    On this day in 1965 {August 1st} a vocal version of "Theme from 'A Summer Place'" by The Lettermen peaked at #2 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Easy Listening chart, for the week it was a #2, the #1 record for that week was "Save Your Heart For Me" by Gary Lewis and The Playboys...
    "Theme from 'A Summer Place'" peaked at #16 {for 1 week} on the Billboard's Top 100 chart...
    Between 1961 and 1975 the Las Vegas, Nevada trio had twenty-eight records on the Easy Listening chart, sixteen made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "When I Fall In Love", for one week in December of 1961...
    Tony Butala, the only surviving member of the trio, will celebrate his 81st birthday in three months on November 20th, 2021...
    Bob Engemann died on January 20, 2013 at the age of 77, and Jim Pike passed on June 9, 2019 at 82...
    May they both R.I.P.

    My Dad had this music on 8 track. When my parents would go out and the babysitter came over I would lock the bedroom door, find one of my Dad's dress shirts and sing these songs in front of the mirror. Great songs to learn how to harmonize to! 🤗😍😊

    This beautiful song reminds me of my daddy this is his favorite he loves playing this song over and over... And now I'll never gonna hear this song again with him I miss you daddy :'(

    All 3 men were hearthrobs. Awesome that Tony is still one today. May Bob and Jim RIP. Their voices blend so well together and bring back childhood memories ❤

    I still have a VHS copy of "A Summer Place" and this song ws one of my very favorites of all time. This "Letterman" version is just wonderful.

    Born in the summer, we rocked our sweet baby girl to sleep while playing this song. In our home this is, "The Baby's Song". Thank you for sharing this video.

    The song is on my personal top 100 list. I was certainly here in 1962 but don't remember watching the performance on TV. There has never been a version as good as The Lettermen. Thank you.

    This beautiful song is one that is very close to my heart...it was one of my mother's very favorites. We used to listen to this one together, and I can "feel" her near every time I hear it. Thank you Phil - for the music and the memory...

    When we were still at home, my mom on weekend chores would put letterman and others on her console stereo😃
    She did that to minimize the griping and moaning we sometimes did.. that music made our chores so much easier and faster. Not a peep out of us the whole time. We would sing with them. So much fun. ..1966/7 My mom was Smart! lol…
