“Unacceptable Behaviour Towards Women!” Calls For Crossbow Ban After Bushey Triple Killing

  • A misogynistic culture at the root of violence against women and girls must be addressed, a domestic abuse charity has said, in the wake of the crossbow killings of a mother and her two daughters in their home.
Refuge said while it welcomed the Government’s urgent consideration of whether tougher crossbow laws are needed after the deaths, the danger from such crimes stems from the perpetrator rather than the tools they use.
The End Violence Against Women Coalition echoed this, warning that “quick-fix” measures such as banning a weapon would not stop men intent on harming women.
Triple-murder suspect Kyle Clifford is understood to have been the ex-partner of Louise Hunt.
The 25-year-old was found fatally injured with her sister Hannah, 28, and their mother, Carol Hunt, 61, at a house in Bushey, Hertfordshire, on Tuesday.
They are the wife and daughters of BBC 5 Live commentator John Hunt.
Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan discusses the story with former Met Police detective Peter Bleksley.

None of them are weapons though. They absolutely can be used as weapons or to kill someone however they were not made with the sole purpose of being a killing machine. Crossbows however were made with the sole purpose of killing. I don't think they should ban crossbows though, heaby regulate them maybe bc ordinary citizens dont actually need weapons (actual weapons not things that could be used as weapons) but they shouldn't be banned. The argument of when are they banning this, this or that makes nonsemse bc you are trying to compare actual weapons, actual killing machines to other things that were designed for a completely different purpose but of course like almost everything can be used as a weapon

When someone like him says men are the problem, I have to assume he shares a similar desire to do bad things to women, but “controls” it. And that he assumes it’s a desire throughout all men, but not all are as “strong” as he is to fight it (assuming he has). Because if he held no such desires, then he’d know categorically that men aren’t and can’t be the problem, because it doesn’t exist in him, therefore there must be others that it doesn’t exist in. So it’s interesting when people think like that. For example it’s overwhelmingly men that stop violent attackers, be it good Samaritans, or the police. So shouldn’t men also be gifted blanket free reign based off that fact too?
Or something like kid fiddlers, some people are sick and attracted to children, but not everyone is, so you can’t say men are the problem. And if someone was to say that men are the problem, it indicates an innate belief that that desire resides within all men, and that they’re just suppressing it.
Point being I’d trust this guy around women, a heck of a lot less than someone who understands it’s not a male problem. I’d bet money he’s got some skeletons in his closet

This now reminds me of an Irish murder. The first in the area in half a century . Suddenly men were the problem, in peaceful Ireland.... where this had never happened in over 50 years... Suddenly every negative experience with a man was part of a wider problem with Irish men and their attitudes to women. And then it came out... The guy wasn't Irish.. he was an immigrant... So those on the left on twitter suddenly stopped talking about him and now people on the right started blaming every immigrant... and so the blame game goes on.

The vast majority of men know how to keep their emotions under control. The problem is, that even if 0.01% of men were prone to violence, that would still make up over 300,000 violent individuals in the UK alone. Not real numbers but it should at least show that even if 99.9% of men never lifted a hand to anyone, there would still be enough violent men out there to cause some damage. No, this isn't about hatred and contempt for men, as one commentator says. It's about challenging and changing predominant male attitudes. Mr Sullivan is being factually correct when he says that abuse from men to women is endemic. Read the facts on the UK Rape Crisis website or read some of Laura Bates' writing, which makes for deeply upsetting reading but is based on her years of research, including documenting women's experiences of sexual harassment. When supposedly 'minor' examples of unacceptable male behaviour are dismissed then that behaviour implicitly becomes acceptable, and when a woman's discomfort is trivialised it sends a message that what women object to doesn't matter. There is ample evidence that the bloke who starts off by 'flashing' is likely to move on to rape. In the same way men joking about giving the other half a slap are condoning and encouraging domestic abuse. Of course not all men abuse women but l'll bet there isn't one man reading this thread who has never heard another man say something derogatory about women AND either laughed along (however uncomfortably) or not challenged their point of view.
BTW women being derogatory and dismissive about men is similarly insidious.
