm at head-banging speed. I can imagine Adrian (or Dave) taking yet another scaling exercise(s) and arranging it for the whole song. Just epic rock music for the ages. One of my fave Maiden songs.

I absolutely love this song and this entire album, this song is phenomenal and amazing and so unique and creative, you're absolutely the best I've ever seen and listened to, omg this is the absolute best! What a difficult song to play correctly.

@@LicksOfTheBeast Yeah, I guess doing another cover of the same song could have been seen as a bit unnecessary or repetitious. But I think people can appreciate your reasoning, because if you have something in the public domain then I think it’s only natural to want to make sure it’s your best effort. I guess that just shows you take pride in what you do, but also that you’re committed to improvement and aren’t afraid to reflect critically on your own work.
Oh man... I usually find something to critique before I even upload the final video so the temptation to do things over is always there 😄

I have never been a big fan of this mainly cos of the vocals but you have demonstrated the guitars all the way through rock
I'm kind of at a Losfer Words here, I guess I better wipe off the drool before I speak...that is a jaw dropping song. I can't imagine how you guitarists play it so intricately without a hiccup in your pick-up. That was just amazingly great! Looks so difficult and in depth. Also love that Shirt you are sporting. I sometimes wonder what Gers is doing live when they play the older two guitar stuff or even what Adrian is doing when they play the Gers years stuff. Maybe you can shed some light on that? With fast paced, busy songs like this, it's mainly a lot of repetition until you have the parts well into your muscle memory so that you not thinking about it when you're playing it full-tilt. Also because you want to make sure you're staying in the groove 🙂
Usually Jan will play the same parts as Adrian when they play 80s songs and sometimes Adrian will update his parts like playing a melody an octave lower or a slightly different variation of the part. When playing 90s material, Adrian typically plays something that is similar to what Janick does but complementary... Again maybe playing a melody or a riff an octave lower or a simplified version of it.

Nice job dude. Powerslave is one of my favorite albums. Not just one of my favorite Maiden albums but one of my favorite albums. Killers was the first album I actually bought and didn't steal from the public library *cough* We Sold Our Soul For Rock and Roll *cough* and Beast On The Road was my first concert. Hell of a job as usual 🔥🔥🔥

Did you know that Maiden played this song during the 1984 World Slaver Tour? They played it in Warsaw and Lodz, but then dropped it. So sad, there is no bootleg from these shows, perhaps we find one somedays :)
