As someone who played this game for over a thousand hours, i would like to say that the competitive depth is actually the greatest strength of this game. The community isn't "huge" of course but very active, we currently have 3 big tournaments running. Furthermore, the gameplay mechanics are a lot deeper than they seem to be at first, the game doesn't just consist in getting the energy and breaking your opponents racket. There is a lot to learn with shot selection and the use of trick shots and slow time. And you are not mentioning the 3 main modes of this game "simple" "standard" and "doubles". Those 3 modes are very good for a few reasons, they all feel completely different from one another and they are complementary, getting good at simple is a must to have a decent level in standard for example. Lastly when you play online, having "ranks" actually give you a sense of progression compared to mario kart VR or smash GSP
Chain Chomp should be in every Mario sports game but be way worse than the other characters. I want him to be the face of ' I'm so much better than my friends that I can beat them with a crap character.'
Just wanted to say… this game absolutely rocks, story mode is half cooked but the competitive depth is unbelievable, when I play with friends it goes CRAZY
@@austonbus1452 This game definitely rocks! Super interesting competitive gameplay system. When your friends know how to play, it's INTENSE. Thanks for your comment.
I never had the opportunity to play this game, I wish they made available this game again for NSO Game Trials or it get released as a Nintendo Selects brand for cheaper. I don't wanna buy a game that has so little content for full price.
@@legacy7756 It's a really great game, even without zone shots and special shots. I hope the next game in the series manages to improve further and have an even more distinct identity and better story mode.
'Super Tennis Blast' was my Tennis fix until 'Topspin 2k25' came out, but 'Mario Tennis Aces' was the one to play with my family. Nintendo games are such great couch co op games.
Top Spin 2k25 is GREAT. Top Spin is a great franshise. My top 3 Tennis games. 1. Virtual Tennis 1 (dreamscast), 2. Top Soin 1 (xbox), 3. Mario Tennis 64. I have Mario Tennis Aces (nintendo Switch) and its a great game for multiplayer.
I still remember the hardest part of the story for me was that rally challenge with Kamek. Literally harder than the final boss because of that stupid pole messing everything up lol. But anyway I still come back to this game sometimes but the online is very dead unfortunately at least the last few times I tried to play it.

Not for $60. It is on my wish list with other Mario games but I'm not getting any of them if they stay at $60. I may have to look for physical copy on sale or used ones.
That's a pretty fair characterization. Though, I find them including a decent enough single player mode tends to separate them a little bit from the standard arcade sports game experience... But not by much
Now there's a fascinating comparison. There's times where Mario reminds me of Rafael Nadal when he's in the all-red outfits, so I feel that. But Medvedev as Waluigi cannot be unseen.

I agree with most of the video except the comment at the end that there is not enough competitive depth. This game is incredibly well thought out. s lacking as there is in game modes and overall content, it is hard carried by the excellent gameplay. It might not be apparent at a glance but there is a reason people still play it. Ranked is starting to get pretty dead but like Golf Super Rush, M&S 2020 and dare I say Smash Ultimate, the meat and potatoes is in private lobbies. Sure the Mario sports games aren't as populated as Smash but you get the idea.
Yeah, I suppose you're right. It's just hard to see the competitive depth outside of very small in-person tournaments and a dying online space. But I agree, the gameplay mechanics are very competitively sound and overall highly well-made.
