Yeah i think we get too much caught up in these things. I upgraded from a Fujifilm X T30 to a Lumix S5 Ii and really like it but do I really need this? 10 bit 422 or 420 6K Open Gate and IBIS is really sexy but you also need to shoot with this gear.
This camera straight up changed my life. It works so incredibly well that I no longer have to think about anything other than framing the shot, and that has lead to me being able to bring my ideas to life with much less stress. Most of my work is automotive racing related so when you miss an important moment while fiddling with your camera, it's gone forever. The FX3 and A7SIII have never let me down in making sure I capture those moments which has been absolutely priceless in my career. It's right in that sweet spot where I still get these beautiful files but they're not taking up terabytes of space every time I go out and shoot, and yet still holds its own against cinema cameras that cost ten times more. I could honestly rant forever about the FX3 but to summarize I'll say I'd be happy if this was the only camera I could use for the rest of my life.
I think the FX3 is the best cinema camera on the market all things considered. It's the sweet spot of pretty much everything you need in a cinema camera for the price. If it had internal NDs, I'd probably hold on to this for many many years. The dream is that the second iteration of this camera is 6k with internal NDs but that would likely kill their other cameras.
Best investment I made for my corporate video business, besides audio, lights, and a cart. The FX3 picks up the slack when all else fails. It's a jack of all trades (and master of a few). Do you have the time/budget to set up proper lighting? Then that's great, but what about when you don't? What if you don't have a focus puller? What if the location sucks and you need to blur out the background more? What if you need 4k120 (and 4k60/120 in low light, like at a wedding)? Or need good battery life in a small body? The list goes on.
This video is awesome man! Such a wonderful job of highlighting how incredible this camera is, and reminding us why we need experience over equipment. Love it!
Really enjoyed watching this video. It was insightful and makes me excited for what the future of filmmaking will be now that camera gear is less and less of a barrier to entry.
Great Video! I'm currently using the GH5 and looking to upgrade to a new full-frame camera. I'm torn between the S5iix and the FX3. Do you think the extra cost for the FX3 is worth it? I’ve watched several footage videos from both cameras on RUclips, especially in the music video genre, and I find Sony’s look much more modern and cinematic.
Superb insight. 30 years in design I have used the camera on my desk as a way of seeing. I can start any project with a pencil, a mouse or a camera. From early Kodak digitals to the 5D MkII, then the R6 my work shifted from stills to moving image. I created moving images with a photographers eye. Stills studio lighting to light moving images - and thought I was going great. But no, I needed to shift. The R6 is a hot mess, a stunning beauty with multiple personality disorder. It’s foot in both camps was a reflection of my own indecision. Are you a designer, photographer or film maker? Hybrid was doing me no favours. Keeping me divided. Too much pointless, directionless spoiled, autofocus footage. I ditched the Canon. I picked up a second hand Blackmagic 6K. A machine with one clear mission - great footage. Some tools - when they are in your hand - change you. Suddenly the option to be the photographer I was, vanished. No longer "photographer" I know I have to become a story teller. I'm not yet a "film maker". Thats a whole next level. Your concept is bang on. These days the best entry level camera is a phone. So focus on your story and how best to tell it. The scenes write themselves, the footage will follow. Your work will improve. Subscribed.
A veces miro mi S5 y pienso en el 2008😅😅😅 si hubiera tenido al menos la Gh5 todo habría sido tan sencillo 😊 me alegra mucho que mi sueño de tener una cámara tan poderosa se hiciera posible.
Your videos saved me from selling my bmpcc 4k for a “better” camera. I’ve instead opted to invest in lights, lenses, and closing my skill gap. Thanks!

@@Smorfar that’s actually the camera I was considering at the time😅
my friend sold his bmpcc to buy a a7sIII best decision of his life
Bmpcc 4k is still a fantastic camera!

Dude your color grading tips on this camera are chef's kiss! Thanks a bunch!

I would love it so much if they could somehow add internal NDs, here’s to hoping
I'm hoping they refresh this in 6-12 months or something although no rumors AFAIK
This is my favorite camera I've ever owned. I just shot my first feature on it and the images look incredible.
Just found your RUclips channel, quite surprised you don't have more subscribers....
i love all of your videos
Wow thank you, I really appreciate that

Man I really envy FX3 users, but I can't get myself to break away from the image Blackmagic gives you. Great video bro, thank you
I have both. BMCC6kFF in studio and fx3 as my out and about toy because it's so portable and easy to use especially for a beginner like me.
Great voice, thoughts and presentation! "Experience and mastery of craft" 👀

Definitely getting this! I’m a bit behind the curve but this will be my first cinema camera.

What do you think of the Fuji film camera X-S20, is it a cinema camera (Prores 12 bit raw) like the Sony FX3?
Superb insight.
