    This deck is tons of fun to pilot and really scratches that control deck itch :)

    Thank you for the awesome guide! Ive been trying out this deck at my local and had a blast with it. Trying to tweak it with the release of ftc to fit in frostbinder apostle, frostbind and fracturize. Do you think those cards are needed for this deck, and which card in your opinion should be replace with?

      Hey, thanks for the comment and glad you enjoy the deck! We haven't gotten deep into FTC testing on Water Zander yet, and there's the possibility of some pretty significant changes to the list for sure. But for some quick initial changes - I think all those cards are good fits, and I might start by testing these tweaks out:
      -2 Water Barrier
      -2 Chilling Touch
      -2 Snow Fairy
      -4 Kingdom Informant
      +3 Frostbind
      +3 Fracturize
      +4 Frostbinder Apostle
      And let me know how that goes if you do :)

    You don't run revitalizing cleanse? I feel like the card fits in so well with the water zander playstyle. Heal hp, fast cast speed, draw one, and best part of it, you get to reveal your cards to activate some luxem effects. I feel like stealth is just a very weak mechanic right now when the top dog lorraine gets a free sword of seeking, because cleave exists, and arcane blast/fire ball will still go through.

      I think the main issue with it is the 5 cost, I've had trouble having enough cards in hand to play it against more aggressive decks.

    • @MaindeckGames
      @MaindeckGames  Год назад

      I've gone back and forth on it so much! Yes, it's definitely great in some situations, but the issue is with faster decks like Infusion Lorraine, you *have* to keep up on leveling, and that leaves you with very few cards to work with - enough to make Cleanse totally unplayable for a few turns. I've found more success with tools like Nia to try to limit their speed or at least CA and to let me more selectively banish cards in the early game so I don't lose my critical Luxem Sights and Lightweavers that I need to stabilize late.

    Great video! I personally don’t like Kingdom informant in the current meta because of cleave attacks with Lorraine. Having a bunch of those Allies will give them more card draw on their level 2, but then again I can see it’s merit. Another unit against Rai is useful since they will take chip dmg

    • @MaindeckGames
      @MaindeckGames  Год назад +1

      Yes, KI is one of the weaker cards in the list, but it's there partially because having floating memory cards *in deck* when you are trying to Idle Thoughts -> Tide Diviner is critical, and as you mentioned, when you aren't facing Lorraine you want to be pushing damage because Rai has more kill conditions than you do, so there's a race to get there.
      Lorraine sweeping a couple allies and drawing cards isn't the end of the world either if you have the right answers in hand to stop their kill turns. It depends a lot on how long it takes you to establish control of the game! Still, in those matchups, KIs are really held in hand to enable a safe Dungeon Guide turn while we are hoping to score floating memory off of the other cards.

    • @sergioperez2771
      @sergioperez2771 Год назад +1

      Yup. You can plausibly ally rush Rai down with this list, but having allies on the board before Lorraine goes into level 2 is real problem. That card single-handedly stifles ally play in the meta right now. She just blows you out and punishes you severely for playing allies. Wish the card would have limited total card draw to 1 for killing allies; would still be really good given the +2 for the turn. With this list, you'll need to limit ally play before Lorraine L2, but you're playing the long game into her, and the matchup is still really good against her. One of the main reasons I run Zander on fire is so that I can Cremation Ritual my allies before Lorraine draws cards off of them.
      I wanna say into Lorraine, I feel confident with this list if played appropriately, 70/30, maybe even 80/20. Rai though, not nearly as good - more like 30/70. The deck is really, really fun to pilot though in any regard.

    I really enjoyed this deck profile and it was very informative, the card choices were really well explained and I really like the deck so good job! I definitely want to build the deck and have most of the cards but I am missing 2 Dungeon Guides and 2 Lightweaver's Assault which sucks, I am not sure what to replace them with but LWA is so expensive even on TCG player now that I am happy just to stick with 2 and use replacements for the time being. What are your views on other Luxem/Assassin cards like Thousand Refractions, Coup de Grace, Corhazi Infiltrator and Corhazi Lightblade? Is there any use for them at all?

