My first songs took me like 1 month each and were not very good. After doing it for a couple (2) years, I can make a banger in a night or 2 if I hit on the right motif to work off of.

how did u learn producing? @@SilentShiba

@@vaynoroI self learned it with the help of some youtube. But don't overdo the youtube thinking it can make up for just practicing with the DAW
The first year I primarily focused on making sounds in Vital, composing simpler beats and I wrote some algorithms in python to extend vital as well. Also learning the DAW. You want to know every hotkey in your DAW, it will save you hours of time cumulatively and more importantly it will keep you in the flow of your creativity.
The second year I actually quit my job and focused on music, digital art, construction and personal programming projects and 3D printing. That is to say I focused very hard on my music.
So I had the goal of making an hour of music, but I actually ended up making an hour and 45 mins in a year (cracked 1 year of quitting job just 3 day ago actually). First 6 months I was just composing, putting a naive single band compressor on the music and releasing. The last 6 months I focused on getting mixing and mastering just right and faster. I also focused on music around 2 mins in length so that I could have a higher degree of sound design and creativity per track released. I can produce about 10 mins of audio per month at my current rate without focusing on it all day like I used to have to do to make progress.
In retrospect I really think I took the optimal strategy to learn how to produce original music quickly. Focus on composition and creating new soundscapes until you can lay beats and synths in your sleep, and then focus on making music loud and clear later. Focus on a process that works for you, what works for me wont work for you and have fun with it.

@@vaynoroI typed a whole thing up and it didn't post so here is try 2.
First year mostly focus on sound design and composition. I made basic sounds (nothing too fancy) in vital and made some compositions that I enjoyed but were not ground breaking. One of the most important things for me to focus on in the first year was process. I'm an engineer at heart, and so having good project templates, knowing the DAW's hotkeys, understanding the technical information, organizing my music on disk and getting knowledge of how basic functions of the DAW were most important.
The second year I actually quit my job because I hated that shit and I had a ton of time to practice music after having very little in year one. I had great success on focusing on 2 minute pieces of music, I believe it allows you to practice composition of new vibes, mastering, mixing and sound design creation.
Once I could make music at about 10 mins of audio per month, I started getting more interested in learning about loudness, optimizing sidechains, multi band compression/mastering with my own values (ei, no longer using presets, actually understanding the math of compression), also look into how soft clipping, one corner clip and hard clipping affect the tone of your sound. You don't want to be the guy who only knows how to do one kind of clipping technique, imo, since its so easy to test.
Come up with a process that works for you. Don't get too attached to the outcome. You may really love the music you are making, but it is probably not your magnum opus in year 2. Have an abundance mindset for new vibes. Practicing more styles or making experimental music early is more valuable than going very deep into one style. Always do at least 1 new thing in your track while you are learning. If you don't know how to automate, learn to do that, if you haven't side chained before, try dropping the volume out super quick right before a drop. Always do one new thing to keep on learning.
Remember, use hotkeys, and optimize your process so that you can stay in the flow of your creativity. Don't give up early but don't be overly attached to the outcome.
