Downtown Carlisle Mystery Hole Discovered!

  • While metal detecting in my friend and brother T-Halls yard, I discovered a mysterious underground cave like structure. His stone house was built in the 1700's and there is no written record of what this unusual buried structure might be. An underground bug-out shelter for possible Indian attacks? A pit for water gathered from the roof for unknown reasons? U B the judge!

I have 6.3 acres an hour north of Columbus, Ohio. The original part of my house was built in 1919, and the neighbors had found Indian pipes as well as some other things. Your more than welcome out here. My five year old would go crazy haha. Anyway, thanks for sharing.

    Dear chigg,
I found a turtle still alive on its back in the woods, when I flipped it over so it could get back to turtle stuff, it reminded me of you how you are so kind to turtles and other unfortunate animals in situations like that, so I want to thank you for doing and showing us how to save animals in this situation.
    Thanks,
    Brat Wurst

Brat, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Beau's passion for nature and compassion for animals, as well as his adventurous spirit and knowledge of history are the things that endear me to him. Oh and of course his silliness too. : )

Down here in Florida we have gopher tortoise which are protected. It is illegal to move them from the road or turn them back over. They actually turn each other over fighting for a female tortoise.

    Definitely excavate the underground structure!
Many years ago ... my grandfather bought an old farmhouse property in central Massachusetts. We discovered a tunnel leading from the house to the well - with a small room about at mid-point. We figured it was an underground shelter from possible Indian attacks or perhaps from the Redcoats.

I don't blame you for now wearing a gopro in order to free up a hand, but the view is so much wider than the old camera---we can't see the finds very well! Please be sure to remember to hold up the finds a LOT closer to the lens than you used to! :)
    Always enjoy your videos!

So happy you mentioned the Carlisle Industrial School for Indians. My Great Grandmother and her sister, plus my Grandmother and her sister attended that school. I was able to obtain the school records on all four of them. My Grandmother and her sister were there when the school closed. My father attended the Shingwauk Residential School located in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Interesting stories on all five of them. I was the first generation to not attend Residential School.

What a beautiful house. I would love to see the inside. With all those high tones it doesn't sound like it's been dug before. I would like to see you go back and dig that hole out. My sister had an ornamental well in her backyard that she planted black eyed Susan's in. One day she looked outside and all the flowers were gone. Thinking it was deer that ate them she went over to the well to check it out. She was shocked to see that the flowers were still there but had sunken about 7 feet down. Turns out that the well was actually the opening to part of a cistern that was capped off and the cap fell down inside. After some digging around we found a beautiful beehive shaped brick cistern that must have been for a house that was there before hers. You never know what's underground right below your feet.

I have to admit I've enjoyed these vids lately...the caves and digging around trying to find gun collection, privies, etc. I do love when you're in the creeks detecting but this has been a fun change. I think I'd be curious about that privy based on the age of the house and planned landscaping coming up. Hope you'll consider going back before the water goes down. Enjoyed as always, Chigg, and you always make me chuckle with your sense of humor.

Might be an old root cellar. Or maybe the house had work done to it, and they dug a hole to throw the waste into...plasterers used to dig a shallow pit to soak the lime in. You will definitely need to find an outline for the pit, to make any sense of it. Have fun Chigg.

So glad it's not an abandoned septic tank, Beau, that would have really stunk! Maybe it's an underground store room for smugglers. Thanks for mentioning the history of the Indians and how they were sent against their will to Carlisle. I have art work done by a Hopi Indian that was sent there, if I remember right, his name I believe was Fred Kabote. He left the school and became an artist and returned to the Hopi Indian reservation and taught art and school to the Indians on the reservation. His whole story is very heart breaking but also heartwarming for what he was able to accomplish.

Dear Beau, I DO wish lots of gold coins on you. But you keep finding these darn interesting historical artefacts and uncharted caverns & caves. Now you were hoping for a buried pot of saved gold 1750 coins - and you get an original privy and a possible original cellar(?). It did look a very promising site, the signs were good, my bet is that it is under that pristine veggie patch... or maybe the other one.... or the brick patio..... or the little shed......🌝

This explains a lot for me. I swallowed one that was probably about a 2001 or 2002 because I was laying in bed holding it over my face observing how shiny and new it was when I was around 8 or 9 years old, then it fell out of my hand and right through the slot of my slightly open mouth and straight into and down my throat. It happened so perfectly I almost didn't even feel it happen. I thought for sure I was gonna die, but the internet said I'd just pass it. Now I know the truth and I never did hear a clink in the toilet. lol

I have watched so many of your videos. I can't even say "can you see it?" Without imitating your voice 😁 I live in AZ! Would love to hunt here with you!
