"You wouldn't believe the truth." For a child, the realization that a parent not only doesn't trust you, but always thinks the worst of you, is a bitter pill to swallow. Because what comes along with that is the realization that your parents aren't perfect, which can be disillusioning. When you think the adults always know how to handle every situation and you find out they don't, that can shake you a bit.
One thing about Anne, that Marilla was quick to find out, is that she never lied. She had a vivid imagination, but she never lied or failed to admit her mistakes.
I get teary watching this show. It was such a safe time in my life when I first saw it. My hometown was different but similar in ways. Such a distant memory now, yet here is Anne, perfectly preserved as though nothing changed.
If I had a child that said that to me especially after I had been so tough on them I would be gutted - Marilla knew she was guilty as charged and had to accept responsibility for Anne feeling this way.
You cut out the best part: Marilla apologizing to Anne for having punished her for something she didn't do. It can be very humbling for a parental figure to admit to a child that they were wrong, but Marilla did this. More parents should admit to their children when they are wrong, instead of doubling down. It's a hard lesson to learn, and one I'm still learning.
I love this scene! This one and mouse who drowned in the sauce! Great miniseries. Makes me long for the days when the Disney Channel showed wonderful shows like this one!
I had a crush on Megan, I found her beautiful even wearing those rags from the orphanage. I wish I could find somebody like her. Intelligent, beauty, so romantic, with an air of proud, and so loving. I hope.
I can so identify with Anne. I’m way too direct myself and I do not lie. I really don’t know why people have made it difficult for me to get medical care that would be considered appropriate any other place but in a fundraising company while thrusting men at me. As if any self-respecting man would want a wife under duress of some kind
Anne was nothing if not creative and imaginative.. and what better way to drive a point home. If you're going to punished for something and they don't believe the truth.. make the "reason" really, really good!!
@@creativewriter3887 This is actually how some criminals are created - they spend their lives not committing crimes because they don't want to be arrested, then they're wrongfully arrested so figure if they're going to be punished for something they didn't do it, they may as well do something.
There is A LOT from the adaptation not in the book and a lot of the book not in the adaptation!! Remember, this is an ADAPTATION. In fact, the adaptation set the story about 10-15 years later than the timeline in the books, in order to take advantage of fashion changes and color palette of the LATE Victorian and Edwardian period-- as it would simply film better. That time shift also put the ending of the original series right before WW1 when in the books (and where that abysmal Sequel picked up), it was Anne and Gilbert's son who goes off to war.
That’s true. But I believe it was only a threat which showed how angry and disappointed Marilla was. Maybe they wanted to ”fill a gap” to add more drama.
That’s right. By this point in the book when the broach thing happened, Marilla and Mathew already agreed to keep Anne, and Anne had already become friends with Diana.
The answer is in the book: Marilla wore her scarf and put it on top of the dresser after Anne hat put back the brooch. The brooch got caught in the scarf and when Marilla removed the scarf she unknowingly took the brooch with it.
@@svenjas1201 what I don’t understand is she says she checked everywhere even the cracks in the floor but yet she never checked her shawl apparently because who finds it there?, Matthew finds it there.

Anne improved the lives and characters of everyone around her, starting with Marilla.
Similar to Hayley Mills in Pollyanna
One of the best lines ever.