    • @MaindeckGames
      @MaindeckGames  Год назад +1

      Hmm - great question! If you don't have the guides and Assaults, I'd be really tempted to just run Scry the Skies to replace them, because nothing is going to quite match up so you might be better off just trying to dig for a copy instead. Guide is simply irreplaceable here as nothing gives you that tempo boost, and of the Luxem options, I think Inflitrator is closest but nothing manages to control the board or represents as solid a win-con as Assault. Infiltrator is unfortunately very cold to Cleave attacks. Another option would be to just Mainboard the other 2x Excaliburs to have stronger control options as you'll have to dig deeper to find your win con (which is where Scry can help as well).
      Hope that helps, and good luck with the list! Let me know how it goes if you think of it!

    • @ollie44th99
      @ollie44th99 Год назад

      @@MaindeckGames Thank you for all the info and Scry the skies sounds like a good temporary replacement to use as I always found that card pretty decent especially when searching for key pieces. I agree about the Excaliburs as well so I may at the very least add 1 more copy to mainboard. As for the Infiltrator that does suck about cleave attacks but I also like the idea of getting out a beater for free, I guess when the meta inevitably changes next set there might be a better place for them.
      One last question, do you think there is many decks that can work at least at a locals competitive level that don't run any Dungeon Guides or a lv3 champion/2nd element (Luxem,Crux etx)? I know that you posted a Fire Allen decklist recently, is there any other lv2 single element decks that could work like that? I really like the idea of doing just a water or wind deck but could it be playable?
      Thanks for all the help I really appreciate it and keep up the good content!

I myself....I bought one box of the first set finally and ended up with the whole set of Zander lvl 1 through 3, so i was quite curious what I could find. Ill be building this for sure, wven if it ends up not doing well for me locally ill have fun

      Zander is getting a new level 2 from Proxia's Vault in January, and there's a Luxem regalia available from it already! We need to go back and explore this more but we're waiting to see what his new level 2 does for him!

    Im confused why you think the class bonus on Excalibur, Cleansing Light is insignificant. It shuts off 2 non-norm elements for a whole turn. You could choose Fire and Arcane to stop Rai making their combos, you could choose Wind and Crux against Lorraine etc. You basically force your opponent to only play Norm cards on their next turn and prevent them using many reactive cards that tend to have elements on them

    • @MaindeckGames
      @MaindeckGames  Год назад

      It's not that it's insignificant - it's that it's inapplicable here because it's a Warrior class bonus, and Zander is an Assassin! Currently it's only usable if you play Triskit to make yourself a Luxem Warrior.

    • @FireShadow210
      @FireShadow210 Год назад

      @MaindeckGames oh I see! Here I was thinking it was an Assassin bonus! That's my mistake. I wonder why they made a class bonus that's so difficult to use

    Can you explain why you can retaliate against an attack once you shroud in mist? Wouldn't an attack against a stealthed enemy fizzle?

    • @MaindeckGames
      @MaindeckGames  Год назад +1

      Nope, this is a little known rule! Under Comp Rules 2.2.g.ii 2.b, it explains that a retaliating unit still will deal damage even if the attacker is no longer considered attacking due to stealth. This is because we go through all the combat steps even if the attack becomes illegal, as long as we entered the combat phase!

    Is Materalize the same as Play? using Nia to name Material Deck cards sounds OP. name their spirit if you go first?

    • @MaindeckGames
      @MaindeckGames  Год назад +1

      The Index clarifies this - "The cost increase only affects cards that are played, which is a term used to group both activate and materialize." and "The type of cost increased is based on the card's default cost type. If the affected card has a reserve costs, it costs 1 more reserve. If the affected card has a memory cost, it costs 1 more memory."
      As for your Spirit idea, that doesn't work because your Level 0 spirit is not materialized, it's "put into play" as part of your first turn procedure, so it gets around the cost increase, much like Dungeon Guide does for other levels!

    How about Fire Zander ? Dose Fire Zander could end the game fast before wind Lorraine or Rai Lv3

    • @MaindeckGames
      @MaindeckGames  Год назад

      Fire Zander can be pretty fast, but this deck is able to play around a lot of their damage, and siding cards like Lunete can really slow him down also. Wind Lorraine decks that are built with the right tools are also able to cut off a lot of his key damage with cards like Veiling Breeze as well as Nullifying Lantern and Deflecting Edge, whereas fire decks have very few recourses once Lorraine hits 3 - Deflecting Edge is going to stop 3 of the 20-30 damage that she's dealing that turn. Wind having Beseech the Winds to play Nullifying Lantern without slowing down tempo is an absolutely massive advantage that deck has over Fire Warrior/Assassin decks.
